I tell my son that his Father was born in 1971 and because of that I got to listen and be around when rap/hip hop was at it's pinnacle. I tell him about my friend who was good friends with Tupac in Marin city aka "The Jungle" and told him about how Wrestlers talk about always maintaining K Fab, basically staying in character, today's rappers are average dudes, their material doesn't touch the masses, just certain niches. Rap back then was universal in how in changed lives. You had all walks of life and people and culture trying to emulate rappers like Nas, Big Daddy Kane, Krs-1. Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth had real messages in their music. Many others as well, now we drill rap that doesn't unite. It kills and keeps us separated/divided and these labels love it. They put life insurance policies out on these literally here today gone tomorrow rappers, keep their masters and on to the next. Very sad.

***** Too many to list, but there are some rosters that are putting out phenomenal shit - Duck Down (R.I.P. Sean Price), Mellow Music, Rhymesayers, and a lot of their affiliated acts.

As of this writing ✍️ it’s 2023 and Pete Rock and CL Smooth are now bitter enemies and still at odds with each other for over 20 years! Such a shame that these two brothers have been estranged from each other for so long! Looking at this video and them walking away hugging each other I pray that they can do what their classic says and Straighten It Out! 🙌🏾💯❤️💪🏽🙏🏾
