i really like how during the incredible's texting test how while typing a word it is highlighted in green and shows all the word options, but when you make a mistake it highlights in orange. don't know if anyone saw that but it stood out to me.
In the settings for the incredible, you can choose whether or not you want the phone to load the mobile version of a website (when available) or the full version of the website.
@jexner325 I can't answer all of you questions but the A4 processor in the iphone 4 is a 1 gig processor down clocked to 833 MHz. Apple down clocks all iphone processors for more stable running. The MP on the phones doesn't matter, but when you upload the pictures to a computer the HI-Res 8MP images will look alot crisper with more detail, so that depends on how you view your pictures.
Regardless of whether I agree or disagree with with all of your conclusions I appreciate the in depth look that your giving on the Incredible. You're definitely offering a clearer picture of the phone than anyone else has offered and I thank you for that.
@pyro74boy I've seen the LG Prada. The iPhone has a multi-touch screen, the Prada doesn't. The iPhone has a glass display, the Prada has a plastic display. The Prada is made of plastic, the first iPhone was made of aluminum. Plus the software on these two devices were very different.
I have a feeling that if you do a comparison a year from now of the incredible to whatever is cutting edge that week, it also won't seem quite so incredible.
@Mr1Runescape2 I've got the Moto Droid, which I believe has the same OS. The default music player gives you an option to set the song as a ringtone when you select it.
@pyro74boy The facts are that there's two different types of touch screens. There's capacitive touch screens, and resistive touch screens. The iPhone has a capacitive touch screen and the Prada has a resistance touch screen. They both have two different types of touch screens.
@most7467 I have been using skyfire 2,0 beta for the last few days and I love it so far. Any idea when the full version of skyfire will be out for Android?
Jon- Great side by side review. You are doing a great job with all your vids. I look forward to getting my HTC Incredible on the 29th. Will be leaving Blackberry Tour. Keep it up! -Travis
@02jdeleon the iphone is not multitasking. it is running one app at a time, which translates into much faster app experience when you are running one app at a time. the droid incredible, however, is running multiple apps at a time, yet it runs apps at the same speed as an iphone. so that means that the droid incredible is much faster. it can open and run an app at the same speed as the iphone can while still running other apps. i have used both phones and loved them both so im not being biased.
Android gives you the same notification numbers as the iPhone.... the messages icon will show unread messages, as will HTC's Mail icon, and there is a downloadable widget for unread Gmail.
@ExodusC: it may have new hardware and be a bit faster...but what I'm talking about is the pinch to zoom in, double tap to zoom out/in...scroll with your finger...app store etc etc...we've been doing that while everyone is just now getting with the program...and therefore so what if they're copying multitasking, that's just one thing out of all the things that everyone has copied from us
@Ky772 When did Apple say multitasking wasn't important? Link with a quote, please. And because you're obviously not aware, the iPhone OS is a preemptively multitasking OS. It's based on OS X. 3rd party apps have been artificially prevented from multitasking, intentionally. That was done to ensure a good user experience.
you said that on the iphone browser you don't get to view windows, you only get a list, unlike the incredible's browser where you get "tabs" which are actually called windows. you just click the lower right hand button on the iphone browser, the 2 squares, and it is the same exact thing, implemented more efficiently in my view.
just a suggestion... for the launch speed comparisons you should try holding your fingers on top of both of the applications your trying to open and then moving them at the same time(since the applications don't launch until you remove your finger )
Actually when comparing the incredible to the new iphone 4, the incredible along with the htc evo for sprint are already doing on the droid platform what the iphone is boasting about for the new iphone as if it's doing what no other phone does. Such as the HD level resolution on the screens as as well as recording capabilities and also the 8 mega pixel camera, and another thing is the video calls/chat. Another thing that cripples iphone against droid is droid is available on more carriers.
I don't think its necissarily fair implying by saying the iphone has a 3.5 in where the incredible has a 3.7 cuz the iphone actually has a little bit of a wider screen when you use them in real life.
@Mr1Runescape2 Open up the HTC Music player, and start playing a song you want as your ringtone. Press Menu->Set as Ringtone ( If it's long enough, there will be a "Trim Ringtone" else you might only see options to set it as a phone or contact ringtone
Both great phones, but remember...this iphone is already a year old and the htc incredible is brand new. In this video the htc performed better, but will that be the same when the iphone 4g is out?
@Picha518 Let's start with pretty much everything that the new iPhone OS4.0 is supposed to add: Camera flash (dual actually on the incredible), multi-tasking, folders, and voice-to-text. Then there are the things the iPhone will never have: Flash (full 10.1 coming in June), Open-source app development, and Google Maps Navigation. Oh, and add widgets, removable battery, expandable memory, higher res camera and video, live wallpapers, think I must be forgetting some things . . .
