If you're interested in the technicalities, you're technically playing on the Act 2 level data from the moment Angel Island is set aflame, rather than when you actually transition to Act 2 itself. No fire, no level.

I’ve always wondered how the game goes if you beat those bosses too early. Imagine if the developers intended to give you a choice on whether you can stop those bosses from causing destruction in each zone early or not, so you can go through Act 2 with completely different levels than what you’re used to, or at least different versions of the same ones. That would actually be really cool!

I remember only once, as a kid, beating the Doomsday Zone in 45 seconds. I somehow boosted directly out the astroid field, grabbing all of the rings and but getting hit by an astroid, then had a perfect Eggman missle sequence. I was on the school bus playing on my Sega Nomad... I have never played that stage so perfectly since.

It actually kinda makes sense the Red Eye bursts into an animal, I mean, the eye is so small! Eggman has had to have atleast SOME space in that eye to fit an animal inside.

Though to be fair now we know due to the recent prototypes released (though we kinda already did) that the pc collection ost was the original sonic 3&k ost and that the music we all know from the genesis version was a late in development change.
maybe its not just about the alegations, maybe there are contracts and sega or the one responsible doesnt want to realease a port/modern version with the original ost. (which i ike better)

So I tested the thing out for myself. If you go to the death plane in the unloaded Act 2 of Angel Island, the game restarts. Right back to the SEGA splash screen.

i remember as a kid always trying to beat the first boss fight in sonic 3 as it actually drives the player to try to beat it because he appeared really fast and made you lose the fight in just a few seconds i would always get so close to beating him but i never could i later found out it was impossible to beat without cheating like bowser's first boss from bowser's inside story also being impossible to beat so it makes sense that i'm not the only person who tried to actually beat this first boss in sonic 3 it's really iconic because it's impossible actually challenges the player early on

It's honestly good foreshadowing. Sonic 3 they really tried to make everything connect without the use of locked in cutscenes and thsts really cool.

In a Tool Assisted Speedrun, it is actually barely possible to kill the Death Egg Zone Act 2 boss too early. Game soft locks as a result.
Sonic and Tails broke the space-time continuum by defeating the bosses when they weren’t suppose to and now they caused a paradox.
FACT: Destroying the act 1 boss in the looping area gives you a Sonic softlock!
