    I made the decision to go from DSLR (D3300) to mirrorless. I hear great things about the A6600, especially for my purposes; action shots of my girls playing softball and family photos. BUT... this makes the second video I have watched today that mentioned the lack of a built-in flash. I really don't use one that often, but for someone reason that almost makes this a dealbreaker for me. Gotta do more research I guess.

      Yeah I hear ya ;) I have learned to not use the flash mostly, but instead carry a small portable video light for when extra light is needed.

    Awesome review! One thing to add for vlogging, none of these cameras will have awesome stability like GoPro. You might want to save money and buy the cheaper option (6400) and a gimbal which is extra weight especially with the 6600 it will need a lager gimbal due to the weight. Look at stability videos during movement to see what will fit your needs. Also, rolling shutter is an apparent issue in these cameras without a gimbal.

    I love/hate the Sony system and am still happy with my a7r and a6000 with all my mixed bag of lenses, old FDs, the Sigma Trio, E and FE kit lenses.

      Hey John I appreciate the comments! Sales are down across the board, but there are always some people looking to buy new cameras, it just depends on where your at in life I suppose ;) I just recently purchased the A6400, because my Nex-6 was working great for so long. Then 4k came out, so I felt like I really needed to upgrade considering what I do on this channel and all ;) I also have the original A7R and it still works awesome for photography in particular as long as the subjects are not moving to fast ofcourse....

    Well done comparison.
    I think Sony removed the flash from the A6600 to make it more weather-proof.
    Comparing price of the A6600 to the A7III - well, it is apples and oranges. APS-C cameras are lighter, and comparable lenses are both significantly lighter in many case, and a LOT less expensive for quality glass. You get a whole lot more bang for the buck with APS-C, even the top of the line A6600 than you do with ANY full frame camera, and a fine outfit weights a lot less too. I for an am sticking with APS-C.
    Cheers

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  4 года назад

      Great points Bob and thank you for the comments! APS-C is certainly the bang for the buch as far as sensor size, weight, and output quality. The 2x crop factor M43 systems are also pretty amazing in that regard, but I still prefer the larger 1.5x sensor systems for more depth of field control. Jay

For lighting I was using a very affordable Impact Incandescent lighting kit (bhpho.to/316Kl9s).. however, I am now in the process of upgrading my Lighting to LED's though... (amzn.to/2BxZQw4)

    I think the A6400 is the value choice here, wen considering features vs price. However, the biggest choice factor is that 100 grams. I use a gimbal anyway (the A6600 IBIS is not good enough to eliminate the gimbal) and it should be noted that the A6400 with lens is at the top limit of the Feiyu Tech G6 Plus payload limit (which is 800 grams), while the A6600 is too heavy with most lenses, and requires a heavier gimbal like a Zhiyun Crane. This makes a huge difference in terms of strain on the arm. I too love the bigger battery, headphone jack, and IBIS, but that comes at the cost of an extra 100 grams. By the end of the day that 100 grams will feel like 500 or more :) then factoring in the weight of the Crane, it is a big lump. It is a significantly heavier camera than the A6400 on a G6 Plus.

    I am so torn over which sony mirrorless apsc I should get. I just started my own youtube channel and have been using my smartphone for all vid records so far.
    A step up to a6100 or a6400 will definitely be a major upgrade for me but which one? And could I start with the kit lens 16-50mm or would you recommend a more suitable fixed lens for overhead shots like how you did in this video?
    A6600 is a no go for me just because of budget. Besides, I believe I got alot to learn first on using a proper mirrorless camera before spending much more.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  4 года назад +2

      Hello, and for your situation I would recommend the A6100 or the more expensive A6400 if you want a few more features as mentioned in this video. The kit lens will work fine for you and allow you to figure out what focal range works for what you are doing. Then later you can invest is prime lenses if you wanted for better quality. For this overhead shot I was using my 18-55mm kit lens which Sony does not make anymore, because they replaced it with the new 16-50mm kit lens. I would also highly recommend getting a microphone that plugs into the camera mic port. SOmething like the Rode VideoMicro (bhpho.to/2yPeEWe) for example. I hope that helps?

    ALL new sony cameras are back to regular DSLR sizes.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the comments Micheal and they are certainly working there way back to the DSLR camera body format which I knew was inevitable from the beginning. They are not there yet though. I have been asking for the A99 II camera body in the mirrorless form for sometime and was hoping the A9 would adopt that type of body. It's the best camera body as far as ergonomics go that I have ever used, especially when holding large heavy glass. Canon and Nikon just went directly to the DSLR style with there first mirrorless bodies, which was smart in my opinion. Holding a camera with little to no gip and a large lens sucks, so Sony had no choice but to slowly work there way back. The ergonomics on the Sony mirrorless cameras have always been a complaint from some customers. I honestly feel this was their plan from the very beginning. They started with the ultra compact lightweight mirrorless Nex-5, which basically had almost no grip, and they have been getting larger ever since. Sony then branched out and the Nex-3 series was ultra compact, while the 5, 6, and 7-series got the more beefy grip. Now the A6600 has a near DSLR grip, but still could be drastically improved when compared to a crop facto DSLR camera like the A57 or A77 II for example... If you want an ultra compact camera, you are better off going with something like the RX100 series these days, or looking at a M43 camera system. Most of those camera bodies are significantly smaller. I wonder if SOny will come out with a 7-series at some point. If so, I think they should adopt the A77 II style camera body and just call it a day ;)

      @@Jason_Hermann / yeah. agreed.
      EVen Olympus and Panasonic has grown larger...
      Canon and Nikon were right in the ergonomics department.
      BUT
      both are slow to IBIS, so that leaves SONY way ahead out there.

    With so many over zealous measurebators contradicting each other on their reviews of the a6600, etc. I upgraded my a5100 getting a new iPhone instead - that could do much more than take photos.
