Although I've always been a big fan of the IRT Redbird trains, to me the R38s with their corrugated stainless steel sheaths were the prettiest out of all of NYC's subways, new and old.

They closely resembled the Budd Company built subway trains of the Market Frankford subway line in Philadelphia that was made in 1960 and 1961. But both types had ceiling fans when built. The R38 was built in 1966. I am a New Yorker.

I remember that time somewhere in late 90s when as an all time construction service the C train run express from 145 St to Canal St making the D local after 145 to 59 St......then evening and weekend service from 168 St to WTC, C would skip only 50 St(while during that time, A was local in Brooklyn)

I wish the St. Louis Car Company could build more r44s and I also wish they could run on the E, F, M, and R lines

In their time , they were lemons due to the mechanical equipment, but was fixed several years by the MTA. St. Louis Car Company went bankrupt in 1974 and has been out of business since that year. It doesn't exist.
