    Honestly, I'd hazard a guess and say the demo was recorded for a project meeting, showing off how the development was going without having to rely on external player input.
    It'd explain how long the demo was, and why it was showing off so many gimmicks.

      I agree. A noteworthy mention is that all of the unique Sonic sprites in this prototype seem to have been created for the purpose of the demo.

      If you load Angel Island 1 in the prototype, use debug to move to the leftmost part of the act, place a surfing Sonic object and quickly move back to Knuckles, then a single wave object will come out of Knuckles' hand during his animation. This leads me to believe Knuckles was meant to drop/throw something, but the object was deleted (or just not implemented) by the time the prototype was built.

    Maybe Sonic is pushing a rock? That would definitely explain Sonic going forwards without jumping for a long period, and there's a rock you can push in that very act in the final game (the rock is present in the proto but you have to break it instead of push it). No idea if pushable rocks are implemented in the proto.
    Also the inputs at the beginning are just plain odd.

    • @SilverSonic1992
      @SilverSonic1992  3 года назад +26

      You know, that could actually be it! Good thinking. Pushable rocks do exist in the prototype, but none are placed to my memory.
      The inputs at the start just seem to be the demo player emoting with the Knuckles cutscene. For example, notice how Sonic walks forward a bit when Knuckles gestures for him to come.

      Maybe earlier in development there were 2 trees where the first monkey dude was but the one on the left was cut to make things easier for the player to see, also the monkey dude may have been placed a bit too high I noticed that Sonic almost goes past the slope on the left but from the angle Sonic attacks it looks like he should be propelled more forward instead of backwards, just a thought.

  • @blackcloudgd
    @blackcloudgd 3 года назад +14

    This is quite interesting actually. This makes me think that the GameCom may have a few secrets regarding this prototype. On another note, this Sonic 3 Proto may be the most important Sonic game yet because of it's scrapped abilities, like the Drop Dash, which made it's way into Mania, the Air Dash, which made it's way into 3D Sonic games, and (This one is speculative) the Ring Throwing ability may have been the reason for Tails's attack in Sonic 06. They all started from here. It's likely that I'm wrong though.

    • @SilverSonic1992
      @SilverSonic1992  3 года назад +8

      It's an interesting idea, and I don't disagree that some things were inspired. The Air Dash (I've barely seen this mentioned anywhere for some reason) is actually an early version of Sonic's Hyper Sonic Dash attack. The coding itself is almost identical, aside from being older and more rudimentary.
