Avoiding meat saved my mother’s life. She developed type 2 diabetes and a had a tumour scare on her liver. She stopped eating red meat and sugar for about 6 months and indeed got healthier and reversed her symptoms, as well as losing weight and having lower blood sugar. She won’t go vegan because she grew up on a farm in Ethiopia and has told me she’s unable to change her habits, I call it conditioning since I lived there too for awhile in my youth and we live in much better conditions now and I’m vegan. The results speak for themselves though, even a small change can make such a big difference and she still avoids meat and dairy as much as possible because of this. I’m still going to encourage her to get healthier though. Y’all should go vegan.
I wrote “tumour scare on kidney” earlier, but corrected it to liver. I got them mixed up because I was talking about it with her today and she told me if the tumour had been on her kidney instead of her liver she would be screwed. She was lucky because the liver is regenerative.

Huge plates of veggies are self-limiting. I don't get the ideas about a plant-based diet being boring. It's the opposite. So many more veggies, beans, grains, nuts and seeds than common meats.
One thing from this segment explains something I noticed going from keto to low-fat pescatarian in April 2023. My LDL-C skyrocketed from 90 to 175 on keto for 18 months. It dropped from 175 to 60 in a couple of months with the new diet. I had been wearing a Garmin smartwatch for over 8 months before the diet change. My resting heart rate was around 48-50 BPM on keto. Very active swim, surf, bike, resistance and walking. When my LDL dropped going plant-based my resting heart rate early AM through coffee time in the morning until I eat late breakfast is now 40 and goes as low as 35-38 frequently in the morning. Stress level from heart rate variability literally goes to 0. The note Dr. Barnard made about sludgy blood with high lipids seems clear here. At least from a fluid dynamics standpoint seems apparent. Lower lipids making the heart work easier so it does not need to beat as much. Or more O2 saturation because of lower concentration of fat. Just curious if this is commonly accepted in the medical space. I'm looking at my watch right now and it says 35 BPM.

Maybe, you were eating the 'fake meat' vegan meals from the freezer section? That would cause weight gain. A plant-based diet means no ultra processed food. That's why it's called 'whole food plant based' diet.

Your body is starving because it's deficient. We're not cows and shouldn't graze all day. I tried every diet including vegan, until my late 50s when as a last resort because the priests of scientism were telling me there's no way to avoid surgeries, I tried strict carnivore. Autoimmune diseases improved immediately, I had a voracious appetite for beef and bacon the first three months but lost weight no matter how much I ate, until my blood pressure normalized, vitamin d and testosterone levels spike and I felt like eating only once a day. Try carnivore for 3 months, thank me later.

Dr. Barnard frequently throws in: This will not be on the test... Why does he not formulate that in a positive manner, namely: This is for extra credit!
Please consider what the building blocks of your food have been. When eating grass fed beef, you can be sure that that beef is made 100% from grass, and that grass was grown from the atmosphere. One never needs to fertilize a cow field. When you are eating vegan crops, the chances are that the building blocks of your food have NOT been carbon from the atmosphere, but carbon from fossil fuels. In every step of growing crops, fossil fuels are relied on heavily. Not just ploughing the fields and harvesting, but feeding and protecting too. Those essential fertilisers and pesticides are made using fossil fuels for raw materials and energy. When we eat vegan crops, especially, we are contributing to global warming on a horrendous scale. You're not just burning fossil fuels extraneously, you are burning them in your body now too, because that is what your food was made from.
A plant based diet (just like any other) won't result in weight loss if you're eating in a caloric surplus. In his study, they specified the women ate low fat WFPB. Pretty easy to see why they didn't gain weight. The myth of plant based diets inherently leading to weight loss really needs to stop or at least come with caveats. Such as HCLF WFPB, not just 'plant based'. You can eat poorly or healthily on a plant based diet (that's your choice) but the best health benefit of a plant based diet is the animals' health imo

When ever you have the heavy hitters like Barnard, Furhman, Essenstyn ect in a video....they are talking WFPBD and also a zero tolerance on junk foods. Just using the term "plant base" on its own leaves a person open to eat all sorts of processed junk that have some plants in it. One of the reasons it's easier to lose weight on a WFPBD is that it's literally impossible to be in a calorie surplus. I can fill my whole stomach with a lot of leaves, veg and a few beans and i'll be lucky to have consumed 300-400 calories and I'm full. If I was to consume that amount of calories in meat, it wouldn't fill 1/5th of my stomach....I'd have to have more food and calories.

