Other than the before and after of Overhaulin’, watching Chip Foose draw up the concepts and what he could quickly come up with on the show was the most enjoyable part of the show for me.
@H D I remember one episode of Overhaulin' where he visited a children s hospital and asks some girl undergoing cancer treatment what her favorite car is. MUSTANG! She says, so Chip puts a piece of paper down in front of her and starts rendering a perfect illustration of a hot rod mustang right before her eyes. Oh, BTW... One small detail.. He's drawing the picture upside-down, so the little girl has the proper perspective the entire time. Mind BLOWN!!!!
Chip, I am 72 and a C5 convertible owner. I tried to visit your shop late last year but cI was too early, to my dismay.I am a part-time car drawer and love your C5 rendition. If not for my age and financial status I would be all over you and your shop to "make it mine". You are the best and I respect how to educate and give back to the automotive industry! I was offered a scholarship back in the late 60's to Art Center and it is my number one regret, maybe I could have worked for you.

Chip Foose is a "National Treasure" and should be treated as such! He has the imagination of kid with killer drawing precision & a uncanny attention for details. Thank you Sir!
He’s always been a very personable yet classy person and willing to spend the time with you and appreciate you as well while talking to you ! I’ve met him multiple times at shows and events and most of all he’s a family person too 😎🇺🇸👍🏻
A piece of paper, a ballpoint pen, and a straight edge...... BAM a masterpiece! Hey Chip, I have a 2001 C5 Z06 with only 35K original miles, if you ever want to make that rendition a reality.
dude 90% of this magic happened with the paint brush. wow that's the chip foose difference. just keeps adding more and more color and lines and beauty. then BAM those highlights step it up into a different realm.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I smiled all the way through it. Chip is one of the guys you are lucky to meet. What an artist. I'm a Vette nut and I had a supercharged C5. I totaled it. Car guys can see what they want usually, but the concept of building your own body mods? Leave it to Mr Foose.
I worked at the GM Desert Proving Grounds back in 94, You would have liked the two C5 Prototypes we had there. We wrapped them up to look like "Bat Mobiles". You're right they really did perform. I am proud to have been part of that car.
What a brilliant designer! Loved this guy's work ever since i saw the first OverHaulin' show. And with the show, I learned to like him as a car guy and just being a nice person overall. So to go back to what he does, you can see his designs are well balanced. While I don't agree with everything he does (matter of taste obviously) he is a guy who could well have worked for a big outfit like GM or any other manufacturer but wouldn't have been happy there. Good thing you chose to do your own stuff Chip. Keep on doing it! Thanks for showing how you do it too!
To the Hagerty webmaster. Thanks for the series, Chip Foose is a rare commodity in the design community. If you talk to him sometime soon, Urge him to offer his services to GM to help with the C-8. They certainly need it.
Yes Chip I totally agree with you on that a chop don't go with every car depending on the styling of the car, like the 1958 and 1959 Impala because it takes away from the proportion and totally hurts the design but like the 50 merc when u see one that hasn't been chopped, instantly you see how much the chopped design has enhanced the look and the proportion of the vehicle.
What unbelievable talent! Guy takes a blank sheet of paper and makes it come to life and move! Incredible! Thanks for the insight into your design methodology! Fascinating!
I was watching you scetch and then add color. You my friend are a really skilled artist. Those markers are like water colors. You can use them to shade and get the subject to really look the way you want. Your better with a marker and a Ballpoint than 95% of the artists are with a brush. I am Truly impressed. Love your designs . Keep working to save us from the hum drum boring cars and Trucks. You are a True Artist !

He probably looked at his name, wrote it in 20 different fonts and styled afterwards. He made it his own. I think we all do somewhat the same thing. I sure am going to look into this! LOL!
I’ve always loved the part of a project where Chip is sketching and I wished to see more or learn about the thoughts behind the sketch, well here it is. Thanks Chip for the time and for sharing this.
For you to use a pen with your initial freehand rendition shows how talented your work is. I use a pencil so I can erase mistakes then I go over with a pen. Very nice!

Of all the artist who draws cars like those on TV not to name names cant beat Chip Foose. Love how his drawing has so much movement and looseness and yet lots of detail. Love his design sense makes me wish I had a car and lots of money to spend so he can design something for me. One can dream lol.
Thanks for adding them “gills” Back on design. The only element that are visually needed to finalize it’s shape would be the ‘humped’ forward wheel fenders like on the C3. I see the bringing back of the ‘90s firebird rear deck. Nice touch. Now onto the C6.
I love the idea of this series and especially Chip's passion and explanation about the design importance of both elements and styling of an era prominent in the first episode. I hope the rest are more like that

I remember seeing this when it was originally broadcast, quite a while back... obviously well before the C8 was released... I was a Training Aides Artist for the Marine Corps, many years ago... and I used the same basic method of very faint starter lines, then darken in lines as I progressed... then overlays as I got closer to the finished idea. It was long before Computer-Aided Design... and everything was by hand...

