To everybody talking about the current state of hip hop, of course you can’t find uplifting/positive stuff on the radio, we don’t own the stations, the record industry does, and music like this doesn’t serve their agenda. All that being said, respect to the young artists whose names are not known, but are keeping the spirit of this music alive, with their own voice. There’s great music in every era, just gotta look for it these days!
Didn't own the stations then either. Yet this song was able to get on the radio. You can't escape that the audience has dug in deep in embracing a different mindset and way of being. Buffoonery and being a knuckle head is considered the norm, while insightfulness is the outlier. There are plenty of examples of the consumer rejecting an agenda that was brought to the forefront in an attempt to force them to accept it. Black people currently accepting exaggerated tackiness and destructiveness isn't immune to it.
I believed that 20 years ago. I don't now because RadioOne (owned by Cathy Hughes, a Black woman) owns most "Urban" radio stations today. Why then are you still hearing the same garbage on the radio? Because the problem has really never been corporatization. If us the consumers didn't support the garbage they wouldn't play it. So the issue really is the man (or woman) in the mirror.
@@duncan3998 cool bro. Doesn't mean everything made today is trash. If you think that then you're just close minded. But there are plenty of artist worth listening to in this era and any era. There will always be good music. Period.
Pete Rock and CL were such a gift to Hip Hop. Their music is conscious, deep, and thought provoking. The end of this music video nearly brings tears to my eyes - seeing the happiness and love of a father with his child. We need to stop this degeneracy and get back to this folks.
I wonder if Pete and CL really knew what they accomplished here, at the time. This is timeless, spiritual, truly one of the finest hip-hop tracks ever made.
Tha baby on the video is now 30 years old wow time flies ...I miss those days!!! I tell God everyday how much I miss those days better times for music, people , no COVID 19, sellouts and demons wasn't saturating the game back then, men and women were cooler then, the food was better no GMO CRAP, the best of time!!! Everyone in this video is in their 30s(the kids), late 40s-50s now...🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Ain't that a trip????
Do you see the way his mom helped him get ready you can feel the love from mothers and fathers back then man I miss these days and this music lord have mercy thank GOD for RUclips
Pete Rock and CL Smooth were ahead of their time with this one! Name 1 hip-hop record today that talks about love, commitment, and parenthood. I'll wait.
Corporations took over hip hop and changed it to what it is now to corrupt people’s mind. Simple as that. They don’t want rappers dropping knowledge and game on songs. They want sex, crime, murder and gayness to take over and it has.
The reason why chill hip hop was in the mainstream was that, the whole chill vibe mainstream in that time. It's what sold. Now not so much. TBH tho, if you just use one of the same samples, modernize it, and you got urself a hit.
The hip hop/ rap today is garbage if you know what I mean compare to these lyrics to today’s lyrics are ass, this is real hip hop👍 today’s hip hop is just ass they are rapping about the same stuff all over again and again am I right?🥱
Like Rakim said "TIMELESS, so age dont count in the booth, when ya flow stay submerged in the fountain of youth" TIMELESS CLASSIC!!!!! BIG UP COREY PENN
Super nice and I was only 22yrs old in 1992 just playing this in CD player in my 1989 Buick Regal Turbo car in the 7th Ward St Bernard project ghetto streets in Nawlins aka New Orleans Louisiana 1992 💥💥💥💥💥
This video is like a psychedlic dream. What makes those times magical is how all attention was focussed on the moment and the people present. And the rest was you travelling deep in imagination and private dreams. We underestimate how much the digital world takes away from the present, the imagination and from interactions in the phsyical world. My only medium i use on my phone is youtube and call function btw. But its a collective reality thing.
Mecca and the Soul Brother had all the fixings of real Hip Hop. Knowledge, Self Awareness and Respect for not just for our beautiful sisters but for one another as well.
This cut puts me in a automatic time machine. Back to the 90's and the days of chillin' beautifully in a classy apartment, in school, making some money, suited and booted everyday and a whole lot more, lol. I wasn't even 20 yet. This song brings back memories and one of my favorite cuts by Pete & C.L. Smooth
I grew up on this this is real hip hop gave a lot of hope family unity brotherhood and fatherhood what meant important to us as a people this will never die
Rap City days! I was around 16 when this joint came out. Its good and bad in every era but, the late 80's and 90's was the best! Great time for hip hop!

The greatest with bOnita apple bum and Lls I need love .Top 3 love Joints

Ll will always have the best with I need Love. He was the originator!!"I agree with Lots of Loving, then Bonita Applebaum.

Much love and respect, this joint was major. But today's hiphop is missing key elements like this. Rap is about the school to prison pipeline now