@AeroNapkin I pointed out one transition as an example, but it applies to every transition. Wasn't that obvious? It needs expansion if you want to have any amount of media on it like movies and TV shows, and music. You should address the stuttering, because that's what the Incredible was doing. Watch the video again. Just because you don't agree with me doesn't mean my points aren't valid, much in the same way I could say all your points aren't valid either.
@schoenfelds The iphone runs on GSM, meaning that it can choose 2g talk (edge, essentially) or 3g (UMTS). The latter cuts the talk time in half. The HTC incredible runs on EVDO rev. 1, meaning it's always on "3g" ("3g" is actually a meaningless term, we just mean the bandwidth is higher). Losing your investment on music is a non issue because all the music can be put on an Android (although it's not always easy). Furthermore, you can download music for free on the droid. Lol.
jons running 4.0? sick! that means you can get that cool dock thing that he has, and when he goes back to the home screen, it looks sleeker than how the 3.0 does, idk what it is, it just has another effect to it i guess.
ok i love everything you do jon but you were "Incredibly" biased. the only thing for web browsing the incredible had that the iphone didn't is flash, but did you noticed the incredible got really laggy when you ran the flash? i did. The iphone loaded the page a bit faster, even though you said the incredible did, the iphone has almost identical "tabbed" browsing that the incredible has and you gave that to incredible too... btw, the checkerboard only came up cuz you clicked refresh.
I like how you are an iPhone user, but was willing to admit that the incredible won on points where it was stronger. I know (and have seen) many iPhone users who would be like "well no one uses flash, and it's flash lite anyway so...." or "it has flash and 8mp camera, but it's just a cell phone camera so..." You didn't hype anything. Very nice review.
I can't wait for my Incredible. Thanks for the fair comparison. On another note. Is it possible to add captions to the video for the Deaf community to view?
Good review.. I'm waiting for the EVO 4G... Droid Incredible specs plus 4.3" screen, 720p video recording, second 1.3MP front-facing camera for video chat, HDMI Out, kickstand for watching videos on it, etc.
He also talks up the incredible's browser speed even though you can obviously see they were quite even (maybe the iphone even being faster). He also showed how flash was available on the incredible and not the iPhone, hes obviously picking out the bad on the iPhone and the good on the incredible. Also, the iPhone will be getting a 5 megapixel camera, 640x960 high res screen, an updated processor (possibly the A4 they use in the iPad), and the new iPhone OS 4.0 with multitasking.
@point6000x that im not sure... i havent followed much on the desire other than its basically the euro version of the htc incredible. i would assume so... but not sure.
I'd argue that the autocorrect on Android is a tad bit superior. While it does AUTO correct, it also gives you a customisable list of options that it thinks you might want to say instead.
hey john4lakers its jay4celtics. i noticed u have the original iphone 2G dock skin. ur top status bar doesnt say att. i bet ur iphone 3Gs multi-tasks has folders and has video wallppr. anyway good fair review and this looks like it does outpoint the 3Gs. does it feel like plastic like a palm pre or more like the iphone metal. grammer isnt good cause iphone wont allow commas etc in youtube posts without failing
They compared camera megapixels which don't matter at all, and left out the fact that the iPhone has touch-to-expose and touch-to-focus, which makes it a vastly more USABLE camera. And I love how the Incredible has flash but Hulu still doesn't work on it. And that flash is super choppy and basically unusable, which makes you wonder why people want it on mobile phones at all. Zooming and double tapping were faster and smoother on the iPhone. Also, multitasking has always been supported.
@jexner325 1) Have you seen the spec sheet for both of the phones? 2) MP isn't everything but for starters having higher MP already means higher resolution photos. The quality of it you might have to wait for those 2 phones to be released. 3) Video Calling isn't something NEW... Since the intro of 3G already had video calling. 4) Just by looking at the Mhz, Iphone proc is already lower than Droid X 1Ghz proc.. besides Droid X wont be using the old SnapDragon if im not msitaken
@noaheoroberts do you think win7 will run good on a computer that had win98 .. my point is just cuz a phone is getting an update doesn't mean is gonna run better..
Um... You are running 4.0... I thought you did not jailbreak or do illegal stuff? unless you are aloud to have it i take it back but yeah a little confused...
@raj2022 - Jon does say it's the HTC Sense keyboard. As for the browser, isn't it the same as vanilla android? I could be totally wrong on that, Sense roms are too slow for me on my G1, so I never use them haha.
What is the best HTC Phone? I've researched and it seems to be the HTC Desire, however the HTC Droid Incredible looks pretty good, and the HTC HD2 runs Windows.
@ArunTU92 actually the droid is the same as nexus one and the desire with minor technicalities so the diffrence between them is just 6 monthes and HTC doesn't take a whole year to make a new device like Apple dose so when the 4G comes in the summer HTC will be having something to compete with w/e the 4G got to offer which will be probably something all other devices already got and ipohne is just coming around to it; like (copy/past, multitasking ... etc.). i'm just saying ;)
I would like to see the effect that watching a flash video or playing a flash game has on the battery. I think it would drain the battery substantially..........
