- The rules basically say that if you are coming into the airport, you have to have a legitimate reason to be there. You can’t loiter or panhandle or find a place to sleep.

What, you can't be there to steal stuff?? That IS my legitimate business.
All airports should do the same.
Absolutely they should. 👍 Airports are for commerce and travel business *only,* not hotel accommodations.
Exactly. Armed guards at every entrance. Lethal force authorized even for jaywalking.
They should have never allowed it in the first place.
Good that they are doing this.
Exactly
Why are there SO many homeless? Why is the homeless population suddenly ballooning? Thats what the city should now focus on before its too late
Atlanta actually has some of the lowest rates of homelessness in the country. The city is doing a better job that cities in the west coast.
@@ashleybrown6299so? The city can still do better
As long as Americans treat everything as a personal failing that needs to be punished, the crumbling of this society will continue to accelerate.
Laziness. No one wants to work in Atlanta
Drugs and alcohol.
Homeless living at the airport? Wild! New rules are necessary....
Good to know. I was approached by two panhandlers a few weeks ago when I was waiting for my luggage. The individuals were definitely not flying or waiting for somebody to arrive.
So they can just grab luggage at will……🥹
Well, if high ranking members of the Brandon administration can do it, why can't the "unhoused"?
As a kid in the 1970s growing up in NYC, there were what was called SROs in many neighborhoods - cheap residence hotels where you could live in a room and use shared bathroom facilities. They were kind of seedy places with sketchy residents but it must have beat living in a tent! Many thousands of SRO units disappeared starting in the 1960s. There are a lot of complicated issues contributing to homelessness but one big one is the lack of really cheap places to live anymore for those who simply cannot afford more.
You are absolutely correct. I don't understand why boarding houses aren't common these days. Short term rental units with shared bathrooms would solve so many problems.
It's certainly possible to find people who sublet bedrooms, but it's often illegal and among people of the same immigrant background. Perhaps there is too much liability in renting short term to unstable people? Perhaps we need to change our laws so that there isn't such a heavy burden and risk for the property owner.
In my rural town there used to be a campground. It was seedy and it had many trailers and campers unsuitable for year-round living, even some in tents. But it was all that some people could afford, and the owners worked to maintain the toilet and shower facilities and to make it a safe place. But new town and state regulations made it illegal and it had to close. Where could all those people go?
I remember hearing about the Martinique hotel (SRO) in midtown Manhattan. If it is still standing, it could be refurbished back to its original status as a regular tourist hotel and could charge $500 plus per night.
1:45 For this clueless guy, here’s the “big deal”: public spaces are meant for specific purposes, like air travel. They’re not made to be shelters or dormitories for shiftless, drugged-out street squatters, or to support any activity other than air travel. Not there for air travel? Move on.
🫡
Not every homeless person is on drugs and/or alcohol. Not every homeless person is a criminal.
@@JollyMe22The majority are.
Exactly. Send them to his house since it's no big deal.
As far as I was aware, "to steal stuff" was never a legitimate reason to be somewhere.
I was there in January and it was scary. I was scared.
Avoid Delta, they make everyone change planes in Atlanta and TSA will steal from you there.
1:42 I agree with him, but the fact that there have been complaints mean they are causing an actual problem. It'd be a different issue if the airport just didn't like the sight of homeless people.
Then why don't you help them by giving them a room in your home . The airport is no place for the homeless .
its not a shelter . if im in a rush for a plane I don't want to be inconvenienced by people loitering and fearing for my safety .
Finally not allowing homeless in public places
its a frigging airport not a homeless shelter . they can go sleep elsewhere .
Wow heartless. We're lucky we don't have snow like NY where people can FREEZE TO DEATH!!!
@@hellobot67 This is an AIRPORT - not homeless shelter.
@@hellobot67 do me a favor. goto washington dc and spend sometime in union station. once you see the aggressive homeless people that will corner you in the bathroom and borderline threaten you for money , steal your stuff from next to you when your not looking come back and make that same comment. its not heartless its not a shelter
@@hellobot67They’re not on the streets because they’re poor. They’re on the streets because they don’t want to follow rules or obey laws. Many are drug addicts who don’t want help. As a result, they’re poor. Let them be out in the elements.