Chip, you started by doing what many said couldn't be done- the Alien, a '40 Ford Panel Sedan, a design derived from Edsel Ford's International Design Award winning '40 Ford Sedan, was the first project that took you out of just being Sam Foose's son, and being Chip Foose in your own right. Your dad builded well in you- it shows in every design since. I was a kid in short pants reading Rod& Custom in a little paper back book size magazine, usually in black and white, following Sam Foose, Sam and the Barris Bros (remember El Matador?). Your didn't leave a single panel untouched on the Alien- angle chopped the top, peaked the fenders, blended the '37 Ford headlights into the front fenders- and at first glance it wasn't obvious at all- but you had built a car that Edsel would have recognized and very likely would have approved of. That's because you are Chip Foose. You keep drawing and dreaming and I'll keep watching. Thanks,FR
I have a cutlass that my father handed down to me which I grew up in it but Chip would be the only one that I would let resto-mod the stock but monster look on the car ... my dad passed 20 years ago and my ideas and his I know my dad would love the look and muscle of it because it was his baby and womenizer...... love your passion my friend and yeah the art too! Lol ✌🏼
I have a C5. I have wanted a Corvette all my life and finally bought one three years ago. I love this design! Would love to have Chip build it for me if I had the money.
The C5's body design was dictated by aerodynamic efficiency - not angular aesthetics based on current fads or styling trends. As such, it will be much more highly regarded in the future than others like the C6 and C7 as it took less horsepower to go through the air at 100mph than any other Corvette. The most elegant designs are those that work best with nature. The "softer" lines of the C5 are as beautiful to look at 20 years later as they are functional. Moreover, the styling of the C5 makes it the quintessential Corvette - respecting and incorporating style cues from past models while adopting the latest technology to make it outperform anything else near it's cost. Unlike the C5 with its unmistakable traditional Corvette headlights and swooping curves, the newer more angular models are hard to tell from a Camaro or other competing brands. The balancing act Chevy pulled off with the C5 in terms of evolutionary style and all out performance is still incredible by today's standards. Foose has always had a great style sense but some people actually place a higher value on style dictated by aerodynamic performance than "aggressive" lines. The C5 never really needed to have a "resto-mod" following. It is and always will be a modern classic in its own right - a force of nature.
Goose Quote of the Day I chosen one woman to spend the rest of my life with, but I chosen my hands to get every car that I can. Love it FOOSE keep them coming
Awesome job Chip! BTW, ‘63-‘64 Corvettes had 2 horizontal scallops on the front fenders, ‘65-‘66 had 3 vertical gills. If you take the gills off of it, it almost looks like a customized 1996 Camaro.
It isn't just the car, he spends about equal time in bringing in the sky, to a certain grain and color of the earth on which it sits, and to me that is utterly amazing. He is the Picasso of automobile art. I don't think there's an episode of "Overhaulin" that I haven't seen.
I'll say he's good designer but I wouldn't go as for as saying Master designer ..... That would go to the guy who design Ferrari and the other guy who design Lamborghini
Good afternoon, what else can you say. You can't, it just don't get any better him. It just astonishes me with the ease that he does this art work. I have trouble drawing stick people that look somewhat recognizable. Thanks for another great video, you take care and good luck.
Wow, great lesson! Never knew about Sam Barris. Was happy to meet George and get pictures of my son sitting in the Batmobile at Seattle Roadster show years ago. Love Chip's description of the C5 Corvette, probably my least favorite body through the years. Fortunately the C6 followed, my favorite...so far.
Other than the before and after of Overhaulin’, watching Chip Foose draw up the concepts and what he could quickly come up with on the show was the most enjoyable part of the show for me.

YOU ARE BLESSED. WHAT YOU DO IS A GOD GIVEN TALENT. IF I RAN GM,FORD ETC. YOU WOULD BE OUR CAR DESIGNER. MAGNIFICO!!!
Goose Quote of the Day
I chosen one woman to spend the rest of my life with, but I chosen my hands to get every car that I can.
Love it FOOSE keep them coming
You have a great hand! Thanks for letting us see you in action.
Don't you wish you could build such a beautiful drawing as Chip did there? Wow!
TRUELY A REALLY GREAT ARTIST, ONE OF THE VERY VERY BEST, ALL THE VERY VERY BEST TO CHIP FOOSE , HOPE YOU HAVE A REALLY WONDERFUL DAY .
Sir every time I see the cars that you mold into a unique vehicle, there's only one word that always comes to mind....amazing!!!
Some of us hate the sharp edges of the later Vettes...There have been aftermarket nose and tail pieces such as the Tiger Shark that really work right.
This was so enjoyable to watch the Master Designer layin' a few ideas down! Thanks!
I'll say he's good designer but I wouldn't go as for as saying Master designer ..... That would go to the guy who design Ferrari and the other guy who design Lamborghini
i can watch Chip draw all day! incredible artist
I think you've just designed the C11 Corvette, Chip ..... l really love this design 👍
Your lines created movement where a lump of clay existed in the original. The rendition connotes speed and flow, well done sir.
Good afternoon, what else can you say. You can't, it just don't get any better him. It just astonishes me with the ease that he does this art work. I have trouble drawing stick people that look somewhat recognizable. Thanks for another great video, you take care and good luck.
Such a well mannered talented man, I could watch him all day
The man sketches with a PEN....and not a single eraser in sight 🙌
Mr. Chip Foose, You do an exceptional job on everything you do. Thank
I watched him on overhaul growing up, I fell in love and I've never looked back
Wow, great lesson!
Foose is the man! Companies are sick for not having him help them design cars
He's amazing. Could watch him sketch cars all day.
