"If we had started out with Series One, people would want to cut our heads off." LOL! He's right and he knows it. Glad he addressed that right off the bat.
I'm just a car guy but making this car Chevy powered is automotive sacrilege. It's akin to having a Chevrolet powered Mustang. If it were just a hot rod I could MAYBE see it, but given the level of elegance your shooting for I think the power plant is a huge mistake. I'm pretty sure Jaguar has some engines that can meet the horsepower requirement you have in mind. I'm very surprised you didn't insist on that.
I agree... That has always irritated me!! And your right, I'm sure Jaguar currently has a motor that would meet expectations!!
so much talent and skills under one roof, just overwhelming
david craddock my cousin on this show! 👊🏼
The build looks great, but why not use the new 5.0 V8 575HP engine from the Jaguar F-Type?
probably not available as a crate motor with ECU support.
What FIrst Last said, and the Jag engine is most likely significantly larger and heavier. LS engines are light and compact.
I saw this car at SEMA. It is a totally custom interpretation of the Jaguar. Absolutely awesome. None of the photos that I have seen capture the true beauty of this car or that phenomenal paint job- its beautiful. What an awesome vision to bring about this transformation.
For my British cars friends that are appalled... get over it!! You say nothing when someone converts a 40 year old survivor into a race car. So step back and appreciate the fact that Foose transformed this survivor into a wonderful work of art that truly compliments the ideal and vision of Jaguar.
I always liked FOOSE's design and quality of craftsmanship, this is the first time I do disagree with him.
The Jag V12 motor can be modernized using new induction, cooling and electrical systems, I realize the GM
LS engines are incredibly reliable, easy to adapt in different applications and on top of everything, they are not that expensive and you can produce a lot of power from them... definitely one of the best engine architectures ever!
But a Jag with a Chevy engine, I just don't swallow that easy!
Maybe I am too purist!
Recycle the jag engine put it in a hot rod
Pablo Céspedes , well said, exactly how I feel.
What would a rebuilt, properly upgraded Jaguar V12 cost compared to an out-of-the-box Chevy? Getting the right guy to tune and maintain the Jag engine could be challenging too...
there are many excellent Jag engines that would have gone well in this car. from classic to modern. more horsepower isn't a real excuse, easier and cheaper is the only reason I can see for a LS
An AJ-v8 from 1999-2008 with the super charger would have made enough power to move that car along, and a donor XJR is not too expensive. That being said it would have been a tight fit in that chassis and sorting the engine/trans computers would be a pain.
I love Jags, I love Foose's work, I'm not loving this. I think its the hood scoop that doesnt work, looks like it belongs on his thunderbird from years back, its not right for a jag.
violentblue123 nah it’s the ls swap and tail lights, I’m all for practicality and performance but an ls is a boring proposition in 2019 (v12 ls on the other hand?). And the taillights although more cohesive should be tilted 90 degrees pointed outwards to follow the series 1’s look.
@@hugolinning3133 came here to say the same: those rear lights do not work nor flow good. They should be horizontal and closer to the center like the MkI E-type.
I think that swapping the ls made the car less elegant. If they needed more power, they should have upgraded its original v12.
Wouldn’t you love to have a DVD showing the creation of this car? Most of us will never be able to afford it, but it would be great to at least see it being formed and constructed. Beautiful car.
Love what ur doing to it but not really sure about the “heart transplant” Why not use the modern V8 SC from a XJR..
Exactly!
g gilroy : perhaps reliability and power?
I was wondering the same thing. The modern supercharged Jaguar engines are very good.
More practical. Ls engines are easyer to maintain in USA and to do dignose. Ever spare parts is easy.
Price, reliability , ease of maintenance, parts availability ... shall I continue ?
The heart of an E Type is its engine and you have just ripped the soul out of this car regardless of your motives.
Sure...and the Lucas electrics make it really special...
I agree, if you wanted something different than the v12, how about a early 4.2 with twin turbo's, for power. And then there is the issue of an automatic trans!
I love everything about it except the hood scoop , but thats just personal . Its going to be something special when its done. Amazing work yet again .