About time they are focusing on the homeless people and not letting them stay at the airport.
It’s not just the homeless
So it is "Unhoused population" now.
Ain’t that some BS😮
Amazing, isn't it? I thought they were going to call them the "home free."
Yep. They have to keep swapping out the euphemisms or people might catch on.
And presto, it's completely different! 😂
How about "Free Range Hedonists" next?
“You can’t be there to steal stuff….” WOw what a great quote
We ALL are one DISASTER Away from being HOMELESS, but I understand security issues..
What security issues? This is the point outside of security, and there are plenty of police/bystanders.
Not ALL of us are one disaster away from being homeless. Some of us have worked hard, planned ahead, spent our money wisely and saved where we can, we’ve also addressed any medical (physical or mental) needs as best we could. I understand it’s tough for some and even tougher for others but many of these people have put themselves in these situations.
That’s not why these people are on the streets. It’s the result of a decades-long, burgeoning substance abuse issue that’s been growing underneath our noses. Most of these people do not want real solutions to their problem. What they want are free handouts so they can sustain life while they destroy their life on their own terms, and take society down with them. That is what chronic homelessness is all about.
@@spatulaman2753youd be shocked
The majority of homeless are drug addicts.
“Unhoused”, are you friggin kidding me, their homeless!
They use the distinction of “unhoused” because there are tens of thousands of people who are technically homeless but they’re couch surfing or living inside of an actual physical structure. It’s not that hard to understand what they’re saying and why they’re using specific language.
Everyone has had enough of them re-defining everything they do to make it sound better….. They’re too stupid to do the jobs they were elected or hired to do because it’s not that damn hard to be HONEST if you’re going to work for the people instead of ripping them off! If they aren’t homeless, they don’t come sleep on other peoples property or public property! They aren’t considered the public because they add absolutely NOTHING to Society! Nothing!
I knew what type of news report this would be when the new anchor said the "unhoused."
I thought they were referring to Illegal Aliens😂
@@user-oc8kz1zj4mthere’s no such thing as ‘illegal aliens’. The politically correct, woke term is ‘undocumented immigrants’. Like it’s just a paperwork issue, filling out a few forms, etc. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to offend anyone, would you?
@@zyglo9826 God forbid 🤣
You say, “The World’s Busiest Airport” like it is something to be proud of. It’s not. The City of Atlanta should have enacted these restrictions years ago. Typical of Atlanta, too little, too late.
Not an Atlanta specific problem, every major airport in the country has the same issues. There are legal issues here because of federal and state funding that kinda makes these places public and not private locations. It’s tricky.
Honestly it's not Atlanta. Its a Clayton County problem. Most homeless people in Clayco gravitate towards the airport anyway.
Yep 👍🏽😮 Really 😮
Drugs.
That title is accurate, surprisingly ! It’s statistically by operations, planes landing - taking off etc
Homeless people do not steal from your luggage, TSA does that. I stopped flying Delta because they made everyone change planes in Atlanta and you had to go through TSA to get to the next gate, and they always stole from me at the TSA checkpoint.
Here in Seattle we have huge groups of people stealing baggage right off the baggage claim... it's mere steps to the exit. Yeah, airport employees, too... but lots of either homeless folks and/or criminal orgs doing a lot of it.
You probably came from an international flight and somehow left the airport, you don’t have to reclear security at any terminal at ATL…
Finally I can be in baggage claim without being accosted by aggressive panhandlers
That is good they are taking these measures
Keith is getting his money from the city.
Unhoused? Say Homeless!
close the borders...
Homeless are of all races and of families that have been here for generations. Closing boarders does not solve this
Good!!!
This is insane that people hang out at the airport…
Just move the TSA SECURITY to the counters so no one can even get past the check in without a valid ticket. No one can be inside the airport who has no intent to depart. Arrivals wait outside.
Portland airport is like that - all you can access if you aren’t flying is check in and baggage claim. No stores or restaurants except maybe one or two coffee stands.
