I would like to take this opportunity to remind you all to NOT harass the people Danny talks about. The author of the looney toons fanfiction has been getting harassed like crazy, and it's just not okay. This is not ever what Danny wants, and doing so puts an awful reputation on him and it's just overall absurd. This is really disappointing behavior and I wouldn't be surprised if Danny has to take the video down due to the harassment.
That explains the new edit of the video. That's sad cause those comments were fire. It was a good romp... Be mature people.

I uploaded chapter one on Wattpad for them and after a while I forgot about it. I started chapter two and now I have seven long chapters but am too nervous to upload it because then it's like admitting that I started taking it too seriously. Taking into comparison the fanfic on the video, you can definetly have a gut feeling that the John Cena story was more than likely made out of joke, ain't no way it was serious if it didnt had the "I cant see John Cena" or "AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENAAA", that hints that the fic was made to not be taken seriously.
Its hard to distinguish bad fanfics with joke ones, but i guess the best guess when a fanfic is bad, is if they try to make it serious , but with poor grammar, plotholes, extremely short chapters and so on. To be honest, i think many if not, most begin their journey with a vague idea of how to write a story and as such don't have all the ideas they want to put into the story

I once wrote an explicit Don Quixote fanfiction.
I was 18 when I wrote it, and had become utterly obsessed with the book that summer. Enamored to the point where I built my own cardboard armor, and had my own night oc character I named Sir Saberon de Galaxia (knowledge of the galaxy), also he was the Knight of The Imaginative Pencil! I would galavant about as my character across parks, and my armor was once torn to shreds by some nasty little goblins. I joked for a long time that I took the opposite of the book's intended message to heart, and that I am the modern Don Quixote. As an autistic, and gay, artist, and young trans man, who certainly didn't fit in at school or home, the characters in the media I consumed became my dearest friends, mentors, and my first loves. Now that I have real friends my escapism isn't quite so utterly encapsulating, and I don't need to rely on my imaginary friends quite so heavily to cope with my dreery and conveluted existence. 🧡
This honestly made me tear up a little. As a fellow queer neurodivergent kid who found solace in fiction, I can definitely relate. Hope you're doing well

As someone who frequently reads fanfiction and has for years, these are called crackfics, they are not serious the writer and 99% (1% being confused people who don’t read much fanfic/ just having not come across any crackfic before) are reading and writing these as a joke. edit: took the part out about the conversation since it got taken out of the video
we really gotta stop using the term 'crack fic.' you explained it exactly as it has been used, but i don't think a lot of people realize that the 'crack' refers to addicts. it's really not appropriate or okay to use that word to denotate ~craziness. we gotta do better in fandom

A) The fanfiction is addictive, like a drug. Particularly, this tag applies to very short ficlets with many chapters that can be read very quickly, but can more generally be applied to any fic that makes the reader crave more.
B) The idea behind the fanfic is so outlandish it could not possibly be conceived by the author unless they were using a mind-altering substance
However, the use of the term “crack” as a description in fanfic and general fandom speak started in the 80s, when larger fan communities were just starting to form. Because these fanclubs were niche and there was no internet, getting ahold of niche material was difficult and prohibitively expensive. Much like drugs. So, it became kind of a joke.
“You what’s cheaper and easier to get ahold of than tapes of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman? Crack.”
Because of this, we often called hobby materials like tapes, figurines, and posters “crack” or “contraband”. My AV club started a “crack library” where we would all put our watched tapes so other people in the club could “check them out” instead of having to buy their own.
This adaptability soon gave way to the first crackfics: sometimes written transcripts with descriptions of everything that happens in a particular episode- especially if it was about a show that only aired on cable or couldn’t be found/recorded on tape, and fanfiction to fill in the gaps between seasons when we were without our “fix”.
It’s amazing how different and common the word has become since then. Language is fascinating.