Agree. Hood scoop is ripping off Ferraris
And yes the Jag v12 is a piece of poo, but the 6 cylinder is an awesome engine, and real Jags have 6 cylinder engines
Looks like a late model T Bird scoop. It's the only fault in my eyes.
I still say the E type roadster is the SEXIEST Car ever made
@Better Than You "I still say" implies it is his opinion mate...
In my opinion, Chip Foose is a visionary. He and his crew are true artisans .
Doesn't it break your heart to put paint over that lovely metal once its all shaped and smoothed out?
Beefalo Bart : brush finish those wheels and matte clear coat, I'd drive her with no color
In the Jaguar XJR-12 Group C prototype racing car, the V12engine that you just ditched (with an increased bore of 7.0l) developed 750bhp...
The engine choice totally ruined it. That v12 can easily be tuned to 450bhp plus. Jaguar got 700 out of it in the xjr9.
What a shame
My thoughts exactly. Problem is most just don't know how to deal with the Jaguar V12. It's a nightmare for them unless they have the knowledge that's needed. If built and tuned correctly a Jag V12 can put out amazing power and torque. I've seen 800hp in a powerboat application. The boat literally flew on the water. No doubt the E type is an iconic car.
Looks amazing and coming along nicely, love the concept drawings👍
Beautiful
Absolutely Stunning design. I can't wait to see it complete.
It would be an honor just to have a rendering drawing of one of your designs, I can't imagine the joy it would be to have a car designed by you.
Sorry....you lost me at "LS"
$500k car with some 2 cent "jewelry" under the hood???? Quite a disappointment and takes away from the whole image of the build.
It went from a special "Foose" car to a carport build using Harbor Freight tools...
Nice work Chip. Really nice to see this kind of raw content on youtube.
I much prefer this format over the overproduced tv stuff -- it's a different day and age you are still rockin' it.
All I can say is wow to the fabrication skills on display here.
Subbed 100%
Foose, I for sure know and am convinced of you being a life bringer / materializer of dreams and the fuel is pure love for what you do. Respect!
A superb lesson on how to take something which is already perfect and totally bugger it up !!!
Only an American could be so arrogant
As a kid the first car to get my eyes was the “Gullwing” 300SL then one day I saw an E type and have loved them ever since!
Never saw a 300SL in person but have seen and riden in an E type. A neighbor had one with a bad motor and horrid wiring. He gutted it rewired and put a built 302 Ford in it.
Have had a stiffy for E types ever since!
Harry Ballzack if your ever in Malaga Spain there is a 300SL in a collection displayed next to an Aston Martin DB4 - both cars i dreamt about as a youngster (and still do dream about!)
Horrid wiring?
That was the Joseph Lucas standard.
Growing up in the '70s this has to be my all-time favorite car. I remember having a 1/24th scale model of this car in British Racing Green. It was something to do with the large hood that really made me fall in love with this car. I would love to have Foose design and build me a car. His attention to detail is so amazing. I remember watching the series he had on tv where he would walk with the person after the car was complete and explain all the small details that you would miss if not told. Dreams...
Gorgeous as usually from a master.
Magnificent.
OK, going to be "that guy".....................
Chip should keep his booger-hooks off certain cars. The E-Type is one such car.
No, this isn't "better" than the original. This sucks. Sorry, NOT sorry.
You could have made it more pure wih a drivetrain from Jaguars SVR units. For me it would have been a more unique / interesting setup.
As far back as I can remember, ever since the first episode of overhauled, I wanted to see Chip get a hold of this model of car...and knew he could do something incredible and make it unbelievably awesome....glad to see it finally happened and I WAS RIGHT!
Absolutely gorgeous Jaguar Chip! Not a fan of the LS swap, seems sacraligious to me. Could you not have re-worked the V12? I'm thinking fuel-injected, aluminium heads, even turbocharged, but retaining the 'look' of that engine. An LS just feels like a cop-out. Not being nasty Chip, it's that this would be my dream car, with all of the subtle changes you're doing, seems it deserves the sonorous sound of a flat-out V12, it's what I always thought made this a Ferrari & Lamborghini killer!
I would have kept the v12 and updated it, get it flowing better. I love the sound of that v12.
Yep, not one of those stupid GM V8. Sacrilege !
And don't start me on those horrific wheels !! Damn you Foose ! How can you !?