She's a gatekeeper. They told her to say unhoused. I would've nodded my head and when I went live I would've said HOMELESS😂
Every airport is the busiest airport. LAX, Dallas, JFK, Chicago,ATL
_True, but the busiest is Hartsfield Jackson INT Airport. They serve more people than any Airport in the US with 8.5 billion & reclaimed its title earlier this year._
@@DoctorRickSanchez Eh, not really. The busiest airport title has several different parameters, which is why it can be claimed by different airports. ORD for example has far more average aircraft movements per hour / day than others. The coastal airports have far more large aircraft operations. Etc, etc.
@@BlownMacTruck _I said 8.5 billion "served"... Chicago O'Hare is one of the biggest airports in the US not "busiest".._
@@DoctorRickSanchezPassenger volume is again, only one parameter and also classified differently based on transit or departures and arrivals. I know this is hard for you to comprehend but try and use some basic critical thinking skills.
104.6 million passengers in 2023. Nowhere near serving the equivalent of the entire population of the planet plus a bit.
Now do the same in Seattle
Bout to grab my pillow and blanket, I’ll be right there!
In-house! HOMELESS. Say it out loud. Citizens are being restricted from airport?

About time!
Problem is most of the homeless aren’t harmless and aren’t leaving people alone. They take up space that we travelers need or want. I travel through Atlanta all the time, and I have hated going there because of that.
The crisp, morning air, the feel of the bindle on my shoulder, not a care in the world... it's the hobo life for me.
Don’t forget about the late night rat bite 😂
WOW! Lived in Atlanta 50 yrs. before retirement and a move to the coast.
The problem with homelessness is so sad. But I do not want them hanging out at the airport.
Makes the city look bad. You don’t run into this at the airport in Paris.
Cities need to develop Tiny house communities that other cities have. The mentally ill, we have no place to put them. Simply heart wrenching.
Thank God! Limiting access keeps passengers safe.
Once the rent moratoriums lifted, a lot of landlords showed people the door. Nationwide!
10 million illegal immigrants demanding housing doesn't help the situation either.
My only question is what happens when there’s a bunch of cancelled flights and people get stranded at the airport?
Bums are not unhoused!
'to steal stuff'...good call.
I just got back from camping out in a Texas state park. I had fun but I also had electricity, water, and showers that I paid a small fee for.
Our airports are like train stations now
People really have to see for themselves so we could bring this law and order back
Coincidentally, smart, decent people limit their own access to Atlanta.
I like the Nike's at 1:39 !!!!
They need to clean that mf up I keep getting the flu from that airport
I see the “film guys” are still allowed.
Good, such a no brainer
Homeless but have money for drugs. Zero sympathy. They know drugs mess your life up, yet figure they are the exception to the rule. Guess what. They aren’t! Panhandler by my house. Everyday. Easily making 500 a day. Been here now 2 years. Says he can’t find a job. BS. Makes 500 tax free. Can’t pick up his trash either.
And they have/had money for tattoos and cigarettes.
Panhandler making 500 a day?!? That's more than twice what I make at work in a day! If that's truly how much they make then working a regular job will be a pay cut.
Worst Airport is Atlanta Airport! I went there last year to visit my sister who has cancer & it was a nightmare! Their signage is awful & disorganized, it chaotic when you travel there & leave! The direction seems signage to return you rental car is horrible, not to mention how dangerous the drivers are there! Had to eventually put my hazards on to force ignorant drivers to go around me while trying to follow my gps. 🙄 Got there THREE hours in advance & used the handicapped wheelchair service , since I used a cane. I barely made it to the gate 20 minutes before boarding the plane because there were hundreds of people also using the wheelchair service ! 🤦🏽♀️ Never again!! I rather pay more and fly directly to Columbus , GA airport that is in my sisters town! It’s not worth it to fly to Atlanta & drive 50 plus miles to see my sister! Smh 🤦🏽♀️
Needs to come to the NYC Airports, and Philadelphia.
The big deal is Janitors have to clean up after homeless for nothing
Wait until it starts getting hot outside, then it will be be crazy.
Good to hear. Makes sense for *many* reasons - all airports should follow suit. We do need to take care of the homeless - but not at the airport (or bus stations, or public parks, or city sidewalks).
