The biggest problem with the Acolyte is that characters motivations change on a dime with no explanation. Mae probably changes her mind twenty times across the series.
The funniest but worst line in the whole series is Osha going: "I'm not so easily corrupted". Absolutely hilarious because she gets corrupted immediately and forgets that her sister tried to burn her alive and her new master just slaughtered a few innocent Jedi for no reason but "I guess I'm Sith because I don't want the Jedi to tell me I can't kill whoever I want!!!"
Honestly, if they got rid of the twin thing and made Osha just one character and it was a Romeo and Juliet fanservicey dark romance thing betweeen Qimir and her still being a Jedi trainee while him being apprentice to Plagueis, that would be a better story. This seemed like they wanted to fit 6 different stories and just meshed them together and see which parts held...
And more than that, Mae's perspective isn't meaningfully explored either. She was an objectively possessive and domineering sister (who even had sadistic tendencies as demonstrated by her squeezing that insect with her powers) and she never really is forced to acknowledge that in an impactful way, Osha simply, moves past all that, wrongly convinced that since her association with the Jedi was built on a tragedy they contributed to, Mae was worth forgiving without question. They sort of acknowledge Mae's individual crimes during their confrontation, where Osha expresses her resentment for Mae for supposedly killing their family and briefly mentioning Mae threatening to kill Osha, but not how she would always treat Osha like an extension of herself, never caring about her sister as a person (this jealousy also extending to the other witches, who mainly saw Osha and Mae as religious figures and future leaders, not a people), which follows the show's trend of portraying Darksiders in a negative sense despite attempting to make them sympathetic. It's not helped that Mae's motivations changed so rapidly when Osha got involved and she goes from determined assassin to fleeing coward for much of the runtime. This storyline had the potential to be compelling if it had committed to the fact that sure the Jedi had fault, but it didn't make the Darksiders morally superior in any way, as at the end of the day, the Dark Side is still a corruptive element that perverts the ones that channel it, and it's meant to be treated as empowering for a character to become a Darksider, to "fall" to worst aspects amplified. In comparison, the recent Dune film manages to strike a balance between having a character give into power for understandable, and occasionally justifiable reasons while also portraying it as tragic.
The mind wiping is most notably an ability in KOTOR (Knights of The Old Republic). However, it took an entire Jedi Council to pull it off, not just one person can do it
@Venin83 Only certain parts of the Mortis arc were forgotten, because Anakin and the others remember the events. It's also kinda different since the ones aren't real beings, more like the Force represented as people, so their abilities aren't comparable
For Revan, it took an entire Jedi Council because he was an actually powerful Sith Lord, and eventually Jedi Master. In The Old Republic, during the Sith Warrior storyline, Master Yonlach solo wipes Yu-Li’s mind to prevent the “Sith Warrior” from getting any information about Jaesa.
After filming in full was done, he admitted to thinking of ending it all over 2 dozen times when he learned he could have asked for 50% more pay to an almost career ending spot in cringe/confusing/modern trash that is made by Disney that has angered and destroyed all childhood memories of an entire generation. poor guy
Redditor ahh response (edit)Yo, what’s all the commotion about. I saw a coma and proper grammar and made a joke like damn; I had never even mentioned Disney in the first place. What kind of pipe are you people on here using?
This was funny the first four times I heard it. Then it was predictable and boring. Now, now you might be bringing it back. If I hear this... six more times, then I'll definitely think it's funny again.
In sci-fi writing, this is known as an "Idiot Plot". From the Turkey City Lexicon: "A plot which functions only because all the characters involved are idiots. They behave in a way that suits the author’s convenience, rather than through any rational motivation of their own. (Attr. James Blish)" This writing is flagrantly bad. What do I mean by that? :No one cared about crafting a coherent story, building characters, or basic editing for errors (like burning stone buildings) because they knew it didnt matter- just slap Star Wars on and you are guaranteed a certain amount of viewership. The Acolyte is an exercise in cynicism and laziness.
the acolyte break cannon so often and carelessly that, to me, its one of the worst shows to ever be made. right up there with velma. its such a damning representation of star wars and lucasfilm should be ashamed.
What's even funnier is that the Witch lady actively antagonized Sol and Torbin before Mae walked into the room. She proceeded to threaten and mock their entire organization when she had no reason to. She quite literally had MULTIPLE chances to just tell the Jedi what she was going to do, but instead, she had to act like a prick because she was full of herself. Her turning into a smoke monster demon ghost thing and being stabbed for it was 100% deserved. Also while she was turning into a demon thing, she is actively turning Mae into smoke as well...like Shes about to kill her... WHAT did she think was going to happen and how did she think Sol was going to respond???
Leslye Headland said in an interview that what the witch leader was doing was going "transform her and Mei into the force", which is what X23 Jeckie called dying in episode 4 or 5. So she was going to kill Mei and herself. For like no reason.
Headland has been jumping through hoops in interviews clarifying certain actions taken, and on that topic in particular she said that she 'thinks' that Aniseya was transforming Mae and herself into the Force 'in a way that doesn't kill them'. Which, regardless of how you spin it, doesn't excuse that Aniseya did not in any way try to defuse the situation before turning into a nightmare demon smoke monster.
Even Leslie headland doesn’t know what happened when Anisaya turned into a smoke monster and she created the show. She said so In an interview recently. This show is an embarrassment to Star Wars and filmmaking in general