Meat and dairy contain many nutrients that are more bioavailable to humans... Plants also have anti nutrients that can actually have a detrimental affect on human health. The anti nutrient oxalate for example, which is found in many plant foods can bind to calcium, preventing it from being absorbed. Other anti nutrients include lectins, phytic acid and gluten.

Ummm, we’re literally burning down rainforests to make room for cattle/feed. Plant based diets kill way less animals, use way less land, and they don’t involve horrendous farms/slaughterhouses. You’re also not a caveman. You’re more hygienic, use a phone, and most likely have access to plant foods. We have choices now, they sure as hell didn’t. There is no perfect solution but a plant based diet still causes the furthest reduction in harm; research is showing that this is true for our own health as well. I don't think I know better, it's just that I see some contradiction here. Thanks for your reply. So 18.7 mcg from fish I am weighing about 73kg that's about 161 lb So Roundabout 0.10mcg per lb so my exposure Is within the safe non-risk limit if I eat 85 grams every day which is a lot I eat about 85 grams of salmon 3 times a week so my total consumption a week is about 255grams that's equal to 9oz a week Now we have to x3 the exposure of mercury that's come at 18.7/161 = 0.116149068322981 x3 = 0.348447204968943 Roundabout 0.35 I have to 7x the safe expound limit of 0.1 x7 = 0.7 mcg per pound per week is safe to limit I only would get 0.35 which is well within the safe limit so at this level heavy metals like mercury are completely harmless to get a negative effect you need to be exposed serval times the upper safe limit so you are wrong about fish contains omega 3 and DHA that helps the brain development and lower heart disease anyways if you are still concerned about this explore it safe to eat a fish a couple of times a week the benefits of fish completely outweigh the negative so stop spending misinformation If you still are stubborn about not eating heavy metal you do know that you're exposed to heavy materials at a far higher amount from second-hand smoke brown rice has arsenic that's doesn't mean that brown rice is unhealthy like fish the benefits outweighs the drawbacks of combining fish with prominently plant-based is optimal for health 👍 nice logic very mon biased video 😂😂
I tried every diet, including plant based, except for the one that big food and big pharma spent millions to keep us off of. I'm on a high cholesterol diet now, no more supplements, pharmaceuticals or cravings and best of all no more more weeds ever again. I only eat foods with cholesterol.
People in the plant based community have the overwhelming majority of science on their side. Logically you are going to want to eat foods that decrease your risk of death and disease. That should be your goal. Animal proteins increase cancer risk by 15-30% depending on study. Plant protein decreases cancer risk by 30%. Google this please. Saturated fats are unequivocally linked to our leading killer, heart disease and its in almost all cholesterol rich food. Heart disease is a silent killer. Are you somehow separating the two? Plant diets decrease the risk of 14 out of 15 main killers. 1 of the 15 is accidents and no diet can prevent those. Animal based diets are routinely linked to increased risk in the majority of lifestyle illnesses, and than its all about damage control and denial by the followers. Lower risks using proven data not beliefs and anecdotes that are just misinformation since the results are not shown in clinical trials or even population studies, ever.