Yes…and stop serving alcohol at airports.
Airports are not homeless shelters.
That man Keith is an difficult and somewhat evil man. I wasn’t even homeless and he harassed me and traumatized me from Atlanta airport. He gave me a hard time and had me shipped out with the homeless in the middle of nowhere because of my flight being delayed. He doesn’t even know how to do his job right and ask the right questions to help people.
Good! Ny did this several yrs ago
Criminalizing the homeless?!
World’s busiest airport …. I think not
It’s bad enough you have to smell the feet of fellow passengers at the TSA screening… let alone the untreated diabetic foot ulcers and unbathed homeless while trying to eat your Chick-Fil-A before a flight…. 🤮
👃🏻🦶🏻😹
They can't get to the gates without getting through tsa and they can't get through tsa without a ticket. 😂😂😂😂but that's funny
🤣🤣
Ok I don’t want a smelly homeless person around when I’m eating either, but jeez have some compassion! Most of these people aren’t homeless by choice - and many normal Americans are one missing paycheck or medical disaster away from the same thing happening to them.
You are not wrong. Once I saw a homeless person walk into the restaurant that I was eating at and boy did I not know that he ended up sitting at the table next to me. I just couldn't eat because the smell whiffed at me. I had to report him because A, I'm a paying customer trying to enjoy my meal and B, I can't eat if I have the smell coming at me. And this was not his first time since the owners told me that he was banned from the establishment for panhandling and bothering the other customers. If he wanted something to eat, I don't mind getting him something. Most importantly do not walk into an establishment and sneak past the host stand to seat yourself or try to invite yourself to someone's table.
I agree with them limiting access to the airport to those with legitimate reasons. But I suppose the concern is what do you define as legitimate? Is it strictly a ticketed passenger catching a departing flight or arriving from a departing flight? What about those of us who go to the airport to buy our flight tickets or deal with reservation issues which we couldn't deal with over the phone? What about those of us picking up a family member or wishing a family member who may be leaving us for sometime a farewell?
We need to have affordable housing.
And that’s going to get people off drugs and on treatment for their mental illnesses how? Most homeless people live outside cause they want to
Many of those “ homeless” are now part of the ten million Biden let in. You want to build homes for them as well
Housing won't fix their drug/alcohol addiction.
Not everyone who is homeless is on drugs,or abuse alcohol.some just have financial issues.
@@johnwhatever8000Ignorant comment.
Airports are for travelers not a place to sleep
This is an issue at airports nationwide now. Homelessness is getting out of control nowadays. By the summer of 2025, it will have exploded.
Ivey, true. And in 2030 the UN agenda plan includes homelessness for sustainable development.
@@sandilobianco6734 Really?
How did they say it works???
Last time I was there, felt like I had arrived in Africa.
Why are we not surprised?
I remember my mother taking my brother and I there on a home school field trip. I’m sure a larger class would have no problem arranging it these days but t would be hard to convince them our family of three had a legitimate reason.
I’m doubtful that a well dressed family would be prevented from touring the airport. In theory the exclusion list will be enforced, in practice I doubt that would actually happen as they just want to keep the homeless out not normal folks.
The song and dance is to protect against civil suits from homeless advocates.
It's sad people seek shelter at the airport, I've only ever seen that in a Tom Hanks movie. Perhaps the city should look into opening more shelters
😭😭😭
A few have been arrested for stealing passengers luggage, a couple of them were videoed wearing a gentleman clothes!
Wow. Even SFO and OAK do a better job at keeping the homeless away. Surely there are other places in Atlanta where the homeless can rest.
Portland is one of the national punching bags for the homeless issue, but I’ve never seen homeless people at the airport there, which I fly in and out of several times every year. What’s different? They’ve got public transit directly to the terminal from downtown, so it’s not access.
I don’t think the city can do this if they receive federal funds it’s not private but a public place
They can ban people from schools.
Oh, your really making JB very upset
America should have done that a long time ago, in our country airports are only allowing departing ticketed passengers to enter, and all arriving passengers meeting their ride like family or friends outside the airport. Airport should strictly for departing and arriving passengers only.
