If you really look at it, the lifespan of the clones has been a lifetime war the four years of the clone wars gave them all the practice they needed for asymmetrical warfare. They were always fighting, a numerically superior enemy, had to always adapt, and always usually being the smaller guy on the field. Palpatine‘s greatest mistake so far is underestimating how many clones were willing to become for a lack of a better term, domestic terrorists.

I see this as a bigger problem since you have units like the bad batch no longer under control. Even ten years in the future this is a problem since they can still be used to train the next generation of rebels. The rebel commandos won't be nearly as good or well equipped but they'll be unpredictable and good at improvising which is even more dangerous. On top of that some of the clones that left could still work as mercenaries before transitioning to some other related field of assistance.

My guess is, they didn't change the codes because they were so engraved in the republic military, which the empire inherited, that to change them would case too many problems the empire didn't want to deal with. They had no reason to change them... at least then. However, by return of the jedi, it appears that the empire realized keeping these codes was a bad idea and might have started to phase them out with new ones. But with a massive empire, it won't change over night so when a shuttle came to drop off supplies and techs on the forest moon of Endor they could still get clearance even though they were using these older codes. They still check out.

Scapegoats. Papa Palpatine is shown to rely on a bit of controlled chaos in order to solidify control and maintain his leash on the galaxy. He's beloved and trusted by most(humans usually) because he's seen as a great defender and even as a provider, it fosters absolute loyalty to him and his vision.
Its only when that chaos is not in his control that he involves himself in rectifying the matter, as with Maul and Savage. As with his offer to Luke.
Palpy was playing hundreds of simultaneous chess games in his head, so to speak, and he intended to win all (or most) of them. Odds are against him winning all of them, and some of those losses were a bit more important than others, which voided out several wins.

Sir Francis Drake was a British Admiral in the Spanish British war. His discovery of the Sir Francis Drake channel lead to the defeat of the Spanish armada. As a reward, Queen Victoria knighted him and then basically fired him. Given that Drake and his men knew nothing but naval warfare for 20 years, they applied their skills as pirates. Funnily enough the British never took their flags back. Leading to unsuspecting British ships to get into boarding range and not knowing it until it was too late.

Coincidence? I think not. The idea and practice of continuing codes and protocols from the Clone Wars era Galactic Republic to the Imperial and Galactic Civil War era is consistent with something that had just recently been discussed by the RUclips channel of "Oceanliner Designs" in which it is discussed the reason why a "modern" ocean liner (i.e., the RMS Titanic) would see its helmsman be ordered to turn hard-over to port in order to turn the ship starboard. That reason being that in the eras preceding the age of steam-powered shipping, (perhaps even the latter days of sail,) in order to turn a ship, (for example to the left,) the rudder's tiller had to be pushed to the right in order to move the rudder in the opposite direction so as to be able to maneuver the ship in the coinciding direction (left.) By the time steam engines had been developed and the helm wheel was mechanically improved to not only enable a single person to turn a massive ten-story, multiple-ton-weighing rudder, but also be able to turn the wheel in the same direction as desired of the ship, the doctrine of ordering a helm turn to port in order to change the ship's direction to starboard had been established for so long that changing the protocol would likely cause more problems than solve. This same concept can be applied to the transfer of protocols and procedures from the Galactic Republic era to the Imperial Era.

While it wasn't in the Legends lore, perhaps it's something that we will see added to Mouse lore?
I would think that a lot of things could be passed off as "Separatist holdouts" or other malcontent types, because if it became known that the clones were being screwed over, that could generate sympathy on the worlds that the clones liberated or defended.
One last thought...we don't hear much, if anything, about the clones in eps 4-6...what happened to them? Perhaps they left for the Unknown Region sometime ~10 BBY. This would keep them out of the Thrawn books... just a wild, and probably wrong, off the wall thought.

