You knw, I've often heard people ask why why the other Doctors respect the First Doctor so much when they are all older and/or wiser than him. The way I've seen it, it makes perfect sense, The First Doctor was born and raised on Gallifrey, he developed as a child and an adult into what he was when the show started, he is essentially the core personality, the person that lies underneath every other doctor's quirks, the person you have when everything else is stripped away. He is the literal embodiment of everything the Doctor is at his heart and soul.
I also think that the doctor may have spent the longest time in his first body as the first doctor is an old man so we can assume he’s aged in that body for a while also it must take a few hundred years for a time lord to age into old age assuming he stays in the same body for long enough, like when Matt smith spent approximately 300 years on a planet and only looked like a man in his 70s.
@@dimitris6258 no, he didn't. That was just a conclusion someone drew up without watching throughout the whole episode. In fact, The Doctor says that she can remember all her past incarnations and she said that she doesn't remember the black female version of herself. My guess is that this "Doctor" is really The Valeyard. Or maybe the first regeneration of The Valeyard. The Master said way back in the 80s that The Valeyard is an amalgamation of the darker sides of The Doctor's nature created somewhere between The Doctor's 12th and final incarnation. Meaning that the events of the episode, "Fugitive of the Judoon" was just one part of a collaborative plot by both The Master and The Valeyard with The Master being the brains behind all this, of course. And that black female Doctor was acting pretty dark and could've killed the Judoon who were arresting her had the 13th Doctor not stepped in. All these clues lead to that "Doctor" actually being The Valeyard.

This is so sweet but sad. It’s lovely seeing Hartnell again reliving the role but it’s sad to see how ill he was, he had to read his lines from a cue just off camera. Still I’m very happy he was there :)
Take notice of what the time Lord says in this clip. "Show me the doctor in his earliest form". Maybe Chibnall needs to check continuity before trying to retcon Doctor Ruth into established continuity.
they didn't want the secret to be known duh... plus there's a high possibility that only the 3 creators knew about the doctor's history and how the regeneration thing really began. The others probably truly believed that hartnell was the first face of the doctor... your theory is easily explained
@Okay but the fact that it needs such a convoluted explanation is just bad storytelling. Its the same with the War Doctor, sure you can get behind the idea and its probably a fun idea but really thinking about Every Doctor after 8 being the number of regenerations +1 is rather dumb. Like, Comic Book Levels Dumb.
@ the time-lords were using a time-stream measuring device. even without a measuring device, even if they were "lied" to, that is the earliest doctor. Chibnall just made a mistake by forgetting this part of the three doctors story.
He was a treasure of facial expressions "DOCTOR, WE HAVE TO EVACUATE!!!" "Worry not Jamie, it's a small explosion it'll only affect the island -" "Mebbe so but we happen to be on the island!" 😏 -> 😒 -> 😱 OH MY WORD!
***** Kind of pointless, if you ask me. I can understand not wanting to get typecast as one particular role, but the fact is, when you play a role as big as the Doctor, that's what you're going to be remembered for above all else, and it'll be the same with Eccleston when all's said and done. This is all epically true here in the USA, since most everything these actors have done apart from DoctorWho isn't so well known either. When Eccleston's old and tired, no matter what else he did, DW is going to be the role that people ask him about, as opposed to, say, his 3 or 4 episodes of Heroes.
He was in the first GI Joe movie as Deathstro but didn’t come back for the sequel which makes no sense as the first one ended with him getting his iconic metal head and we never see it in action
I love how 2 and 3 won't listen to one another but when 1 turns they're listening intently. Everyone respects the Hartnell! RIP the 3 of you. You were all fantastic.
William Hartnells last role as an actor. His ailing health and memory issues were the reason he was written to be trapped that way: he had to stay sitting and read his lines off of cue cards. He died two years later.
Jo Grant (referring to the first Doctor): I hate to ask, but who was that? Both Doctors: Me. [beat, face each other] Me! Second Doctor: [pulls out a coin] Call, will you? Third Doctor: Heads. Second Doctor: [tosses coin, catches it, flips it onto his hand] Hard luck.
