Been a big fan of the X-Men since the first time I ever picked up a copy at the newsstand, issue #137. Have read them all until 2001. I enjoy your coverage of them. Keep up the great work.
I love vegging out on your channel. When ever I have an issue! I turn to you Comic Book Girl 19. Your comments help me work out my overthinking. Thanks!

Scott Summers comes damn close to being a paragon of masculine virtue without becoming unbelievable. As a kid, I always wrote him off as just a cliche "good guy" and couldn't understand why he was my sister's favorite. Now that I'm older I've can easily see how his character sometimes appears simple on the surface but always runs very deep. I hadn't even thought about how he's relationship-bait for telepaths but it makes perfect sense and thank you for widening my perspective!
Honestly the thought of a loving partner who just KNOWS when Im having a bad day and when Im feeling depressed sounds amazing. It can be such a struggle to communicate that stuff to people you care about. It would sadly make gift surprises impossible, but hey, its the thought that counts.
I remember when I was really into comics about 15 . This story line and spider man iron fist and Wolverine venom type team ups were big thing love to see the crazy off the wall team ups
Having never read the comics, I have a soft spot for the X-Men movies (especially First Class and Days of Future Past). They're what introduced me to the X-Men franchise and really got me into them. That said, watching Epic History X-Men was a really interesting look into the X-Men comics, and I hope you guys do more of them in the future! In Fox's defense though, I think the reason they tend to "blow the Dark Phoenix load" too soon (which, after watching Epic History X-Men, I must agree), is because the Hollywood three-act-structure is more stringent than comic book format. And it would be difficult to have solid stakes in a movie with a nigh-omnipotent character like Phoenix around. So in both the original trilogy and the new... tetralogy (?) the "Phoenix saga" always boils down to the Phoenix Force just awakening at the end of the previous movie right before jumping into the Dark Phoenix so that they don't have to deal with the issue of an omnipotent good guy who everyone will wonder why they don't just immediately resolve the problem. I'm sure there are stories that could still be done - the comics are proof of that - but they might be difficult to fit into a comfortable three-act structure. I still hope that Dark Phoenix is good - I don't think we should want it to turn out badly - but it's a shame that they didn't at least try to do the Hellfire Club/Black Queen shenanigans with Jason Wyngarde. While the X-Men movies have a been a lot more grounded (for lack of a better word) than the comics, and thus the spaceship adventures that get Jean the Phoenix Force might have been difficult to adapt in the current tone, I think Wyngarde's seduction and twisting of Jean into the Black Queen would have made for an awesome movie plot, especially with the Hellfire Club already having been setup in First Class.
When she said she didn't like the age of apocalypse, I was like oh hell no. But she said she doesn't like the downer storylines so I get it. AoA is almost all downer, but it's still freaking great.
Claremont is, in my opinion, the hands-down greatest long plot storyteller in comics over the past 50 years, if not ever. I got the chance to meet him last year at a con, and told him as much. The guy looked at me like I was mad. He doesn't even understand how good he is.
I agree. Dark Phoenix Saga could have been the next Infinity War. At least, Fox hasn't messed up with other Chris Claremont goodness like Marvel Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, Inferno, X-tinction Agenda, X-Men and the recovering Carol Danvers encounter the Brood, X-Men with new recruit Rogue in Japan, Mojo World, Alpha Flight, Shiar Empire, Shadow King, etc! I can't wait for Marvel Studios to do these!
Let's hope they throw the whole X-Men Dark Phoenix mess awayyy. Also loving the idea of Jean and Xavier secret affair via the Astral Plane 🔥👌🏾 PS, I was also a fan of the Psylocke / Cyclops sexual tension too 🌡️
The scenes in X-Men Evolution where they would play sports using their powers and sometimes competed to the point where it was like pranking each other were really great. We haven't really seen pointless fun family/team squabbles since Johnny and Ben in the first Fox Fantastic Four.
CBG19 I love and appreciate your passion and enthusiasm for X-Men. As a big fan, it's always an epic treat to watch your videos. For a while though personally, I enjoyed the X-Movies particularly from First Class to DoFP. Then Apocalypse happened and I'm like, "WTF? How could Fox drop the ball on this when they were starting to make at least decent movies finally?" And I've been nothing but sickeningly worried about how awful Dark Phoenix will be ever since I saw photos of the bland suits and the constant push backs of its release. I saw the teaser trailer and I felt...underwhelmed. To feel underwhelmed during an X-Men trailer of all things?? It's a stomach churning feeling. But anywho, thank you for all your awesome work. The conclusion to your Epic History X-Men made me cry it was so good. Stay cool, CBG. PS: I fucking was dying laughing when you pointed out how fucking crazy Logan is and isn't boyfriend material. 😂😂😂
leisureman85 you’re gonna hate the Disney x men then haha. I’ll probably love it only because the people at marvel I think are more in touch and can deal with “sjw “ subject with more ease. But people are gonna think marvel are being sjws just by sticking to the source material.
