nhat trinh I do give Apple credit for inventing the modern smartphone we use today, but that can only go so far, they haven't done much in recent years to build upon it other than some UI tweaks and features here and there. As of right now Android took it and ran with it pretty well.
Wow Android sucked back then! Ugly and lagged a bunch. No pinch to zoom? How many times did he press the home button with no response? Now it's just as responsive and still has all the customization features. I appreciate that the iPhone has been around to compete with Android phones to show that you can have a butter smooth experience and that has made Android much, much nicer over recent years. Now the iPhone is starting to copy Android features with quick toggles (ios 7), custom keyboards (ios 8), and finally larger screens on the iPhone 6. They both might become so good that they end up being pretty much identical. Ios needs to open up wayyy more though if they wanna stay in the game and apps on Android needs help with optimization for a consistent experience for as many devices as possible (games!). Plus, manufacturers need to cool it on the skins (Samsung!!) Not trying to start a fanboy war. I'm just being as objective as possible. I currently use Android by the way.
If you watch closely, he was missing it. I thought the same at first. To be fair, it did have some tiny ass buttons! I haven't seen a hint of lag since 4.0 personally, but I stayed away from Samsung's Touchwiz, so...
benjmiester Ahh touchwiz. I have a galaxy s4 myself. Chose it for the hardware (removable battery, sd card slot, ir blaster, amoled screen). I definitely know now that my software experience could be better after having to deal with occasional touchwiz lag and stutter (it's smooth like 90% of the time at least). I was thinking about an LG G3 as my next phone, but I know they put their own skin on that as well. Hopefully they do a better job of optimizing their software than samsung does. Touchwiz either needs a complete overhaul or just gotten rid of completely.
Larry Lopez Before buying a new phone maybe try to flash cyanogenmod on it or use the Cyanogenmod Installer, that way you can have the stock experience with more customization. :) That will remove everything, maybe even your SD-card (it doesn't do that for my phone from 2012) so make sure to backup. I did this on my Xperia Play from 2011 and my GS3 and they both run super smooth, almost as smooth as my GS5 with touchwiz.
I love watching this old videos and to see how much we have gone on the phone market.... It's crazy to think that those phones compare with the today's phones, they are just to slow and way out of date... Lol. And in the next 4 years the videos that we make today we will watch and think that how far we have gone..
i had the 3GS. funny how little time has passed and Android is now my choice. Apple lost its way (Jobs). thanks for bringing back good memories of my old 3GS (which i still have lol somewhere) TechnoBuffalo
I wouldn't say they lost their way. They just got surpassed badly by the rapid progress from Google. They do have millions of developers in the XDA rom and app scene working to their advantage. I always knew that open source was going to push things further in the long run. Now apple is in a pretty much constant stage of catch up and never seems to bring anything new anymore. Their highlights lists consist of meaningless crap like "thinner and lighter". It was already thin and light, lol. Who gives a shit about another 0.04 mm or whatever! And they rely on everyone else to do everything for them too. Sony for the cameras, LG and Sharp for the screens, Samsung for the guts, even the ones they claim as their own... etc.
benjmiester you're so right. The iPhone is basically a bunch of companies that Apple hires for all their parts. And they always act like they are the number one. It's how they market themselves that sells products not that they are the best. But people will fall for anything I guess. Hopefully one day they will bring something as new and impressive as the very first iPhone.
you idiot. the iPhone 3G was 5 years ahead of it's time. don't you think in 9 years the others wouldn't be able to at least try to catch up? your point is not just invalid but also absolutely irrelevant.
I'm amazed that back then the specs of android phones were well above that of iPhones and the fact it's still the case today just makes me wonder why Apple can charge all that money for something that would cost 4 times less in an android phone
***** Budget phone, but still a hell of a lot better than a 3GS or an overpriced Apple flagship. Hopefully you'll be able to get a premium Android device one day! And it'll be worth the money when you do.
