I gave her a book from Dr. McDougall, but she never read it. Last week she made a vegan cake for me which tasted of eggs. After asking she admitted to have added eggs just because she always does it that way. That was very disappointing. I think for many older people it is hard to think outside the box. They have eaten and lived this way all of their life and now someone tells them that it is not the right thing to do. Also after such a long time they are addicted to sugar, fat and even milk products (Casomorphins). These changes probably need some generations. I started listening to Dr. McDougall 11 years ago and changed my whole diet 10 years ago. That was absolutely the smartest move I ever made in my life. 100 pounds, pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and more all disappeared and stayed gone. So here I am almost 70, on no medications, and I enjoy going to the gym most days. I caught Covid19 almost a year ago today. That was 6 weeks before people in my age group could get the jab. I got pretty sick for sure, but I did not need to go to the hospital. I did have a case of long Covid for 2 or 3 months, but I have been fully recovered for months now. I fully credit following John McDougall's food advice for fixing all the aforementioned things and literally my very survival. I could not possibly be more thankful!

    Dr. McDougall has relentlessly worked towards getting people healthy throughout his career. His message is clear, concise, and consistent: starch is the solution to our health and climate crises, and an important means to end animal exploitation. He often talks about east Asian cultures and rice, but it's also great to know the importance of starch in Indian civilizations. In northern India, wheat is such a crucial part of our diet that the way to ask someone if they finished their meal is "roti kha li?" which means "did you eat roti (wholewheat flatbread)"? In the south, rice is the main part of every meal. Traditionally, we only feel like we have truly eaten when we have had our starch. Unfortunately people have over time incorporated far too many rich foods and westernized their diet, leading to a growing health crisis, which, ironically and sadly, some people blame on carbohydrate consumption.

      You mean methane (CH4) emissions, not CO2, and this methane is part of a natural 10 year cycle as it's broken down in the upper atmosphere so it does no long term damage (tune ke CO2). The extraction and burning of fossil fuels from the transportation and energy industries represents around 70+% of total worldwide emissions and is NOT part of any natural cycle, it's NEW carbon pollution and is the major polluting industries. MacDougall is completely wrong, sorry to burst your bubble
      In addition, the inorganic NPK fertiliser used on all commercial plant crops worldwide results in Nitrogen emissions that are NEVER mentioned. What a shame because NO2, and other Nitrous gases formed from these fertilisers are HIGHLY toxic to the atmosphere, up to 250 times more so than CO2

    I agree with his thought that going plant based can save a lot of unnecessary heat released into the atmosphere in the form of climate change but I do wish we could have a version of this video with that part edited out. There are so many people that will automatically discount all his medical advice when he starts talking about Al Gore and climate change. I saw your talk with Chef AJ the other time, very nice. Just a thought... Perhaps you'll tap into quite a different target group (and convince more people to adopt a plant based life style/increase the number of subscribers of your YT channel) if you'd (also) focus on the beneficial health aspects of a vegan lifestyle. More "plant based" and less "vegan", if you understand what I mean (I got a reprimand recently of someone who had a problem with me using the word "vegan" because I was "only" talking about food and about the health benefits of a vegan/plant based way of eating). I appreciate the activism of this channel, but the argument "I went plant based and I got healthy again" perhaps does not get the attention it deserves on this channel. I'd encourage you to invite people like Dr. McDougall, Dr. Barnard, Dr. Greger, Dr. B, Will Bulsiewicz and Chef AJ of course.

Why Dr McDougall should follow chef AJ whom I had to look up because had no idea who he or she is (I am not American although lived there for 3 years). Those promo heavy make up pictures put me off. All of them are doing the great job, are in limelight for tens of years and don’t need advice from us, their followers. • @kfc4007
      @kfc4007 2 года назад

      @@annaal7480 You must have written this in a hurry.... Dr. McDougall is a guest in this episode, so not the one addressed. The suggestion is made to the people behind this channel. The Doctors referred to are not just "whoever appeals to you", they are physicians with a solid professional reputation, who base their "vegan message" on science, contrary to many "whoever appeals to you". Just the fact that Dr. Neal Barnard and his team fought legal battles, that is years ago, to have plant based proteins included in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (the basis for all food programs in the US, such as in schools) makes him one of the heavy motors behind the vegan movement. And despite his great achievements, he still seems down to earth, anwering questions every single week on a RUclips channel, the same health questions, over and over again, of people having switched over or considering switching over to a vegan lifestyle. You may not be aware that "whoever appeals to you" often relies on the science brought forward by exactly these physicians. That's why they merit recurring attention.
      And.. off topic.... if you lived in the USA you should know that American culture kind of dictates women to wear heavy makeup and use tons of creams. It's must be very difficult to shake that ingrained habit to paint your face off. But that's another movement 🙂

    Two significant changes drove evolutionary brain-size increase in hominids: walking upright and eating meat. We didn't evolve eating whole grain bread and potatoes. Brains are energy hogs. For our ancient ancestors, the most efficient source of energy to fuel bigger brains was meat. Like most animals, feeding and fasting was part of the food surplus/scarcity cycle. Eating meat and fat allows surviving longer between meals. We evolved as intermittent fasters. Depending on carbs requires eating all the time. That's why the human body actually functions more efficiently on protein and fat than it does on a high-carb diet. That's why high-carb diets drive insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. You can deceive yourself that high-carb is beneficial for whatever reasons, but it isn't how humans evolved.

