The way Rainy just completes this duo. I love miles and miss him but rainy’s presence is sooooo appreciated. I hope all four are on every episode when miles is back from daddy leave
Zach, it’s actually good that you have them listed as allergies. There are medications that contain lactose and can affect someone with a dairy allergy. Also, it’s good to have on your record if you’re admitted to the hospital so they don’t feed you something you’re allergic to.
I have to make doctors check the ingredients of any medication they want to give me cause there's been too many times I've been given stuff that has lactose in them :p which is why after surgery I got sent home with liquid codiene instead of the tablets lol
I came here to say the same thing! I have worked in medication development for a decade - lactose is used as a bulking agent because it flows well through the machines. This information is absolutely being used by a pharmacist when they fill your medications.
Lactose is one of the most used ingredients in medication, at least here in Spain so is really good to tell, a lot of times in the pharmacy I had to find alternatives for patients that were lactose intolerant
because no one else has said this in their explanations that I've seen: the potato famine was FIRST OF ALL due to British colonization of Ireland. Because of this, landlords (who were often absent/never visited their holdings) expanded their holdings greatly, leading to a decrease in the average size of land that tenant farmers had to grow their own food, which meant that they grew potatoes for the greatest numbers of calories per amount of space (The Martian also had this as a major plot point!) When a potato blight hit, it killed so many of these tenant farmers because they were relying on those potatoes for food--they had nothing but potatoes and then the blight made it so they didn't have ANY potatoes to eat. (Note: the Great Famine wasn't contained to Ireland, and killed many people outside of the island, but without the political conditions, it wasn't as severe as it was there.)
THIS. Landlord Denis Mahon was killed for a reason. Because landlords were made responsible for the taxes on smaller properties, mass evictions took place that targeted poorer families. There's a huge chunk of records lost because people were just being put onto corpse ships en masse and sent across the Atlantic. I recently read all about this while investigating my family's genealogy.
as someone with a history degree i am SO glad to see this comment. the word 'famine' gives people the false impression that this was solely a natural phenomenon, when in actuality the scale of suffering was caused by british colonial policies
Zach, it’s actually really good that you’re sharing that you smoke and have food allergies. Weed can interact with anesthesia so it’s important to be open with your surgical team. Also, a lot of medications (like biologics) are made from plants/animals, and if you’re allergic to one of those, you may be allergic to the medication. It’s also important to mention food dye allergies and what supplements you take. ❤
Re: embarrassing things in medical charts - in high school I mentioned to my dental hygienist that I played bassoon and she insisted on adding that to my chart. So any time I went to the dentist after that they would ask how the bassoon was going 😅
I work in healthcare and we put that kinda info in your chart to build trust and familiarity ❤️ also, sometimes it is useful medically. if you work/live a sedentary or laborious job/lifestyle, you might be predisposed to certain things. For example, you have pets and allergies to them, that’s important for your doctor to know.

There were SO many factors that lead to the Great Potato Famine. Potatoes were basically the only crop that Irish farmers could keep because they sold the rest of their crops to pay off their land rent, and in addition, the British would not provide aid and made it very difficult for other countries to provide aid.

Worth noting for Zach: a lot of medications have lactose and other dairy products in them! You can ask for specially made versions that a pharmacologist can make for you.
Zach, you gotta boil the diced potatoes for five minutes before you put them in the oven. It's called parboiling and the big restaurants do it. It makes them crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Best way to have the best tasting potato chunks
As a celiac, I do have to let them know I’m allergic to gluten, because fun fact, lots of medications have gluten in it. Although, there are medications with lactose in it, so that is info they need to know. Doctors do need to know if you smoke weed. They also need to know if you do any other recreational drugs. They can have weird interactions with medicines and anesthetics. For example if I take a muscle relaxer then I eat a gummy, I pass out. It’s great for sleeping, but not so much for say exercising.
About the weed thing, I definitely think for the average consumer, 40 mg is a lot. For someone like me whose tolerance is through the roof, takes me like 800-1000 mg in edible form to feel like I’m at the same level. That’s like two THC infused nerd ropes. When I watched Zach’s bachelor dinner my first thought wasn’t “that’s it?” cause I mean it’s all relative.
@@victreebel170 They talk for like 5 minutes in this ep about medical use for cannabis, it’s not at all similar to alcohol. You also build up a tolerance to THC, so if somebody is a daily smoker/edible user for 5+ years, it can absolutely build up that much.
