Really excellent companion video. You covered it all. 7yrs later, the A6000 is still a remarkable camera and I love using mine, but you have given me serious desire to consider the A6400. Thanks for doing this video.
I think it’s all about what features you need. When it comes to picture quality they are very similar, apart from the colours which can be edited. Personally I would be fine with the a6000 or even an a5100, but the overheating, recording limit, and lack of flip-up screen makes recording guitar videos really inconvenient for mye use. The 6100 seems to be the apporipriate camera for me. The 6600 i think is overpriced, as one could get a used A7iii for less than that.
@@kristiangurholt59 "When it comes to picture quality they are very similar", in a broad daylight - yes they are similar, but when it comes to shooting in low light, you get that ugly green tint in shadows on a6000, and that is the manufacturer's fault which they fixed starting from a6300.
Would like to express thanks and compliments for your outstanding detailed and well researched Sony reviews. Current pricing is $800 for a6500, $900 for a6400, and $1200 for a6600. As you mention, these cameras have exceptional build quality and usually last for many years trouble free. So we can ignore a $100 price difference which would be an insignificant $20 per year costed out over 5 years of use. I chose the a6500 for IBIS and better body with larger grip and upgraded buttons/controls. If I were shooting professional video in the studio, I would have gone for the a6400, which is a better video camera. For video blogging and street video, I would bite the bullet and get the a6600 with everything including double battery life and IBIS. I recently upgraded from my beloved 5 year old A6000 to a A6400. I am super happy with the quality of life changes on the A6400, but man.. sometimes I miss the feel of using my old buddy. Keep yours tight, it's still super good and has a character for sure! :)

I recently bought a6000 on black Friday sales. It's still a great camera and it will be relevant even in 2020. Excellent image quality. If you have experience in photography, let's say with smartphone, but want to get a real camera with interchangeable lenses, go for a6000 and don't think twice.
I did the same thing. For a first camera, i dont justify the need to spend more. Also, i find the kit lens great to start with and learn. At least, me and my wife are totally blown by the image quality which already have that professional look(only with a month of use) and thats the only thing that matters. Happy shooting!
I got my a6000 about 2 years ago for £500, loved it, I have some of the most amazing pictures I've ever taken with that, I see now it's lowered to less than £270 I think, for body only, that's pretty amazing for what it's capable of. But after these years I definitely see room to upgrade, which is why now I'm jumping to the a6600, it's great that I still get to keep my range of lens for it.
A6000 will always be a good camera untill the 8k resolution cameras go cheaper than 5000 euros 😂, but still I'm never gonna change from a6000, all you need is the sigma trio lenses to be happy, I'm in love with the 16mm one. Most importantly, how good is the photo captured is depending on the user
I wonder why you don't have more subs, this is the best camera buying guide I've seen. I'll start watching more of your videos, I'm really on a budget but I want either, 6400 or the 6600 They would be perfect for my photography style, and I really want to start making great quality videos.
I've been working with weddings and events with a6500 for 3 yrs since it has been released. I'm considering the upgrade to a6600 just because of the battery life and eye AF on video. (pretty good for the bride entrance on weddings)
Amazing buyers guide. Watched the entire a6000-a6500 video before realizing there was an a6600! I was stuck between the 6400 and the 6500…but thanks to this video it worked in my favor because it is now a simple decision for the 6600. Thanks for these amazing guides!!!
This video is just a masterpiece, how couls someone be so perfect that you didn't missed any details, even explained everything without confusing in any point.
Color science has absolutely nothing to do with a decision I would make as I edit photos. Canon spins that and that's why i shoot Sony as it doesn't matter. Nice work you put out some great videos.
You are right, but a LOT of people, (especially casual users) dont edit photos. Ive taken thousands of photos and only edit for clients. So in those cases, better straight out of the camera colors make a difference.
I’ve been spinning my wheels trying to make sense of their crazy numbering and which model I most wanted (used). Thank you SO SO much for laying it all out so clearly. You’re an absolute lifesaver. Now, back to my hunting. Thank you.
Your video was so informative that I had originally bought the A6000 and paid for it but it hadn't shipped yet, and then after watching I cancelled it and ordered the A6400! THANK YOU THANK YOU.
Thanks Arthur! This is the best overview of the A6x00 series I've seen. I bought an A6500 a few years ago (and a bunch of spare batteries) and have been very happy with it.
I think this is the first camera video where I ACTUALLY understand what they're talking about and can make a good purchasing decision. Thank you so much for the great and easy explanation❤🤸♀️ highly appreciate it!!
Watched this entire video from start to finish, and it was EXTREMELY helpful in deciding which of the new cameras to upgrade too. I've been a little out of the loop on what all the new cameras have been, since I've been rocking the a6300 and RX100 V for so long now, and they've been doing me well - but that continuous video shooting on these new models and the new color science really eliminate all issues I was thinking about with the other cameras. Time to upgrade! Thanks, Arthur - great video and lots of help!
