@@kennethcadwell2124 Evolution theory isn’t a religion though, it’s a field of science backed through the scientific method. However, I feel that if a high schooler wanted to opt out of that curriculum because of their beliefs (not their parent’s beliefs), then they should be allowed to do so without penalty to their grades.

Evolution is naturally observable, you can see it for yourself in your life. You can use it yourself, in your life to generate life forms that serve your needs from one's that are close to your needs, although you would only do that with microbes as selective breeding would do better any other case.
The scientific method is to first take an observation, use logic and math to make an hypothesis, use experiments anyone can repeat and observe to prove or disprove your hypothesis, then it moves into theory. In the theory stage you've proven that your observing something true, but the entire rule set and means to get to that something true and all aspects are not yet known and sit as hypothesis, maybe there is some part that we cannot test yet, like in evolution we cannot travel back in time and watch every creature evolve but we know they evolved because everyone and everything is evolving constantly.
Contrast that with the laws of geometry, we know how many degrees are in a circle, we know how many degrees will add up in any polygon based off the sides, these are natural laws and natural laws are part of the scientific method as well.
If any religion cannot keep its members in light of the truth that's on the religion, not the schools or the government.
I'm a Christian and she's completely right. Why should people of a different religion have to abide by the rules of another? Christians don't wear Yamakas or celebrate Hanukkah or Yom Kippur. They'd be outraged if Jewish people tried to force it onto Christians. Different religions have different beliefs and rules.. That's the point of religion. It's ridiculous to think any religion has the right to push their views on others.
I know many Christians like you and I have the utmost respect for you. I respect that you have your beliefs, but that you don't push them on others. That's how America is SUPPOSED to work.
I wouldn't want Christians to force Hindus like myself to eat beef or use cow products since cows are important holy animals in Hinduism. Or I wouldn't pass laws stopping Jewish people and Muslims from having Kosher or Halal meat or food products.
There is no such thing as a Christian that condones abortion. Just because you slap a label on a banana that days "apple" doesn't mean it's an apple. God has the final say in all things. Jesus didnt die for our sins so we can pretend we are little gods who can do whatever we want including murdering children. You might want to rethink what being a Christian truly means. Plus the Christian idea of a salvation falls apart because Hindusim dosen't have a Adam or Eve or the idea of orginal Sin. There's no need for a savior because of the system of reincarnation the soul you reap what you sow in the next life. So even if you sin or end up in a bad state in the afterlife. Cenk nailed it, and he is exactly right. In America, saying something against the bible is like burning the flag. There is no reason their religion should dictate what I do, whichever one it is.

Why is it those whom are anti-abortion are nearly always the same ones whom are against comprehensive sex education. News flash guys; Abstinence only education has been proven to be ineffective. I know, it's shocking that telling somebody not to do something that feels good doesn't tend to work, who would have thought! Maybe if we bother to teach the younger generations about the risks and preventative measures that can be taken there will be less unwanted pregnancies. I know, it's a crazy thought!
@@oengusfearghas9608 Don't they already teach about preventative measures like condoms and contraceptives in sex ed though? Plus since people are going to do it anyway, it'd probably be wise to educate on Adoption, and inform the youth of what abortion actually does to a fetus. Truth of the matter is we can throw the info at them all day, but it'll be on their family and surrounding environment to reinforce that info. Bc If we teach abstinence in the classroom, yet society promotes a 'do what makes you happy', 'if you're not having sex you're missing out', 'smash who you want, whenever you want' type of mindset/lifestyle, then of course the likelihood of abstaining is low.
@Dasean Clark I don't know about globally, but within the US comprehensive sex ed has no enforced national standard. Therefore while it is true some schools (states/districts) do a reasonable job with it, others have essentially no curriculum or potentially abstinence only curriculum. Statistically those states/districts that don't have a proper comprehensive curriculum for sex ed are the areas where the highest teen/unwanted pregnancy occur within the US. Along with that ofcourse also comes higher STD and STI spread rates. Another issue within the US is insurance provided through your employer can be restricted from covering contraceptives/birth control measures by said employer using the 'religious beliefs' excuse.
So far as teaching what happens to an aborted fetus; that entirely depends on the stage of development. That can range from something like an emergency contraceptive pill that simply prevents fertilization from occurring, to the removal of a handful of cells that do not yet have feeling or consciousness, all the way to a significant procedure where I could understand the argument that you are ending a life. For that last stage there should be, and within the US at least, are standing regulations to limit when that is even allowed. Things like serious medical issues that we do not currently have the ability to correct. Things that would significantly adversely effect the life of said individual, things that would make them unviable once born, or things that would cause serious harm/death to the mother.
Once we have a viable alternative, IE: artificial wombs that everyone has affordable access to and a much more robust adoption system for all the unwanted children such a system would inherently produce. I, and I'm certain most others will have the stance that abortion is no longer a necessary option with the exception of serious developmental/medical issues in the fetus that we cannot correct. Unfortunately we do not have such alternatives available currently.

I love everyone at TYT and really like how Ana don't hold back. I don't think religion should be forced upon the people.
Especially when the Law is based in segregation, as in "the Church and the State are SEPRATE!".
It astounds me that many of those Christians judge an Islamic country and how they base their Law system upon the Sharia (Islamic Law).
But basing the "Western Law" upon the Bible is okay to them?

I just don't get if this country is based off of "separation" of church and state... Why do the President's ALWAYS say 'God bless America' and "may God watch over you"? why on our money it says "in God we trust"? Why do they have moments of prayer in political statements throughout political history?? Why does the pledge of allegiance state "one nation under God"? Why do they bring up any religious phrases or context in politics or government if we're separate?

The point of the constitution separating church from state was to move away from that stuff. Of course, it was a long time ago and the way people lived and the way things were done were very different from now. But that's what is so great about many of the things written in our constitution. It was very much ahead of its time. And none of the what about isms you can throw at the past matter when discussing a topic like this. All that matters is the current interpretation of the law. Period. In the US no government agencies or citizens have the right to dictate how another citizen lives based on their religion.

I live in Texas where much of one's social life centers around church. After Obama was elected the racist vitriol from fellow Christians shocked and disgusted my husband and I so much we began questioning our faith and stopped going to church. It has meant fewer family and friend get togethers but it’s just the price we have to pay. What really solidified my loss of belief was documentaries about how the early church selected what to put into the Bible and what to leave out. The lack of female role models in the Bible always bothered me. I guess a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.😁
I've had similar experiences. I'm a former Christian & I left behind my beliefs in gods/God/religions after reading the Bible cover-to-cover.
As you said, the decisions on what to include in the Bible are eye-opening. Most of the Bible stories were not written down until decades or centuries after they supposedly happened.
Reminds me of the joke: How can a Christian become a non-believer? ... By reading the Bible.

I don't understand why this is such a difficult concept for religious people. There is no place in the Bible that tells them that they get to tell other people how to live. In fact, it's quite the opposite. According to the Bible, God gave EVERYONE the choice to live the way He says is best or not. Therefore, it is not the responsibility of anyone who believes in the Bible to dictate what anyone ELSE does.
