- An extended cut of the First Doctor's regeneration, using clips from The Tenth Planet, An Adventure in Space and Time, and Twice Upon a Time.
I know the hat removal shot is bad lmao I just had to include something there for continuity.
I've always been impressed by that first regeneration. The use of that overpowering flood light masks the transition really well, leaving just enough visible of either to get a sense he's changing. It's not perfect, particularly if you focus on the nose, but for 1966 it's really good.
It must've been a shock for viewers in 1966. Recasting characters has always been a common practice in filmmaking, but to actually weave it in to the story?
It wasn't, they used a faulty mixing desk that flared out when used, and thought that would be perfect for this.
A good mixture of footage from The Tenth Planet, An Adventure In Space And Time and Twice Upon A Time.
The main reason why is because most of the footage from The Tenth planet is lost and all we have left of the lost footage is the BBC's recreation of it in Twice Upon a time.
Kind of wish we had some footage of power of the dalek
In story part of the reason why 1 regenerated here was because back in the daleck master plan he was hit with energy that caused him to age faster
and the damage the cybermen did. This first doctor was only about 250/300 years old, by time lord lore very young, so there had to be a reason for him to look like an old man. That was not the best I've seen. But not bad, nice work!

@@tailsknuxfan101 Nah, he just despises anything that's "SJW propaganda". This includes every single frame of the Chibnall era (obviously) and bits of Moffat as well. I'm pretty sure for some dumb reason he probably thought the OC was talking about Twice Upon a Time, hence his reaction. He's an idiot.
The thing I hate most about him is that he calls anyone who expresses an opinion different to his a "dumbass", consistently. Not only does he think his opinion is fact, he acts as if it's the most obvious fact in the universe and anyone who doesn't acknowledge it is mentally challenged. Seems like a nice bit of projection to me.
Various old-series regenerations if done with the new series regeneration effects:
1: Polly and Ben probably have to jump away from the Doctor when he starts to shoot energy.
2: Maybe not much different. His regeneration could be what damaged the force field generator (something mentioned as needing repair at the end of "The Three Doctors" when he got full use of the TARDIS back).
3: At the very least, the Brig would definitely be less blase about it.
4: Adric and crew would have to back away, as the Doctor would probably begin to shoot off the energy as soon as the Watcher began merging with him.
5: Peri is already a good distance clear from the Doctor when he changed, so that one probably wouldn't change much.
6: Two possibilities. Either he changes before The Rani boards the TARDIS, or he changes after The Rani leaves when she charges one of her underlings with bringing the Doctor.
7: Probably would do a number on the morgue's refrigerator. But the guard may still be unaware while watching _Frankenstein._
Im thinking that with each regeneration, the energy it releases it gets stronger and stronger

i recall that the energy release was due to buildup from preventing the regeneration for as long as possible, causing a catastrophic explosion outward…the earlier ones were quick deaths instead of him dragging it on

I like to think that the reason The Doctor was more confused and scared of regeneration the first few times and acted so passive-aggressive with his previous selves was because it was so new for him. This was his first regeneration, so it might as well felt like dying to him. The Second Doctor and The Third Doctor could never agree on anything and always call each other things like "my replacement", which must be what it felt like the first few times.
Future incarnations just seem a lot more accepting of regeneration in general and I think that's just down to experience tbh. No matter what though, they always still bicker xD
Of course, we now know The Doctor has regenerated many times before, but even then his memories were wiped so from the First Doctor's perspective here it's his first-ever time regenerating. Scary stuff.

The sound is the TARDIS doing something connected to the regeneration. The implication seems to have been that somehow the TARDIS was either helping or carrying out the regeneration. For all we knew in those days, it may even have been the Doctor's own invention to prolong his life and not be the normal thing for his people to do.
Whatever the explanation, it's a funky sound.