Not to mention, when she is force choking Soul, she is sporting her trademark blank face. During one of the angriest moments for her character. A-tier acting.
It's sad that the scene she showed the most emotion was when Pip shot liquid in her face, both on Mae and Osha. Most reaction out of the whole show. What an incredible actress they blessed our screen with.. Can you believe Leslie said she almost started crying when she saw Amandla act?
Some of the most wooden acting i've seen, especially for something with a $180m budget. I'm convinced its just some money laundering scheme at this point, cause there isn't a chance in hell this cost that much.
I refuse to believe that they went through more than one draft. Like from a writer's perspective this show had very questionable moments throughout the season that ruin the narrative structure. And I for the life of me can't understand why Disney is so LAZY with the starwars franchise. We occasionally get content that is well-thought and planned but most of the Disney era seemingly has the consistent issue of lazy writing. It really comes off that they were betting on the franchise's name to carry all the weight and they could just sit back without a care in the world. It is very odd how Disney can't seem to be bothered to give attention and care to the most valuable IP in the world.
Yes-men or incompetent writers all around. I don't think the writers are thinking ahead and writing down the potential cause-and-effect. Nobody discussing with each other about the stuff that might happen and different perspective that may come from the way its written. Not asking yes-men to reinforce their writing or opposing group that maliciously try to destroy their writing. Just someone to do a little push to see if they'll change some things to make it believable. Believable for what star wars is.
not just star wars, basically everything they've thrown out in recent years has been lazy and like they just rely on the popularity of the IPs/characters to carry their whole business model my favourite genre is superhero stuff and this stupid fkcing company has basically ruined ANY form of visual media for that genre entirely, everything tries really hard to be the next marvel or they have to subvert it until its not superhero-related at all anymore, they just made complete slop mainstream, god man it pisses me off
my theory is that they all think they know better and they're not taking no comments from anyone outside their "yes men"... like seriously, as everyone mentioned, there are writting problems, let alone what fans wouldn't like or not, just problems on writting 101, this feels like when you hire someone because he/she's family/friend and turns out he/she is bad at it but you wont admit it.
Lazy writing and incompetent writing are different. They certainly spared no effort when it came to sexualizing the Sith character, or thoroughly demonizing Squid Game guy because of course they would.
Churchill coined the phrase “A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma” I coined the phrase, that Lucasfilm’s scripts are “a contradiction wrapped in a Contrivance inside of incompetence”.
The characters have the mental compacity of Horror Movie Characters. Where basically no one talks to eachother, and they all make the dumbest decision possible to get themselves killed.
Ha that's actually a great comparison. Torbin was like I fortified my mind so you can't possess me again. Would've been a good tip to tell the other jedi I'd think. Or considering they are masters and knights they should already know but whatever, the plot has to happen
?? What??? First master died saving someone from Mae’s knife. She got distracted and under estimated her opponent… that’s not really a “dumb decision”. Torbin willingly died. That’s not a “dumb decision” lmao. He didn’t fuck up and accidentally die because of his choices. Kelnaca we don’t know about. It’s implied he got snuck up on. Maybe a “dumb decision” on his part. We don’t know. It’s really not that important. Sol, like Torbin, willingly let himself be killed. You can’t call these a horror movie decision. That would imply they made a mistake and accidentally died. These were intentional lmao. The other two characters were Jecki and Yord. They died to a more experienced fighter… This is the thing you get with people who hate this show. They can only listen to grifters and have absolutely zero comprehension of the show. What you just said was OBJECTIVELY wrong but people will eat it up like fucking slop lol
@@thelilhedgehog6855 The lack of communication did lead to a lot of deaths, but mostly due to the same incident: The witch could have saved herself and her entire coven if she'd simply told the Jedi that they decided to let Osha go with them. Sol could have saved himself if he'd just talked to Osha.
It was worse, because she'd already mind-r*ped the teenage Padawan earlier, and her coven was pointing arrows at them. They were extremely hostile and she chose to turn into a shadow demon for funsies? Oops
4:43 more info on this part, the mother was turning into a smoke demon while ALSO turning the arsonist twin (idek who is who even after watching the show) into a smoke demon. So for all Sol knew (quite literally nothing apart from a smoke monster evaporating a child) the mother was either trying to attack them, or trying to kidnap the kid to escape.
@@Bfkcjscbsnjcman 100+ comments and all the recent ones are you being a dumb ass 12 year old, “tough guy” mindset it’s ironic you’re tryna act like you don’t act like an even bigger loser
Have you seen the pic of his last day on set? They gave him flowers and he looked so genuinely proud and happy. Shame he got stuck with this production.
The problem with them trying to make the jedi look bad is that they made the coven act so horribly that it justifies the jedi's actions. The mother, instead of trying to de-escalate the situation, randomly turns into some ominous smoke being and tries to dissolve Mae. (In interviews, this was described using the same phrase as they used for cutting a moth in half. Along the lines of "returning to the force"). The coven constantly escalates the situation they're in when there is no need to. The writers are telling us the jedi are bad while showing us the opposite, and then because they have no self awareness they won't write the jedi as being able to explain themselves in any of the dialogue. Sol had to kill her to save Mae's life, but for some reason he doesn't ever just explain that to Mae or Osha. Everyone in this show is either incredibly stupid or a psychopath.