Keith and Zach I believe the confusion about pot comes in with the fact that you two probably consume a healthy normal amount, whereas people like myself who need more than 100mg edibles to feel anything have a full blown addiction and are consuming just about all day every day. Hope this helps LMAO
So Keith's story about the dealer spilling weed all over the floor: I remember I had a dealer who was also a grower, trimmed his own etc. His motto was always "floor weed is free weed" I hope he's well lol
Literally millions died or were forced to emigrated in the famine, also because the English hoarded all other foods when the potato plants were infected with blight
On the edibles discussion: I'm in Canada where it is also legal so store bought edibles are very precisely measured. I seem to have a fairly high tolerance to edible but less tolerance to smoke. I ingest weed every day, but not an obscene amount, so wouldn't consider myself a heavy smoker whatsoever. I was definitely in the group of, "ONLY 40mgs?" 😂 😂 I'll only take a couple puffs of a joint in order not to get too high, but I took about 50mgs of edibles when I went to see Avatar: Way Of Water. 10mgs is like taking an advil for me, I pretty much don't feel it at all.
I'm the exact opposite. I can smoke all day if I wanted to, but edibles lay me out. I pretty much want to fall asleep within an hour of eating an edible. My partner purchases edibles from a coworker. He split a brownie in half and made a milkshake with it. He gave me about a third of that milkshake because I didn't want to risk eating too much, but hello, that milkshake was DELICIOUS. So I'm eating less than a quarter of a weed brownie. I got the dizzies and had to force myself asleep so that I wouldn't feel like I was going to pass out. It felt like the room was full of colored spots and was spinning. It was so annoying. It was such a time waster when all I wanted to do was edit while high the rest of the evening, but looking at screens was out of the question. When I heard 40 mg, I was like "If that were me I would be the worst party guest of all time." I would have probably asked for weed in the dessert, and asked for the rest of the meal without the infusion so I could still hang.
i was dating someone who was allergic to eggs and he had to get a different kind of flu shot because of it! something about the proteins they used in it 🤷🏻♀️ i think it’s a valid thing to have on a medical chart!
Yes, this! A friend of mine works in medical technology. Her office is not a medical facility, and she is more of a trainer and software developer, but because it's medical related, everyone had to get flu shots. If you could not, like she could not due to egg allergies, she had to wear a mask at work during flu season even before covid made mask wearing commonplace in the US.
When I worked at a popular seasonal attraction, it was common for the crew to wind down after with a circle, passing whatever weed manifested. Around 2018, some of the disabled people finally realized if we stopped sharing, we wouldn't get whatever debilitating disease ran through the crew that season. We'd still chill with everyone, but smoking what we brought spared us so much misery.
The Great Famine was caused because the Irish were forced to only eat potatoes strategically by the English. When the fungus spread and killed the potato crops, the Irish no longer had anything left to eat, and they starved (some dying with grass stains on their mouths trying to eat something to survive). The English were startegically trying to breed out the Irish, because they were notoriously pains to England and constantly rebellious. The English had brought in Scots in prior to the famine to buy up the land in Ireland and essentially create a serfdom in Ireland, as they were taking advantage of the inheritance rules that required the land to be divided amongst all the sons. This caused the lots of land to get smaller and smaller in most families, so the Irish felt that this was actually a good deal. They got paid for their land, could live on it, and continue to cultivate crops. However, they ended up being too poor to afford to grow any crops for themselves besides potatoes. The other crops were exported to England. There were multiple famines that caused the potato crops to fail, but the main one people remember killed about 1 million Irish people and caused another 1 million to emigrate to the United States. It's not something we learn about in depth, especially not how England's royalty (at least) was responsible for the Irish dying. The Scotch-Irish emigrated in droves in the 1750s, as a lot of Scottish people were also emigrating at that time. The Irish came about 100 years later, and were largely discriminated against by the Americans. Source: Irish in America History course at University of Pittsburgh
But potatoes were basically the only crops Irish farmers were allowed to keep, so I think that's where Keith got confused. The Irish could only keep potatoes for their families to eat, and then those crops failed with no alternative food.
Incorrect. Famines are manufactured. The British were starving the Irish on purpose by exporting all their crops. It wasn't a natural "oh woopsie we can't eat cuz the crops failed." Situatuon.
I love how stoner definitions change so much by location! What Keith called doob tubes I’ve always called a sploof, and doob tubes came around later when there were the plastic containers for joints. I also use the doob tubes as a pocket ashtray!