Any of these cameras would be fine for that type of photography. Youd likely need a macro lens for up close shots of smaller rings. Sony 90mm Macro is a great one.
Can't believe I spent 3 days looking for a video that clarifies my doubts and here it is finally. You're amazing! Summed up everything that a potential buyer needs to know!
I recently upgraded from a6000 to a6500, because I could pick it up cheaper than either a6100 or a6400, and since I have the Sigma trio and using it almost 100% on photo, I just felt I can give up the better autofocus and the color science for the IBIS. I didn't try the AF performance of the newer lineup, but it's still great on the a6500, and I love the IBIS. Therefore, for this price, I do believe that a6500 > a6100, because of the body, the IBIS, the EVF and back screen resolution, the buffer size, and also that Sony missed out the min. SS on auto iso function from the a6100, which is a bummer. Thanks for the great videos, keep it up!
I would like to thank you for explaining the chronological releases of the Sony a6x00 series. As well as the pros and cons of all of them. After watching this video you made me reconsider looking into the a6x00 series for video recording in 2020. Great job Arthur.
This is a fantastic video! I've watched loads of A6XXX comparison videos but this video nailed it for me. Your knowledge of these cameras is unmatched and your delivery kept me watching the whole video. Thank you so very much.
Thanks for the comparative video on this Arthur. I've just bit the bullet and upgraded my Sony Nex-7 to the Sony A6400 .. Managed to pick up a mint boxed body only 6400 with just 2000 shutter activations for $865 (sealed new body only is $1300 here in the uk) Hope i've made a good choice lol
Great video, really informative as always, my main problem with the a6600 is that (in the UK) the a7iii is now about the same price and having owend and loved my a6500 for 10 months i will still rather spend the money moving to full frame, the form factor really isn't much bigger and the raw files just seem to have so much more to them, but that's just my personal experience.
I have an A7 and anA5000. I was looking for a silver A6000 but couldn’t find one lately. I don’t like to take out my A7 because of how expensive it is and bought every silver emount song lens for my A5000. For my toddler’s preschool graduation, I was just going to use my iPhone 13 pro for a camera but, decided to take my A5000 with my 18mm-200mm lens. Man, was that a great decision. Every photo came out nice and clear. Easy to zoom in and out. These sony cameras are amazing.
Dude, great video with a very complicated comparison paradigm. It’s difficult enough to compare two cameras, let alone 6. But you did so excellently!!!
First time I make a comment on RUclips video. I am Buying a camera for my son’s weekend soccer games and the heating comparison was really helpful in making my decision.
Wow Arthur! This video is fantastic! Thank you sooo much for explaining everything about these cameras. I’m planning to upgrade my a6000 and have been confused about all the upgrades and model numbers, but you gave such an amazingly informative explanation that I feel like I’m an expert in the Sony alpha 6000 family. Thank you! Thank you! Thousand thumbs up!!!!
Thank you Arthur! For making this video very simple to understand, I’m thinking of getting the a6100 I feel like it’s abit cheaper can still can create beautiful photos!
This was really helpful. I currently have the a6000 but am looking to upgrade and have done a lot of research but you laid this out very clearly. I had already kind of landed on the a6400 so I'm glad that's what you recommend and why since budget is definitely a factor. Thank you so much!
Phenomenally informative video! I was always confused about the a6000 cameras and now I totally get it thanks to this video. Very well paced and clear!
I had a lot of doubts because I wanted to change my old a6000 and this is THE video. Thank you so much for helping this huge community! Greetings from Spain :)
Thanks for an excellent review of the Sony A6xxx models. After 7 years of trouble-free use with my NEX-6 (1-2 generations older than. the A series), I planning to step up to (probably) the A6400. Planing next trip to Ireland, Scotland, and UK when the Covid thing goes away. By the way, I have been a subscriber to Audible for 4 years; I listen to audio books most every day when working, traveling and exercising. Great service!! Thanks again for taking the time to provide this in-depth review. Just subscribed to your channel.
@ArthurR Still waiting on two videos from you: Sony 85 vs Sigma 56 comparison on APSC bodies, and Tamron Zooms on APSC bodies. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING AND MERRY CHRISTMAS 🐐
This is the best comparison. I'm a beginner with no experience in photography and I would like to buy one of these cameras with a lens, this is a great help
This is by far the best video about comparing cameras, with an intelligent discussion about the why's and wherefore's of each model. My scoring grade is A++++++++++++++++!
The A6600 has a menu and C3 button whereas the other cameras have menu and “flash” button. By removing the pop up flash they made room for another custom button. I’ll use that extra button way more than the pop up flash.
