It is my sad duty to post here, for the record, that the prime mover behind this video, my brother Dave Herring, passed away at the age of 75 on December 1, 2021. We collaborated on this project as we collaborated on underground comix in the 1960s, and I was so pleased to be able to work with him again. As you may see from his RUclips channel, he was an outstanding graphic and video artist, the likes of which we may never see again.
He seemed like a truly talented man, I have been looking for this animation for years, but I still wonder, what was the deeper meaning behind this? As said, as he has passed we may never know. All of my sentiments to him, you and everyone else he had in his life
Ah, I've found it. After many a year. I remember watching this when I was what; 6? This honestly brings me such nostalgia. I'm still not sure why I was so obsessed with this one movie, but I thought it was lost to the sands of time. But here I am again, rewatching what I thought I'd never see again. Thank you, Dave Herring, may you rest among the stars.
I used to be obsessed with this since it came out. Watching to being older is so nostalgic! Brings me back to the good old days! Thank’s Dave and Stephen Herring. Rest in peace Dave 😢😢😢
this feels so nostalgic, i wish i could’ve seen new york back in the 20s/30s. I obviously wouldn’t want to live then, but it would be cool for like a day or two.
This reminds me of my trip with the mtm metropolitan transit museum to The Old City Hall Station!! which is an old turnabout in NYC. Only members of the museum and brave souls that stay on the old #6 train after its full schedule run might possibly see it if they stay on the right train and provided the lights are on... it truly is a wondrous site to behold..and tickets are very hard to come by; they sell out almost as fast as they go on sale...i had to wait almost 2 years for the chance to get them and see it ; but it was so so worth it!! I'm so glad I got to see it.. simply breathing. Old world craftsmanship at it's finest! Perhaps one day I'll get the chance to post them on my facebook page... so all my friends can see it's rugged beauty!! Thanks for posting this video brought back great memories for me!😉👍👌🚃
As a fan of both the Shining and the Beach subway I was greatly impressed and entertained by this. A marvelous evocation of a lost era, a part of modern mythology. Great work!
I friggin love this vid! This is my first time watching it, but I feel like this was me every time I tried to get back home in the East Village after a night of drinking, drugs, and general debauchery. Except I ended up in the old Helmsley Park Lane, asking the concierge to speak with Leona in person. They kept telling me the same thing… “she doesn’t work here anymore.”
Absolutely Fantastic Movie! I feel as though I’ve just taken a trip into the subway of the . . . “Twilight Zone!” This is a Great piece of “storytelling”; a “visual delight.” Your animation style is so . . . clean, crisp and (hauntingly) perfect for the narrative (story) being told. Greg.
I still cry over the fact that no one’s taken care of, nor gone into the beach Pneumatic transit line of 1870. It was the *first subway* ever made (at least in America). Why couldn’t we make something of it? 😢
He wanted to get to 23rd Street. By logic he has 2 options, take the express to 14th Street, then take the local one stop or take the express to 42nd Grand Central then take the downtown local to 23rd Street. I would take the 4 or 5 from Fulton Street. If there is a 6 train waiting at Brooklyn Bridge? I'll take it. Or I take the express to 14th Street/Union Square and take the local to 23rd St. To go to the VA Hospital.
I seen this when I was little and that’s what I was like interested in trades a lot I just remember this day and I came across it again Brusters to my eyes this is a very good short film
I watched this when I was 4 I lost track of it searched RUclips from top to bottom to try and re-find it and finally at 2:19 am apr21 2020 I've found it again yay
Love this! Incredible detail (although it's odd to see 3-car trains running on the left-hand side, and only 1 track at Times Sq on the 42 St shuttle) mood and storyline.
I watched this a year ago confused because i had never seen the shining but now this Halloween i saw it and watching this it made sense. The elevator part made me chuckle because of how many times it appears in the shining and when the guy says. I decided not to take the elevator. This film did great with the vibe. While watching it I got a good shining vibe. Also is the guy who pushed the man out of the train. Is he suppose to be jack from the shining?
I wonder why the pneumatic subway had to end. I couldn't really find information about it, if someone knows why the pneumatic subway was cancelled, reply to me.
Supposedly it was said that it was cancelled because due to federal funding if I mistaking and forgot what else and the pneumatic subway was supposedly during the construction of the BMT Broadway line in 1912 the pneumatic subway was rediscover but later the station was destroyed for construction of a station call City Hall and City Hall station is open up to this day with a uncompleted lower level platform
It was an experimental demonstration line that only lasted a short time. I think tge technology was either unworkable, unreliable or uneconomic. Electric trains were just becoming a thing and I think just no one was willing to financially back the pneumatic system.
Just found this, absolutely love it! Something nostalgic, yet eerie... couldn't put my finger on it. Very good, do you have any more works like this? BTW loved the music in the pneumatic transport tunnel, really got lost in it
That was cool! No, it didn't creep me out. That room that he walked into where he found the pneumatic tube - it looked like the room in 2001 A Space Odyssey, the one toward the end of the film. I saw that about fifty years ago and didn't like it all that much; it didn't make enough sense to me (so sue me; I'm on the autism spectrum). But I'll never forget that room.
As it says in the description, the music and effects came from GarageBand. This video was created 8 years ago. It looks like the current version of GarageBand may have different music clips.
In actuality, the Beach Subway only had ONE station (passengers got off the train at the same place that they got on--after a 300-foot ride, each way). Just the same, this was an AWESOME animation. Way to go! 😃
4:12 that bad guy... wait! Isn’t worth street abandoned? Is that why R142 trains won’t stop there? Btw, was there an shuttle running from worth street to times sq?
I turned it off because my 4 year old was watching it too while lookin up trains. It’s super creepy. Seems like it leads down a weird RUclips rabbit hole.

This so werid but give me so much memories
I was serching for this from hours!
“the express would take me all the way to Grand Central” I thought it was 14th Street, then Grand Central
Well he entered from Brooklyn Bridge
And when he meant 'all the way to Grand Central' he was saying that the final station is Grand Central, Logic

He wanted to get to 23rd Street. This is so creative!
My 4yr old likes this. I had to ask him what he was watching because that voice is odd.

I know this is very late The creator said it was his wifes voice and they used a masculine voice editor thing or something i cant remember
Anyone watching in 2024?
This is nostalgia.
What are the songs used here?
Glad you liked it. That creepy narrator voice is actually my wife Linda (filtered in GarageBand to sound masculine).