I dated a dealer once and I would always pick up the nugs on the floor around his dresser where he weighed before I'd go home lmao he didn't care and I was like I will not just let this go to waste next time you vacuum. Sometimes there'd be giant ones of really good stuff lol
It’s so funny how different weed slang can be. For us a doob tube is just a container that holds joints. We called what you are guys are describing “spliffs” (which I know is also a type of blunt with tobacco and weed mixed). Also I used one freshman year of college and still got arrested so don’t recommend 😂
I, a vegetarian, lived off of the subway pizzas whenever I had to grab a quick bite out for years. It just appealed to me so much more than the veggie delite sandwich. I didn’t get it on a college campus, so who knows which stores had/have it?
To the rainy day thought: the main problem I think people (speaking to my own opinion) have with casting adults as highschoolers is that it's often done as a way to put in sexy plot lines or drama around sex. This is not in an of itself a bad thing as i do agree with Zach's point, the problem comes when they then try to sell those plotlines to ACTUAL highschoolers as their viewing audience. Because there CAN be shows that revolve around teen sexuality without including sex scenes that a) exploit teen actors or b) are definitely for an older audience. See Heartstopper vs Euphoria.
Wasn't there just something in the news that the two actors that played Romeo and Juliet in the1968 version were actually teens and had nudity scenes. They are now suing.
I swear i am not lying. My fiancé needs a 100mg edible to be as high as he hopes to be from it. And we understand the difference between that and a gram of flower. Iv told him before about how you (Zach) said once that 10 mg is what you go for and he called you a lightweight 😂
My bf needs 200mg. Its been theorized that back issues can cause an issue since edibals go through the spine to get u high. My bf works at a despensory and they have a much more technical expliantion but thats the gist.
@@amberpoconuts9968 oh that's actually really good information. When I was a teen, my neighborhood dealer sold 300-500 mg edible candies for a dollar each and I've spent the last few years missing them greatly. Now I pay 25 bucks for a 100mg edible that does nearly nothing for me 😭 and I'm not very heavyweight when it comes to flower, so that makes a lot of sense that it would be related to back problems.
The potato famine got its name because in Ireland a lot of the food is potato based and when the crops failed they were out of a major food source and it left the country basically starving.
I’m allergic to bees and fiber glass and they always ask every time if I have any more allergies to add. They do want to know everything you’re allergic to. Especially if admitted and they need to feed you :)
Moo moo moo, I worked at a dairy farm and one time my boss dipped a cup into the top of the milk tank where the fat sort of migrates before it's mixed so I could try it. It was pretty good and then he said, "You know how whole milk is like 4%? This is probably more like 8 or 9. Some people's stomachs can't handle it." Luckily, I didn't barf everywhere.
Moo moo moo egg fact: I wish Keith had elaborately described the aggression at which an egg can explode. 🤣 Not just popping, but an explosion with egg shrapnel. I didn’t know it and heated up a whole boiled egg at work…poked it with a fork and the next thing I knew, I was covered in egg, it was on the ceiling, it was on the walls, it was on my coworker…🙈 That break room wasn’t the same for a while and neither were my coworker and I. It was terrifying. LOL. Then another coworker acted like it was common knowledge, so I feel very seen and heard from this video. 😌😆
Hi guys! Im a nurse and I just wanted to let you know you should still report your use of weed because it affects dosing for things like pain medications and anesthesia. Love y'all ❤
the egg/dairy allergy is LITERALLY SO RELATABLE!!!! i have an egg allergy, and then they’ll say “oh okay so no mac n cheese or anything” and i’m like NO I LIVE OFF OF DAIRY!!! i also tell people i have celiac disease (which i do) and then they ask about what happens and i’m like…. very bad stomach pain. then they’ll ask how much i can have and i’m like none???? i would go to the hospital if i ate an entire bite!!! which is why i haven’t in 12 years… I JUST HATE BEING CHRONICALLY ILL AND HAVING DIETARY RESTRICTIONS!!! (also the “do you smoke?”…. “weed?” is also relatable)
It’s actually super important to share all those things with your care team! All kinds of allergens hide in medications (especially dairy products!) Even dietary supplements can effect the way your body processes medications. Always be open with your care team even if it has annoying side effects 😊
Keith mentioning the egg exploding in the microwave gave me flashbacks to the very first time I attempted to re-create the Mcdonald's bagel. They definitely explode! 🤣 Also, Zach, sometimes doctors do need to know about THC consumption, especially if you're getting surgery as it can affect the anesthesia!