@S Tra depends what u gonna do, for street photography after sunset or for modern style (2000ish) fashion photography a built-in flash is a good feature. And portable, for sure
This is brilliant. I am relatively new to photography and, until now, have been completely befuddled by the Sony 6xxx line. It's now really clear. With my budget, it's the a6100 or a6400 for me. As I will be doing very little travelling and the camera will spend most of its life set-up on a tripod, the a6100 probably is the wisest choice.
I love my A6000 5 years old still punching! I have my new A7iii but im still using my A6000 ❤️ they are great cameras. Great review Arthur sony APS-C master! 🙌🏻🤝
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Achilles Marcos thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This video by Arthur is the best I've watched about these Sony aps-c cameras. My business is broadcasting and shooting videos and my choice is 6600/6400/6100. 3 pieces for shooting interviews and live broadcasts of 2 people in the studio and on the street. Many thanks!
Great review! I upgraded from A6000 to A6400 so I don't miss IBIS since I never had it. What I don't understand if that when tiny GoPro's and 360 cameras have almost perfect image stabilization by processing the footage internally from a large buffer, Sony could not use a similar solution in the A6400. The processing power is probably sufficient.
From what understood after a few years with a6400 and then ZV-E10 (sold them both at the end), is that even gyro stabilized video will require additional crop and high shutter speed. 1/50th + digital stabilization will make steady motion but image will blur out every time there is any significant movement. Additionally GoPro lens are 2.8mm @ 1/2.5" sensor so ~6x crop, even with that it's only 16.8mm lens in terms of Full Frame. That would require 11.2mm lens on APS-C camera, much wider than usual suspects of 16mm, 24mm etc. And then there is next thing, when I used ZV-10 with 16mm Sigma f1.4 the motion of the camera was actually really smooth, I guess that wide angle helps a lot compared to 30mm and up, but what no gyro or stabilization can do is fix slow sensor readouts resulting is micro stutters, jello rolling shutter etc, and it gets only worse if you up the shutter speed.
I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out the differences between these cameras. Finally, one video to answer EVERY question! I now know what I need to get to accomplish my goals. Thank you!!!
My most recent camera purchase is the A5100, which is in addition to my A7R IV and A6500. I noticed that you stopped doing comparisons to this camera in your latest guides, but I suggest that this camera has a very unique place in the Sony mirror less line up. I bought the A5100 because I wanted the highest quality pictures that I can get in a camera that I can carry in my pocket. I carry the body in one pocket, and usually the Samyang 18 mm 2.8 in my other pocket. It ends up that I take this camera with me very often, when I want to have a camera with me "just in case", or at restaurants, or social outings. And I can easily set it to intelligent auto and give it to my wife or friends to use as a "point and shoot". I believe this camera gives the same quality images as the A6000, A6300, and A6500. I wish the A5100 would be upgraded along with the latest cameras and further. I also wish some controls could be placed on the body to allow experienced users or professionals to use it more easily. But as it is, the A5100 gives incredible "bang for the buck".

Do you think it’s a good buy in 2021 ? Or should I go for something else as it’s too old now ?
Thank you.
Damn. You are a good history teacher.
Hello!
which of these cameras would you recommend for jewelry photography and which lens should I use? I would appreciate any help 🙌🏻
You are the most credible and reliable channel I go to when I want to look up cameras. And also the least click baity
Sony model #'s are definitely confusing to track.
I have the A6300 with me for 2 years and i adore it, gonna make a review myself soon
A6300 IS TIER
I’ve had the a6300 for the same amount of time as you! I really like it. Not sure if I should upgrade.
This is a fantastic video! I've watched loads of A6XXX comparison videos but this video nailed it for me. Your knowledge of these cameras is unmatched and your delivery kept me watching the whole video. Thank you so very much.
THANK YOU! i was just researching the whole line trying to pick one to buy. settled on beginning video making with a6100
strong choice 💪
I really appreciate how in-depth this is, and how well you showcased all of the features. Such a good review! Thank you!
I love the way how you guided this Sony series, slow to make sure viewers understand, much appreciate! Thanks!
Just upgraded from an a6000 to an a6600 so happy with the upgrade!
I own the a6400 and when combined with the sigma primes, then both the video and the photos are breathtakingly beautiful!
I’ve been watching Sony camera reviews like crazy for the last couple of weeks
Yours was BY FAR the best one I’ve seen!
Keep it up!
week ago i bought my Sony A6400 and i am very happy with it , specially the auto focus system :)
Haven't seen such detailed review on RUclips since ages. Excellent work!
Nice Arthur! All great cameras. I’m partial to the A6400 because of it value for money. Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays!
Greatest review that I had ever seen on youtube about sony a6x00 series cameras.
