  • Shocking alligator compilation including a gator fight, death of a gator, a one-eyed gator trail crossing, and a new gator life close up at Lake Hollingsworth and Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Florida. One gator defending territory chased another while lunging and hissing, leaving birds shrieking in distress lasting less than 10 minutes. Both alligators weathered the storm and went their separate ways in the end. A one-eyed gator battleworn with scars from past injuries took a snooze on the trail before making a labored walk across. Without realizing it at first I watched an alligator die in December 2023. I thought it was a lethargic gator with a slow metabolism responding to the cold temps. When it laid on its side in the water with eyes glazed over, I thought something else was up. After raising its snout to the sky before submerging for the last time, I waited awhile and was left wondering what had happened. I returned 5 days later to see its body floating in the same spot I had left it. There was no apparent injury and seemed to have had as natural a death as possible. Lastly, I observed my first babies of the season. Only days old, the one in this video was my favorite...resting on a cypress knee in what looked like a most uncomfortable position, but to each his/her own! :)

Do you think that was 2 males fighting over territory? The fight didn't last long, but I'm sure they could do a lot of damage in a short amount of time! Can you tell the males from the females? I've never been interested in alligators but the more I watch your videos of them, the more they fascinate me. They really are quite amazing. It's always nice waking up Saturday mornings and watching your videos! Thank you for the alligator video🐊🐊🐊🐊🐊😊

Thank you for watching my gator montage! 😁 I’m so glad you’re enjoying learning more about these prehistoric survivors. You’ve asked an excellent question - so difficult to tell males and females apart - body size and snout shape are the two main determiners. Males will grow up to 4 feet longer than females. Females will generally have narrower bodies and snouts, but unless you see them side by side it’s difficult to compare. I always have an easier time seeing the difference during mating season when you’ll often see them swimming together. I tend to think these were both males because of how aggressive the fight was. Have a wonderful weekend! 😁
