Seriously, the best way I’ve ever been able to describe big finish and how amazing they are is simply that big finish fix everything. I don’t know of any major issue of doctor who that they haven’t been able to work their magic on, they let 6 actually carry out his character arc properly, they let 7 fight things other than candy monsters and robot clowns, and let 8 actually have not only a series full stop but the series that he deserves. Past that they’ve apparently filled in the gaps between missy and the new master, given 6 a proper regeneration and given pretty much every character you could look at and say ‘It’s a crime they didn’t get their own show’ and given them their own show.
This is now the definitive scene for 6’s regen. No questions about it. And I know people have made their own scenes based on the events of “Brink of Death” but this is the correct visualization in my opinion.
I think the problem with that idea being a general practice is it borders on viewing each incarnation of the Doctor as "seperate" characters, rather than one overarching evolving character. The whole theme of the show is change, and the growth and evolution that comes with it. To risk framing them as seperate characters, rather than the same character changing, also risks framing that change as a bad thing; in that the past version of someone "dies," thus grieving change rather than celebrating it. My only real issue with Big Finish in general is that they really take the hard stance that each incarnation of the Doctor is a seperate character rather than one evolving character, and therefore very frequently asserts that in their audio stories. This leads to things I think I personally dislike, such as very regular and frequent multi-Doctor stories (which I think should be saved for really significant occasions in the story, rather than taking the piss out of it by having it happen all the bloody time), or another incarnation of the Doctor casually popping up in another Doctor's story out of nowhere for an extended cameo every other week. Moreover, I think it helps assert this idea that change is tragic or bad, rather than just another part of the Doctor's continuing and evolving life. _(that said, all of Paul McGann's audios slap and should be listened to)_
@@MrMarsFargo I wholeheartedly agree. It’s sort of the case with Russel framing the 10th doctor’s regeneration as a sort of death like actual death rather than change?

You know, I've had a theory for a while that the way a time lord regenerates depends on how they die. I think radiation poisoning causes the regeneration to be sort of "scrambled". Like in the episode where the 6th doctor regenerates, it's like his face has negative exposure and has green and gray bleeding out, almost like his body is forcing the radiation out of his body, and at the time in classic who that sort of effect during regeneration wasn't common. I also think this is why the 10th doctor's regeneration is so violent, he received an enormously higher dose of radiation, one that would even damage the DNA of a time lord. So as a reaction, his body practically exploding, forcing regeneration out of his body along with the raw radiation. I think this is why the TARDIS is badly damaged; it can't handle that much radiation so it crash landed to fix the damage. Feel free to correct any errors I made, I'm always open to new information :)
Nope. You’re spot on. Everything you said was right, the only thing that would be inconsistent with your theory would be why the Master has numerous colors and exploding out of him when he was regenerating after being shot? @@alirezaomrani7650I always thought they had different types of regeneration depending on the damage suffered. Such as Old Age causing light, short regenerations (as the case with 1st, war, and 11th) which dont do any damage to the Tardis, and it only crashed on 12th after his regeneration because he didn’t even know how to really fly it. Maybe no energy would be spent with other types of slow deaths such as 3rd when he took in enough radiation to slowly kill his cells, but not enough to end him where he stood if he was human, 4th when he shattered all the bones in his body, and possibly suffered internal damage when he fell from a satellite dish, 5th when he died from poison that was slowly killing him from the inside, 7th when he was shot, put on knockout gas, and had to regenerate later than usual, and 9th when he regenerated from absorbing the time vortex, which acted like radiation damage. Lets all appreciate on how he made this so incredible to see a recreation of the 6th doctor regeneration. I also like how you edited some scenes already there especially with the tardis landing
Its amazing the way it all syncs up with the footage you've used. It genuinely looks like something they filmed at times- the only giveaway is Colin's voice sounding older
Colin sounding older is no problem at all because we don't know how long after Trial of a Time Lord that this took place. Technically, the Doctor hadn't had his first meeting with Mel so if we assume that the Mel in TOATL left him at some point and then her younger self encountered him for the first time later, he could have been around for years, maybe even centuries considering how long the Doctor can live in a single incarnation.