I think it’d be interesting to see a Halo Wars 2 Banished situation, where the Empire were behind the scenes fighting a 2 way war, a more open propaganda driven front against the mainstream Rebel Alliance, but on the other hand a guerrilla warfare type situation against the clones where it’s not so wide scale but they’re winning a lot more battles against the Empire

The sad thing is that we see going forward in the timeline that the Clones themselves are completely forgotten by the galaxy, all the galaxy remembers is the war but not those who fought in it. They will make an honourable stand against the Empire but there is no defeating the Empire at this time, its too big and too strong for them to come out winning.
They will suffer a massive defeat in the Clone Rebellion that it will break them, if someone like Rex gave up the fight then it must be devastating because Rex is not the type to give up, not after all he has been through and lost......So what happened at the Clone Rebellion must have struck him to his core scarring him more than Order 66 did.
All we can hope is that some of the Clones we have come to love and cherish are able to survive the Empire and just live their lives free from their tyranny. Maybe some do join Rebel Cells to train them to fight the Empire but until that fateful battle at Scarif there is no turning the tide yet.

I think this really speaks volumes about Palpatine's arrogance. When it comes to the Jedi, he couldn't really deny their power since they had forced the Sith into hiding for a thousand years, and that forced understanding made him act more strategically. But as soon as it came to areas where he wasn't forced to think about things he seems to routinely underestimate them. After all, he, the grand master of the dark side -made- the clone army, surely he would know if they were a threat, surely he would be so terrifying that no rebel cells would dare stand up to him, surely these rebels would be too weak against his mighty death star that he's safe personally building his office on in and having it exposed in a giant tower on the surface.
Palpatine's greatest enemy wasn't the Jedi, like so many other Sith before him, it was his own arrogance.

I’d like to imagine an ending scene involving the elder troopers looking proudly upon the first uniformed regular rebel alliance troopers standing in formation. Maybe include some details of military traditions and battle cries to be carried for when the war officially comes. This proposed scene would serve as the farewell transition, one where the franchise recognizes the retirement of the clones being featured as the soldiers of democracy before the next generation of soldiers who are just as eager to fight for the rightful cause. The scene will go black before you hear a collective…

The Clones might have been another, if small reason, why the Empire abandoned most capital ships. Sure, knowing operational codes helps to infiltrate Imperial installations and ships, but the damage they can do is limited. If the crew a Star Destroyer notices an infiltration, the sheer number of Stormtroopers on board dooms them. Not to mention that the clones know little on how to get around in one. Sure, they might do that better than a Rebel that was never on a military ship, but it will still be limited. But a Clone that can teach others how a Venator or Acclimator is build and works in detail? A nightmare.
And there is one question. What would a Venator mean for the Rebellion and others? A priceless mobile Base that can threaten the workings of an entire sector if they station fighters and bombers with a hyperdrive. One Venator could sent out several attacks at the same time. Depending on the size of the opposition a Venator can send out up to 40 attacks with 10 fighters or bombers at the same time. If used correctly, the Empire would not be able to find the Venator, but it would bind a lot of Imperial resources.
A single Clone could plan the attack, lead an infiltration team that temporarily disables a few key systems and lead an assault to take over a Venator. Repair the disabled systems and gone is the ship.
Remember I said it's a small actor, but it meshes well with the Emperor's 'bigger is better' mentality and the Tarkin doctrine.

The Empire is likely to not acknowledge a full-scale rebellion in any capacity. It didn't even do it with the actual rebellion. And the thing is, the Clones are a ticking time bomb for the empire just as much as they were for Palpatine and the Jedi. The ticking time bomb is them realizing they are a slave army, and will eventually flat out refuse orders. At this point, we've seen a clone called "Wilco" refuse an order from a superior. Wilco is short for Will Comply. That clones entire personality was complying with orders that his brothers gave him that name, and he REFUSED an order that he thought was wrong.
Tarkin is correct in a New Hope, by that point they had swept away all vestiges of the Old Republic. Those vestiges also include the Clones, because Clones are soldiers of a "shining" democracy, and not an authoritarian empire, they're too honorable and un-corruptible to fit into Imperial society.

It *might* be that his promotion wasn't gone through yet *officially* but for all intents and purposes Rex should be Commander Rex. Especially if Vader never found out he removed his chip.

The Empire might be making a song and dance about decommissioning the clones in the more populated areas of the Galaxy, but face it -- the ass end of the Outer Rim's still going to get "used" equipment for a long time to come, including clone troopers. Not to mention there are *still* all the clones-in-training, the younger ones were were still kids when the cloning program was cancelled. I think it's far more likely that most clones will be reassigned to the Outer Rim (and maybe Thrawn manages to recruit a few legions' worth to the Unknown Regions) -- out of sight of the more snobby Imperials. Why waste perfectly good military personnel after all?
