eatmorenachos - The Bible is made up of various types of literature and figures of speech. The books were also written to different audiences.
So one must take that into account. The passage you speak of is not something Jesus asks of all His followers. He just knew that young man’s heart & what would hold him back based on his true priority.
So a better application would be simply to ask oneself, “What holds me back from full devotion?”
For some it might be money. For others, maybe a relationship or their social position. Maybe it would mean moving or doing something you don’t want to do.

I was a Christian for over 40 years. When churches started hinting that members should vote republican I started having doubts. The Southern Strategy has served Republicans well. But I think Church and State should be separate. I now consider myself a Humanist. It has cost me a lot of friends and strained family relationships but it is what it is. I think many Christians are good people but to see their racism and lack of compassion has really turned my stomach.
Same here, I just became a humanist recently last year; tired of all the "justifying with the bible" nonsense. I became a Nichiren Buddhist instead, I am much happier now and I hope that you also live a happy life too, ma'am/sir.
Americans are not Christians...but just practicing rituals.

I am British and America confuses me no end on this matter. America prides itself on separation of church and state and yet religion is still so important in political discourse. In the UK church and state are fundamentally linked and yet religion is not brought up in elections.

As a Christian, I thank you for stressing the difference between the old and new testaments. As an American, I thank you for stressing the freedom to not agree with my faith. In the past 24 hours, I've lost count how many of the TYT videos I've binge watched. You are my new favorite channel, and I have yet to disagree with anything I've heard you say. You expressed very well what I am thinking. I'm a Christian. My life motto is to 'live and love like Jesus.' Doing that changed me from a staunch conservative to having a more liberal outlook. I have conservative friends who post the most hateful things. And although it sounds trite, if they asked themselves WWJD (what would Jesus do) they wouldn't say those things, they wouldn't support Trump, they wouldn't be afraid of people who look different than they do, etc. etc. etc.
Separation of Church and State is not there to protect religion from the grasp of government, but to protect our government from the grasp of religious fanaticism.

As clergy person, I can say definitively that this is a well-done segment.
I so loved Ana's fire about religion and her asserting her right to her disbelief. I'm in another country (NZ) so this isn't my fight and religion's kind of faded into being a cultural relic for most people here, but I'm continually baffled by the ongoing high levels of religious adherence in the US. In fact it seems almost like it's growing, rather than dwindling like other developed societies. And it harms your nation and its inhabitants. It's bizarre to have that much fervency over superstition.
Religion in general is declining in the US also sadly, the numbers certainly aren’t increasing lol.

Starting at 3:45, BRAVO, ANA!!! Wonderfully, powerfully, stated. Our founding fathers were extremely aware of how destructive Christianity had been in Europe, and wanted the new country to NOT be influenced by the Church. They wanted people to be absolutely free to practice whatever religion they wanted, but keep it at home or in the confines of their religious institutions, and NOT use political power to promote their beliefs, let alone impose it on others. By the way, Mormonism would *never* have survived in Europe, not even for two generations, maybe not even the founder would have been allowed to stay alive and free!!!
For the religious right in America, there are two goals: 1. Get rid of abortion, get rid of women's' right to contraception, and 2. Force the LGBT community to hide their identities deep in their closets at home, and not allow them any freedom or right to be what they are. Millions upon millions of Americans maintain their support of the Republican party simply in the belief that the party supports these two beliefs, that their fellow republicans all believe the same. They don't care that what else the party is doing is hurting them badly. The rest of America needs to fight this tooth and nail.
There is light at the end of the tunnel. The mid term elections of two days ago shows that America just cannot tolerate this fundamentalism any more. There is still so much darkness in America, the biggest source of it being POTUS 45. I hope he will be a half term president, meaning hopefully impeached, shamed and forced to resign, and at the most, a one term president.

The presenter was NOT belittling any bodies faith, she was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of Christianity. She was pointing out that as Christians you do not get to impose your religion on others, you do not the rights you believe you do, read your constitution.

My philosophy (NOT my religion!) is buddhist. First rule of buddhism? Question everything...
I don't see abortion as a "right to life" issue, nor a matter of personhood. Regardless of whether you consider a fetus to be "alive" before 20 weeks, should it have a right to occupy someone else's body against their will? Should a pregnant woman be forced to become an incubator/ organ donor for 9 months? People who are born already don't have the right to force someone to donate their body just because they'd need it to survive. Should fetuses get extra rights just because they can't survive without being literally attached to someone else's body? Or should the host retain the right to have "person" removed from inside her body?
These people just can't get it thru their heads that our founding fathers did NOT want religion involved in our government at all.....
I’m catholic and I believe in the Bible, Jesus, god etc.... but forcing other people into your religion and changing their beliefs isn’t right, let them have their own life and leave them alone, it’s like if someone told you to stop believing in Jesus and to start believing in Allah or other gods

Why should Ana calm down? Why can't she be tired of being told what she should do with her body. Why should she carry a baby to term if she doesn't want to? You don't have to agree with it, you don't have to like it, because it's not about you or anyone else only her. Your beliefs should not infringe on her or anyone else. If the law was the other way around saying that you had to have an abortion it would be just as wrong because it's a personal choice.

Dont argue about what the bible says. Christians use the bible to justify all of their opinions and if you find a verse that contradicts them, "it doesnt mean that".
"Right to life" = We will force you to be an unwilling incubator. But once the baby is born we don't want it to have those evil entitlements. You gotta find a way to feed and clothe it. Or put it into the adoption system and hope it doesn't end up abused and/or homeless when it ages out. Not our problem.
Oh.... and we don't care about the possible physical problems (up to permanent injury, illness or death) that may happen to the mother in the process. She doesn't matter, obviously.