So i asked this guy about carnivore diets and keto etc because I as a science enthusiast cannot find anything other than studies on nutrients that are in animal products and theories and anecdotes. But all studies using people eating animal products, come out just sad and it makes no sense to follow this, and he agreed. So i will ask you where is your data on meat heavy diets improving life. Point me towards mouse studies, population studies or best clinical controlled studies. Its frustrating talking to meat heads who keep acting smart while just denying 99% of science all while saying ridiculous things about how Cholesterol etc does this or that based on theories that never hold up in studies looking at actual human outcomes. P. S. Populations who eat meat heavy diets have the shortest life spans, like the Inuits etc. I guess you can do the same as many other meat geniuses and claim Hong Kong lives longest and eats the most meat. Problem is that the older generation who are living long now, did not eat much meat, and the young generation eating so much meat today, are already starting to show evidence of future problems. If you had a clue about what populations to follow you would know about 'The Blue Zones.
Butter just happens to be the best source of athletic endurance available. It is NOT animal fat that make you sluggish. It's animal protein. Please do some studies and get your facts straight.
@ Maria Rodriguez: You can if you can't lose the eggs straightaway. Even Dr. Furhman allows some animal products and Dean Ornish for beginners....but the goal is to lose them all eventually. But don't overlook eating this way because you can't give up eggs at the moment. Have your eggs and eat this way. If you also can have near zero tolerance on junk food you'll be eating very very well indeed even if you have a few eggs in your diet.
What some people don't realise is where people are coming from. I had a chronic eating addiction to junk food for 40 years that left me having open heart surgery. Just going from that chronic addiction to junk food to a Mediterranean style diet was a miracle in itself. It took another 5 years to wrap my head around a total wholefood plant base diet. A well balanced omnivorous diet with no junk food is the healthiest diet for the vast majority of people. Meat offers better sources of iron, protein, vitamin b12, etc. Also there are studies that suggest that Heme iron (which is only found in meat) should be considered an essential nutrient. Now there are people that do well on a vegan diet but it's definitely not for everyone.
B12 is supplemented to the livestock, so you can take that out. Meat also delivers way too much protein leading to much too high IGF1 in the blood. Iron you can get sufficiently from plant foods, especially when you pair it with a source of vitamin c. Plant iron your body can refuse to uptake if the body has enough, with animal iron (heme iron) this is not the case, it forces it's way into our bodies. Too much iron in our bodies is a problem, we have no way to rid of it (except menstrual bleedings and donating blood). Heme iron is just oxydised iron, why would it be an essential nutrient. Please link that study?
"A well balanced omnivorous diet with no junk food is the healthiest diet for the vast majority of people." That isn't at all clear. The best result have been achieved on well-balanced vegan, vegetarian, and very low animal food diets. Best results for all-you-can-eat weight loss at one year, diabetes reversal, and preventing, stopping, and reversing heart disease have all been achieved on vegan diets. "Meat offers better sources of iron, protein, vitamin b12, etc." Actually, research shows that plant sources of protein are healthier and that replacing meat and eggs with plant foods yields better health outcomes. "Also there are studies that suggest that Heme iron (which is only found in meat) should be considered an essential nutrient." Actually, heme iron causes oxidative stress, non-heme iron is healthier, and plant foods don't have the same amount of toxins that accumulate at high levels in animal fat.

Consider a lard-based diet of twice the individual’s caloric requirement. That would be a “malnourishing” diet. It would also probably not lower cholesterol. Your statement doesn’t seem to work logically. Very odd. Did you mean to say something different?
Malnourished? How come I wasn't malnourished as a long term vegan when I went and got a nutrition test done by the doctor and my results came back perfect and doc said I'm doing great? My health became BETTER as a vegan. Plus I was lean and muscular, lots of energy + super high sex drive and I was doing great mentally with my depression/anxiety which was low or basically non existent and did great in how i reacted to people; could see I was getting all my nutrients on cronometer with taking a b12 and D supplement instead of ruining my health with animal bodies. Btw I tracked my calories and stayed and maintained a healthy weight. If you want to lose weight; you can eat slightly less calories. But me; I ate my recommended amount of calories and maintained a healthy weight which stayed the same weight. I also got sick way less, basically never, and my allergies got way better. I have a full hairline still and in fact have lots of body hair and a full beard. Haven't lost my hair like some people claim vegans do. Bmi is normal and healthy for my age, plus height. Had so much energy in fact I felt better than I did as a teenager and so I rode my bike everyday, hiked, climbed trees and worked out while also meditating and was able to be my best self physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I was also able to quit drugs and alcohol by going vegan because by being vegan and living the lifestyle I did; I felt so great that i no longer needed those nasty things. I learned to be a more compassionate loving person because I respected animals by not eating them, I took care of my own health, loving myself so I can therefore love others more. And respected the environment by reducing my impact on things that destroy it the most which I care about because I want to live in a thriving planet, not a dying one. I ate mostly whole foods but on occasion if I wanted a burger I'd get a vegan burger etc which tastes just as good, still unhealthy but healthier than a dead cow, and way less cruel to the animals and the environment which made me feel good. And I don't do leather or ride animals because it doesn't feel good to the animal to be killed for their skin nor does it feel good to have the weight of someone on them riding them. Plus I don't need animal skin nor do I need to ride them. And btw it's definitely not my fault someone eats a POOR vegan diet, not eating a variety of vegan foods therefore not meeting their nutritional needs, nor is it my fault that they don't eat enough calories and it's definitely DEFINITELY not my fault when they refuse to take accountability for their ignorance of how to appropriately plan, approach and eat/live a HEALTHY vegan diet/lifestyle. And it's no ones fault but their own that they don't do what these vegan doctors and vegan health professionals promote. Yeah and I see so many of my family members with health problems, having surgeries done and having to take pills by the time they're 40 or 50 all linked to many reasons including food choices and guess what? They're definitely not vegan. I'm not increasing my risk for disease and health problems like my family has because they want to eat dead bodies and their secretions. No sir. Veganism all the way!

