Such a shame we lost him. I like to imagine him in heaven, at a table with William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton. They have reunions every Novermber 23rd, John Hurt also goes, it's great.

Fun Fact: he had an audition to be Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but he couldn’t since during that time he was still the Doctor. This man could’ve been Willy Wonka.

John’s son Sean Pertwee in an interview once spoke highly of his dad saying he was a very kind and affectionate man who always loved and hugged his kids , it really melted my heart 💓

Jon served in the Royal Navy during the war and was serving on a ship when he was nominated for Officer training. As a result he left that ship. That ship was HMS Hood, A fortunate twist of fate not only for him but for us as we nearly did not get to enjoy him. Rest In Peace Jon.

Hell of a guy, and a damn good actor. His son Sean inherited at least some of his acting skills, so Jon's legacy will live on through him.

Working in a Hotel near the Humber Bridge early 80's and Jon Pertwee (who was really tall) came in dressed as Worzel Gummidge. He heard there was a Wedding going on in and went down and into the gathering making everyone's day by doing 'Worzel.'

  • @mbutts1000

You know how people always ask if you could have anyone you want around for a dinner party, who would it be. I think Pertwee would be one of them. He such a funny interesting bloke.

An absolute legend. In WW2 he was spy who worked with Ian Fleming and reported to Churchill. My favourite Doctor. Sadly missed.

What a talented and naturally funny man he was, and sadly missed. I had the good fortune to meet him twice in his Worzle Gummidge guise, with my little boy who hero worshipped him. Once at Shrewsbury Flower show where my 2 year old son asked 'Where's Turnip Head?' and Worzle replied 'Oh, he's gone up to the great compost heap in the sky!' Then we saw him again as Worzle, at the Liverpool Garden Festival. After some photos together - I joined him for a cup of tea and asked when the next series is due. He said 'That's what I want to know!'.. he then stated that there were talks of it being done in New Zealand, but he seemed very unhappy about it at that time. I was so lucky to have met him and talked with him. I have always been a fan of his work, and stopped watching Dr Who when he finished his turn at the role. God bless you Jon xx
