- The prototype for the current fleet of R143 and R160 cars, the R110B New Tech Train, built by Bombardier, is seen here in this 1994 view. The R110B and the R110A trains were delivered in 1992. They were bought to be tested for the next order of cars to replace the aging fleet of subway cars. The R110B cars are 67 feet long, seven feet longer than the standard length of IND/BMT cars, which are 60 feet, but shorter than the R44,46 and 68 series which are 75ft. Due to the differences in length, the train was 9 cars long and the conductors position was at the forth south motor. The train was made up of three units of three cars numbering 3001 to 3009. Special blue conductors' boards that read "R110" were installed along the stops on the A and C lines where the R110B would run. Due to mechanical problems, including a fire on one of the units, the R110B train was shortened to 6 cars and ran on the C line until it's retirement in the late 1990's. Two units are now in storage at 207th Yard and the other unit has been broken up with two cars used for fire training at Coney Island Yard and one car at the PS 248 training center.
When traveling express between 59st and 125st northbound, the pre-recorded announcer voice would explain the technology and features of this new A Train.
That guy questioning you deserved to have his snout flattened. Said it before and I'm saying it now.
Thanks for the comment, Budd. I agree that the R110B does look better. Particularly the interior.
SORRY I CANNOT MAKE A TOY R110B BECAUSE ITS SO HARD TO DO
He had a condescending tone, I know that type. You handled it well though.
Yeah he did he was very ignorant too
2:28, rare footage of a 6-car G train.
it’s a R44
@@ogloc8585 *an R44
R46, not 44
If you guys have noticed, the R46 set on the G was 6 cars with the last 2 cars being in an AA configuration. The first 4 cars were in the 4 car set, however all were mismated, and were to be renumbered into the 5480-6278 series which includes 1228-1278 the AA cars to be renumbered 6228-6278.
Yes, the front R46 was 940, I forget what number it has now. Looked like that whole R46 trainset wasnt yet renumbered but they were completely rehabbed
Wish I were old enough to ride one(I was born after the Redbirds were gone)
Take the D train towards Coney Island to 25th Ave then walk under the train until it turns on to Stillwell Av and there’s gonna be a small school looking building with a R110b by the park
That sucks
I was born just in time to ride a Redbird on the 7 line when I was 4 in the very year they were set to be retired.
I didn't understand the concept of retiring trains at the time so I was confused as to why I couldn't find any Redbirds anymore after that.
Ohh woww I saw the first Graffiti on the R110B
looks like a hybrid between R44s and R160s
I've been waiting for my TechTrain for so long and you've FINALLY recorded it. Please record some more R110 vids. THANX!
Never been on one, but I’ve seen it once as a little boy on the C back in 1999
Awesome video. Notice the original car numbers on the R46's.
These R-110 A and B trains sure sounded better than the new ones we have today lol.
@MrGman8161 I actually loved the R110x's, especially the seating (i.e. the ones perpendicular to the windows). I was disappointed when the R14xy's and R160x's didn't take after that...
Redbirds were fun, too. I actually also rode an R-27/R-30 once, though they were on the way out when I was *really* young... Underground is a different story, as the soundproofing was not that good...
Excellent Flash back! And Lol i can see the R131 tagged at 1:57
1:57
The R110B's sound quieter than any other trains here... Is it true?
Sea Beach Exp it does
it does
Funny you state that in Trainluvrs video the end when it leaves 14th st you can hear the propulsion. The LA Metro Breda A650 cars have the same propulsion.
@@GeneralHawk505 what is the propulsion called
@@AaronKungFaux Not sure.
I wish the seating on the R-143 and R-160 models, which followed, were like here. Instead we got a throwback to R-32 style seating with a newer look...
Is it just me or that train is fast af
Well, the R44's were already rebuilt/renumbered, just the R46's were rebuilt, but when they were, they were all returned from MK all mismated except for the AA sets, so at that point, they got their renumbering so that all cars started from 1000, and up (R142's last batch numbered 1101-1250).
@coyoteatquiznos Thanks for the comment. I realized that I was recording something significant, so I chose to stay focused on what I was doing. He was a young man that was overly inquizitive, so that's why I chose to answer his questions with an explaination about the train. Maybe he might see this video on You Tube and remember that day!
Ok
THE r46 g train was numbered 1246 crazy 2:41
R110B car 3005 is in a school yard in Brooklyn

Me
There's too many people inside this historic train
Between r44/46 and r160/179
looks like the side LED is ripped right from a 44/46 other wise theres not really any propulsion
Those a-holes used to infuriate me. Their questioning ‘why take a picture of THAT’ usually came off as condescending. Now the same a-holes are shooting anything that moves and think their efforts are as important as the highest paid journalist. If they arent shooting images, their curving their spines while staring at angry birds, solitaire, and news site propaganda.
01:59 Who Graffitied on that NTT New Technology Train? they graffiti OTT Old Technology Trains only, not NTT
Car 3006 caught on fire after this video
The reason why the r110 b is out of service is because it got Bombed by Bombardier
No. They were pulled from service since they suffered problems and they were no longer needed.
1:59 : wtf??? graffiti already??
Yup
Oof
It’s 1994, what did you expect?
lmao
SO Thats What The Old Days Look Like
Why they retired these
CJ The Reactor they was retired due to malfunctions with the trains, they would catch fire, breaks won’t work, and little explosions would happen under the train so mta took them bc it was unsafe for passengers.
I have to commend you on maintaining your composure. Some people need to mind their own damn business. :\
The led looks like r46 led.
LCD*
Hoyt Schermerhorn station abandoned platform
How come those cars not in use anymore??????
They were test trains for the R143's/R160's/R179's.

Dark Neko San Every B division car after the 1970s have been based off the R44 and R46 cars. It’s just they put some small cosmetic changes and a few major interior changes in each order.
