    A 5 lane road with a 25 mph speed limit? Traffic engineering at its finest. If you want to slow traffic down, traffic calming measures such as raised intersections, a reduction in the number and size of lanes, and speed bumps works best. The City is simply trying to make money off a poor design.

    You would think that considering they're saying people are going more than 10 mph over the posted speed, that there actually would be a posted speed, hint: there isn't. Harrison is 5 lanes 1 way, the closest thing you would have to slow down a tiny little yellow sign on the right side that says "school", so if you're on the left you're not seeing it. The school itself is set back quite a bit from the sidewalk next to a 2 story building, so you won't see the school until you are right on top of it. And the closest place with a "posted speed" is at the start of 3rd street way back.

    • @heyaisdabomb
      @heyaisdabomb 13 дней назад +2

      The worst part no one is talking about is this law requires the speed limits to be lowered by 5 mph anyplace a camera is put, so that will now become a 20mph... This whole "oh, well you have to be going 10 over. Well mark it down so you can mark it up, it's like a discount store that claims an item is worth $50, but we are discounting it to only $25.. While they never intended to sell it for more than $25. This is how most discounts work in buisness, and now they are applying this concept to speed cameras, and most aren't smart enough to get it.

I believe they try something like this in NYC or Atlanta and the people (casuals, cops, ambulances, firefighters, etc.) who embrace the cameras there were the same people complaining about the auto ticketing. If you embrace it, don't be surprise if it comes back to bite you.

    I can understand why people complain about paying the money and I agree to an extent, but this idea is much better than other things that get passed in this city and it could actually bear some fruit. I say it is worth it if it offers us a way to get these dangerous drivers to slow down (or get them off the road altogether). SF would be a much safer place if people didn’t drive so recklessly. And on that note, I say if you can’t pay the fine, don’t do the crime!

    I said before that cameras address the symptoms but not the underlying problem. You want safe streets you will need to redesign the street so it feels better to drive slower. Look at Hoboken, New Jersey. Meanwhile New York thinks they can ticket the problem away to solve it, but no. These speed cameras are only designed so camera companies can make more money. A camera that does not actually reduce speeding is going to be more politically popular.

    For all the "why don't they put effort into stopping crime or helping the homeless." When did speeding become not a crime? It's not a punishment if you are not breaking the law. This is money fighting crime. Hit and run deaths are a problem in this area, another crime. Which could honestly impact homeless populations more, considering they are the ones out and about on roadways more often than not.
    Just go the speed limit.

    • @heyaisdabomb
      @heyaisdabomb 13 дней назад +2

      The problem is speed limits used to be based on the 80 percentile rule, but they are now artificially slow. Fulton used to be a 40 mph a few years ago, it's now a 30 mph and under this new law, they will lower the speed limit to 25 mph. That's a 4 lane highway at 25 mph, it's absurdly slow and unnatural.

    • @Rachel4954
      @Rachel4954 13 дней назад +2

      It depends on a lot more than just how big the road is that determines speed. I'm not completely disagreeing with you because I know there are roads that need to have the speed limit updated. However, the speed limit, no matter what, is still the law, be it unfair or not. There are a lot of drivers out there who need to be ticketed for speeding. And in high foot traffic areas, there should definitely be these; it's 10 miles over and you get a ticket, it's not that outrageous. Especially with the number of lives lost to hit and runs, four this year alone in San Francisco.

    • @jeffryan7262