This video is just perfect, it's complete, clean and incredibly easy to understand. Keep the awesome work ma man.
this is the best buying guide and comparison video of cameras that i've ever watched... awesome
well done, sir ! 👌🏼

man, so impressed with this video. and i even wated the a6000 - a6500 vid just yesterday. great content
Thank you Arthur! For making this video very simple to understand, I’m thinking of getting the a6100 I feel like it’s abit cheaper can still can create beautiful photos!
Great choice! I still use my A6100 all the time.
Love to see all the Axxxx series all together.
I have got A6400, A5100, and planning to get another A6600 next year.
This review vid is now the standard of what a great quality, info-packed video should be. Great job.
This was really helpful. I currently have the a6000 but am looking to upgrade and have done a lot of research but you laid this out very clearly. I had already kind of landed on the a6400 so I'm glad that's what you recommend and why since budget is definitely a factor. Thank you so much!
any camera model above a6000 will feel like a huge upgrade,,, I did a low light test video not long ago a6000 performance is horrible
Arthur I am SO GLAD I found your channel. I have been checking n asking n comparing like crazy but not anymore. Thankyou so much. God bless you !!!
Awesome! Thank you for watching!
The most thorough breakdown of the A6000 series. Thank you!
W video! Gonna do some more research on the A64 & A66 and decide on which one I want to replace my G7X Mark II. 💪🏽
Phenomenally informative video! I was always confused about the a6000 cameras and now I totally get it thanks to this video. Very well paced and clear!
I had a lot of doubts because I wanted to change my old a6000 and this is THE video. Thank you so much for helping this huge community! Greetings from Spain :)
i love watching review videos about tech i already have HAHAHAH a6400 is really great
Dried Soup jump in stills? Or mostly video? I own the A6000 but shoot stills and don’t know if A6400 is worth the upgrade.
Really nice video! I love the effort you put in this comparison. Merry Christmas
Brad Norling the pop up flash is a feature I have never even considered using.
Pop up flash is useless
@@lmenzol why ?
@S Tra depends what u gonna do, for street photography after sunset or for modern style (2000ish) fashion photography a built-in flash is a good feature. And portable, for sure
Thankyou for sharing this indepth video... It cleared all my doubts 🙂
nice comparison and can be a buying guide. thanks Arthur
I dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account??
I stupidly forgot the password. I appreciate any tips you can give me!
@August Rodrigo Instablaster ;)
@Achilles Marcos thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Achilles Marcos It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my account :D
@August Rodrigo glad I could help xD
And then there is next thing, when I used ZV-10 with 16mm Sigma f1.4 the motion of the camera was actually really smooth, I guess that wide angle helps a lot compared to 30mm and up, but what no gyro or stabilization can do is fix slow sensor readouts resulting is micro stutters, jello rolling shutter etc, and it gets only worse if you up the shutter speed.
thank you for the breakdown of each camera, I was looking at getting the A6000 and now I have a whole host of other good cameras to think about.
Thank you! I watched your video and bought lens from your recommended. Now your showed me a6100 or a6400 is a good replacement for my a6000.
I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out the differences between these cameras. Finally, one video to answer EVERY question! I now know what I need to get to accomplish my goals. Thank you!!!
What a great and simple explanation.
Thank you, Arthur.
Finally someone who was honest and clear!!!
I’m definitely looking forward to purchasing one of your top 3 choices God willing 👍👍👍
Superb review, i was always confused with all those models.
2022 and I couldnt be more happier to find this video..thank you for this guide!! really informative.
You just made my life a lot easier, your in dept review has helped me make a choice, the A6400 it is...
Me too
Which shoukd i buy A6400 or a6500?
The in body image stabilization is probably the feature I would appreciate the most. Thanks for the detailed video, clears things up for me!
My most recent camera purchase is the A5100, which is in addition to my A7R IV and A6500. I noticed that you stopped doing comparisons to this camera in your latest guides,
but I suggest that this camera has a very unique place in the Sony mirror less line up.
I bought the A5100 because I wanted the highest quality pictures that I can get in a camera that I can carry in my pocket. I carry the body in one pocket, and usually the Samyang 18 mm 2.8
in my other pocket.
I also wish some controls
could be placed on the body to allow experienced users or professionals to use it more easily. But as it is, the A5100 gives incredible "bang for the buck".
How in this world do you know all this info about all the models you never hesitated through all the features. Thanks for an extremely informative and helpful video. You destroyed what someone else previously said in his video about one of these. Awesome 👍🏽
I commend you tackling this subject of all of them together, good work! 👌🏻
Spectacular video..... It's crystal clear which camera is the best value!
this is such an amazing thorough review, thank you! you made my decision so much easier
I don't know which I enjoyed more, the excellent info you're sharing (exactly what I was looking for), or watching the beautiful lady glide through life like an angel.
I trust this guy. Keep it up lad:)
I only recently found this channel and I am loving it. Loved your content. So diligent and well researched.