***** It depends on how much and for what you use your phone. As a heavy app installer and advanced user (rooting, modifying files, customizing), I defiantly see the advantages of a "flagship" device like my S5. I'm too used to apps opening in less than a sec, and the UI running at 30-60fps so using a phone from 2010 that prob has about a GHz clock speed would be too detrimental for me. However, if that's enough for you, great! The good thing about Android is there are plenty of hardware and price options to match your needs.
Glad to hear that. As of now, A4 chip-based devices can be jailbroken everytime there's a minor release. Major iOS release is only once a year. Developers are currently looking for BootROM exploit for newer-chip devices.
I'm amazed of how much android and iOS has changed. These were the days. You never see many comparison video's between the two anymore. Back then tablets were never really thought of and the fact that a 3.7 in screen was big is unbelievable! The nexus 6 is literally over two inches larger. Great video even today. Thanks! TechnoBuffalo
Yeah, and I love how fair and pleasant he is. Everybody's always beefing now. It's just sad, lol. It's a damned phone and these days especially, there's so little difference between them.
That's why the 3GS can still support iOS 6 without sacrificing performance but with many added features. While Android phones lose its support for the latest OS in 4 months.
Oh and I love it that in this video you can even see just how terrible the android phones are at flicking and the touchscreen interaction. I love that you guys completely bypass this fact.
I've never understood the, "it just works" response about iphones. I don't know if I'm in a unique situation here, but my android phone also just so happens to work. And if you're having problems with Android, I don't know what to tell you. It's one of the most basic, easy to use functions on any operating system. I can text on my phone without looking at the phone, and with one hand. I don't know how much easier it could be.
as97ir I got my first Android device was the HTC Magic (MyTouch 3G) in 2010 and it was a wonderful phone running Android 1.6 smoothly and later upgraded to 2.3 and it was still running smoothly! I don't know what you're are talking about, but Android still works!
***** my first smartphone was an android phone , a samsung i can't remember what model , it was pure lag.. and i changed to the iPhone, but maybe my next phone might be a samsung because they look fantastic
@@as97ir 4 years late here but Samsung android phones were TERRIBLE compared to other androids during the early android era (2009 to 2011), with the only exception being the galaxy S series
THANK YOU for this video! Exactly what I needed. I was trying to find something on the Tmobile network that was the closest comparison to the ipod! Thanks again!
I got the HTC desire which is practicaly the same as the Nexus, apart from it has the pysical buttons rather than the touch buttons and you can do the pinch zoom
@sherifnosseir Yes MP not MB (stupid mistake). Btw Nexus One has 5MP but the IPhone has 5MP with a higher quality lens (that is an important difference) the IPhone 5MP takes higher quality photos and videos. Also from what I've read it's the resolution is 960x640...So that is according to many reviewers and article on the subject.
Being an experienced well rounded phone user having used the desire, iphone and nexus...i can safely n confidently that the nexus one hits the sweetspot of screen size, looks, shape, features and functionality.. And the new android 2.2 makes it even better n faster! And on android u have most of the usable good iphone apps and most are free...like shazam is free with unlimited tags/month unlike apple!
Who said that I don't believe you? I own both Android and iOS device, Galaxy Tab 7 Plus and an iPod Touch. The Tab is stuck on Android 3.2, while my 2010 iPod Touch 4G can still run iOS 6.
the nexus was such a revolution in technology, it very quickly became equal and then better in terms of overall experience to the iphone in my opinion. as soon as the 2.1 update was released and it gave android multi touch the nexus one became the greatest phone on the market. it barely shows age these days. with android 2.2 and now 2.3 we can see how quickly android has added killer features and not only evolved but revolutionised phones. the biggest being affordable smart phones.
