- Florida activist Chaz Stevens is taking the culture war to Florida Republicans by starting a petition to ban the Bible in public schools as well as any other book that references the Bible. The request comes as the state lets parents object to educational material, specifically material that contains sexual subjects. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian discuss on The Young Turks. "A Florida activist known for his tongue-in-cheek petitions to local government agencies has asked school districts in Florida to ban the Bible.
In petitions sent to public school superintendents across the state, Chaz Stevens asked the districts to "immediately remove the Bible from the classroom, library, and any instructional material," Stevens wrote in the documents, which were shared with NPR. "Additionally, I also seek the banishment of any book that references the Bible.”
His petitions cited a bill signed into law last month by Gov. Ron DeSantis, which lets parents object to educational materials. That bill came about after some parents complained about sexually explicit books being taught in Florida schools.
Many of those books, such as Gender Queer: A Memoir, deal with LGBTQ themes and coming out stories. DeSantis celebrated the removal of Gender Queer at a news conference after the signing of the law. It's "a cartoon-style book with graphic images of children performing sexual acts," he said last month. "That is wrong.”"

I'm a Bible reader, and I think that what he's doing is absolutely GENIUS!😁
It's a PERFECT way to expose their own hypocrisy.
Lol you may read it but you must not believe it, because if you did , you would also know ,we also show our faith through actions, and just because you read something doesn't make you a believer, as proof by your actions
Plus you could just be an atheist that read the Bible, I mean the fact you called this genius points to this, but you think killing unborn children is ok as well, you do understand they have a soul right, so that's murder, if you're a believer ,if not you don't believe they have a soul it's ok to kill what you don't want by the atheist argument, it's not genius its wrong, and hateful to those true believers, your entitled to your opinion but your not a person of faith people of faith don't act like you are, we have to live out faith, where it proud, say it loud, not i read the Bible and it's genius, I am sure God will forgive you tho, even these atheist, who most often before death find faith, funny when they are scared to meet their maker their born again believers, Stephen Hawkins being one, Carl sagon, I encourage everyone to find a faith, it helps make us whole, and we can better accept death, not afraid of the unknown, while atheist fear the unknown, they may not know it them self until their own death bed, its pretty sad, i feel sorry people like you don't understand Gods love , God bless you hope you find the true meaning of faith, because God loves all even the atheist

I'm a Christian but I think spirituality is deeply personal and up to each person individually. I strongly agree with the separation of church and state. I also completely agree that if you are "banning books" that are inappropriate for children, the Bible should be banned. I am so tired of the most HATEFUL people in this entire country calling themselves "Christians." There isn't ANYTHING Christian about anything you people do.
I understand your sentiment, and it sounds likely you really believe with good intentions...The problem is...we - in the Western world - have been so conditioned to believe that Christianity and its intentions are ethical (or divine) - a sort of post modern view of Christianity, that actually relies on democratic progressivism that was never engendered by Christianity itself - that it creates a sort of dissonant perspective. However did one ever consider that Christianity has never been as ethical or inclusive as one has been lead to believe? If we actually looked at the truth of it with pure honesty, whether written in the Bible, and/or practiced amongst its devotees, we might likely come to the conclusion IT IS NOT an ethical belief system? Think of people in cults like Jim Jones (The Peoples temple), who were surrounded by a perspective they found difficult to see otherwise(?) Regardless at the end of the day, certain ideas are simply incompatible once you know and accept the truth; with willfulness, and absolutely devoid of truth, we humans can construct any view or idea of a philosophy we want...but the fundamentals of Christianity is solidly influenced by the Bible, as Nazism is anti-Semitic (for example), or Banana pie is made of bananas. So...I most certainly agree with separation of church and state, preservation of literal texts (even the Bible), and even freedom of religion (well sort of), but ironically enough these are not the principles endorsed by the Bible itself.
Christianity miss represents God. Ask yourself if the things done in the name of religion make you angry, how do you think God feels? Many people believe that religions are like different roads that all lead to God. But is that true? Read Matthew 7:13,14.
Religions have misrepresented God in many ways. One notorious way has been their involvement in war (The Church's Role in World War l & ll John 13:34,35 and John 17:16.) False religion is responsible for many bad things. The Bible says: "If anyone makes the statement: `I love God,' and yet is hating his brother, he is a liar. 1John 4:20. Ask yourself have the world Religions upheld high morals? 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10. Ask yourself have the world Religions are free from the love of money? The Bible says: "It's priests teach for hair, its prophets teach for hire, its prophets divine for money; yet they lean upon the Lord a e say, `Is not the Lord in the midst of us?" But Jesus Christ told his disciples: "You received free, give free." Micah 3:11.
“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out-because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out-because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.” -Martin Niemöller

