People are making fun of it now but simple can be great. Time will tell. Kneejerk reactions are very revealing about a person. NHL logos and and names weren't exactly embraced right away either.
If they went sirens as in the mythological beasts i would like it a lot more, and i feel like it's a name that'll get clowned on a bit, like imagine being the sirens and getting hit with the i can't hear you hand to ear celly, brutal
I genuinely thought this was what they were going for in the name. Sirens were my favorite team identity because of that! I’m so heartbroken to find out, even the Wikipedia page confirms, that they intended “Sirens” to represent the “vibrant sights and sounds” of New York City. Such a massive disappointment. 😔
Conceptually I'm not bothered by the logo being of the first letter of the team rather than M, but they went with Frost that means it's a big giant F, which is a letter that holds nothing but negative connotations by itself lol
The fact that frost is the middle ground between water and ice and is what you get when it only starts to get cold... Commit, darn it to Snow or Water.. Heck even the Minnesota Sleet would be better then frost..
'Victoire' may mean victory, but it's also the name of the winged Victory seen on top of many monuments. I think it is quite fitting for a women hockey team.
Ah sorry guys, I'm going to have to disagree with most of you on this one. 18 months to come up with names and logos that are borderline average at best, and bad at worst. Boston Fleet - agreed, one of the stronger ones. The people of Hartford might argue that it's a warped Whalers logo though. Minnesota Frost - how many icicles do you know grow sideways? NY Sirens - buttery name, straight up bad logo. Ottawa Charge - if the Calgary Flames merged with the Cleveland Cavaliers and was drawn by a six-year old, you'd get this. Toronto Sceptres - aka the 'Toronto Taylor Swifts'. Remove the S from the monogram (keep the T and the orb) and it's actually a pretty cool logo. Montreal Victoire - easily the best logo and name. Somebody clearly drew inspiration from 'Goon 2: Last of the Enforcers'. Z mentioned that the Bardown team couldn't do any better ... but I bet they actually could?!
For the Toronto logo, I don't see how it's a sceptre with the S in it, so yeah take that out and you end up looking a lot like the logo from the Arenas jersey. Turn the S into a ribbon/banner and it makes so much sense.
Not to mention the Cleveland Charge are literally the G League team for the Cavs. These logos look mediocre in an era when even Class A baseball teams have pretty professional looking logos.
Cool detail, Montreal Victoire is actually a reference to the greek goddess Niké, representing victory and triumph. She is usually portrayed with wings, which explain the wings in the logo.
Especially since Ottawa is the federal capital of 🇨🇦. So if people are unhappy with the government wasting money on something, they'll use the team name in frustration. "Uggh the road needs repair again? Just another Ottawa charge."
So for me NewYork Sirens would've been better if it wasnt just a generic goal siren or emergency siren u always hear in NYC but the Siren the creature from Greek Mythlogy. I feel like u could've done some cool mascot lore with that.
The toronto logo looks like a secondary logo on the shoulderpads of a jersey. Toronto and ottawa got the short end of the stick, the others are okay with Montreal on top with the only name and logo that are good
I feel the Sabres are an example of a team name very similar to Sceptres that totally have become normal and accepted. Just give it time and the name will grow on people, I believe.
Toronto is known as The Queen City. It has Queen's Quay, Queen's Park, the Queen Elizabeth Way, Queen Street, and the Queensway - the arena they play in was known as The Royal Coliseum and is right beside The Horse Palace, and if the Queen's visits to Canada she can to Toronto the most...for me Sceptres fits.
Years ago some of us were conceptualizing womens hockey team names for San Jose. Sirens came up as the mythological creature and had a close tie to the Sharks. No way San Jose would get a PWHL team so soon but I think it is a missed opportunity to have the San Jose Sirens
I agree with your no. 1 pick, obviously 😉 Also, because the colour scheme echoes that of other Montreal teams: Canadiens, Alouettes, Expos (gone but not forgotten).
The only thing I know is I cheer passionately for a team named after a leaf. These names will cook and feel natural over time lol we gotta give it a chance
Very disappointed they didn't mention about the New York logo/name 1. It's the same colours as their WNBA team, so there's instant brand recognition in the city. People could see this and assume it's another women's sports team. Also tons of cross-sport marketing incoming 2. A siren in Greek mythology is a creature half bird and half woman who lured sailors to destruction by the sweetness of her song. This wasn't mentioned on the website, but neither was any connection between sirens and police or other first responders. I think it fits women's hockey far better than that would.
1) Boston 2) Toronto 3) Ottawa (it might be a poor copy of the Flames logo, but that's still a pretty good logo once you ignore the "paw prints") 4) Minnesota 5) Montreal (too busy - they tried too hard, IMO) 6) New York