@@marcryvon oh the arrogance, thinking he can make an E-Type better.
smh
I'd have stayed in the family at the very least keeping the V12 or swapping to the XK6 4.2 motor. Admittedly, the V12s are a pain in the ass to keep running well, both the V12 and straight six can make well over 400 HP if you try hard enough.. the killer though is putting in a slushbox.
Your talking about a American guy that's going to own this, if it breaks he can go right to a AutoZone and get it! You get that, right?
IMO, it should have been a straight six. If you listen to Leigh Morris' e-type running at santa pod, you will understand. Up there with the F1, Zonda and metzger engines porsches as one of the best sounding cars ever.
Love you Foose. Your builds are mostly to notch. Being an Art Center x-pat I appreciate your serious work. However, in this case I think a modern Jaguar engine such as their supercharged v6 or regular v-8 would have been more befitting if you wanted crazy horsepower. I personally would have used the Eagle brand bored out JAGUAR inline 6. After all, we are not kids anymore, adequate speed along with true original character of an inline 6 would be heavenly. With the LS you are mixing soul of a corvette with a beautiful Jaguar. When you press on the accelerator pedal it will feel like a corvette nor a Jaguar which builds torque as you rev that sweet inline 6. This reminds me of that awful build by ICON, you know, the one where he used an LS engine in a vintage Bentley. You can see it on Jay Leno's garage. A total misguided effort. Best of luck.
You can't improve on the design of the e type, I don't care if you're called Foose!!
Floyd Solo. True, and on top of that he rips out a V12 and uses a chevy v8. Blasphemy!!!
It's like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa.
windshield and bumpers are better.
Yeah you can, the Eagle Speedster looks better than a stock E-Type, Foose hasn't made it better looking although i don't think its looks bad, just different.
Personally my preferences have always been series 1, series 2 and series 2 and a half. These 3 series were ugly whales compared to the svelt early cars. It bothers ne not one bit to make these slug ugly cars beautiful again. However, im no fan of the LS swap! The inline Jag 6 has many new variants with plenty of HP. I would have taken out the boat anchor v12 for the 6 over a v8.
On another note, the workmanship here cannot be denied!
Design and craftmanship as we can expect !....props to the whole team!....thank you for the vid mr foose!
I love his stuff but that car cant be improved.
Foose loves to modify but this time he has gone a bit to far. It’s no longer a Jaguar. It’s a Q type now .
Not an improvement over the standard E-Type in any way. Kind of like trying to "improve" Sophia Loren in hr prime.
It is so refreshing to see such a genius... being so humble. I often think of the difference between being a manager and a leader, Chip is a leader.
You rarely ever see an engineer or architect put so much blood, sweat and tears into their design! I bet his crew is *fiercely* loyal to him! Big brain, big talent and *HUGE* heart!!!
Having worked with metal for many years, to see that jag sat there in bare metal, just shows the high levels of metal working craftsmanship displayed by your staff!!!!!!
One dumb question: Which parts are from the orignal car?
The wishbones in the Front suspension..but maybe that will be upgraded too
Lots of respect for Foose, but his approach just does not work for an elegant classic Jag like this. He is THE guy for american muscle customs, but better stay away from europeans
Don't worry about the tossers who can't understand that weight in a restoration is everything. Swapping a slug for a tornado is what it's all about & the 4L60E is the best 4 speed auto GM ever used!
Love the concept, being a jag fan disappointing foose didn’t use the v12. That’s what makes jaguar iconic.
Wow Chip you have done it again ! Beautiful...you are and your crew are amazing.
So much talent and so many skills but absolutely zero taste. You took the most beautiful car in the word and put a bonnet scoop on it and then swapped the stunning V12 for a Chevvy engine? What will you do next? Go to the Louvre and paint on a diamante choker to the Mona Lisa?
Wheels are out of scale with the rest of the car, just too overwhelming for the car
I think Chip will have more than a few "casual observers" from Jaguar strolling by. It's always satisfying to see a job not just done right, but with just the right amount of attention to detail. Looking forward to the unveiling.
For Chip Foose, just perfection is enough, congratulations for the great work.
I don't know FOOSE had a RUclips channel... SUBSCRIBED.