@mehrnooshsamadi, We don't have to be all or nothing. Why not have meat once or twice per week? While eating whole foods.

If I was to consume that amount of calories in meat, it wouldn't fill 1/5th of my stomach....I'd have to have more food and calories.

just because most vegans are less likely to smoke and drink alcohol and eat less processed food doesn't mean that vegan diets are healthier at all the fact that pesco-vegetarians had the lowest hazard ratio for all-cause mortality in the Adventist Health Study 2 despite pollution? This study on vegans' use of saying vegan being healthier than meat-eater has clearly shown the opposite true with the fish-eater this doesn't mean vegan diets are unhealthy but not optimal as whole food plants based with some fish since this diet provides all the nutrients from plants and B12 DHA and more biologically available vitamins A and D, therefore, non-vegan diets can be slightly healthier than WFPBD
Not all vegans eat this diet vegans do eat refined carbs also added vegetable oils are and mock meats is not correct to say that vegans are automatically healthier because their diet is vegan

The level of mercury in fresh Atlantic salmon is 220 parts per billion mercury so which means
That a 3oz serving is equal to 85 grams of Salmon
220/1000000000 equal
0.00000022 grams of mercury x1000 to milligrams then it's 0.00022 milligrams x1000 to micrograms then it's 0.22 microgram x85 for 3oz serving 18.7 micrograms of mercury
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that 0.1 mcg per kg) of body weight per day is the maximum safe dose of mercury.
So 18.7 mcg from fish
I am weighing about 73kg that's about 161 lb
So
Roundabout 0.10mcg per lb
so my exposure Is within the safe non-risk limit if I eat 85 grams every day which is a lot I eat about 85 grams of salmon 3 times a week so my total consumption a week is about 255grams that's equal to 9oz a week
Now we have to x3 the exposure of mercury that's come at
18.7/161 = 0.116149068322981 x3 = 0.348447204968943
Roundabout 0.35
I have to 7x the safe expound limit of 0.1 x7 = 0.7 mcg per pound per week is safe to limit
I only would get 0.35 which is well within the safe limit so at this level heavy metals like mercury are completely harmless to get a negative effect you need to be exposed serval times the upper safe limit so you are wrong about
fish contains omega 3 and DHA that helps the brain development and lower heart disease anyways if you are still concerned about this explore it safe to eat a fish a couple of times a week the benefits of fish completely outweigh the negative so stop spending misinformation
If you still are stubborn about not eating heavy metal you do know that you're exposed to heavy materials at a far higher amount from second-hand smoke brown rice has arsenic that's doesn't mean that brown rice is unhealthy like fish the benefits outweighs the drawbacks of combining fish with prominently plant-based is optimal for health 👍
nice logic very mon biased video 😂😂

Plant protein decreases cancer risk by 30%. Google this please.
Saturated fats are unequivocally linked to our leading killer, heart disease and its in almost all cholesterol rich food.
Heart disease is a silent killer.
Are you somehow separating the two?
Plant diets decrease the risk of 14 out of 15 main killers. 1 of the 15 is accidents and no diet can prevent those.
Animal based diets are routinely linked to increased risk in the majority of lifestyle illnesses, and than its all about damage control and denial by the followers.

Please. Dr.Bernard. On this plan. Can. I. Eat. Eggs?
No. Eggs are an animal product and WFPB diet excludes all animal products.
So if you getting on a WFPBD straighaway with a few eggs....you will have made a colossal step for your health and more than what I could do at the start of my recovery. Add a bit of exercise onto that and see where it takes you.....I can guarantee it will be to a good place👍

Ok, cite the studies
Very true