@@MichaelBradley1967 Not at all the case actually. The way they avoid time paradoxes with Doctors meeting each other is that time will eventually "fix" itself, iron itself out so to speak, and only the most recent (or, in-universe, oldest) Doctor will remember anything that happened. Otherwise these stories just wouldn't work logically because the Third Doctor would already know how to solve the problem since he would've seen it as Two, who would have been involved as One, etc...
Brilliant line for Mr Hartnell and priceless to see them all together albeit very briefly. Hartnell was of course by late 1972, when this was starting to film, in poor health and couldn't remember a single line without the aid of cue cards hence his appearance on the TV monitor screen only. It would have been magic to have seen them all together with the first Doctor chiding and berating the other two as in the recent Day of the Doctor with John Hurt.
What I love is that the First Doctor was himself quite an argumentative person. Presumably they've plucked him out of somewhere quite late in his timeline so he knows how pointless being like that is.
I love that the last scene of the 1st Doctor, the last ever tv appearance of William Hartnell is him just telling the future Doctors to stop arguing. And to just go and save the universe. You couldn’t ask for a better send off.
I know that but at the time he was very bad at remembering lines so he was reading off prompt cards. He wanted to be in it for the kids. His parts were pre-recorded and inserted in later. His Cerebrovascular disease was preventing him from doing a LOT and later in the same year of this being broadcasted, he was hospitalised permanently. THAT is the point of my comment.
"the earliest Doctor". that makes Hartnell #1. sorry Chibbers, you can't re-write that. The Timeless Children was a complete failure in re-writing Doctor Who's history.
Simple fix is just have it be a genetic memory that can be seen using the matrix on any timelord, and that a side effect of the machine is that it also created false memories and incarnations
What about the Other theory? If reincarnation is a thing among Time Lords, then the Timeless Child can be from the Dark Times and reincarnated as the Other, (alongside Rassilon and Omega) who is then reincarnated as the Doctor. That's how I'm choosing to look at it.
@@-Marius I always assumed it was going off of their appearances, and I guessed Troughton was being called the dandy cuz Pertwee looks more like a clown

The Second Doctor is the clown since he was portrayed as being a silly sort of man in comparison to the more serious First Doctor. Three's the dandy since he was always well dressed.
Forgive my shoddy memory, but I'm fairly sure there was a throwaway line by the Time Lords about trying to grab another future Doctor (since, if they grabbed two from the past, it should be possible) but having trouble getting a lock on the timestream or some other excuse.
Aww, that moment when the three Doctors meet is still up there. 48 bloody years later! It blew me away when I was six years old and it still makes my heart surge.
JamminMage I think it's because he was the longest-lived of all his incarnations (with the possible exception of Matt Smith's Doctor) so technically, he was actually the oldest personality among them.
DarthRushy The First Doctor started the series as an old man, while the Eighth was still fairly youthful in the short prequel where he regenerated into the War Doctor. And if you're relying on non-television sources, you can trace a fairly consistent timeline of the Seventh through the Virgin New Adventures by the development of his companions. Timewyrm: Genesys begins shortly after Survival, because Ace is still a teenager, and Lungbarrow ends with the Doctor being given a mission to retrieve the Master's remains from Skaro, which occurs at the start of the movie.
I mean Eccleston could've done something like Hartnell for the 50th. I mean Hartnell was really sick and he still was willing to do this episode. I don't think Chris realises how many fans he's disappointed and let down because he wasn't in the 50th. I mean he could've got to work with John Hurt. Need I say more?
Ethan I'd been under the assumption that the entire reason John Hurt was hired in the first place was simply because Eccleston refused any involvement.
Bryce Lozier Based on the comments in the story "Dalek" I've thought that another regeneration, not The Ninth Doctor, ended the Time War, but The Ninth Doctor had to live with the emotional damage of those actions. To me, although The War Doctor might have been inserted in between The Eighth and Ninth Doctor due to Eccleston's apparent refusal to return, The War Doctor was such a strong character that he felt like a natural part of the story and not just as a place holder. I put much of the credit for this John Hurt's performance. Despite his short on-screen time, he came across someone who had lived through The Time War and was finally pushed to his limit.
RIP William Hartnell (January 8, 1908 - April 23, 1975), aged 67 RIP Jon Pertwee (July 7, 1919 - May 20, 1996), aged 76 RIP Patrick Troughton (March 25, 1920 - March 28, 1987), aged 67 You will be remembered as legends.