A lot of people talk about how the fanfiction on wattpad is terrible, and a lot of it is. But some people miss the part where a lot of the worst fanfics are written as a joke, to be funny. And some people are in the mood to laugh, and so they ead something like this that they find funny. My friend and I are currently doing it ourselves.
And sometimes the fanfiction is just bad when it comes to grammar and spelling, but then it's usually written by a child that ix just practicing and doing it for fun, and it makes me sad to see them get hate for it.
I mean i started writing when i was like 13, and my first wattpad fanfiction that i posted was absolutely awful (and unfortunately it is currently still my most popular fic), but i've gotten a lot better! :D

It can be pretty difficult to tell if a fanfic is a joke (crack fic) but it tends to be more common among more obscure ships like the John Cena and Bill Nye one.
I think writing style can be a good indicator of whether or not it's a crack fic since many of them have relatively short chapters, have poor grammar, and use absurd references. However, there are some that are taken more seriously and from an outside perspective look like normal fanfics.
I hope you check out more crack fanfics as someone who is incapable of writing serious fanfics. I would recommend AO3 since it has a better filtering system that allows you to look for specific tags, characters, and fandoms.
Also love that you mention Harry Potter fanfics as normal fanfics when that is the only fandom I've written crack fics for lol

when I found archive of our own I thought it was the most disturbed place ever because of the amount of fanfictions that disappeared when you filtered out the super gross/dark/generally messed up tags. now I'm older and wiser and I realize Wattpad has all of that, but it's a surprise because they have no tagging system and most of the people there are too young to think about actually adding warnings. I made the switch after reading a completely normal fanfiction that derailed into shipping, ABDL and accidental incest

The lack of a tag system is horrible. One time I was looking for bad Overwatch fanfiction with my friends so I just typed in "Hot Overwatch P0rn" and the first result was "A Child At Overwatch".
@@GenderlessP i remember i looked up Overwatch Gency on there once and i saw that fanfiction. i was looking for what i had typed (of course) but i remember getting really invested in the Child at Overwatch one. I'm assuming now that no matter what you look for, as long as it's Overwatch related, you'll see that Child at Overwatch fanfic. Yours is really unfortunate though

horrifying forces of nature is right i have read some fucked up shit on ao3 and i've also read fics that took days to get through and gave me entirely new perspectives on life. there's a fic which inspired me to learn piano (im quite good now), fics where i learned communication and emotional skills that i wasn't taught by my parents, fics which taught me self-love and self-improvement, and also fics which made me want to pour bleach directly into my brain. fortunately, the tagging system means you can actually avoid the awful ones if you need to, unlike wattpad. i wouldn't be studying chemistry if not for ao3, but also i'd be able to keep a straight face in maths when there's an [a, b, 0] vector. so, yk, pros and cons.
@@toothfairy10133 the realest comment, fanfic can be the most amazing or horrifying stuff. I have fics that still follow me a decade later because they were so funny or well written. But nothing stays with you like the fic that taught you what snuff meant. I didn't need that knowledge at 11, ao3 has a tagging system that is godsent comparatively.
I once accidentally stumbled on a "guy fucks another guys eye" fic because i thought the tag eye sex meant like sexual stares 😭😭😭

this is 100% accurate. i've read life altering fanfics on ao3. and also absolutely vile and disgusting fanfics that completely traumatized me. the ppl in the replies are right, learning how to properly use ao3 tags is important!!
if i had a nickel for every time danny started reading a fic and had to deal with the pain of finding out it's been discontinued before the actual end i'd have two nickels. which isn't much but it's weird that it happened twice to a guy that claims to not really like fanfic in the first place

As a wattpad local I can confirm it’s an absolute Wild West of a place. Also, seeing the disappointment of Danny finding out the fic was discontinued mirrored my own. Yes I still actively write and read on wattpad no I will not tell you the name of my account.

Ah this brings back memories. in highschool my friends had a yearly competition where we had to fine the weirdest, most off fanfic during the end of year wrap up. the only prize was the knowledge that you had found the most awful thing they'd ever seen.
I won every year, and it was usually a harry potter fic that did it.
i used to read hp fics on wattpad (there was one i really loved called brave, it was my first introduction to the concept of adhd and i ended up confused because i related to the character a suspicious amount) and so i started getting fics recommended to me. one of the most horrifying ones, even to my 12 year old mind who had Seen Some Shit that still concerns me today, was the snape/hermione fic that appeared one day. part of me had wanted to read it just to know what the fuck was up but in the end that was actually the one and only time in my 18 years of life that fear and disgust won out over morbid curiousity and i never read it.
The Harry Potter ones are always the worst. Did you see the one where Harry bangs mcgonnagal and she DIES from the orgasm?? Also read My Immortal if you haven’t somehow, it’s truly awful but I love it