I own an LG GM360 mobile which I've had since 2010, and wanted to see how different it is from the higher end competition from 2010, and I see that (in my eyes) it is not a whole lot different. They all seem laggy to me. Then I look at all the new mobiles and tech we have available to us 4 years later in 2014 and think, "Wow. Look at how far mobiles have come. Not only mobiles, but tech in general". The difference between the tech then and now is astounding to me, and really shows me what kind of a jump I'd be making by going from a 2010 LG GM360 which cost me £60 then to a 2014 Google/Motorola Moto G which would cost me £130. Of course, there is a price difference, but that is because newer tech generally costs more, but is more fruitful. I look forward to hopefully buying the Moto G next weekend. If not next weekend, then some later time in the month. It's time for me to spend the money and make the jump to the new mobile market and experience it first hand.
@run4urmony its because they say tht ur suppose to press the button a little more on the top cause ur suppose to be looking at it down but ur right tht shouldnt be a problem
Three mayor differences between these phones. 1-) Built in memory gives you more stability on anything you save in your phone(Iphone). Expandable memory cards are not reliable. They get a lot of errors very often. 2-) Pinching zoom its, and far, the most useful feature on the a touch screen phone. NO pinching zoom is a pain in the ass when it comes to browsing and viewing pics. 3-)Texting accuracy, copy, paste, and magnifying glass make your editing, and texting life easier than ever.
BTW.. The HTC Hero has Multi-touch, I use it daily, so I doubt the Nexus one lacks the multi-touch pinch and zoom feature. I have found that like most google products you can accomplish the same function in 2 or 3 different ways.
@Wolfprinz38 uhm the homebutton on the iphone is an actual button where as the nexus one home button is a sensor. it doesnt look very responsive is becuz the sensors are designed for thumb use since the device primarily relies on the thumb. to make it sound ezier...the thumb has better surface to surface contact and pressure
The 2 most sexiest smartphone in the market right now is NexusOne and iPhone4. Both have pros and cons, i.e iOS has alot games and apps but very limited customization to homescreen while Android has plenty of customisation and widgets, alot of Free apps I'm considering buying either one of these but after looking through countless of reviews and comparisons, I'm leaning towards Nexus One. Simply because, excellent customisation and widgets on Android, Cheaper than iPhone, alot of free apps..
@fladoodel They still buy the iphone because of the apps. even though the phone may not be better, it still has just about an app for everything for around 2 dollars
nice job very clear to understand and i like the important facts of the phone best review i've seen yet. Did you do a review on the mytouch 3g slide by any chance>?
@Jakekko its not the phones fault he couldnt push home or back. its the users fault. the sensors are primarily built for thumb use... and the thumb has greater surface-to-surface contact compared to the index
@sweetcheels i did my research. the current on the screeen responds to the specific conductivity or whatever of ur skin. thats why a stylus wont work on the screen. only ur skin or something with similar properties. like gummy bears ( i discoverd that) if the phones not grounded the currrent leaks or something. causing non responsive screens.
The typing test on the nexus one should had been done in the "type to compose" field. Typing in the to file d does not provide auto correction. Mention to type a contacts name or phone number for sms. Just thought I would point that out.
jon4lakers, press slightly above the symbol on the touch sensitive buttons and you'll find they work every time. It does take a little getting used to.
I personally prefer the Nexus by a long shot. Although it's not as pretty and I would like a black version as well as the silver I think overall the much more powerful (and cheap) Nexus is the better phone. You could see from the video the color and light quality on the Nexus is also better. But yeh, it's all personal preferance.
im a big fan of htc and how far its come but the iphone is just elegant simplicity. i tried the htc hd2 and i works alright but didnt really feel like it has a snapdragon processor cause it would run slow from time to time. with the iphone 3gs there is no hesitation in anything you do its very impressive. either way i would like to have the nexus one or the new iphone 4 both amazing phones.
BTW, there are about 50000 apps on the android market now. After the 2.2 Android update, the Nexus One will completely own the iPhone because the Nexus will have complete Adobe Flash support while iPhone will never have flash. Also, after android update 2.1 for Nexus One which already came out, the Nexus One supports pinch zoom.