Well, he actually got to live out his life and mature. Each doctor is essentially a new man. New life cycle. I think they need to mature and grow into the bodies a but
That is of course the paradox...The First Doctor is often considered to be the oldest, wisest and most experienced - but of course he isn't. The most recent reincarnation will always have the most experience and knowledge. (In fact asking the first Doctor for help is akin to asking your Great Grandfather to help reprogram your computer for you....) I guess you just have to "ignore the elephant in the room" for this one - and instead concentrate on the character's traditional portrayal as fatherly, wise and protecting.
Stallion'o War A long lasting error that the new series and several cases in the classic series successfully corrected. He is not "Doctor Who," just "The Doctor." Doctor Who is a question.
Christopher Harper Yes, but at the beginning, the actors were all credited as well as Eccleston and at the end of Parting Of The Ways David Tennant were all called "Doctor Who" in the credits. It was only until 10th doctor came along that the credits stated "The Doctor - ____".
R.I.P William Hartnell 1908 - 1975, Patrick Troughton 1920 - 1987 and Jon Pertwee 1919 - 1996. Funny fact William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton were both 67 when they passed away. and both died of heart related problems as did Jon Pertwee. spookily both troughton and pertwee died of heart attacks. plus simonster 61601 - spooky how this stuff keeps happening in this episode. i mean three doctors dying of pratically the same thing, a guy who looks like david bradley and the doctor just generally insulting himself.
Also Jon Pertwee died at the age of 76, switch the numbers and you get 67. Richard Hurndall who played the First Doctor in The Five Doctors also died of a heart attack at the age of 74. All four actors died of heart problems at an age where there as a 7 in it. Guess it's not as lucky as a number people think it is.
GhostPirate6 must be why when 7's era began, the show got cancelled after a few seasons with him. So,you are correct in your assumption that 7 is unlucky.
The Game Lords And Sylvester McCoy's era started in 198*7*. Probably also the reason why the non-canon 30th Anniversary ending up being the weird episode of "Dimensions in Time" instead of them writing a probably better episode called "The Seven Doctors".
"Have you done anything?" "Well we've assessed the situation" "Just as I thought, nothing" Just love these 2 together & they used to fool around a lot together off screen to delight the fans. Always ribbing each other, Patrick Troughton was my favourite Dr & I was so sad when he passed away in 1987. RIP all the Drs who have now passed on.
how fantastic a reality it would have been if Hartnell's health had recovered after he had left the show, I wonder how much more exciting this and 5 Doctors would've been as a result
I love how you can really see character growth when multiple doctors are in the same room 😂 The bickering and finger pointing, how the Doctor gets more and more laid back with each regeneration. I’ve only seen clips and few classic episodes, so I’m not exactly up to date on everything important that’s happened, but I love seeing multiple Doctors just the same! Clown and Dandy indeed 😂
I think the idea is the FIRST doctor is also, IRONICALLY, the most MATURE and COMMANDING Doctor. While each of the Doctors take CHARGE the 1st is better able to think CLEARER because of it. The others tend to be TOO GOOFY for lack of a better phrase to really take command. The Second and Third are shown not able to LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE here due to their SQUABBLING. It REQUIRES the 1st Doctor's intervention. A shared STARTING POINT may also be the reason. Each of the Doctors had to be the FIRST. There has so far been no Doctor to show any DISRESPECT to the FIRST. This could be because the FIRST WAS well THE ORIGINAL. While I think some might find the First DISTASTEFUL they also RECOGNIZE his LEGITIMACY as them. They can "get over it" unlike what the 2nd and 3rd seem to do. So technically IN UNIVERSE one can argue he has the MOST EXPERIENCE, CAN THINK THE CLEAREST, IS RESPECTED BY THE OTHER DOCTORS, AND CAN FORCE THE DOCTOR TO WORK WITH HIMSELF. That's how I justify it.
not so. The 1st Doctor had lived about 743 years as himself before regeneration, while the 2nd Doctor only existed a mere 3 years before the Time Lords forced a 3rd regeneration and the 3rd Doctor also existed about 3 years when he encountered his previous selfs during this crisis. So even though the 2nd and 3rd has the memories and the accumulated knowledge of the 1st they're both lacking in personal actual experience which is why the 1st Doctor can take charge, with the confidence of true experience and age.