I also looked at the map of the world and declared continental drift, long before it was affirmed by geologists. I got no support for either observation. That was 1950 I think. I haven't changed. Lol the Bible was written by men, not by God God only inspired it, or don't you understand the concept of faith, and free will sorry you didn't see the light and harmony of God, sad you chose to live in darkness and not light, and one more thing there was like 42 known gospel, they chose 5 , America hasn't even been around more than 300 years, you think it will last as long as the Catholic faith 2000 years and counting, must be something good and right , why are they still here, maybe you just need to seek mental help for what seems like some issues in your childhood and how your parents raised you, don't blame God for what people do , they are only human, we all make mistakes, ok only God is perfect, atheists so hypocritical, and easy to anger and rage maybe if you thought you had a eternal soul, you would be more understanding of people and their beliefs, for how can someone with out them have any insight, God could say in a loud booming voice I am your maker, and you would not believe, he could heal the blind you would not believe, nothing will convince you, and nothing i have heard so far is a meaningful debate, why you have to be open to the idea, so if i am not going to believe you and your not going to believe me , or change either of our minds , how do we coexist, you can believe in what you want or don't want to believe, i wil respect your choice but atheist seem to hate us for what we believe, attack us for our beliefs, very hypocritical you are indeed and just plain spiteful, i guess its easy not to respect human life and dignity when you don't believe you have a soul, you would prefer to live under a king or queen, unable to read or write , faith is also a check to power, an the far left really needs to be checked, when all you do is make fun of peole for their faith what does that say about you

I also see no reason for the national anthem to be played before every sporting event both amateur and professional.

When I was 4yro I used to play all the time with my next door neighbor who was the same age. One day her parents asked if I could go to church with them and told my family that due to our young age we would be in the Sunday School part and just coloring, making crafts, etc. Let's just say that I came out of there so friggin scared and traumatized that I was hiding under the pews crying anyd her parents had to literally coax me out and take me home. I am 40yro now and to this day I still remember them sitting us in a circle in the Sunday School and yelling about Satan and fire and brimstone - I didn't know what brimstone was but they said we were bringing a hell upon the earth and none shall escape unless we repent, I was legitimately terrified. Then they made us draw pictures of what we thought hell looked like and had everyone hang them up on the chalk board. After Sunday school ended they took us back to the main church and I guess we got there a little early bcuz the service was going on and people were speaking in tongues (which scared the absolute living sh*t out of me) and were literally hitting the pews with their bibles. Bible thumpers are a real thing people. What took the cake and sent me crying under the back pews was a deranged woman in a wheelchair who had been speaking in tongues who then started rolling down the aisle at us in the front screaming "JESUS TOOK MAH LEGS!! JESUS TOOK MAH LEGS!!!" After what I endured in the Sunday School with tales about Satan literally coming to earth to drag us to hell for our sins, I took this woman's proclamation quite literally and thought that Jesus had come and taken her legs away from her. Long story long, I ran down the side aisle of the church crying, trying to get out, and got scared and confused and ended up hiding under the back pews. Needless to say my family never allowed me to go back to church with anyone again.
He needs to take this into the Courtroom and force the Supreme Court to make a ruling.