This is really well done! The composting in this is great, from subtle stuff of matching costumes and replacing sets for the TARDIS. All very seamless and well done. Great work! :D
Having just listened to this box set, it’s amazing seeing you bring it to life and fully connect it with the regeneration we got on screen. Thank you so much!
This really packs an emotional wallop, doesn't it?! Just look at the amount of positivity this has prompted. That's rare on here to say the least. This is definitive and canon! Outstanding work! 👏👏
I hope whoever has these skills can give us an edit of the ENTIRE series from start to finish, with every missing episode included as well via this type of detailed work, in order, along with the new regen scenes. That'd be the dream.
Dude, this is amazing! I love the Last Adventure and how it finally gave Sixie a proper send-off in The Brink of Death; that final monologue gets me every time. I've seen other attempts to sync the audio to footage, and they were great, so no disrespect to them, but what you've done here...this is perfection! I got serious chills when the ghostly image of Seven appeared, that was such a nice extra touch. Everything was perfect, the way you paced it out, the way you paired the audio with the visuals... I am going to have to share this around, because to me, this is exactly what it looked like in Six's final moments. Bravo, seriously, bravo!
Here before the BBC copywrite strike and ruins it for everyone. Must say I love your channel and the effort you put in to your content especially the individual Doctor Reviews. I've watched them so many times and are better than the official BBC ones.
@Lou Gagliardi I like that theory... not because I agree with it but because it pisses off Jodie haters. nWho Doctors are far too morally upstanding to do dark properly. Someone... somewhere (probably RTD) mistook the Doctor for Batman and made no guns and not killing an actual rule when the Doctor isn't supposed to have rules she's a freaking petty criminal turned adventurer from a planet of literal ivory tower scientists. The McCoy Doctor on the other hand, would happily sell his companion to an Androgum if it fitted his plans. He may not have the highest bodycount of the Doctors (that's Tom "Casual Genocide" Baker) but he's probably the most flexible in morality.
That was amazing! Truly beautiful. Thank you so much! I really needed that; a noble end to my favourite classic Doctor. I will now always watch this video after Trial of a Timelord and before Time & The Rani. Your video is locked into my canon. Thank you 🙏🏽
Even though I never really liked him as the Doctor, I feel bad for Colin Baker. Not only was the show taken off the air for over a year during his time in the role, but he was fired after the end of his last series, so he didn't even get a regeneration story. I don't blame him for not wanting to come back to do the regeneration scene.
It always amazes me how a fan with editing software and skill alone can make such an amazing sequence but a big budget team always drop the ball and just have him standing around in the tardis talking every time
This is absolutely brilliant! Now if only they could stick this on the season twenty-four blu-ray, and also accidentally animated the whole of Brink of Death, I'd be even happier!
Yeah this is a lot better than the original plan for him to regenerate is to “hit his head on the console”. Really well done here! Hope the BBC add this if they ever want to make a special effects version of this episode as they’ve already made your second Doctor canon!
Absolutely fantastic, you made this DW fan extremely happy. Outstanding work, brilliant just brilliant. Stick this on as the pre credit sequence for Time & The Rani because far as I'm concerned it's canon.
This is a work of art. I can't even begin to work out how you have put this together. It is seamless. I've seen other edits of various regenerations over the years, but nothing like this. Truly amazing. I'm with what everyone else is saying. In my head, this is canon now.
Wow. I always assumed the regeneration was caused by some kind of violent head injury the Doctor received when the TARDIS was getting thrown about - but this makes more sense, as otherwise Mel would of been killed.
This is amazing Jake, you continue to outdo yourself. I'm lost for words. All I can say is well done! You've done justice to this wonderful Doctor and scene.
Wow, this is so damn good. I also love the new visuals for the TARDIS crash, it all looks so authentic. I pray the people in charge see sense, and retroactivly make this the official regen.