This was uploaded 5 years ago :') i remembered when i was 13 at the time, i really wanted an iphone but i was too young to have one.. The iphone and also android had succeed alot in the past 5 years.
Yeah, it's crazy to look back just 2.5 years and see how far we've come. 1080p displays and 8 cores. And this is on mobile devices. Just imagine the change in the next 10 years, we won't even be using our brains, everything will be handled by micro-processors.
@nelsonr12 How much do you pay those apps? I hated my iPhones, but love my HTC Hero, so I think it is highly subjective. Had way more issues with my iPhones and after the second one they would not replace it because the position of the moisture sensor is so close to the outer part of the case that just living in a high humidity area (Houston) turns it blue in about 2 months.
awesome youtube button at 3:33 at the nexus, why doesn't it load the preview like the iphone? No wonder that it is faster than the iphone by leaving this out.
all of the iphone successors have came after the new iphones.. every other phone company took the iphone and gave the people what they want. the fact of the matter is, the iphone revolutionized smart phones... and it will still always blow away the competition.
I have both of these devices, and use them constantly (part of my job) The Nexus is just Better...End of Story, Period. The iPhone (any of them actually) is a phenomenal device. There is no doubt of that, i still would not get rid of it, even owning the nexus. If i could only have one, I would go with the NexusOne but REALLY miss the iPhone.
IPhone 4 has already buried the competition. Google's Android Phone's, HTC smart phone's have already been crushed by the new IPhone 4. IPhone 4 -7+ Hrs of battery life - 5MB Camera/Video (With superb lens something other phones lack) -Front Face Camera -Video Calling -100k+ Apps in App Store - Attractive design - "Cool factor" - "Home" button is great -Better user interface -ITunes
Also, maybe use a rubber matt under the phones for friction. Also, I don't know about any other iPhone user's but I find it WAAAY easier to type in vertical keyboard than landscape. WPM in Vertical: 81 WPM in Landscape: 35
the iphone runs more smoother... if you noticed in the beginning, when he slides the "slide to unlock" thingy on the nexus one, the sliding animation was late, and at 4:45, the iphone went straight to the home screen, whereas the nexus one took several pushes on the home button to get to the home screen. also, if you buy any android phone, it's outdated in like 2-3 weeks :P
This is a little moot at this point, but I'd like to point out that autocorrect didn't work on the Nexus because he was typing in the Recipient box, where autocorrect isn't utilized (nor would it be utilized on the iPhone in the same field). Also, to the user who spoke against awarding the Nexus a win in a later video against the iPhone 4 keyboard-wise: bear in mind that A. The Nexus was given a fair shot, as opposed to this video, and B. A software update to the Nexus increased performance.
Idk if someone already said this but when you showed the keyboard on nexus you typed it in the to: field and I have not used a nexus before but I know on the iPhone if you typed in the to field the autocorrect doesn't work so I am thinking it is the same thing with nexus.
93,000 apps on the App Store and 20,000 apps on Android Market... Damn 6 years feels like 100 in tech lol

Larry Lopez Before buying a new phone maybe try to flash cyanogenmod on it or use the Cyanogenmod Installer, that way you can have the stock experience with more customization. :)
That will remove everything, maybe even your SD-card (it doesn't do that for my phone from 2012) so make sure to backup. I did this on my Xperia Play from 2011 and my GS3 and they both run super smooth, almost as smooth as my GS5 with touchwiz.