Shout out to all of the teams, though. First season was awesome! EDIT: I do see that others have mentioned the Cavaliers as I scroll down.
The logos feel very secondary. They would be cool on a hat, but as a logo for the team? Not as much. Hopefully we get something more to attach to for the actual jerseys because right now it's a little underwhelming. And there's a distinct lack of animals.
As a Montrealer, our name really suck... the media headline in french will be "Victoire de la Victoire" or "Défaite de la Victoire" that's make no fucking sense haha. But the logo is awesome! I really like the color too.
Sirens and Charge logos both suck. As a Minnesota fan I think the frost logo is just meh. Not sure how I feel about the sceptres. Love the victoire and the fleet logos. I think Z had it right. Ottawa sixth, then NY, then Toronto, Minnesota, Boston, Montreal
Yeah, was hoping they’d go with Valkyries for Minny. Not a huge fan of effectively just a stylized letter as a logo. Though it is better than a word mark
Fleet also works as a name for a female team in particular, since ships are referred to as female so a fleet would be a group of "shes", just like a woman's team
tbh as a graphic designer this is a dream job, and this was not done with love by whoever got the contract ( an nyc firm?). It feels like it was given to an intern. I'm from montreal too and tbh, the logo is average at best. The name is ridiculous as in french we use victoire for wins, so in the media it'll be : so the Wins get one more win! or The Wins are winless and are looking for their first win. It's gonna sound veryyyyy stupid.
New York Sirens name and logo says “Come and watch us play on Long Island, not in NYC”. Points tho for the echoey logo, a nod to the super sonic scream that superhuman sirens (good or evil) are portrayed as having in comics and movies.
Agree...I think Frost is underrated. Colors are great, name is great...and for nitpicking the logo...almost EVERY single one is reminiscent of something. We've been on this planet too long. All ideas are derivative at this point.
Frost is the perfect kind of name for making puns and slogans and that definitely went into the decision. MN's men's hockey team is the Wild, which is ridiculous and does not even mean anything, but lends itself to the same naming style for the same reasons.
We should acknowledge that a lot of the team names we've rooted for our whole lives are probably not great, we're just used to them. That said, sorry they let you down Ottawa.

The names are logos are fine. But, there were two strong fan favorites that I would have much preferred for them to do: The Boston Banshees, and the Minnesota Valkyries. Boston is still my absolute favorite and The Fleet wasn't a bad choice, but maaaan Banshees would have been fun. As for the Sirens, I am only disappointed in the name because i was REALLY hoping that would be the name of a Seattle expansion team in the future (I mean come on, having the Kraken and the Sirens in the same city?) .
I like that The Fleet is trying to differentiate themselves from The Bruins. People associated the Pride with the Bruins so much because they had their colors, similar bear/cat logo, played at the bs practice arena. I think it'll be good for the Fleet to be their own thing
Montreal definitely has the best team name and logo in my opinion. Edit: at 4:41, I don't know if Minnesota or anyone can used that as a team nickname for them. Because the Purple People Eaters, was the nickname given the NFL's Minnesota Vikings in the late '60s and '70s, due to their dominant defence (Except in the Super Bowl of course).
Very interesting to hear the different perspectives. I personally think the Sirens name is fine. I'm not in love with it, though I'm sure it'll grow on me. The Sirens' logo, on the other hand I think is great and honestly the best of all six.
If some teams can be called Knights (Central Florida), Scarlet Knights (Rutgers), Black Knights (Army) and Golden Knights (Las Vegas NHL), why can't you have Reign and Purple Reign?
It's meant to be a reference to Boston being a "hub" city, as well as a reference to the Boston Common, which is the oldest city park in the US. The Common to Boston what Central Park is to Manhattan. If you look at the Wikipedia page for Boston Common, particularly the images, it'll make sense.