Airports should open to everyone before and after security. With that said people that are camping in the airport need to be removed, fined, and incarcerated unless they were stranded by the airlines or waiting for a flight.
Atlanta Greyhound is even worse
I don’t see that because if people with a disability or no on a wheelchair, that is a big deal no, it’s not
Pretty sure that is the airport with its own zipcode. You can spend hour driving the permiter in shuttle its a damn sightseeing tour. Got completley lost inside w the trams, missed flights slept on floor waiting for a new flight.
How about just fix the airport first
The ordinance is to vague and allow anyone to expelled from a public facility with any reason. Those who agree with it will only disagree when they are expelled from the airport. Legitimate business can be anything such as auditing where your tax dollar are being wasted and how your right as this is being violated by a ordinance. People should know that just because you don't like something doesn't mean its harrassment/uncomfortable. Yes homeless people sleeping at the airport is an issue and most airports don't allow that to happen anyhow.
That Ordinance could open up a can of litigation for the airport
Instead of dealing seriously with the issues of homelessness in the US, authorities, corporations etc are just doing what they can to make live even more difficult for these poor people. Not everyone is a criminal, drug addict or even illegal immigrant. A lot of people are ordinary people whose life circumstances just took a turn for the worse. A lot of these people wouldn’t be homeless either if the wealthiest, most powerful country in the world bothered to care for its citizens in much the same way most European countries do.
There are hundreds of homeless living in LAX. Be more like California.
They aren’t “unhoused.” They homeless!!!
Just curious why you and so many others nitpick unhoused vs homeless. Both mean the same thing.
charlesloomis, " They're homeless. "
Well, what is your state doing for the hounless from what I can tell nothing? Other than the population of homeless people in Georgia is ridiculously high. I mean, it's almost as bad as Arizona. These people didn't originally be homeless. They became homeless from misfortune. Whether I'm losing a job during the pandemic, there just needs to be a place where they can lay their head until they can get back on their feet or if they have mental issues, they should be able to go to a mental hospital.
Most came to Georgia that way. Others prefer that lifestyle and were enabled by Federal policies. Hard to blame the state for either. I myself was left homeless after an EF4 tornado when Biden refused to declare the Federal disaster for individual aid even though surrounding states got theirs for EF0-EF3 tornados. Says it was because Newnan, GA has more money than the others hit by the same outbreak but fat lot of good that did me with my retail job and recently paid off Corolla (original owner) left crushed under a tree. Thankfully, a friend gave me a 25 year old van that’s barely running and the landlord invited me back once the house was repaired two years later (months ago). Had to stay in my rented workshop with no overhead lights, insulation, shower, or stove for two years.
Blame the Federal Government.
Sorry, my tax dollars are being used to house illegal immigrants. The democrats and cyst and keep more coming every day.

Yet they can't pass laws to help the homeless and help prevent homelessness unless it's about a veteran 🙄

Homeless veterans have it hard too.

JFK needs to do this. There’s so many homeless in the airport.
I was once there at 1am in the morning, waiting to check in at 4 (had to get a ride from far away). Me, a young, vulnerable female, alone. There were homeless people there with me. They didn't bother me, I didn't bother them. It doesn't matter that I paid over a thousand dollars for my international flight, we're all human and deserve shelter. Kicking out homeless people isn't going to solve the problem. It's just more reactionaries reacting poorly and making more problems. Housing first initiatives, which are demonstrably successful in better countries, are the way to fix this issue without anti-homeless violence.
I agree with what you said, but please stop with the victim mentality

This city is an embarrassment to Georgia. The airport is for travel exclusively. NO EXCEPTIONS.

I’m of two minds on this. It’s good for security that they’re stopping people who have no legitimate reason to be in the airport. But on the other hand, this is one more step toward a police state, where anywhere and anytime you might be stopped and asked for ID and questioned as to where you’re going, why you’re there, etc.
This is private property.
It’s pretty obvious if someone is camping in the airport. Airports are public property. If someone is camping and not waiting for a flight they should leave or get arrested.
People without a home are homeless. No need to tiptoe around thar word. It’s factual. Just like « illegal alien ».