Lucasfilm then? The people that are in charge of Star Wars now only care about making money, not to set up a new good story. I despise TFA, Rogue One was underwhelming, I hate TLJ and I didn't even go to see Solo. People seem to believe that there's nothing more to Star Wars than "Rebellion vs Empire", but it's the opposite, and it's real shame.
What I want to see in the after credits scene of Avengers 4 is Tony Stark or whoever saying, “With all of that time travel, I can’t help but wonder if we changed anything.” And then pan to like Nathan Fillion as Wonder Man who says, “Everything seems fine to me.” And then pan over to the Beast who is hanging upside down and says, “I’ve checked with Reed and we’re 92.3% sure that the space-time continuum is exactly as it was.” End scene.
Chris Claremont originally was hired as a assistant writer for Daredevil and the BlackWidow then as a fulltime writer for Ironfist and then PowerMan and Ironfist and the Uncanny X-Men!! You know exactly how Misty, Colleen and Danny Rand were essential in introducing the 2nd generation of X-Men back into continuity with the Marvel Universe in the 70s because they were canceled in the 60s!!
Simon Kinberg is still talking about what the Gambit movie is going to be like. I love how he thinks the Singerverse is still a thing. It's almost touching. I wish I could be in the room when Kinberg has that rug pulled out from under him.
I can't wait for X-Men in the MCU. I wish you'd cover more X-Men stuff CBG19. You use images from X-Men Blue in this video. What do you think of all the new X-Men titles? What do you think of the latest X-Men Gold, Blue, Red, Weapon X, Astonishing X-Men, Jean Grey, Iceman, Cable, Rogue & Gambit, and Generation X? I didn't know you like Morrison's New X-Men. That Wolverine v. Cyclops brawl with Emma Frost getting pissed about them fighting about Jean is actually Whedon's Astonishing X-Men which of course follows Morrison's New X-Men. Both great runs!
I'm with you on Disney shelving this movie, but personally I think there's so much more underrated stories to draw from. For example Inferno or Fall of the Mutants (Okay fine, basically I'm just pushing for the Australian Outback X-Men! Those were MY X-Men!)
I think some of the [valid] criticism of gay Iceman was the change in his personality, and the fact that he is portrayed as the gayest thing since gay came to Gaytown. The whole fan theory that Jean Grey manipulates his mind to make him think he is gay is actually more intriguing than the canon surrounding his coming out. I just think the whole "he never went for Jean Grey, therefore, gay" argument is weak. Maybe he doesn't like soulless gingers? Maybe he has other things to do in his life and can't be bothered to be tripping over his own dick chasing women all the time? Idk, just saiyan...
I need to find the graphic novel of that story she just told. Scott and Emma having a psychic affair and Jean finding out. The way CBG19 told that story sounded epic.
I agree with CBG19 so much on X-men. I feel like she may be a soul mate!!😍 she says everything I feel. Stay on their (Fox) head. Keep repping for us mutants! ✊🏾
I don't think anyone wants Scott. He is the worst. Girls want Peter aka Colosus. They may be dating Gambit as written by a pickup artist in the 90's cartoon.
0:15 I totally think they are going to rehash the dark phoenix saga from last stand. I made an edit using the last stand to recreate the trailer on my channel.
Damn, I know, this has nothing to do with this particular video, but so glad you're still posting videos. I cried when you left. I wish that I could watch your dude series, but I feel strange about not reading all the preludes by his son first, and then the final Frank Herbert Dunes. I know it's blasphemy!
I think they should start with the Morlocks and some really messed up Mutants in conjunction with The Guardians bumping into Mojo or someone else. Maybe even Spiderman. People get really freaked about mutants like with the AIDS epidemic. I want them to establish the irrational hatred of every mutant to set a counter to the current superheroes. That was one of my favorite parts of Marvels. So teenage X-Men after one or two movies. More Marvel Netflix/Ant-Man style small scale movie with the whole world getting into a tizzy over their existence. And THEN you have the teenage X-MEN. So 10-20-30 years from now you can have Logan style stories of New X-Men getting handed the torch from the brand new cast.
Onslaught! This must be done in the MCU. There needs to be a huge 10 - 15 year build up to a huge Unslaught movie, where Magneto and Xavier's minds manifest as this super powerful psyonic being. House of M, and Avengers vs X-Men are two obvious stories that can be done before they get to Onslaught. And even though they just did an Apocalypse movie, I still want to see a GOOD Apocalypse movie... there are so many things I wish Fox wouldn't have wasted 15 years trying to do.
