    1968 In Spokane Washington I would ride my Apple Crate Schwinn to Dishman Honda and look at the mini bikes till my stomach hurt so bad I would have to go behind the building and throw up. Seeing Chips work has the same effect on me. Thank you, for letting me still be a kid that loves what he sees so much, that I can barely stand it.

    Big fan of Chip and his work. With a business you have to do what the customer wants. In my perfect world a car like this would be restored to original appearance with updates and upgrades that made it safer and perform better. E.g. tires, shocks, exhaust, updated camshaft design, etc. And the V12 would remain.

      @@IzthatafaC I've had the pleasure of driving an E-type convertible series 1 once (I think, it was a 6 straight) and I was amazed by the sheer power and drivability for a car from 1961. I was used to driving a Healey 3000 MK1 but that's just a different world.

      Are you kidding AM V12's are junk. They feed the mains from a single end of the crankshaft. They are mostly Ford V6. It would have been nice with the Aussie LS V12 though but it may have been a bit much for an E type. These things are deadly due to front end lift generated at speed. They look gorgeous though.

      @@dazaspc It just seems like everyone is putting LS motors in classic cars of every make and model. Surely there is something out there that would be more in character with an E-Type. While I am a great admirer of Chip Foose whose thrilling work has inspired generations of creative custom car enthusiasts, I must raise a point or two about this Jaguar. Stretching the lines and deleting the folding top to produce a speedster are creative ideas the deserve some respect, but this concept looks slightly like a synthesis of a Jaguar E-Type V12 with a 1955-59 Corvette. The tail lights owe too much to the Corvette, and the chrome side moulding is just so very unnecessarily Harley Earlish, as opposed to the cleaner and more fluent lines of the Jaguars of the Malcolm Sayer Era (C-Type, D-Type, E-type, XJ13). The concave air inlet defaces the leading edge of the engine bulge and speaks volumes about the uncomfortable Americanization of this Foose E-Type. I am looking forward to seeing the car in a finished state, although the power plant is a huge slap in the face of the legendary Jaguar aesthetic. Why not send the V12 to Jason Len of XKs Unlimited who could have done an XJ13 version finished to Foose aesthetic standards with ceramic coatings and hidden accessories? Even a Jaguar 6-cylinder, the compact and bullet-proof Chevy V8 of Great Britain, would have been a far more gracious selection. While the end result will thrill the hearts of Foose fanatics, I fear that it will represent a folly to Jaguar and those who revere its mighty heritage - especially icons including Steve McQueen, Tony Curtis, Enzo Ferrari and Norman Dewis.

    To many of the comments,
    I have yet to see a bad custom body work by Chip, I reserve my judgement when I see the the end result of any project, done professionally or not but he and a few others certainly have my respect. I've seen many customs by many custom vehicle builders /enthusiasts over the years, do some very awesome one -off work.
    That is to say,
    I don't necessarily approve of all end results from different builders but at the same time, I focus primarily on the most important part......... When you take in the flawless raw seamless, hand hammered sheet metal body work , you can't help but stand back and marvel at something that will take very little body filler to take it over the top.
    When a mere mortal can draw something on paper, take that drawing and turn it into a reality, that is pretty remarkable right there! There aren't many people out there who can even draw well, let alone, bolt a fender on and properly align it. There's a very good reason why Chip Foose has won the Ridler award more than a few times, I'll leave it at that

    • @richardharrold9736
      @richardharrold9736 5 лет назад +2

      Not easily done. That was a DOHC motor, basically two short-deck 2.4 XK6s sharing a crank. The production V12 is a tall-deck wet-liner engine with a wider bore centre spacing than the XK. It's a big, heavy old hector of an engine, and even tweaked heavily, you're not going to get much more than 400bhp out of it. Swapping in an LS is infuriating, but they're the most ubiquitous 21st century hot-rod engine for a lot of very good reasons. Light, compact, excellent power density - the Jag V12 is none of these things. Now, various companies in the UK have fitted DOHC heads to the Jag V12, and Neville Swales of Building the Legend, an XJ13 replica builder, is in the process of developing a new DOHC V12 based on the SOHC Jag block, but it's still 2 valves per cylinder and not that high-revving, so the power-to-weight ratio isn't brilliant. The V12 was always too long and heavy for the E-type anyway, it ruined the handling.