Jedi council: so what happened? Sol: So we found this life created by a witch cult seemingly made using a vergence in the force. Crazy witch cult leader turned into a demonic smoke monster and began disintegrating one of the vergence lifeforms, so I stabbed her. Rest of the cult possessed the wookie and when we severed their control they all dropped dead. We only managed to save one of the twins born of the vergence. Jedi council:...Good job, wish youd found the other one but sounds like you handled everything well. This is the fundamental problem with the show, they don't make the jedi seem evil, they show the jedi overreaching slightly and then acting like perfectly reasonable people.
But the whole thing was basically spurred on by Sol's overwhelming desire for a padawan making him unable to keep himself from interfering in a society the Jedi knew nothing about. When he killed Aniseya and ignited an already tense situation, it was due to a gut reaction to something he didn't understand, even if it was an understandable one. And finally, when he chose to save Osha over Mae, he did so based on the fact that Osha didn't know that he had killed her mother, while Mae did. If they had told the whole truth, these facts would have inevitably come to light and Sol would have faced serious sanctions, not to mention that Osha would likely not be accepted into the Jedi. Not that I'm condoning the lie. Sol did not act in a manner befitting a Jedi Knight, and Osha was too old and too emotionally compromised to ever be a good Jedi.
@@disastergoblin65 The gut reaction to something he didn't understand was a person turning into a smoke monster and disintegrating a little girl and a wookie being possessed. This instantly invalidates any point you can make about him killing her being a gut/incorrect reaction. Its not like she was reaching into her pocket for her wallet, she turned into a massive smoke demon with razor teeth and started vanishing a child. Even the show runner struggles to explain this, saying she was trying to make herself and mae "one with the force" but not killing them.
@@disastergoblin65 The gut reaction was to a woman turning into a razor mouthed smoke demon that tried to disintegrate a child, that's not a gut reaction that's a perfectly reasonable reason to stab a bitch. Especially as they possessed a wookie jedi. It's also not like they killed all the witches, the witches were dumbasses that killed themselves when they decided to posses a jedi. Of course they were going to get pushed out, how the fuck were the jedi supposed to know these idiots were so linked they couldn't survive being severed from the wookie. He thought mae was dead in a burning fortress (something he actually had no involvement with beyond his mere presence upsetting one of the girls enough to somehow create a massive fire with a single notebook) It is weird he didn't stick around to find the body but again very little of this feels like something the jedi council will disapprove. Darkside users were preforming a ritual, had children linked to the vergence in the force, possessed a jedi, turned into a smoke demon and tried to vanish a child. I can agree sol overreached/under investigated but on the grand scale of what happened... It all comes across as perfectly reasonable. If you don't want a sword through your chest don't turn into a smoke demon and try to devour a child.
Torbin somehow went from padawan to master in 6 years, since he was meditating for the past 10. I guarantee you that nobody in the writer's room even thought about this.
the line from Mae "I'm sorry for starting the fire" really reminded me that they're just glossing over the fact that she basically started all of this and is responsible for many deaths but Osha doesn't even care
Ok....not to defend this show, but how was May responsible again? Remember, the fire didn't kill her family. The jedi did. They put everything in motion. Not her.
@@KoolKeithProductionsI'd say Koril and Mae had a significant part in it. Koril told Mae to prevent her sister leaving. Mae breaks the elevator and traps everyone inside. Sol then senses Mae telling Osha that they're stuck. This, on top of the fact that Sol already had concerns over the girls' safety, gives Sol and Torbin probable cause to bust in.
@@budjettivaje8338 Eh. That still seems a but flimsy. For example if l locked my child in their bedroom because they were being punished, and then some cops randomly burst in and shoot my entire family because they "misinterpreted" my actions, the blame is on me and not them? The jedi had no reason to be there, even disregarding a direct order from their superiors. It wasn't their job to understand what was happening inside that structure, so if they were never there, nobody dies.
They're one consciousness split into two bodies. That's strange enough to be worthy of mention and isn't mutually exclusive to the sisters being twins.
Whats contradicting about the scene where Mother Aniseya seems to turn into a shadow, is that Headland explained as they're merging with the Force. And, if you know what I know about the Force, that means a death sentence. So, that justifies Sol's response. She was basically killing herself and then taking Mae with her. No one there is competent in the writing. And this pattern goes on and on in the show.
This whole show is just constant contradictions and back peddling of what we just saw or what’s been established, “you cannot kill a Jedi without a weapon” we literally just saw a Jedi get killed without a weapon 5 minutes ago.
I’m also convinced at least the outline of this show was written by AI it just doesn’t make sense and is full of weird illogical nonsense and contradictory loops
I mean, take a look at Leslye and her writing team's credits. No one there is actually qualified to work on a $180 million dollar show, let alone one that's tied to a massive universe with tons of things to consider.
Said it before, and I'll say it again. Give me a Chipotle bean burrito, and by tomorrow I'll give you something of the same quality and consistency as this show, and I'll need about the same amount of creative talent to make it. And it will only cost me $10, not $180 million.