There are certain cars that should not be modified and this design is one of them. Sorry but the C Type, D Type the XKSS and the E type do not need modifications. I know this guy is talented with his car designs but there comes a time to leave a design alone because when they came out of the factory they were perfect.
Your metal work is so incredibly exacting and beautiful I think you could get away with just spraying clear on the metal. Looking forward to the final reveal of this project. Stunning work as ever.
I like the way that the unpainted silvery metal looks. If it could be tweeked by making the finish of it more even, that would be an awesome look for a car like this. I wonder why that's not ever done with cars. At least I've never seen it done that way on a car.
Wow! This is really amazing work! Thank you so much for the video!
It stopped being an E-Type when you tore it's heart out.
Laxpowertoo - agree, and the front-on view, to me anyway, closely resembles a Ferrari.
Hat's off to Chip and the team. Beautiful car, amazing detail and a superb tribute to one iconic car.
I wish more people had this kind of pride in their work, it's sadly lacking these days.
👍👍
The parts that foose did not redesign are nice.
: Great-work-once-again, but, you-put-a-what-in-it?!? : Guess-no-one-told-you, you-can't-polish-a-turd. : I-too-am-working on a CHEV-engine, but, for my boat, filled-with-cement on the end of a chain.
Man your artwork always blows me away and to bring it alive exact as your art is amazing, cant wait to see the finale
Amazing work Chip! Thats why I predict your going to builder of the decade again! Masterpieces, one and all!
"It's not gonna smack you in the face with how wild it is,it's going to smack you in the face because it's so elegant".....You made my day,Respect on so many levels,.👏🙂🇬🇧
Great design & workmanship , would have been nice to put a 600 hp supercharged 5ltr Jag V8 in & keep it all Jaguar but stiil an amazing car.
3:33 Here is the exact description for why Chip Foose is on another league altogether from other car designers. And he keeps getting better and better.
I love your work Chip, BUT you just turned a beautiful series 3 E-type into a LUMP! When I think Jaguar I think Jaguar ENGINE! You could've used a `95-97 XJR drive train or a JAGUAR V8. A bowtie engine destroys this car. I am a Jaguar owner and there is nothing "elegant" about anything powered by a damn Chevrolet bellybutton engine. Sorry, but this build is really disappointing.
Agreed. With all of the talent and skill Foose has at his disposal, a frame-up restoration would have been nice.
This one is no longer a Jag.
"Frankenjag?
Wrong work !!! Please rebuilt this Jaguar in identic condition !
I can not wait to see the finished product. it already looks absolutely amazing , but in my opinion, dam near anything Chip does is just stunning.
As always, Chip amazing job you’ve created. Best to you and the hands that got to work on this gem. 👍
What kind of idiot desecrate s an etYpe the most beautiful car ever made absolute abomination and discraceful !
You go for it Chip!Your designs are over the top every time....I do tiny amounts of body work and understand how many man hours goes into a small project...Nothing but "fantastic" each time I see another Foose work of art..I only wish my dad took the time to teach like yours did for you...
a jaguar must have a jaguar motor
Why always use the ls, engines, soooooo boooooring. On to the next project. Maybe grow some brains and be more technical. No thumbs down though.
Lol! His plan for a ls is simple! That's why it's being used, you sure like to spend other people's money, why's that?
It's not the engine that's the mistake it's the transmission, make mine a standard or don't bother!
It's beautiful..., but why American V8..🙄
This car has transitioned into a work of art....great job guys...the fab work is unreal
Wow. It's gorgeous!! It takes alot of confidence (balls) to take on quite possibly the prettiest design ever. Love it.
Foose has killer designs that they ruin with giant dubs and razor thin tires...bleh.
Boa tarde carro 1972 Chevy Pu vai amém bom 📝😷💪👌👍🙏🇺🇸
He probably has 40 or more hours just on those tail light lenses. Takes an incredible amount of time and skill to make a car look like that.
Yeah! He is a great guy, great designer too! Love what he has done to the front end, the rear I would have made resemble the '61 original too! - but will be an awesome car. Would have kept the V12 though!
Wow! What an amazing piece of art! Can’t with to see it once it’s fully painted.