    Love your work, but I’m sure you are going to get more than a little flack for cutting up an E-type. And we all know an LS is a terrific engine, bullet proof with lots of power but does one really belong in that car? I’m surprised you did that.

    chip, your drawing of the tail light on the rear quarter was so realistic looking I couldn't tell it was drawn on until i saw it from another angle.
    I do think you should go with another engine because it's a jag. put a new jag v8 in the car so it's not so cookie cutter. I love ls motors but I feel like it doesn't fit the theme of the car.

You have made a wonderful choice in not buying another new FerrarLamboStangVette911ently, and just cut the Foose loose with your cheque book instead!!!

Got a lot of attention, but it wasn't a great car. At the dealer a lot. Some great cars available today.

    Chip, with all due respect and admiration for your talents I feel compelled to get this opinion to you. The original E-Type appeared feminine and graceful. Please reconsider the course, brash aggressive egg-crate grill.
    More importantly, consider the tail lamps flowing horizontally with the bumper line. Blobs on top of the fender humps doesn't add grace to the lines.

I would want an LS as well, minimal down time and cost to repair if bogged to deep. Handling will be improved as well with lighter power plant. Subtle changes to body are nice and in Foose taste as always. Great job, excited to see how it handles.

      The V12's open-deck wet-liner design makes it a poor choice for boost. Nowhere near the LS's block strength. Twin supercharging has been done but at the expense of reliability and longevity. An XK6 could be boosted...

    I'm seeing a lot of negative comments about different aspects of this car, so my 1962 XKE owning self has to
    comment. That was a converted D-Type racer, before the factory was built. I got used to no glass over the
    headlights and wire wheels, a big part of the character of the car for me. The long stroke six cylinder is also
    a big part of the character, all that torque and the jaguar sound, taking it up to 120 mph in second and then
    changing into third, the front end rising up as the motor growls. I always thought that from behind, it looked too
    much like a tadpole, and similar designs from other English manufacturers had nicer looking rear ends.
    I'd have a very difficult time thinking about painting a color, but natural metal is always very attractive.
    The traditional racing green with yellow trim is very nice, but then I'm of Buchanan ancestry, our tartan colors,
    so that's more than just very nice. I hope I get to see this car going down the road. I'm still out there.

    On its release in March 1961 Enzo Ferrari called the Jaguar E -Type "the most beautiful car ever made", and, in my opinion, Chip Foose is one of very few individuals capable of making it even more beautiful.
    BUT, as so many other commentators have said, in summary - please do not belittle the car and all of the wonderful work put into it by using the most common of power plants. There is a place and use for the almost ubiquitous LS engine but this is neither the right use nor the right place.
    By using anything other than a Jaguar motor you are turning a gorgeous silk purse into a mundane sow's ear.

      Takes four cams and a supercharger to make 503-567bhp. When an LS3 crate motor makes up to 525bhp with no power adders, and the LS9 exists, it's hard to justify the AJ-V8 as a hot-rod powerplant.

      No......how to turn a sows ear into a silk purse. Have you ever owned an E type? No,thought not. Lucas electrics were crap & many other parts not much better. The owner wants his own version of the original & it'll be a show winner,which is why he's paying the big bucks. He wants a Hot Rod,which is why the dated V12 has to go. Swapping out the overweight slug for a big horsepower V8 with a 4L60E behind it is brilliant. Ever seen a car that Foose fucked up.....No, and you never will!

    • @OrnumCR
      @OrnumCR 4 года назад +1

      myredute ....I take it you’ve owned Jaguar cars?? The all alloy V12 is 60 kilos heavier than the famous XK straight six. As for the electrics, everything works in my car. Parts don’t fall off and the car always starts. All down to how the vehicle was looked after I think. You must have had a bad experience with a dud car. As for what’s been done here, this is no longer an E-Type. It’s a hot rod that was a British classic. It’s now so seriously modded that any link with the original is now basically lost. No, the creator has not gone wrong, he’s just reinterpreted an original car and morphed it into something else that started as a Jaguar car and that still sports Jaguar badges with some original Jaguar DNA. That’s where the relationship ends. This is simply a Foose Special that used a Jaguar as a base.