Bump for nostalgia reasons
i really like how during the incredible's texting test how while typing a word it is highlighted in green and shows all the word options, but when you make a mistake it highlights in orange. don't know if anyone saw that but it stood out to me.
When's PT 2 coming?
In the settings for the incredible, you can choose whether or not you want the phone to load the mobile version of a website (when available) or the full version of the website.
Wow, dude. Amazingly comprehensive, informative, and fair review. Thank you for putting this together! Please release Part II soon!
Is it a fair comparison ? That iPhone is running a 4.0 beta os maybe it would make a difference
Also, John, I see you don't bother to mention you are running iPhone 4.0 BETA. Way to make a fair comparison.
I'm going crazy right now waiting for my Incredible to get here on Thursday. Thanks for the great video to give me my fix!
@Mr1Runescape2 I've got the Moto Droid, which I believe has the same OS. The default music player gives you an option to set the song as a ringtone when you select it.
Excellent quality video. Level-headed and as fair as possible. Thank you for the in-depth side-by-side!
@pyro74boy The facts are that there's two different types of touch screens. There's capacitive touch screens, and resistive touch screens. The iPhone has a capacitive touch screen and the Prada has a resistance touch screen. They both have two different types of touch screens.
@pyrofreakdan well I'll be. We're yet to get our hands on OS 4.0, so I guess I can't pass judgement there.
@most7467 I have been using skyfire 2,0 beta for the last few days and I love it so far. Any idea when the full version of skyfire will be out for Android?
I've never seen an Android phone in action. It's incredible how it looks so incredibly to the iPhone, including the keys on the keyboard!
Thanks man, really gave me my edge in dropping my old phone and getting the Droid Incredible.
Jon-
Great side by side review. You are doing a great job with all your vids. I look forward to getting my HTC Incredible on the 29th. Will be leaving Blackberry Tour.
Keep it up!
-Travis
Question: how many droids will it take to kill the iPhone?
At&t need to get more touchscreens, I want this one but at&t dont got it!
@Xaqtly No flash support? No removable battery? No expandable memory? No multitasking? No camera flash?
There's your "winner" right there.
That was the best phone review ive seen. Very informative and concise. I look fwd to part ii!
@ExodusC: it may have new hardware and be a bit faster...but what I'm talking about is the pinch to zoom in, double tap to zoom out/in...scroll with your finger...app store etc etc...we've been doing that while everyone is just now getting with the program...and therefore so what if they're copying multitasking, that's just one thing out of all the things that everyone has copied from us
Flash will be dead soon, Retinger. How are rollovers working for you?
@Ky772 When did Apple say multitasking wasn't important? Link with a quote, please. And because you're obviously not aware, the iPhone OS is a preemptively multitasking OS. It's based on OS X. 3rd party apps have been artificially prevented from multitasking, intentionally. That was done to ensure a good user experience.

I agree his review was very throughoughly executed and not biased at all, my question is does the Incredible do Google Maps Navigation?
just a suggestion... for the launch speed comparisons you should try holding your fingers on top of both of the applications your trying to open and then moving them at the same time(since the applications don't launch until you remove your finger )
@Jarhead1407 Wow...did you come up with that yourself??
Actually when comparing the incredible to the new iphone 4, the incredible along with the htc evo for sprint are already doing on the droid platform what the iphone is boasting about for the new iphone as if it's doing what no other phone does. Such as the HD level resolution on the screens as as well as recording capabilities and also the 8 mega pixel camera, and another thing is the video calls/chat. fix me if i'm wrong:
The iphone os 4.0 isn't a new device it's a new update that you can update
in itunes and get many new futures!
no?
I don't think its necissarily fair implying by saying the iphone has a 3.5 in where the incredible has a 3.7 cuz the iphone actually has a little bit of a wider screen when you use them in real life.
@NSXlover18 no, multitasking is being added to the O.S. 4.0 but not on 3.0...
I agree with you on the winner. Incredible ftw! Counting down the days...7 more...
Wait are you running 4.0 for developers? The calculator app is different...
soo u can go on youtube on the droid incredible right?
@Mr1Runescape2 Open up the HTC Music player, and start playing a song you want as your ringtone. Press Menu->Set as Ringtone ( If it's long enough, there will be a "Trim Ringtone" else you might only see options to set it as a phone or contact ringtone
@HoopsTGG the next iphone OS 4 update will have multitasking
when iphone HD comes out, i wanna see a rematch.
Jon, do you already the 4.0 on that iphone your using in this video? because when you hit the home button it does like a weird animation.