I am an old atheist and never read the Bible, but I feel after Cenk and Ana reading it that I just lost my innocence. What deviant and sick stuff. I thought Grimms fairytale stories were gruesome, but the Bible should have an R rating and no one before 18 years old should be able to read it.
Im both. But with context and fair unbiased criticism. Every passage mentioned of evil. Unless yty is pro-beastiality, Infidelity etc.
I wonder when TyT will read Quran passages? Oh who am I kidding? Atheists of the democratic political side have some weird Stockholm Syndrome-like romanticism with Islam. And honestly you're type are just as bad as the Christians you boldly single out.
You'll get what you want then. No God for you.
Two girls sleep with their own dad by tricking him. Lets teach our kids that.
Oh yeah! I was thinking about just that tale!! Good 1! 😂😅😂
Don't forget about the rules of how to own other human beings as property. And the grape, and the child sacrifice, and the genocide, and the thought crimes, etc...
Freedom from religion is the most valuable freedom of all.
@Meat No one is forcing you to do that.
@Meat, it doesn’t matter what your opinion on it is. If a transgender woman wants to be referred to as a woman, you better refer to them as a woman.
It’s just basic human politeness and kindness.
@Meat, again, it doesn’t matter if they are born as a male. It’s just how they feel as a person. If you refer to them as what they were born as, then that’s just rude. It doesn’t matter if it’s stating facts. Saying you’re just stating facts doesn’t give an asshole pass.
Again, you don’t have to agree with them, but you should always be polite if you were having a conversation with someone who is trans.
@Meat, uh yes. That is rude. I myself don’t believe in god and I kinda find religion to be a rather outdated thing, but I would never mockingly insult a religious person right to their face.
If someone started preaching to me, I’ll hear what they have to say just to be polite. And if it gets out of hand, instead of telling them that their belief is brain dead, I’ll just say that I don’t care.
@Meat, all there is to say friend is that politeness doesn’t in anyways equal politically correct. It’s not even that much of a political issue. If a person who was born a male wants to be referred to as Jane, that’s what you should call them because it’s polite.
Again, if you ever encounter someone who is transgender, instead of giving them a 15 minute lecture on biology, just refer to them as their preferred pronouns. In the same way that if I encounter someone who is religious, instead of telling them that they are stupid, I’ll just bring up something else. If you were to call a transgender female ‘sir’, then that would make you a jerk, and if I were to call a religious person ‘a r*tard’, then that would make me a jerk.
That’s pretty much it. Refer to people how they want to be referred to as, even if you don’t agree with it, or it’s not scientifically correct. What matters is that everyone is kind to one another.
(Sorry for such late reply.)
CORRECTION: Fundamentalists take their religion LITERALLY... when it serves their immediate purpose. Not when it's inconvenient.
6:31 omg the Satan prayer bit made my day 😂😂
perhaps i misunderstand the phrase: separation of church and state in the constitution, i thought it meant that there are no bibles in public schools,no ten commandments in public buildings, no prayers in court, no church allowed to charge criminal offences stuff like that, are we just ignoring separation of church and state...seems that it was written in bigger words than the words "shall not be infringed "but yet, they pervert what that even means.
But you notice..."In God We Trust" on the all mighty dollar.
How about the guy who gifted a school program to post "In God We Trust" placards with those exact words, except in Arabic script? Golden 😆. Be careful what you ask for !
One of my buddies has a great saying that applies here: Your rules hurt you more than they hurt me because they're YOUR rules.
Since the meeting was in session and elected officials walked out, was he able to file a complaint to address that?
Bible school we always went over the same stories. Cause most of the Bible is filled with filthy stories.
Don't forget the part that calls for child murder, only your enemies' kids tho...God's got your back on that one.
So glad to not be an embarrassed Floridian for one shining moment.
Also, the Government should not be promoting Christianity,
due to the principle of Separation of Church and State.
My rights include the militant opposition to religion. Best believe it.
