...Wait, I just realized the crows you are required to talk to _literally_ drop Mario's name first thing, and Vivian STILL doesn't react to that at all.
I'm very fond of the crow dialogue sound it's definitely really appropriate 7:43 and damn Rotbeak must smell REALLY unpleasant if average crows have names like Maude, Flo and Ronnie
I read somewhere that the explanation for why Doopliss can’t just kill the parrot is because he needs at least one individual to know his name, because otherwise he can’t exist.
Vivian kissing Mario for helping her finding the bomb, even if it's a dud, is pretty sweet. All of the kisses from the female partners in TTYD makes the plumber a gentleman material.
I like how in order to get into the last room of Creepy Steeple, you gotta go down the well. Much like how the big bad wolf entered the one house that he couldn't blow down in the Three Little Pigs: by going down the chimney. "Little Parrot! Little Parrot! Let me in!"🎸
4:18 Makes sense since this and the tattling are the only Paper Mario 64 overworld abilities that didn't get upgrades. 4:31 *Fiery Jinx, Rally Wink is Goombella's. 13:12 Should've treated this parrot better for him to be a better guard (and so give us a miniboss fight against him now that I think about it which could've been pretty cool).
It's really interesting - this episode here really shows how the game has aged in two very distinctive ways: what was updated, and what was not. Vivian's identity, once being a somewhat-obscure "joke", now changing into something remarkably heartwarming and progressive. Meanwhile, the Crows, originally meant to be characterized as very "with it", are now reflecting on subjects that... well, while they're still *relevant* , we're seeing parts of them that are well behind us. I do wonder what the verdict was on handling those lines - I guess figuring out how to update them was deemed too much trouble, finding a balance between modern relevance without... y'know, getting pretty bleak. Perhaps it risked ruining the "character" they presented? I wonder... Meanwhile, we get our keyboard fixed. It makes me wish Doopliss (finally, I can start calling him that again) had unique reactions to certain responses, getting anxious if you type out his name as accurately as possible while the letter is missing. "What, feel like something's missing? Gonna' P your... ah, nevermind..." The updated animations on the birds is also quite nice - seeing the Parrot actually flip out, and the Crows actually express despite their barely-visible sprites. While I do share the same sentiment - that there'd be other birds you could listen in on - at least you can return to see their dialogue update. Save the Parrot, though... they promptly go missing after this. While I hope they fly the coop after the events in Chapter 4, with Doopliss being the one responsible for keeping them fed... Oh dear.
easy way to get amazy dayzees is to try to put them to sleep, if it fails you can just run away and try again I find the location of the shortcut pipe a bit weird, would've benefitted to put it one screen over on twilight trail if you ask me ; like here your current goal is to confront doopliss about his real name, so your goal narratively is in twilight town, but in order to progress the game, once you enter the pipe, you then have to go back to twilight trail in order to trigger the doopliss event
I think Vivian might have taken too may "punishments" to the head. That might explain why she doesn't realize she's helping her sister's enemy. This even extends to her combat abilities, as she's forgotten her Fiery Jinx move (Rally Wink is from Goombella's moveset).
Considering that [NAME WITHHELD UNTIL NEXT EPISODE] was able to hide a lowercase letter, I assume that whenever Nameless Frank tries to tell people his name, the words just cease to come out, like a mute button.
3:21 I would've been more concerned if they went with that implication of Vivian being male, considering the first thing Vivian does to repay Mario's kindness is kiss him. Mario would be more concerned as well, since he's obviously straight. Though I guess they could've made it funny by having Mario collapse to the ground after the kiss, just like he did after Flurrie kissed him in Chapter 2. Still, I prefer what they actually went with over that alternative.
@@twindrill2852 True, I wouldn't know it back in 2004, but it became quite clear in 2016 because of Color Splash. He instinctively guards himself when approached by those Slurp Guys who suck him, but when these ladies approach him to try to give him a smooch, he doesn't even flinch.

3:22 It is definitely nice that they were able to bring a point that was originally in the Japanese version over to the English version finally. That being said, I don’t know if it’s because of the fact that I already knew about it, but this didn’t really feel all that special to me
I'm gonna be honest I don't really like how people act like the Japanese version having Vivian be trans was good. Sure, it was there but it was also played off as a joke with the partner selection menu straight up just calling her a boy that looks like a girl. I'm pretty sure the only version to have handled that whole thing in any sort of respectful manner was the Italian one of all things.
Yeah. They pretty much met in the middle for the remake. Previously the Japanese version had "she looks like a girl but she's actually a boy!!" as a recurring joke and the international versions cut that out entirely. Now everyone acknowledges that she's trans and the Japanese version takes it more seriously
@@toastr1255actually this was present in most languages. only being censored in english and german still i like how it went in this remake. instead of going with a direct "you are a man" they went with a much nicer approach, making a subtle reference in chapter 2, then vivian revealing it by herself here
I love how they made 100% sure the backtrack pipe is impossible to miss.
And yet, I forgot about it, I've taken more than 5 trips to and from Creepy Steeple post chapter 4, and not once did I think about the pipe...

9:30 and for once, speedrunners REJOICED at the addition of a dialogue choice!

There's some floor spikes you have to pass using Vivian in Chapter 5.
I'm pretty sure it's in the sewers, to get a key item.

Are those the spikes you can avoid by turning sideways in just the right spots? Or the spikes you can roll under?