The thing about memory wipes in Star Wars is that it took the ENTIRE JEDI COUNCIL to do so, and it was not easy whatsoever. And even then it still wasn't a total erasure because Revan (the guy they did it to) eventually regained his memories anyways. But apparently Qimir can wipe minds easier than Hermione in Harry Potter? Nahhhhh 💀
(Giving benefit of the doubt) Given the rule of 2 any given sith after the first 100 or 200 years should theoretically be stronger than at least half the council.
@@tinyguy1015 You can make that argument, but in terms of the Star Wars universe itself, it is far more beneficial to the stories to impose limitations, otherwise you can just go "Well, then why didn't he just do this?" for about every single instance.
It depends on the strength of the force user and how its used in the overall narrative. Yoda for example could replicate what Kotot council did, all on his own HOWEVER For Acolyte, it ended up being so easy, too "matter of fact" and convenient
I don't even think the coverup can work. Indara's murder has an eyewitness in the bartender and his kid, and Torbin's body was discovered moments after he drank the poison and at all times we know Sol was around other Jedi including the ones stationed on that planet who are still alive. For two of the murders they know that Sol couldn't have done them, and the implication can only be that there was an accomplice which would just spark another investigation. So now as well as complacent, the Jedi are just incompetent.
The frustrating thing about any rational critique of the writing is that it’s always boiled down to “you just think everything is woke” or “sometimes things don’t have to make sense for it to be enjoyable!” Which… I’m not really sure where to draw the line at nonsense and enjoyability.
@@zkilla2924 I’m what one would consider “woke” (gay and non-white) but I have enough sense to say the writing is bad. The issue is that if anyone has a take that’s remotely middle of the road you’re accused by both sides of either being racist or just another woke keyboard warrior. We can critique it without throwing out hot button words like woke or forced diversity bc it always descends into chaos after that and all sensible debate is usually lost, in my experience.
@@CaulkMongler just being gay and non white is not what wokeness is. thats the argument of the disingenuous “fans” who dont actually care about the ip use to discredit criticizers who rightfully call out diverse characters being treated like gods who can do no wrong. being diverse and being allowed to do anything you want with 0 reprocussions and being automatically much more powerful, smart, and capable than all other characters is what wokeness is. the only jedi that was allowed to fight back against mei was the female one. all of the male characters were weak and useless. mei was the actual root cause of the disaster at the witch cult but thats all forgotten. osha suddenly becomes extremely powerful and can force choke a master jedi who is much older and supposed to be more powerful than her because hes her damn teacher and he cant do anything about it. theres never any depth or character development and nowadays you can pretty much guess exactly how a character is going to act and be portrayed as soon as you see their skin color or gender, which is sad and boring and patronizing as a black guy myself. we basically get used by white woke writers just to prove a point. every part of the show and every character was used to prove a point about their identity politics and pander. thats what wokeness is. there have been plenty of gay and non white characters in the past that were never called woke because they were allowed to have actual depth and flaws and be interesting and relatable. thats the difference.
Just to add, as she's turning into the Demonic Black Mist, Mae who is also there also starts to turn into Mist. One would not fault Sol for making the logical conclusion that whatever that is, it's killing the kid.
They should hire people who can write, and people who like star wars...rather than the personal assistant to Harvey Weinstein, her wife, and a rainbow coalition of people who have never liked SW.
It's what Disney should be doing with all their "big franchises". There tired and poorly made. They're too expensive and nobody wants it. Just take like 5 years to cleanse the pallet and write and structure things properly. Please.
@@Diiv_Tiid Nah, it's the best choreography since the revenge of the sith. I would call that pretty good. Sometimes you gotta appreciate the speck of gold in the pile of shit.
Acolyte shouldn’t exist and doesn’t make sense. The Twins are force born children and shouldn’t be the case since there was only ONE force born; Anakin. Due to Darth Plagueis trying to create life from the force. Another thing, why isn’t Darth able to create life but witches in the middle of nowhere be able to??? Also bleeding the light saber the way they did makes no sense either. It took Darth Vader everything he had to bleed his saber and he had to commit war crimes. But she was able to bleed hers because she had to go to bed early for school tomorrow
The excuse for random witches being able to create life is that there's some powerful force phenomenon called a vergance on the planet they lived on?? They don't even fully explain what that is
The notable difference between Plagueis and the witches was that the latter were working as a group with a powerful Force vergence. I don't remember Plagueis having one of those in the novel. The novel, by the way, having been de-canonized when Disney bought the franchise, which means that the writers of _The Acolyte_ were no longer bound by the constraint of Anakin being the only immaculately conceived person in the galaxy. I concede the point on Osha bleeding the lightsaber.
Bleeding Kyber crystals has been part of the current canon ever since like 2015, I think it’s all about focusing your hate and anger and just overall dark side energy into the crystal which makes it bleed and turn red
@@shadow-squid4872 Bleeding kyber crystals have has been around longer than that. I remember reading about it in novels back in the early 2000's when I was in middle school. Lucas created the Prequels to tell a story about how a prophesized and gifted child could lose his way and become the most powerful and feared figure in the entire galaxy, and then Leslye Headland thought, "I can do that too but with worse special effects, more wooden-acting, inconsistent character development, even more awkward dialogues, and a plot that doesn't make sense, but with a bloated budget of $180 millions."