Ottawa's City logo is absolutely beautiful and roughly the right shape. Turn the towers into lightning bolts, cut a lightning bolt shape out of the O at the 10 o'clock with angles on BOTH sides. (heck use the pinking shears to do it.) - still copying someone else's homework, but would not have looked like a flames logo.
Sirens and charge need to rebrand the mythological creature and a charging army respectively. Kind of wild how this is what they came up with after 18 months lol. The only way are solid
I think NY Sirens shouldve gone with the mythical version of sirens mixed with gargoyle-esque skyscraper statues. Big city, fancy architecture, mythology.
They're all a little meh. Feels like they were all created by the same guy with not much creativity. I do enjoy the idea of the sirens logo though even if it's not amazing.
I think The Fleet logo and jerseys are the best, the leagues overall is good, Boston 10/10. Can’t unsee the Hartford Whalers when you turn the Fleet logo sideways 😂
Ottawa's logo legit looks exactly like Mangiapane's drawing of the Flames logo that they put on a shirt. Hilariously bad logo choice.
The fuckin' triangles on the back of it look like the speed lines on a kids drawing. Sonic the Hedgehog rolling around logo.
I knew it looked familiar 😂🤣

Half bird/ half woman that guided sailors thru her song. I thought that too, but i wonder if it was an intentional double meaning.
@@johnm2994Definitely seems intentional to me. Really a triple meaning...with the goal horn and NYPD/FDNY tribute thrown in as well.
I never even considered it would be about police sirens, now I like the name way worse.
I'm surprised they didn't mention the mythology aspect at all. That's the biggest strength of the name.
I liked Sirens more before I heard what it was supposed to be.
I thought it was like Sirens the mythical creatures from the sea.
Not police sirens.
Yeah, I can’t believe they totally missed (or ignored) it.
oh that's so stupid
Remember when TD Garden was the FleetCenter? Nice little bonus for the Boston Fleet moniker in my opinion.

Armada is already a team
@@mike8099m oh are they in the PWHL? Didn’t think so
@@hughjanis3480 ok let me try this another way. It is trademarked! Hope that helps.
@@mike8099m also why I added “or something”, hope that helps
When I heard “siren” my thought is the mythological creatures that lured sailors
Why couldn't Minnesota go with something actually cool like the Valkyrie? It's just so obvious!
I wonder if New York and Ottawa can get refunds from whoever created those atrocities?
They're all a little meh. Feels like they were all created by the same guy with not much creativity. I do enjoy the idea of the sirens logo though even if it's not amazing.
Wait why is there a NEW bar down channel? Did I miss something?
They were not separate from tsn before
The sceptors logo looks like something you would see in a doctors office. Something to do with medicine LOVE the sceptors though
I think The Fleet logo and jerseys are the best, the leagues overall is good, Boston 10/10. Can’t unsee the Hartford Whalers when you turn the Fleet logo sideways 😂
The Sirens logo reminds me of a early 00's school PowerPoint word art
Sirens are kinda evil mermaids. Why wouldn’t they go with that. Would have been way cooler.
The top of Toronto’s logo needs to be the CN tower
The Ottawa logo reminds me of the Cleveland Cavaliers
Ottawa’s logo looks like the Calgary Flames logo in an unlicensed NHL video game 😂
french Canada actually kindof agrees with Jesse to an extent...... about Victoire and about Patrick Laine. ;)