A job well done, and another loophole I'd forgotten about that Chibnall should possibly address, the Valyard being trapped within the matrix and as much as I love the Master we should see more of other renegade Timelords like the Rani and Meddling Monk.
There's such a large plethora of other characters that could be drawn upon from the entire series but it always seems to be Daleks or Cybermen, they should be rested for a bit and use other enemies. Don't get me wrong I like those enemies but with such a diverse range to pick from why not change it up a bit. It would also give a way to introduce old and known baddies to a new audience who perhaps didn't know about them. This is why the show needs writers who truly understand it and it's history. (Granted just my opinion)
As everyone else has said - simply superb! Broadcast quality for sure. Certainly better than the actual televised regeneration (the least said about that the better)! No idea how you managed the lip-syncing but reckon it must have taken a gazillion hours of hard work to put this short clip together - well done!
This was wonderful, of all the attempts to mix clips of the Colin Baker era with samples from the BF story this is the best one. Makes me wish the entire thing was adapted but this will do.

This weirdly made me feel emotional .....this is what Colin Baker should have got with his departure from doctor who .....absolutely well done ..fantastic
Great work! :D
Compositing
@@tomnewton4320 Sorry, forgot the I. Should have gone back to spell check 🙄
Yes the weeding and the vegetable garden are great too.
Having just listened to this box set, it’s amazing seeing you bring it to life and fully connect it with the regeneration we got on screen. Thank you so much!
Not merely a technically-excellent visual upgrade, but a reverential and thoughtful work of artistry, with great attention paid to audio.
This really packs an emotional wallop, doesn't it?! Just look at the amount of positivity this has prompted. That's rare on here to say the least. This is definitive and canon! Outstanding work! 👏👏
The BBC should hire you to work on the 60th anniversary special so that we can get a scene with the classic doctors meeting the new series Doctors
I hope whoever has these skills can give us an edit of the ENTIRE series from start to finish, with every missing episode included as well via this type of detailed work, in order, along with the new regen scenes. That'd be the dream.
Hands down brilliant. Simply brilliant. I’m now considering this canon with the show.
me too
I will watch this now before Time and the Rani. Good job.
"What about your precious moral scruples?
They die with me!"
Well that's prescient considering how much of a bastard McCoy's Doctor could be.
it set the precedent for every Doctor after him. He essentially became the valeyard from 7-12. 13 was essentially a reboot.
The re-generation 'denied' to the Sixth Doctor given life through an amazing re-edit - LOVE IT!! :)
Brilliant. I’ve waited 35 years for that! Good work.
Brilliantly done! The regeneration that Colin Baker always deserved but never got. Thank you so much!
That was amazing! Truly beautiful. Thank you so much! I really needed that; a noble end to my favourite classic Doctor.
I will now always watch this video after Trial of a Timelord and before Time & The Rani. Your video is locked into my canon.
Thank you 🙏🏽
Makes me bloody cry every time.
Imagine the entire classic series remade with this kind of editing...im paying everyone on the team
Imagine all the big finish stories remade with this kind of editing....Im paying with you
It would be a case of "shut up and have my money"
I hope one day they animate this audio novel. Colin Baker really put his best in it. Wasn't the worst doctor, he was just the most unique.
Every Doctor deserves a right proper regeneration scene, not just a send off it’s a thank you all rolled into one. I’m glad Six finally got one.
It always amazes me how a fan with editing software and skill alone can make such an amazing sequence but a big budget team always drop the ball and just have him standing around in the tardis talking every time
Now this version….definitely deserves to become canon next
This is absolutely brilliant! Now if only they could stick this on the season twenty-four blu-ray, and also accidentally animated the whole of Brink of Death, I'd be even happier!
Yeah this is a lot better than the original plan for him to regenerate is to “hit his head on the console”. Really well done here! Hope the BBC add this if they ever want to make a special effects version of this episode as they’ve already made your second Doctor canon!