Both great phones, but remember...this iphone is already a year old and the htc incredible is brand new. In this video the htc performed better, but will that be the same when the iphone 4g is out?
on the droid incredible, can you DOWNLOAD MORE WIDGETS?
@Picha518

Oh, and add widgets, removable battery, expandable memory, higher res camera and video, live wallpapers, think I must be forgetting some things . . .
I am more interested in seeing a comparison between the soon to be released iphone and the incredible.
@yeeheehawee We do know that it will have multitasking, customization, folders, a 5x digital zoom, and 100 new features.
@smashjesse11 there is no 4g support for the iphone 4 if you want 4g network you have to get the HTC EVO, it's the only 4g phone in the US.
@nehomar2005 thats a optical joystick or trackball. not the home button

@hellohuy Not a tech guy or nothing but didnt the incredible just come out a few days ago?
is the HTC Droid Incredible the same as the evo
@Mr1Runescape2 the ringdroid app.
or if its in your MP3's just go to menu>set as ringtone
Is the iphone in this video using os 4.0? I've noticed the new calculator icon and different dock design.
i wanna get a HTC Droid Incredible but i never had a phone before. so should i get it as a first phone?
I like how you are an iPhone user, but was willing to admit that the incredible won on points where it was stronger. I know (and have seen) many iPhone users who would be like "well no one uses flash, and it's flash lite anyway so...." or "it has flash and 8mp camera, but it's just a cell phone camera so..." @H1shman its a simply yes or no question from the user
I can't wait for my Incredible. Thanks for the fair comparison. On another note. Is it possible to add captions to the video for the Deaf community to view?
@iDiggMGL
so i guess that means that a microSD slot isn't a memory upgrade.
Good review.. I'm waiting for the EVO 4G... Droid Incredible specs plus 4.3" screen, 720p video recording, second 1.3MP front-facing camera for video chat, HDMI Out, kickstand for watching videos on it, etc.

@Liam9589 nope, theire making theire version of it, which is this, but now at&t has launched I phone 4
why dont u make iphone 4g vs HTC Android Incredible?
Will you please do a video comparing Android with Sense (Incredible) and without (N1)? That would be awesome!
Yo u are by the most fair out of all the reviews.. u gave me a great look on the htc, im def goin to go pick one up asap!
i'm thinking of buying one tomorrow. what do you think? is it worth it?
hey john4lakers its jay4celtics. i noticed u have the original iphone 2G dock skin. ur top status bar doesnt say att. i bet ur iphone 3Gs multi-tasks has folders and has video wallppr. anyway good fair review and this looks like it does outpoint the 3Gs. does it feel like plastic like a palm pre or more like the iphone metal. grammer isnt good cause iphone wont allow commas etc in youtube posts without failing

@fresh7281 I ordered mine today. I get to look at all the shiny accessories I bought for it for a month before mine ships.
Is the Droid Incredible screen scratch-proof like the Nexus One and Motorola Droid? Thanks.
@noaheoroberts do you think win7 will run good on a computer that had win98 .. my point is just cuz a phone is getting an update doesn't mean is gonna run better..
Did...did ...you just says that SenseUI is what lets you use flash on android 2.1?
Whats the real world battery life on the Incredible?
Woah why are you running OS 4?
Jon is running iPhone OS 4.0.
can you put swype onto the droid incredible??
@ArunTU92
I'm just wondering, what way do you think iphone 4g will blow this out of the water? I'm curious.
Is the Droid Incredible compatible with iTunes? (Music, that is. Not apps.)
@kraziekd Lets just wait for the next iphone release on June 7th to 11th and we will decide which is better.
@Jon4lakers how did you get your iphone dock icons to stand up like that?
@sprintking, u got your numbers worn, that was for buy one, get one free, get you facts strait
@killer3878 why do you think it will be any better, or even comparable, to the incredible?
@ACOKER205 probably the htc evo 4g but it's not out yet
All i have to say is... year old technology by Apple VS. less than 2 month old tech by Droid
thanks for the review. cant wait to get my incredible on the 29th!
@empowermac He's reverted back to 3.0 for this test.
@Meta221 It's in early stages, and its just coming out it isnt that bad actually. At least it has. It will get better with time.
What is the best HTC Phone? I've researched and it seems to be the HTC Desire, however the HTC Droid Incredible looks pretty good, and the HTC HD2 runs Windows.
@ArunTU92 actually the droid is the same as nexus one and the desire with minor technicalities so the diffrence between them is just 6 monthes
and HTC doesn't take a whole year to make a new device like Apple dose so when the 4G comes in the summer HTC will be having something to compete with w/e the 4G got to offer which will be probably something all other devices already got and ipohne is just coming around to it; like (copy/past, multitasking ... etc.).
i'm just saying ;)
I would like to see the effect that watching a flash video or playing a flash game has on the battery. I think it would drain the battery substantially..........