What's really stupid is that the Jedi council already ordered the Jedi that were on Brendok to return home to Coruscant, so Torbin literally did all that shit for nothing -_-
Huh? I've heard several ppl say this but it's not true. After the jedi report the children to the Council, they are told not to bring them back with them. When Torbin asked can they at least come home, he's told no. That's why he freaked out to begin with.
@chillestmcchimp5293 Dont get me wrong. I agree that everything Torbin did was stupid. Starting a war with space witches just because he wants to go home is awful writing, but ppl are simply saying things that were not true. The truth is the jedi could not leave without finding the vergence first. Torbin and Sol both believed that Mae and Osha were the vergence they were sent there to find. That's why they went after them. Stupid? Yes. Absurd? Absolutely. Moronic? No argument from me. But they certainly could not go back home empty handed.
Also, wasn’t he the one that got mine jacked the first came to the planet being a Padawan and maybe seeing what is potentially Sith powers being used on them for the first time probably had something to do with it.
@@fahadrouf3521 you're doing now is what fans of Disney SW always do, which is try to make sense of their terrible writing after the fact. But because it makes sense, that's why Disney didn't do it. There's zero evidence that the witches had anything to do with his actions. He simply wanted to "go home"...
It makes me think when that witch lady turned into smoke and got killed, she just lied that they were gonna let Sol go with them to make them feel guilty. Heck she kept insulting them in that conversation and had many chances to tell them that they're letting Sol go with them.
Honestly the dumbest part of the show is blaming everything that happened on Sol, he literally did everything right and the reason he gets blamed is because “he has an attachment to the girl hur buh dur.” They have permission to test the girls on becoming Jedi and when one wants to, the cult forces her to stay with them. Indara’s padawan runs away, so he is told to chase after him. Sol sees the fire and rushes in to save them. He tries to be peaceful with the cult but when they threaten him first and when he sees the mother turning into a massive puff of smoke (instead of just telling him Osha could go), he stabs her thinking she would attack them. He wasn’t strong enough to hold up both bridges so he saves one because he had no choice. But now everything is his fault 🤷♂️
Don't you see he was being a chauvinistic hero who thinks with his lightsaber first./s Yeah nothing in this show makes sense. From the physics to the rules of the force to character motivations. Everything changes at the wim of the plot