The Sixth Doctor is my favorite Doctor thanks to BF. This made me feel really emotional, such a beautiful visualization of a beautiful scene.
This is fabulous work! Really stellar!! Been awhile since I listened to that particular audio, still trying to keep up with BF's current output.
Absolutely fantastic, you made this DW fan extremely happy.
Outstanding work, brilliant just brilliant.
Stick this on as the pre credit sequence for Time & The Rani because far as I'm concerned it's canon.
All these timely opportunities for fan edits of Doctor Who are quite amazing. Thanks for this one.
This is the best fricking editing ever! Put that on the DVD!
Lovely work with the visuals, attached with the lovely audio from Big Finish. Thank you for all the hard work!
This is the kind of thing that should be added to the offical episode it is done that well.
This is amazing Jake, you continue to outdo yourself. I'm lost for words. All I can say is well done! You've done justice to this wonderful Doctor and scene.
Someone should show this to Colin Baker, he’d love it!
Wow, this is fantastic! It’s like you’ve kidnapped Colin Baker from the past and shot this over green screen!
It is not the Colin Baker we diserve. This is the colin Baker we need. Thank you.
He wasn’t Patrick McGoohan but there’s no one I’d rather have had for Doctor number 6.
FANTASTIC!!! Thank you...this was a real treat! Nice work.
Wow...this is incredibly well done!!! If the Blu-ray boxset of the Seventh Doctor's 1st season is released, this must be on it!
You did what the show never could giving the sixth doctor a good regeneration for that I tip my hat to you
I absolutely love this, it got me a little misty eyed. Best Dr. Who edit ever!
I have the Big Finish Sixth Doctor vs Valeyard audio episodes. Someday I will actually listen to them.
Wow, this is so damn good. I also love the new visuals for the TARDIS crash, it all looks so authentic. I pray the people in charge see sense, and retroactivly make this the official regen.
Some great compositing work there.
This is absolutely stunning, fantastic and very well executed! Great work!
A video I rewatch frequently.
Wow, that is pretty wonderfully done, congrats! I hop Colin gets a chance to stumble upon it!
A job well done, and another loophole I'd forgotten about that Chibnall should possibly address, the Valyard being trapped within the matrix and as much as I love the Master we should see more of other renegade Timelords like the Rani and Meddling Monk.
The Monk almost returned for Twelfth Doctor story...
I'm pretty sure the Valeyard dies in "The last adventure"
mrjekyll andhyde well he managed to come back in the eighth Doctor time war series so I don’t know
As someone whos not watched much classic who, if I just came across this in the episode I couldnt tell you it was fanmade
This is so well done! Just brilliant! Thank you for making this. At last, the Sixth Doctor regenerates.
My dream is a whole new series of big finish adapted like that
The 80's logo would be much more preferable in the thumbnail.
Well done video.
Now that's more like it! I loved this entire audio story arch, fantastic to see it in motion too.
That was really good I love when fans do videos like this very well done indeed
i truly hope he sees this. thank you to whom ever did this. thank you
One of the best doctors i've ever seen. Colin Baker was a really good doctor for me :D
This is absolutely incredible. Why this hasnt been accepted by the BBC as a special 'updated fx' version i will never know. Excellent work. Adds the perfect dramatic end to 6 as he rightfully deserved.
I love this! The Regeneration Six deserved.
Thank you, thank you so much for doing this video, Sixth Doctor has always been my favourite doctor, and I cried when listening to 'The Brink of Death'. It's really amazing to see Sixth Doctor finally gets his own regeneration on screen, this is definitely canon to me
This is just stunning!!! 2nd Doctor next??? 😋 (must include scarecrows 😂)
The Second Doctor had dozens of stories after the War Games, so he never actually had a proper, final regeneration.
@Javier Guidera ah
ruclips.net/video/NtDI7unsUpM/видео.html an actual regeneration scene done similar to this.
This is absolutely brilliant. I can't get my head around how some of the edits were done. Amazing. You've done Colin proud.
The best version of this a second there I believed this was made in the 80’s