"A dandy and a clown". Having watched DW from the very first episode, I remember finding that line really funny, much as I also loved Troughton and Pertwee. Seeing it again, though, I'm more struck by how commanding Hartnell's performance was, despite his very fragile health at the time. Miss all of them.
If people are wondering why the other Doctors respected the First so much, it is because in a way he had lived much longer than they had as an individual. As far as we are aware, the First Doctor had lived a very long time as himself and "died" of old age. By contrast, the Second and Third Doctors had only lived a few years - as individuals. It's also implied in various novels and so on that the First Doctor is regarded as having th emost formidable intelligence.
Had Hartnell been well, then he would have physically delivered those lines in the Tardis and travelled with Troughton across the time bridge. Then all 3 would have pitted their wits against Omega.
Yes, despite already having health problems during his time on Who, he looked a bit better then. But at least he was still willing to play a minor pre-filmed part in "The Three Doctors" so he could appear as the First Doctor one last time.
Poor Billy... you can tell he was on his last legs when they filmed his part. This was his last appearance as an actor before he passed a couple years later

Aspie183 No, he got it right. The 3rd Doctor is the Dandy.
Jay Kay 10: compensation for what?
Jay Kay You see, I think he'd approve of Eccleston's Doctor! Serious, no dallying about, gets the job done, a bit hard fisted but not to worry! The others, on the other hand, I quite agree! (Although I think McCoy and Tennant's Docs would probably be referred to as "Show Offs")
1: So you're my replacements,
a dandy = 3 and a clown = 2
4: Oh so you're my replacements,
A dandy = 5 and a clown = 6
spongeyspikes09 9th: oh so you're my replacements a egotistical atention seeking emo (10th) and a clown (11th)
10th: Oh so you're my replacements. A baby faced brainiac (11th) and Mr angry eyebrows. (12th)
3: Oh, so you are my replacement... Teeth and curles = 4
War: Ohh so you’re my replacements: sand-shoes & chinny
5 was more of a public.schoolboy than a dandy- he wore a bloomin' cricket outfit after all
This is so sweet but sad.
Whoops
they didn't want the secret to be known duh... plus there's a high possibility that only the 3 creators knew about the doctor's history and how the regeneration thing really began.
Theyve never said Ruth was pre-Hartnell
@ the time-lords were using a time-stream measuring device. even without a measuring device, even if they were "lied" to, that is the earliest doctor. Chibnall just made a mistake by forgetting this part of the three doctors story.
0:52 The Second Doctor's sudden contrasting change of face as he reacts to his description is hilarious.
He was a treasure of facial expressions
"DOCTOR, WE HAVE TO EVACUATE!!!"
"Worry not Jamie, it's a small explosion it'll only affect the island -"
"Mebbe so but we happen to be on the island!"
😏 -> 😒 -> 😱
OH MY WORD!
@@artfulanders8449that scene was hilarious 😂
My, but The Doctor seem to have such self-esteem problems, berating himselves like that.
Multiple personal disorder at its finest.
You my good commenter has just given me a 1000 angst fic ideas :)
Hartnell is brilliant. He was basically on his death bed and yet came back for the 10th anniversary. You hear that Ecclestone?
***** Kind of pointless, if you ask me. I can understand not wanting to get typecast as one particular role, but the fact is, when you play a role as big as the Doctor, that's what you're going to be remembered for above all else, and it'll be the same with Eccleston when all's said and done. This is all epically true here in the USA, since most everything these actors have done apart from DoctorWho isn't so well known either. When Eccleston's old and tired, no matter what else he did, DW is going to be the role that people ask him about, as opposed to, say, his 3 or 4 episodes of Heroes.
aunchient pistol only thing I know him from is Thor: The Dark World. Unfortunately as one of many pointless and forgettable Marvel villains
He was in the first GI Joe movie as Deathstro but didn’t come back for the sequel which makes no sense as the first one ended with him getting his iconic metal head and we never see it in action
Robert. Why are you in OK CORRAL!?
@Aunchient Pistol: I know Eccleston was Malekith, the dark elf, in _Thor: The Dark World._
Even thought you could tell he was frail, he still had the best lines in the entire story.
3 should have remembered he cheated at the coin toss thing when he was 2.