A hideous bastardization of a true classic, shame on you Foose, what are you thinking? And those centerline like wheels, I want to hurl....
They are obviously just rollers...
I am sure if he doesn't already have it, Foose deserves the title of "Master Craftsman". The level of artistry in his cars is unbelievable
It’s like drawing a beard and glasses on the Mona Lisa
I totally agree
WOW!!! May be my favotite Foose design yet. Masterpiece! As for cutting classic cars...There will always be plenty of people restoring to original.
Thank you for your detailed explanations. I have much respect for your artistry. All of your rationale is sound.
So I have decided that if there were to be a royal family of hot rod builders Chip would certainly be considered among them.
Sir Chip, thank you for all you do to keep us petrol heads drooling. Your art is awe inspiring! Never falter in leading the charge toward the innovation & originality only you can envision. Stand fast & stand true.
I bid you peace, Sir!
I’d rather have an inline 6 as opposed to the v8... but who cares, this car is amazing!
Agree. That's an awesome built but will be missing the sexy exhaust note of that inline 6.
One of the greatest designers working on one of the greatest cars. It doesn’t get much better than that. Thanks for the video.
Ernie D one of the greatest and world renowned designed it in the first place. He took a classic and turned it into something else thats going to be dated in 10yrs. The original design was timeless. Im a fan of Chips but really an E type? That is painful to watch.
As usual, every component is a piece of artwork......the end product will be stunning!!
Needs wire wheels man, it’s a Jag
If you look at Chips sketch, wire wheels are there .:)
I'm sure the final wheels will be amazing👍
He probably will put wires on it, but remember, it's not a "Jag" anymore, it's a _hot rod._ *Nothing* is sacred to a hot rodder! They will chop and/or modify _any_ part of _any_ car to make it stand out against a stock version. It's the only thing about *true* hot rodders that I don't really like. _Some_ cars and design elements, just shouldn't be changed ...others need to be chopped to pieces and completely reengineered. Lol
Knock off Minilites get my vote.
Take a look at the Dunlop race wheels on a D-Type. The 3 x Le Mans winner. 1955, '56, '57.. An E-Type looks good on them too.
“People would wanna cut our heads off”. 😂 You can just see this is going to be one stunning creation and the ultimate modern representation of an iconic car.
The engine is great the lights superb. But. Those wheels! No no no. It looks like they came off a golf buggy
The ones currently on it or in the rendering? The ones in the rendering are what will be on the car when it's finished
This is amazing. A master at work. Been one of my idols my whole life. I wish I could half as good one day. How do I meet you Mr.Foose? It'd be an honor
I've met him, and he is honestly a really nice guy. I met him at a car show and got his autograph. After he provided the autograph he offered me a handshake, which never happened to me before.

Or, follow him on Twitter to find out any events near you that he might be attending.
Go to his shop he has a store in it you can buy a few thing's and have him sign it. If he's there or not busy but if he's there he will make time. That's how cool he is. I meet him many year's ago at a Good Guy's car show in Northen California.
Back then is when Good Guy's was barely getting started.
Beautiful! Both as standard and with Foose re-imagining 👌
I wonder if the guy 5 doors up from me who has a coupe E Type has seen this...
Fosse & Team you guys are amazing!!
Absolutely stunning love the E-type jaguar
should have put one of the modern supercharged jaguar V8's in then it would be a jaguar not a jagrolet
Hahah jagrolet, a rare bird ! loll
Wow ! You guys are all artists 👌🏻👍🏻
I would have said no to the LS if it were my dime.
for crying out loud when u going to pronounce jaguar correctly also dont spoil the original with that chev motor how disgusting love your work on the metalwork
I just adore Foose design ideas. Everything has the attention to detail plus the manual labor involved, you can really appreciate all the love and labor poured into this beauty. Keep up the good work guys!👍🏻 Greetings from the Philippines!🇵🇭
What the hell,,, when the video started my heart started beating fast.
This is how I like to see Foose in deep in his own element fretting the details.
" RIPE!"
Nice car but a shame they used that hood scoop...
Nice one Chip, I remember being told that although it looks a sleek aerodynamic shape, a lot of excessive drag came from inside the wheel arches.
Chip u & your team is just amazing
