    Suggestion! You should change the camshaft position sensor, "about $23 bucks" at same time. Because when they go, which they do, you have to move compressor to change it. Slides in and out of block real easy with one bolt and a electrical connector. If sensor goes you'd be wishing you did change at the same time. Real easy with the compressor off already. 2 minutes tops! Just a suggestion only. Great video!

      @@joezapiain The camshaft sensor is on the upper engine block in front. The crankshaft sensor is located on the lower block left side right about 6" above oil pan. That's the one you need to move the compressor a bit to get at it. It's real tight.

    AC Leaks can be one of the trickiest things to pinpoint. The cleaner is AC system Flush solvent, you can find it in both aerosol cans or just non-pressurized containers (which require a separate tool to use).

    That particular ratchet I am using there is a Matco BFR128LFT ratchet, and it's one of my favorite tools, it has very fine teeth on the ratcheting mechanism which means that you only have to turn the handle a little bit before it "ratchets"

    This is in response to the "why not just replace the clutch comments?" Sure you can just replace the clutch in certain situations but if you really think about it, why? First off, the internals of the compressor gets plenty of where and tear during its life and if the external clutch is failed and you install a brand new clutch, you almost never get the proper lifespan out of the new clutch because the rest of the compressor fails well before that. Plus many times you have to do the entire AC job over again as only a rare few vehicles have enough room to remove a compressor clutch on the vehicle, To do it properly usually requires another new accumulator and performing much of the same labor and ac evacuations and recharges. Secondly, the prices of new compressors has dropped substantially. 5-15 years ago it was common place to install a re-manufactured compressor with new clutch due to cost instead of a brand new compressor. Nowadays technicians overwhelmingly choose a brand new compressor with clutch over re-manufactured compressor. Over the years of watching all of this, I have seen people spend way more money total hoping that putting just a clutch on will save money and time and in the long run, it rarely works out unless you have your own shop and can do all those procedures properly and don't mind doing a job over again.

    Got a leak somewhere in my 2000 Crown Vic. Add refrigerant and it holds for a few days then pressure drops off again. Added dye and I don't see anything seeping out anywhere on the condenser, lines or accumulator. I plan on replacing the o-rings, orifice tube maybe the accumulator. What is the name of that cleaner that you sprayed into the ports and condenser?

    That green cap is not part of the AC system, thats actually a test port for the Evaporative Emissions system. If you ever have a diagnotistic trouble code for an "EVAP Leak," you can pump low pressure smoke into that valve to check for leaks in the EVAP system.

  • @APDTY

    Most cars have a sticker under the hood that tell how many pounds of refrigerant the system holds, most cans of refrigerant are 0.75 lbs each. So if your car calls for 1.5 lbs, you would add 2 full cans.

  • @APDTY
    @APDTY  11 лет назад

    The clutch iself is replaceable, you typically need a specialty tool to pull they clutch/pulley assembly off of the compressor, unfortunately this tool can often cost almost the price of a whole compressor, which is why many people replace the whole compressor and clutch at once.

  • @APDTY
    @APDTY  13 лет назад

    @DonBell2007 6.5oz of Oil should be sufficient, The oil gets picked up by the refrigerant and circulated throughout the entire system, so as long as there is enough to go around, you will be fine.

    At 13:10 when you are tightening up the hose there is an air valve ( green cap ) on your right, what is that for? I have one on my Isuzu Hombre ( Chevy S10 ) and I never could fill the AC up even though I have been doing AC for thirty years.. My dads town car needs 8 ounces and I dont want to tackle it without knowing what that valve is for.

      haha damn you noticed that?, jk brake cleaner or alcohol is used often, however it is not the factory service manual way to flush, A steady flow of alcohol an help clean debris and oils out and it evaporates quickly, here is a link to the proper fish chemical: amzn.to/2iNb0jX

  • @APDTY

    The mechanic must have been reaching up under the dash and manually changing the position of the "Mode Door." I am not sure exactly how he would do that, but often you can remove the air door actuator and manually turn the flap from one position to another.

    I have a 1999 Lincoln Town Car and my controls for my air won't come on in the car. If your inside the car it sounds like you're running over gravel. When I popped my hood the sound appears to sound like a loose tool and is coming from the AC Compressor. The sound isn't constant, it comes and goes. Could this possibly be something wrong with the AC Compressor?

    To me,, my initial thoughts would be that the AC clutch has gone bad and shorted out the AC system. When an AC clutch fails it can make lots of horrible noises. If a clutch fails in a certain way, the clutch coil can become shorted out which will blow the main AC fuse, which "could" in turn then cause the AC control unit to not work. This is a theory though, and would verification by checking your fuses and AC compressor clutch.

    My car makes a noise from there whenever the ac is on? What could it be?

    • @apdty6639
      @apdty6639 9 лет назад

      2tooful It is normal to here some noise when the compressor comes on (When the AC is on) however if it is louder then a normal hum, then unfortunately the clutch or internal portion of the compressor is starting to fail. If the AC is working ok, then you could run by a shop and ask them to have a look. A thorough inspection of the belt, tensioner and all pulleys is a good idea to make sure nothing else is failing, but most likely that is the beginning of compressor failure.

    How would I replace just the AC Compressor Clutch?

  • @APDTY
    @APDTY  11 лет назад

    The Clutch by itself isn't a huge price difference between the entire assembly, in this case the owner of the car wanted to go ahead and knock out two birds with one stone. Why leave an original compressor on a car with almost 200k miles, when for a little bit more you can replace it and the clutch.

      ***** You just never know. You can do all the work to replace it and find out immediately or a week later it is no good. An AC compressor that sits in a scrap yard and then goes back into daily service is rarely a good combination.