@@MichaelBradley1967 he did, that's why three just accepted it
@@adscott27 So 2's cheating is a "fixed point"?
@@MichaelBradley1967 Not at all the case actually. The way they avoid time paradoxes with Doctors meeting each other is that time will eventually "fix" itself, iron itself out so to speak, and only the most recent (or, in-universe, oldest) Doctor will remember anything that happened. Otherwise these stories just wouldn't work logically because the Third Doctor would already know how to solve the problem since he would've seen it as Two, who would have been involved as One, etc...
@Missy20201 I was making a joke, but that's the in-joke they had in Time Crash. Tennant only knew what to do because Davison watched him doing it.
Oh look the round things.
I love the round things.
What are the round things?
No idea.
They're the doors to the TARDIS inner systems!! D'oh!
(Moffat's writing really gets me sometimes)
DarthRushy Yeah, I know they are. Six pulled one out of the wall I remember to fix his chameleon circuit on the TARDIS.
And just like that I'm in tears... three great Doctors, one beautiful scene... :')
I love that the last scene of the 1st Doctor, the last ever tv appearance of William Hartnell is him just telling the future Doctors to stop arguing. And to just go and save the universe. You couldn’t ask for a better send off.
Damn so true
The Doctor is arguing with himself. Typical.
"Typical. Absolutely typical." - Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge Stewart
It's pretty ironic
oh bless old hartnell trying his best
He wasn't that old at the time, just in very bad health. He was only 64 at the time.
At times he had completely forgotten that he played the character
Radlers: Jack
yeah, I wonder what Hartnell would think about his appearance in this episode.
He probably would’ve seen it as his one last hoorah and would’ve thanked Hurndall and Bradley for continuing his legacy
RIP William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee
0:45 Troughton was a brilliant actor and a brilliant Doctor Who.
MaddoxProductions1 agreed
I like Troughton's reaction at 0:45 when Hartnell appears. Priceless.
"the earliest Doctor". that makes Hartnell #1. sorry Chibbers, you can't re-write that. The Timeless Children was a complete failure in re-writing Doctor Who's history.
It was also completely unnecesary
Amen brother (or sister) I dont acknowledge 13th the doctors were 1-12
Simple fix is just have it be a genetic memory that can be seen using the matrix on any timelord, and that a side effect of the machine is that it also created false memories and incarnations
What about the Other theory? If reincarnation is a thing among Time Lords, then the Timeless Child can be from the Dark Times and reincarnated as the Other, (alongside Rassilon and Omega) who is then reincarnated as the Doctor. That's how I'm choosing to look at it.
Another reason why Chibnall is just such a shit producer.
"I came out of the time vortex because you need to stop" - First Doctor
So, The Doctor was actually dissing himself. I love this show so much.
I always loved how quickly Troughton’s face just drops when he gets called a “dandy” lmao
Its pertwee the dandy and througthon the clown
@@-Marius I always assumed it was going off of their appearances, and I guessed Troughton was being called the dandy cuz Pertwee looks more like a clown
@@Glacial7 Pertwee look like more like an dandy too me with his coat ,his shirt and his bow tie .
Trougthon is clown because he wear oversized cloths, got a red hankies in his brest pocket , play with a recorder and always making joke.
Sorry for bad english
The Second Doctor is the clown since he was portrayed as being a silly sort of man in comparison to the more serious First Doctor. Three's the dandy since he was always well dressed.
Imagine if The 2 Doctors still didnt get it and the time Lords have to summon future incarnations of The Doctor
Forgive my shoddy memory, but I'm fairly sure there was a throwaway line by the Time Lords about trying to grab another future Doctor (since, if they grabbed two from the past, it should be possible) but having trouble getting a lock on the timestream or some other excuse.
@@elliot20201 Please, if this is ever remastered again, slap in some footage of them attempting to grab, say, a baffled Paul McGann.
The last appearance of William Hartnell before his death
The old Doctor Who was a kid's show, but it really respected its audience.
So the FIrst Doctor nicknamed the Second and Third Clown and Dandy?...I suppose it was better than my nicknames for them; The Beatle and Liberace.
Morbius Fitzgerald A Beatle who could outwit many and a Liberace who used moves similar to Steven Segal, minus the fatal injuries.
3baxcb ...Pretty much.