Story Time: In college, I hooked up with a guy consistently for a few months junior year and he was a dipper. He had an apartment with his buddy where the living room was sunken in. The couches and other furniture were in something like a pit, and the entertainment center and other furniture surrounded it. We decided to host a party where we had a "ball pit", but found out the balls for the pit were expensive, and we didn't want to move out everything that could get broken if we chose to do a ball pit. We blew up a couple hundred balloons instead. I hung out at his place throughout the afternoon and blew up balloons for the balloon pit. This is a task that makes you quite thirsty if you're not aware. I wasn't paying attention and went to take a drink of my beverage and grabbed his spit cup by mistake. I'm happy to report I didn't make it worse by vomiting, but holy sh*t... it is probably the most disgusting thing I've ever put in my mouth. Just don't dip people. That sh*t is disgusting, and it's way more common than one might think for someone to make a terrible mistake with the spit cup. It also heavily leads to mouth and throat cancers. *The more you know.*
Medical professionals do need to know about dairy allergies! I have a severe dairy allergy and proteins within dairy can be found in certain medications and treatments.
Medical student here - PLEASE tell your doctors ALL of your allergies and all about drug use. There are some wacko allergies that impact what medicines we give and it can help point us to a diagnosis or condition, too! I also live in state where weed is not legal, we cannot and won’t report you lol. It is super relevant to how your body works and processes meds, though. Be honest and thorough with your docs! They care and just want to give you the best care possible, which is way easier if we have more info!
NJ listener here to say the arena of the state university (Rutgers) was recently renamed jersey mikes arena! And the new affiliation comes with some lovely free food once in a while
40mg is probably high for an average consumer. does nothing for me though, i need at least 200-400mg to feel anything. the thc doses are higher in oregon, i moved to ca and was surprised how low everything was (and pricier) haha
living in Uruguay I never imagined how different weed culture is, I liteally was just smoking a joint by the supermarket door (at like 5pm) while I waiter for my friend and the guy who was working by the door just told us to throw the smoke that way lol
Adding to the potato famine comments, the potato crop failed due to two different diseases killing the crops.. This wasn't the only reason for the famine and poverty but it was a big one.. Moo moo. LOL
Always good to have your medical records as accurate as possible, even with things like food allergies. Most electronic health records can run checks on medications and anesthesia documentation to see if there are any potential contraindications and flag those for clinicians. So if you can’t have any lactose, as long as a lactose allergy is in your chart, the system can automatically tell your doctor that the med they’re ordering has lactose in it and see if they actually want to proceed or not. But those checks are only as accurate as the data you give it to work with.
Fun fact! When asked your allergies in a medical setting if you are allergic to peanuts do tell them that! Apparently some medications can cause reactions if you have a peanut allergy.
Can confirm. Have been making lab-tested edibles for dispensaries in CA and now in NJ for over 12 years. Yes, 5 mg and even 40 mg is almost nothing for a lot of us. And I suspect a lot of your subscribers (myself included) are heavy stoners
8:40 As someone who grew up on a dairy farm, I can tell you the fat content in milk depends on the breed of cow. But I don’t know the average percentage off hand.

I LOVE WHEN YOU GUYS TALK ABOUT WEED. LOVE YALL
As someone who also went to college in Boston, hearing you reminisce about Boston in this episode was wonderful ❤

The potato famine was caused by having no potatoes. The crops failed.
Oh my God. A simple Google search and maybe y'all will figure it out 🤦♀️
None of you remembered your moo moo moos
All the crops died 😿
From a Bostonian, love to hear the Boston talk from Zach and Rainie!
Can’t wait to see Keith eat tires and some patio furniture
milk fact! 100% milk fat would be clarified butter, or ghee!
Also half and half is no less than 10.8% milk fat but no more than 18% milk fat!
Love a good TryPod Weed episode! 🤘🏻🥬💨🫶🏻
I love how stoner definitions change so much by location! What Keith called doob tubes I’ve always called a sploof, and doob tubes came around later when there were the plastic containers for joints. I also use the doob tubes as a pocket ashtray!
Googling milk facts and introducing it as “Moo Moo Moo milk fact coming in…” solid dad vibes, Keith.
I’ve been smoking for like 8(?) years but am a small human and I usually take about 75 mg they’re very much lightweights and it’s adorable
My bf needs 200mg. Its been theorized that back issues can cause an issue since edibals go through the spine to get u high. My bf works at a despensory and they have a much more technical expliantion but thats the gist.
Big same
I can consume 500mg and feel NOTHING. I’ve never gotten high off of an edible a single time in my life
@@amberpoconuts9968 oh that's actually really good information.
Especially if admitted and they need to feed you :)
it seemed like rainie & keith were having a laugh battle at 23:14 😂
“Maybe our audience just had these hard core stoners” yeah 😂
Moo moo moo, I worked at a dairy farm and one time my boss dipped a cup into the top of the milk tank where the fat sort of migrates before it's mixed so I could try it. It was pretty good and then he said, "You know how whole milk is like 4%? This is probably more like 8 or 9. Some people's stomachs can't handle it." Luckily, I didn't barf everywhere.
