I appreciate Adrienne mentioning that these types of people can suffer from depression/anxiety. Some of my closest friends have depression/anxiety. However, as much as I want to be empathetic and there for them, it's difficult and really affects my mood to always feel like I have to be there for them. I love and care for them of course, but my mental health is also on the line. So I've had to limit my exposure to them. I think I need to set healthy boundaries and care for my own mental health too.

I agree with Adrienne and Loni - it's important to address a friend's negative behaviour as soon as you notice the pattern. Sometimes the friend may not realise, and you not calling them up on it may make them think you're okay with their attitude. Like Loni said, you want to preserve the friendship, so honesty (and kind delivery) is key.
I stopped being friends with my best friends of over 10 years because of this! After a while it feels draining, and negativity in forms of jokes is also draining.
Chileeee my whole family is like this & I do my best to set boundaries and keep distance because I’m raising my 3 kids to NOT soak in that energy. I keep it cute & minimal with certain people. Nope. Can’t do it! ✌🏼

Facts! I've actually known a few people like this and usually there is some mental health issues or even a learned behavior from their childhood. I even knew a person who would be in a great mood and their mother would call and always put him in a negative pessimistic mood immediately.
No not everybody is like that tho some people are just genuinely negative people. Which are known as Debbie downers in reality and I hate it I’ve seen it. And there could be nothing wrong with them mentally emotionally psychologically etc.😐 It’s just something most people have to consider in general unfortunately. 😕🤔
I slowly distance myself from them. I had to literally tell an old friend that I can not longer be her garbage can to dumb all her negativity on me. At that time I was dealing with my own garbage. Slowly I started ignoring her calls and provided distance. Most times I check the negative thinking/speaking and behavior at the door 🤷🏾♀️. If they don’t get it then I slowly distance myself to protect my peace ☮️
Going through this situation and its hard to distance myself because i feel bad . Sometimes i just wont answer the phone but she is soooooo draining omg !

Do not ever feel guilty for putting yourself and peace first. I had this same problem because I have a healing and good heart. I found the more I would try to heal someone the more my own energy was being destroyed. Remember you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you. So if you can’t distance yourself slowly from toxic people pray and ask for God the strengthen you. Now at 31, I don’t even feel a way. I cut folks off at the smallest threat of my peace

I think there are certain people that love to be caught up in the funk of being down… I actually had a friend that every time something like a disagreement between friends happened it would always be like “ IM DONE “ because of how that person made them feel and guilt trips and all kinds of stuff… but isn’t willing to see their own actions and it’s like ? We’re grown and allowed to not always see things the same… I’m not gonna keep apologizing or having to reassure you that there isn’t any weird energy or negative attitude coming towards you… like the kind of people that always WANT to see if there is a problem are the ones that are exhausting to me ! The old folks say “ you’ll never understand up , if you ain’t never been down “ ! I've cut that person off. It got way too much for me! I recommended therapists, gave resources etc and I learned that you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. The same person would also project and make me feel insecure and unsure of myself at my own events like a Christmas get together or birthday by asking why they're there or saying they're bored or we're too young to be staying in despite actually needing to be at home for set reasons