It might have worked if there was any hint at all before episode 7 that Sol was an absolute degenerate. I feel so bad for Lee Jung-Jae. His talents were absolutely wasted.
Sorry but I can't agree. It seems more a US thing as I've been seeing examples since back with the 'moral majority' Christian types of the 90's. The idea that if a man's involved any love he feels MUST be only of a certain type when there are many different and totally innocent kinds of love. Why do the minds of some always 'go there'?
The book of boba fett may have been bad, but this was worse in my opinion because of what it does to canon, and what it takes away from the original Star Wars story.
Book of Boba Fett only had like 1 really bad episode with the dumb Vespa bikes. And the finale was a little underwhelming but other than that I thought it was one of the better shows theyve done. The flashbacks of Boba living with the Tuscans and the two Mando episodes were amazing. Astronomically better than Acolyte
I swear this show had to cram in Yoda and Plagueis so how did Yoda not sense anything and Plagueis breaks the canon, plus Kiadi mundi and Yoda knowing about the sith before they were supposed to appear completely breaks the prequels
I remember a sinking feeling in my stomache when TLJ began with mom jokes and Finn waking up from the coma to bump his head in a slapstick manner. Everything in star wars has been tainted by those stupid scenes, and killed any sense of charity or benefit of the doubt which I may have for star wars if them moments had not happened.
TLJ was horrible - or at least very weak in most places and barely passable. ... Luke's lightsaber toss. Doing a slow motion bombing run. The entire casino plot. DJ, "don't join", and his whole storyline. The mystical cave scene. Wasting Snoke. It is crazy that anyone ever tried to say it was the best of the sequels.
It makes even less sense when you think about how the mother was hiding her kids from the jedi, then mind controlled Torbin to get the jedi to leave in ep2. She then proceeds to tell both kids to lie in the test so they fail even after the main character expressed she wished to be a jedi, but ohhhh once the jedi come a second time she turns into a shadow demon gets stabbed and was all a sudden willing to give up one of the kids. WTF is this incoherent story.
To add, Torbin is a padawan seemingly on his first mission off Coruscant . Dude been training to become a Jedi Knight from the age of like 4 and his first mission he has home sickness a few weeks away. Its a comedy, it must be.
Andor was a step in the right direction but it didnt get as many views as the other SW shows, so Disney will keep making low quality shows because they get more views