I think the MCU has the perfect way to introduce the X-Men without confusing casual moveigoers and without boring X-Men fans that don't want to sit through an introduction that reeks of FOX. The key is Mr. Sinister. Let Mr. Sinister be the first mutant in the MCU. Have him assembling his Marauders. Have him headhunting Gambit. Show him convincing Gambit of his knowledge of the mutant genome. Then, have him promise to Gambit that he can give him the ability to control his powers, but . . . only in return for his services. Then, when Sinister begins giving Gambit treatment, Sinister can reveal himself as a powerful mutant himself. Eventually, when Gambit can't get away, Sinister can explain that he needs Gambit for more than just research, but to wipe out certain undesirable mutants a.k.a. the Morlocks. You can then set up a showdown between the Marauders and the X-Men. Perhaps, Xavier and Sinister can become aware of each other, Sinister can make a comment about how Xavier is the reason why homo sapiens are unaware of the existence of mutants within the MCU, and Sinister needs to kill Xavier in order for the mutants to rightfully rule the planet for what they truly are. You could even foreshadow an eventual clash between Sinister and Apocalypse if Sinister explains that he needs the genes of Jean and Scott to build his perfect weapon. I really feel like the key to every great comic book movie is a great villain and FOX pretty well spoiled us all on Magneto and Apocalypse, but Sinister is still lurking in the shadows. And the guy is just pure evil. Even Apocalypse has some respect for the X-Men as individuals and laments having to destroy them. Sinister just wants to wipe out any mutants that he can't use like research projects. He's the perfect villain to display how and why humans will eventually go to elaborate lengths to control all mutants. And from there, you have all the just reactions and counter reactions from the X-Men, Friends of Humanity, the Sentinel Program, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Genosha, Asteroid M, the Savage Land, and eventually the duplicitous relationship between the X-Men and the Shi'ar Empire. After showing the Morlock Massacre, nothing will seem out of bounds when it comes to trying to stop the proliferation of mutants in the MCU.
I agree with everything you said. I just wish robot and space brain were here, I might have to do some dark magic myself to get the back from the grave.
Hey CBG I’m planning on heading to art school , is it worth the time or should I just teach myself art production by myself online ? Or maybe finish A degree in graphic design ?
Dark Phoenix should be a storyline that goes into stasis... X-Men has a multitude of epic stories they could build a cinematic universe around. I want Marvel X-Men to release solo movies leading to the first X-Men movies, and follow the stories of The Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, Inferno/Australian Outback X-Men, and culminates in Mutant Genesis 2.0/X-cutioners Song. Keep Josh Brolin as Cable and use him as a minor-to-major through line leading up to the epic entanglement of Sinister (introduced and extrapolated upon in Mutant Massacre and Inferno), Apocalypse, Cable, Stryfe, and Jean and Scott while Xavier is on his death bed.
Dear Comic Book Girl 19 & friends, do we think MCU Jean/Phoenix would kill a planet of people? Or is that level of life loss too much Disney? Also do you think the PG13 release of Deadpool 2 is a test run for Disney to see if they can get away with only making PG-13 Deadpool films?
Scott being able to be in relationships with 2 powerful telepaths was brought up as a plot point in one issue where he had to lock away a psychic entity in his mind vault (where he puts thoughts away that the telepaths cant find)
Well, the MCU is developing a series for both Loki and Scarlet Witch (respectively). Maybe they’ll make a Phoenix Saga series with the MCU actors as well!
Wolverine should be introduced in the first MCU Incredible Hulk movie. That movie could be set up as a prequel movie dealing with the early years of Bruce Banner dealing with being the Hulk.
I don't wanna be 60 years old when we finally get a proper X-Men. *sobs*

Damn, at 31, I fear I will be 60 by that time lol.
They need to reincorporate that Xmen theme song back into the movies. I was jamming..
Yeah I would lose it if in the marvel xmen movies, the xmen are getting their ass kicked then they all come together and that theme kicks in

I love Age of Apocalypse
Always great to hear cbg19 xmen rants. Hoping she make more epic history of xmen
Im glad the FOX Nightmare is over. I hope Disney will get Chris Clairmont as consultant when they restart everything
I’ve been waiting for this review/critique. *grabs popcorn and hits like button*
So cool that you mentioned the hospital/flowers scene. Always made an impression on me, as a kid.
Also loving the idea of Jean and Xavier secret affair via the Astral Plane 🔥👌🏾
PS, I was also a fan of the Psylocke / Cyclops sexual tension too 🌡️
The scenes in X-Men Evolution where they would play sports using their powers and sometimes competed to the point where it was like pranking each other were really great. We haven't really seen pointless fun family/team squabbles since Johnny and Ben in the first Fox Fantastic Four.