+Morbius Fitzgerald Good names
+Morbius Fitzgerald Better than Grandad and Sandshoes
+Morbius Fitzgerald Better than Grandad and Sandshoes
Idk why but it just feels so wholesome to see 2 smiling seeing 1
Like “yes it’s the old me!”
Aww, that moment when the three Doctors meet is still up there. 48 bloody years later! It blew me away when I was six years old and it still makes my heart surge.
Troughton and Pertwee have some of the best TV chemistry I've ever seen!
"A dandy, and a clown."
I love how quickly Two's face falls
It was wise of the Time Lords to send in the 1st Doctor to get his replacements to stop bickering and cross that stuff outside The TARDIS.
If I was the first Doctor I would have went down there, yanked their ears and shouted "Stop arguing and get a move on, your making me look bad".
I've always found it brilliant that the 1st Doctor (Despite being the youngest) seems to always be in charge when they come together.
JamminMage I think it's because he was the longest-lived of all his incarnations (with the possible exception of Matt Smith's Doctor) so technically, he was actually the oldest personality among them.
JamminMage
I agree. In "The Five Doctors" The First Doctor was the one who figured out what was going on and defeated the enemy.
Kartissa Don't forget the Seventh Doctor, who also lived to old age. Or the Eighth Doctor and his bajillion audio dramas.
"stop dilly dallying AND CROSS IT!" I like the bite One has there.
It was reported that William, was delighted to be asked, to come back as the doctor, but by this stage, was a very ill man. Great to see him.
Dale Baker what was wrong with him?
Health issues. Far as he got in production was recorded footage like here and the promotional images
But what about the footage at 0:17
He Is Literally Standing Up Walking Around
Old Footage? Maybe
Ethan I'd been under the assumption that the entire reason John Hurt was hired in the first place was simply because Eccleston refused any involvement.
fyi, they weren't cardboard cutouts, they were real people in the doctors suits with the faces later put in
I fail to see how that is any better.
I just think Eccleston doesn't care about doctor who like the others, to him it was just a job
RIP William Hartnell (January 8, 1908 - April 23, 1975), aged 67
RIP Jon Pertwee (July 7, 1919 - May 20, 1996), aged 76
RIP Patrick Troughton (March 25, 1920 - March 28, 1987), aged 67
You will be remembered as legends.
2 and 3 are older and yet 1 seems to be the smartest of all 13 doctors XD
Well, he actually got to live out his life and mature. Each doctor is essentially a new man. New life cycle. I think they need to mature and grow into the bodies a but
RetroGuy3210 of course. He's the 1st
That doesn’t mean they suddenly become less smart. They change, but they remember everything they’ve done and can’t forget knowledge.
Why would the 1st doctor know something his future selves wouldn't?
He could have seen something similar in his lifetime that they forgot.
the second doctor costume and resemblece to him, and the fact that the tadis had change
RaineV1 HOW COULD THEY FORGET THIS?!?
KwontumFisix A LOT of years!!!
That is of course the paradox...The First Doctor is often considered to be the oldest, wisest and most experienced - but of course he isn't. The most recent reincarnation will always have the most experience and knowledge.
(In fact asking the first Doctor for help is akin to asking your Great Grandfather to help reprogram your computer for you....)
I guess you just have to "ignore the elephant in the room" for this one - and instead concentrate on the character's traditional portrayal as fatherly, wise and protecting.
THIS was Doctor Who. It will ALWAYS be.
New Doctor Who is pretty good too, it's just different. Maybe even better in some ways (series 1-4)
I don't think anybody is saying it's not. What a weird comment.
I love all the actors who play Doctor Who.
The Doctor*
Both are technically correct as the old series actors were credited as playing "Doctor Who" in the end credits.
Stallion'o War
A long lasting error that the new series and several cases in the classic series successfully corrected. He is not "Doctor Who," just "The Doctor." Doctor Who is a question.
Peter Cushing was good at playing doctor who :)
The Game Lords
And Sylvester McCoy's era started in 198*7*. Probably also the reason why the non-canon 30th Anniversary ending up being the weird episode of "Dimensions in Time" instead of them writing a probably better episode called "The Seven Doctors".
Yeah. This getting creepy. Probably won't get a 17th doctor
Conspiracy anyone?
"Have you done anything?"