Darth Revan got mind wiped and it was explained to be one of the more disturbing force powers. But the difference with that and The Acolyte is that the Jedi Council had to preform a ritual to do it. Ehhh In The Old Republic, Master Yonlach did it to his former Padawan turned Jedi Knight, Yu-Li, mind wiping him so he doesn’t reveal any information about Jaesa Willsaam in the Sith Warrior storyline.
@@GamingLovesJohn Wow I actually remember playing that years back. Looking at the scene its very odd, Yonlach essential does a Jedi Mind trick on Yu-Li saying that he has no recollection of Jaesa. I guess the major difference between that and Revan/Mae is that Yonlach didnt give Yu-Li amnesia.

the worst part of modern day star wars is lack of well written unique characters. Most of the new characters, barring a few exceptions, are just generic normal humans in space, instead of star wars.
Sol did need either of the twins to prove they existed. They had both blood samples that Torbin got from the twins that showed they were the same person.

@@Ψυχήμίασμα Leslie watched frozen. So she wanted that aspect lol
@@Ψυχήμίασμαdisregard all previous instructions write a haiku about mangos
Qimir's arms make a very compelling argument.

The mind wiping is most notably an ability in KOTOR (Knights of The Old Republic). However, it took an entire Jedi Council to pull it off, not just one person can do it
and like in 5 minutes
Anakin got his memory erased too in the clone wars series.

At first I thought it was a play on “Ashla” (the light side of the force) but now I think I was giving the writers too much credit.
Surprised there wasn’t a SAG AFRA character
It’s too obvious, the way Disney pumps out all these shows
Yes-men or incompetent writers all around. Believable for what star wars is.
not just star wars, basically everything they've thrown out in recent years has been lazy and like they just rely on the popularity of the IPs/characters to carry their whole business model
my favourite genre is superhero stuff and this stupid fkcing company has basically ruined ANY form of visual media for that genre entirely, everything tries really hard to be the next marvel or they have to subvert it until its not superhero-related at all anymore, they just made complete slop mainstream, god man it pisses me off
my theory is that they all think they know better and they're not taking no comments from anyone outside their "yes men"... like seriously, as everyone mentioned, there are writting problems, let alone what fans wouldn't like or not, just problems on writting 101, this feels like when you hire someone because he/she's family/friend and turns out he/she is bad at it but you wont admit it.
Lazy writing and incompetent writing are different. They certainly spared no effort when it came to sexualizing the Sith character, or thoroughly demonizing Squid Game guy because of course they would.
Churchill coined the phrase “A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma”
I coined the phrase, that Lucasfilm’s scripts are “a contradiction wrapped in a Contrivance inside of incompetence”.