I could honestly listen to you talking about X-Men for hours on end :D
8 people who watched this go to brian singers pool partys.
LOL
All I want to see is MOJO and MORPH.
CHAMBER and HUSK tho...
This one's for you, Morph!!
you know morph isn't a canon X-Men character , right?
Could listen to her podcast all day. Just really good stuff. 👍
Gosh I freakin love the way you summarize some of these storylines! It’s so entertaining!
Great point on Scott Summers!! Man I love these.
OMFG That intro song from the X-Men animated series was so god damn good!!!!!
I would love it, yes Claremont!!! Especially the storyline where Danvers was used by the Avengers and she stayed with the X-Men.
I love what you said about Scot, he's always so underrated!
I love how CBG19 feels about the X-Men cinematic universe, because it's the same way I feel about the Disney era of Star Wars.
leisureman85 you’re gonna hate the Disney x men then haha. I’ll probably love it only because the people at marvel I think are more in touch and can deal with “sjw “ subject with more ease. But people are gonna think marvel are being sjws just by sticking to the source material.
I don't care about the "sjw angle". I do care about lazy writing, disrespect to the legacy and constant attacks to the critical fans.
leisureman85 I don’t know if I could chalk that up to Disney’s fault as much as it’s one director fuckin up the machine ya know ?
Lucasfilm then? The people that are in charge of Star Wars now only care about making money, not to set up a new good story. I despise TFA, Rogue One was underwhelming, I hate TLJ and I didn't even go to see Solo. People seem to believe that there's nothing more to Star Wars than "Rebellion vs Empire", but it's the opposite, and it's real shame.
leisureman85 I think they didn’t find their Kevin fiege that’s why. Otherwise we’d be getting bane.
Anyone who disses Grant Morrison’s comics should be forced to read only America comics for the rest of their lives.
Honestly, it’s not going to matter. If Marvel Studious paces things right, we wouldn’t see another Dark Phoenix movie for at least 10 years.
Tyson focusin all his energies editing the streaming. I love him
I love this video! You have said everything I was thinking about this new Phoenix movie!
New subscriber here and I'm so glad that I stumbled upon this channel!
I think Mojo would be a great villain especially considering these times! I’d love to see him in the MCU
Comic Book Girl 19 days so many things that are t-shirt worthy.
I love how the Phoenix colours are in your hair 💁🏻♀️
Grew up on the Claremont stuff he wrote the X-Men for 16 years and seeing the Fox-Men just makes me want to cry
The part where Logan and Scott fought in the lawn was not written by Morrison, but Joss Whedon
“Keep their little paws out of the Wolverine cookie jar!” lol. Perfect metaphor.
Simon Kinberg is still talking about what the Gambit movie is going to be like. I love how he thinks the Singerverse is still a thing. It's almost touching. I wish I could be in the room when Kinberg has that rug pulled out from under him.
I identify so much with how you feel about the X-Men. They were so important to me in my childhood.
Thanks to Fox we won't see a Dark Phoneix Saga Storyline in the MCU for over a decade at least.
Gene and Scott marriage was my best collectable comic not my most valuable but def my fav the cover art of the wedding was amazing for the time
When I think of Scott i think of how they treated Steve Roger's in the MCU
Steve Roger's what?
nathanexplosionn mcu respected Steve Rogers and portrayed him well. They will do the same for Scott

moral guy
Boy scout, jock, prep boy, straight laced and, entitled, with a bit of jerk.
Lol girls want Scott but always date the Wolverine type in the real world
Scott is an ALPHA male. Real world he would be a major player!!!
Nice try incel!
Well he is a straight shooter who knows what he wants.
r/niceguys found.
I don't think anyone wants Scott. He is the worst. Girls want Peter aka Colosus. They may be dating Gambit as written by a pickup artist in the 90's cartoon.
I immediately thought of that Dave Chappelle skit the moment you started talking about Jean.
20:06 I believe Scott's proper response to Jean going off like that would have to be..."Optic Blast!!!!"
Has cbg19 done an essentials x-men comics list to read anywhere?
Giant size X-men #1 & #94 to #137 for the phoenix saga. Original x-men is #1-66. Skip #67 to #93 they're all reprints.
I don’t think the Messiah saga gets enough love. To me that’s the best modern era X-men story/saga.
the X-men is the only theme I consistently agree with CbG19
Tall Wolverine and Jean > Scott and Jean 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
That scene you described of Wolverine showing up and fighting Scott was from the Whedon run.
The Logan/ Scott fight in front of Emma Frost was actually written by Joss Whedon. Its Astonishing X-Men issue 1
i loved this! i watched the whole thing and WOw !
I've concluded that the X Men can only flourish on screen if it's a TV show.
Everyone actively help CBG19 become a writer for marvel