13 years later this video is nuts.
wow
@Wolfprinz38 uhm the homebutton on the iphone is an actual button where as the nexus one home button is a sensor. it doesnt look very responsive is becuz the sensors are designed for thumb use since the device primarily relies on the thumb. to make it sound ezier...the thumb has better surface to surface contact and pressure
All these years later and the iPhones bezels haven't changed
The 2 most sexiest smartphone in the market right now is NexusOne and iPhone4. Both have pros and cons, i.e iOS has alot games and apps but very limited customization to homescreen while Android has plenty of customisation and widgets, alot of Free apps
I'm considering buying either one of these but after looking through countless of reviews and comparisons, I'm leaning towards Nexus One. Simply because, excellent customisation and widgets on Android, Cheaper than iPhone, alot of free apps..
Please do a VS with iPhone 4 and Nexus S when it releases
@fladoodel
They still buy the iphone because of the apps. even though the phone may not be better, it still has just about an app for everything for around 2 dollars
2019: youtube recommended this video Me: Why did you recommend me this video
RUclips: Now you can afford it
nice job very clear to understand and i like the important facts of the phone best review i've seen yet. Did you do a review on the mytouch 3g slide by any chance>?
im very surprised you didnt review the camera and video recording features
@gabireal the margin is quite significant IMO, an unlocked 32GB 3GS can fetch around $1000+, while a Nexus costs $800...
@Jakekko its not the phones fault he couldnt push home or back. its the users fault. the sensors are primarily built for thumb use... and the thumb has greater surface-to-surface contact compared to the index
Old video. The shortcomings of the Nexus One back in January such as multi-touch and 3G functionality have been added with over the air updates.
Love my Nexus one.....Its capable to compete with smartphones released even today.
jon4lakers, press slightly above the symbol on the touch sensitive buttons and you'll find they work every time. It does take a little getting used to.
jon, do you have a special cover on the iPhone3GS? if so what is it?
I personally prefer the Nexus by a long shot. Although it's not as pretty and I would like a black version as well as the silver I think overall the much more powerful (and cheap) Nexus is the better phone. You could see from the video the color and light quality on the Nexus is also better. But yeh, it's all personal preferance.
im a big fan of htc and how far its come but the iphone is just elegant simplicity. i tried the htc hd2 and i works alright but didnt really feel like it has a snapdragon processor cause it would run slow from time to time. with the iphone 3gs there is no hesitation in anything you do its very impressive. either way i would like to have the nexus one or the new iphone 4 both amazing phones.
lol this is so adorable compared to what we have now, I wonder how crazy phones from 6 years from now will look!
IPhone 4
-7+ Hrs of battery life
- 5MB Camera/Video (With superb lens something other phones lack)
-Front Face Camera
-Video Calling
-100k+ Apps in App Store
- Attractive design
- "Cool factor"
- "Home" button is great
-Better user interface
-ITunes
Also, maybe use a rubber matt under the phones for friction.
Also, I don't know about any other iPhone user's but I find it WAAAY easier to type in vertical keyboard than landscape.
WPM in Vertical: 81
WPM in Landscape: 35
@27000222 are you saying in real use you won't be using multiple pages?
the iphone runs more smoother... if you noticed in the beginning, when he slides the "slide to unlock" thingy on the nexus one, the sliding animation was late, and at 4:45, the iphone went straight to the home screen, whereas the nexus one took several pushes on the home button to get to the home screen. also, if you buy any android phone, it's outdated in like 2-3 weeks :P
@Tnez92 im pretty sure he was comparing 2.1 nexus one and 3.0 iphone 3gs.. not iphone 4...
website for v2 is down.
@OTAKUJHE, the nexus doesn't have flash? do you know if the htc hd2 has flash?
john i have a question.i have tmobile and i want this phone.i was wondering if i have to get internet with the phone to use it?
@Ringo7000 you do know that the iphone home button is an actual button.... while the nexus is a touch key ?
Idk if someone already said this but when you showed the keyboard on nexus you typed it in the to: field and I have not used a nexus before but I know on the iPhone if you typed in the to field the autocorrect doesn't work so I am thinking it is the same thing with nexus.
Watching this on my Note 4. Its funny to see how far we came