PLEASE more weed talk!!
Love y'all ❤
I was taking a dab as Keith asked Raine about dabs😂😂😂
the egg/dairy allergy is LITERALLY SO RELATABLE!!!! i have an egg allergy, and then they’ll say “oh okay so no mac n cheese or anything” and i’m like NO I LIVE OFF OF DAIRY!!! i also tell people i have celiac disease (which i do) and then they ask about what happens and i’m like…. very bad stomach pain. then they’ll ask how much i can have and i’m like none???? i would go to the hospital if i ate an entire bite!!! which is why i haven’t in 12 years… I JUST HATE BEING CHRONICALLY ILL AND HAVING DIETARY RESTRICTIONS!!! (also the “do you smoke?”…. “weed?” is also relatable)
This is the greatest podcast. I love when they talk about weed 😂
It’s actually super important to share all those things with your care team! All kinds of allergens hide in medications (especially dairy products!) Even dietary supplements can effect the way your body processes medications. Always be open with your care team even if it has annoying side effects 😊
Its not a miscommunication, we aren’t lying, its a build up of tolerance.
Keith mentioning the egg exploding in the microwave gave me flashbacks to the very first time I attempted to re-create the Mcdonald's bagel. They definitely explode! 🤣
Also, Zach, sometimes doctors do need to know about THC consumption, especially if you're getting surgery as it can affect the anesthesia!
Hearing Keith say "Nori is good" really made my day..ya know what? I AM GOOD
Years ago my dad accidentally left a potato baking in the oven over the weekend, and it just turned into a rock. He still has it for some reason🤔
this was such a delightful episode lol love the wild untreated ADHD energy bouncing around the room
as someone who just moved to california and is too embarrassed to ask ppl abt weed, this is actually v helpful lmao
Yes there is inflation but studies show that the rising cost of food is mostly arbitrary. Grocery stores and franchises are reporting record profits.
“I think it’s fine for adults to play High Schoolers”
Somewhere, Ben Platt is smiling
When Rainie said "the Gatorade thing," I thought she was going to describe a gravity bong.
Medical professionals do need to know about dairy allergies! I have a severe dairy allergy and proteins within dairy can be found in certain medications and treatments.
Regarding the at home Egg McMuffins: a greased wide mouth or regular canning ring makes a good mold for the eggs
Fully thought when Keith was mentioning Gatorade bottles he was going to bring up gravity b0ngs
I never mentioned my aspertame allergy, and then when I got an ulcer they gave me meds that were COATED in aspertame. SO TELL THEM EVERYTHING.
Rainie's adorable "have a good ass week!" At the end hahaha
I got a gummy sample once and ate it all it was 100mg and i swear i died and came back to life 2 days later. 😂😂😂
They care and just want to give you the best care possible, which is way easier if we have more info!
keith’s ETM descent into safiya nygaard
LOVE Zach's ghost files water bottle!!!
“Shout out to the red line!” Got me way too amped
NJ listener here to say the arena of the state university (Rutgers) was recently renamed jersey mikes arena! And the new affiliation comes with some lovely free food once in a while
ZACH - I miss cheap weed too... "I''ll just have some low-level, late 80's dirt weed. The kind you separate the seeds on a frisbee."
Moo moo. LOL
My college subway had pizza too! I was so sad when they discontinued it :(
i live in oregon and smoke/dab everyday. 100 mg is my happy spot, i could take more too. it really just depends on your tolerance
Whole milk is 3.25% milkfat
Fun fact! When asked your allergies in a medical setting if you are allergic to peanuts do tell them that! Apparently some medications can cause reactions if you have a peanut allergy.
(According to my pharmacist, even if I’m wrong better save then sorry)
Lol I just had the realization that if Keith and Zach are stoners then I’m a whole addict 🫣
Keith pls I hope you loved the Ikea Swedish meatballs they are the highlight of my Ikea trips
I've never heard a sploof called a doob tube. But the Gatorade bottle is way better than the toilet paper roll I used.
It is actually important to mention your dairy allergy. Lactic acid is in a lot of medications
keith eats costco and ikea OMGGGG y'all i'm legit so excited the way the respective combinations of costco muffins + a cheap hotdog and a random soft serve at ikea to get me and my little bro quiet while furniture shopping live rent free in my nostalgia brain 🤩can't wait for keith to review them!
Keith, I worked in Walmart subways in the midwest and they also had circle pizzas but we also made flatbread pizzas too they were so good