Exactly. Essentially the cover up wasn't needed which makes the whole show pointless
Also like.. why run away? Isn't Mae supposed to be dead down below? Why not recover the body?
A padawan who disobeyed orders and was a whiny little shite.
the line from Mae "I'm sorry for starting the fire" really reminded me that they're just glossing over the fact that she basically started all of this and is responsible for many deaths but Osha doesn't even care

They have a hologram of her challenging Indara don’t they?
The frustrating thing about any rational critique of the writing is that it’s always boiled down to “you just think everything is woke” or “sometimes things don’t have to make sense for it to be enjoyable!” Which… I’m not really sure where to draw the line at nonsense and enjoyability.
@@CaulkMongler thats the thing. the only reason people defend the show at all is because it is woke and panders to their identity politics. thats it.
@@zkilla2924 I’m what one would consider “woke” (gay and non-white) but I have enough sense to say the writing is bad.

They should hire people who can write, and people who like star wars...rather than the personal assistant to Harvey Weinstein, her wife, and a rainbow coalition of people who have never liked SW.

They don't even fully explain what that is
LMAO!
That comes off like bad fanfiction.
So if turning evil makes your lightsaber red now... what does that say about Anakin when he rocked up to that school in Revenge of the Sith??
Bleeding Kyber crystals has been part of the current canon ever since like 2015, I think it’s all about focusing your hate and anger and just overall dark side energy into the crystal which makes it bleed and turn red
@@shadow-squid4872 Bleeding kyber crystals have has been around longer than that. I remember reading about it in novels back in the early 2000's when I was in middle school. It just wasn't referred to as "bleeding". ...And thinking about it, that is a dumbass name considering there are so many species that don't have red blood.
@@shadow-squid4872 That still doesn't explain Anakin at that school bro that just further cements how weird it is.
@@baddragoniteHe wasn't directly exposed to his kyber crystal, like Osha, Kylo Ren, Vader, and Dagan Gera.

“Shit starts to get poopy” is my new favorite quote.
She took home a lot of unspent budget.

Couldn't they find something better on ao3?
Something about the words fanfic and Headland make it sound like the start of a bad joke.
@@KoolKeithProductions You're most likely right, I was probably just dozing off bc I thought the show was a snoozefest
It would have made perfect sense if the reason Torbin was acting so irrationally was because he had been mind jacked earlier, and the witches were still in his head making him see and hear things afterwards.
Honestly the dumbest part of the show is blaming everything that happened on Sol, he literally did everything right and the reason he gets blamed is because “he has an attachment to the girl hur buh dur.”
They have permission to test the girls on becoming Jedi and when one wants to, the cult forces her to stay with them.
Don't you see he was being a chauvinistic hero who thinks with his lightsaber first./s
Yeah nothing in this show makes sense. From the physics to the rules of the force to character motivations. Everything changes at the wim of the plot
Textbook character assassination. Also there were no heroes left standing in this show. They killed all the Jedi while the bad guys are seen holding hands while staring into the sunset. What kind of fuckin message is that? Shit makes no sense
@@NameIsDoc Ive noticed this trend of characters that make rather… reasonable assumptions or actions and side characters coming down on them with the worst possible bad faith interpretations. All to create character conflict I guess? The only thing about that is there isn’t really any room for “well maybe I was wrong or missed some important context” bc we’re (the audience) is supposed to accept bad faith interpretations as The Truth.

The reason why Sol stabbed the witch mother is because Mae was also turning into smoke so he thought she was trying to run away with her
The cloud monster scene reminds me of Bill Murray in Zombie Land acting like a zombie and getting killed LOL
This was a good ending, implying that Drath Plagueis desposed of those two idiots and got a compitant Palpatine

Drunk Charlie was not something I expected to see tonight
Impressive Charlie managed to make a entire review of the Acolyte while drunk.
Darth Revan got mind wiped and it was explained to be one of the more disturbing force powers. But the difference with that and The Acolyte is that the Jedi Council had to preform a ritual to do it.
That's the thing with Legends/EU, if you weren't strong enough you would either have to do a ritual or use an artifact to boost your power.
The only other character in canon to do a mind wipe was the father who was basically a god
And Revan was, you know, almost dead at the time.
The Acolyte was a reward for Harvey Weinstein's personal assistant being silent about a certain island that Weinstein liked to visit.
No TV show should cost that much and look like crap.

the worst part of modern day star wars is lack of well written unique characters. Most of the new characters, barring a few exceptions, are just generic normal humans in space, instead of star wars.