"Well we've assessed the situation"
"Just as I thought, nothing"
Just love these 2 together & they used to fool around a lot together off screen to delight the fans. Always ribbing each other, Patrick Troughton was my favourite Dr & I was so sad when he passed away in 1987. RIP all the Drs who have now passed on.
You can see the reflection of the other cast members on the scanner. It's a pretty cool shot, if it had been intentional.
Brilliant performance from Bill Hartnell on this serial, he was feeling quite ill and yet still managed to pull off the Doctor.
how fantastic a reality it would have been if Hartnell's health had recovered after he had left the show, I wonder how much more exciting this and 5 Doctors would've been as a result
"Oh, so you're my replacements."
Let's not get meta here.
"So stop dilly-dallying... and CROSS IT!" Hartnell
Here's a question, why is the 1st automatically in command? I mean in universe he's the youngest and least experienced
I guess it was just because he was the first....?
KAO S Hm, interesting theory.
KAO S Not sure where you got that because the second doctor in the tomb of the cybermen is around 450
War doctor: so you are my replacement . A nerd and weirdo.
10 doctor:?
11 doctor:?
First Doctor again: so you’re my replacements a Scotsman and a blond
More like 'sandshoes' and 'chinny'
Mr Critical you know, thinking about this comment, technically, he could be addressing either Six and Seven or Twelve and Thirteen.
"Who was that?" Two and Three:"Me!...ME!" I'm weeeeeaaaakk! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I’m glad that the two doctors have so much respect for the first doctor
“Hard luck”
That line kills me every damn time. 2 just seems to forget he’s talking to his future self 😂
I feel like if all the Doctors were together the 1st would be in charge for sure lol
@TheWhoLockManiac he got them attack eyebrows
@E. Motion not if 9th doctor barge in. He is tougher than 12th. He always calls human "ape" when someone did something stupid
When the inside of the TARDIS looked like a real TARDIS.
Ironically in some exterior shots of this story the tardis exterior prop doesn't have the interior entrance and only has the back of the exterior prop
1-9: Dont interfere.

Martha: Do they say that yet?
10: They do now...
I love Patrick's face when he first sees William.
*when a 1 minute ad plays and you cant skip it* ;-;
Breaks my heart seeing bill in this state, poor man can barely speak. His health problems really did become apparent later in life didn't they... :(
Yes, despite already having health problems during his time on Who, he looked a bit better then. But at least he was still willing to play a minor pre-filmed part in "The Three Doctors" so he could appear as the First Doctor one last time.
I’ve always thought 1 and 2 would make for a very interesting dynamic in a multi-Doctor serial.
It's such a shame that William Hartnell never got to meet any other Doctors
He got to meet Troughton while filming the regeneration scene at the end of "The Tenth Planet" in 1966...
1:30 cracks me up every time
Sad Fun Fact William Hartnell wasn't Well enough to stand in with his two coworkers 😔
hartnell may have been on his death bed pretty much but my god he still commands every scene he has in this
"Call will you"
"Heads"
"Bugger"
Absolutely priceless
When Jo and the 3rd Doctor get zapped, I love the pose they're in.
Judging by the comments section half of these people don't know what classic who is.
Huzzah.
Troughton and Pertwee worked so well together! It was hilarious, some of their scenes. :)
3 was always pissed at 2 beacause in a way 2 was resposible for making the time lords banish him to earth and stopping his tardis from working.
Hartnell always made me smile, and his appearances here are fantastic because they are so concentrated in their brevity.
I just love how Patrick Troughton is like a foot shorter than Jon Pertwee.
Poor Billy... you can tell he was on his last legs when they filmed his part. This was his last appearance as an actor before he passed a couple years later
I love how the Second Doctor was excited to see the First Doctor and The Third Doctor was like, "Oh great..."
zoom chatting with yourself ^_^
Great story also! Kinda the gold standard for how to do multiple incarnations of the doctor together in one story :)
saying that though theres a lot of good versions of this from classic and modern Who ^_^
Imagine all 14 doctors meeting up. And 13 of them reacting to finally regenerating into a woman.
0:52 When being called either a Dandy or a Clown both are equally incensed
1:38 - rule one... the Doctor lies :P
"So you are my replacements? A dandy and a clown." 1st Doctor to Doctor 2 and Doctor 3.