      That’s the problem with people wrapped up in certain nutritional dogmas; they love to ridicule others who don’t agree with them. It just so happens I am the one out one hundred people who are actually open minded enough to continue searching for better information and evolving my beliefs. My post above is old news. I’ve come to realize that extremist diets, be the carnivore or keto to vegetarian or vegan are not the ideal human diet. We didn’t evolve as meat eaters, we evolved as omnivores and it depended upon specific, local environments the balance of meat to carbs that were consumed. While plant eaters get higher marks on long term health prospects, some limited amount of meat-think some fish and chicken, limited red-offer a variety and diversity that is an overall positive. Indeed, that is why I don’t like either McDougall and his starch diet or Sisson and his carnivore diet, they lack diversity. I now follow the Mediterranean diet which has the support of far more nutritional scientists and medical professionals than any other fad, outlier diet because of its diversity. And yes, it leans heavily on whole foods and plants. As for the production of food on this planet, it’s riddled with significant problems be it growing of crops, production of meat, or catching fish. But how do you expect to feed six billion people?

      Hi Arth. Yes, white rice needs these tools but brown rice is even healthier. Humans are feasting on grains for at least 100,000 years. Our human ancestors began cooking sometime between 1.8 million and 400,000 years ago. Very few non-human primates have any meat at all in their diets, but of cause humans have always been eating meat, but with some exceptions, it never was the main energy source.

      I agree with you. The grains and rice available today are not the same quality which our ancestors ate. Most are now stripped of their nutrients. Wild meats, offal, fish, clams, roots, berries and nuts was the main diet of our ancestors for 200,000 plus years. The western diet of today is literally plunging us into a life of disease and early death. Health statistics prove this. I'm sorry but I disagree with the contents of this video.

      @@stevethewindsurfer8911 How can human ancestors began cooking 400,000 years ago when first homo sapiens is dated around 300,000 years ago? You need invention of fire to cook starchy products. There's big problem with starchy foods - it needs to be cooked. We don't digest raw starch (so called resistant starch forms) and most of starchy foods are toxic to humans when raw (uncooked). I could accept fruits theory, but this starchivores doesn't make sense.
      You can't have enough wild grains to make diet out of it. You need to produce it in agricultures for it to make sense. Diet of most pre-agricultural humans was based on (persistence) hunting.

      @@stevenhull5025 Yeah, berries, roots and nuts make sense, because it can be eaten raw. Grains doesn't make sense, because it would be hard to collect enough wild grains everday to make it staple of diet and also it nearly every starchy foods requires cooking, because we don't digest raw starches (so called resistant starch) and also most of raw starch sources are toxic for humans (potatoes, many legumes etc). I don't know if starch based diet is really best for humans, but that arguments with appeal to ancestors was kind of stupid.
      Personally, I think optimal diet for humans is something based on fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, lots of fresh greens, mushrooms, some nuts and fatty seeds with good fatty acids profile (omega 3 to omega 6 ratio) and some good quality animal proteins like fishes, seafoods, maybe some white meat, eggs also fermented dairy products like yogurts. Add some herb spices and herb teas.
      I don't think most species are meant to eat seeds like grains or legumes. Seeds are embryonic forms of plants which are meant for reproduction purposes. Plants incorporates many mechanisms that are meant to protect seeds from digestion and deter animals from eating it, messing with their digestive tracts and strictly poisoning them. Grains proteins (glycoproteins) or legumes lectins are very immunoaggressive within digestive tract. It looses their toxic properties and antinutrients after sprouting or/and fermenting, so the best option in my opinion is to make bread from sprouted grains (so called essene bread which btw was traditionally made bread in many cultures). Same method with legumes - either sprout it or ferment it like natto, miso, tempeh. It'll change structure of proteins and neutralize many antinutrients compounds.

    Did John ever say his diet isn't for everyone, and why?? Because ppl with metabolic dysfunctions should definately not eat McDougall, nor diabetics. Its in the literature. My functional MD told me that his diet could be a harbinger for cognitive impairment and muscle loss. Metabolic variations whether u thrive or flounder on this diet is genetically determined. 90% starch and no cholesterol is very damaging for the body. I recommend Four Reasons Why Some People Do Well As Vegans, While Others Dont....and btw: THERE IS NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE THE MACDOUGALL DIET IS EFFECTIVE.
