Wonderboy the most likeable and real fighter in the UFC. Guys just a genuine dude who loves competing and teaching. Great videos man looking forward to more breakdowns and vlogs
Would love to see more videos on striking while moving. Man people can strike. Many people can move. But far less can strike AND move and even fewer can do it well and in every direction. Yes plenty of professional fighters who struggle with that as well.
Great video. Another way to mentally visualize this is that your front foot and back foot are connected by a big rubber band. So when the front foot starts to slide, you want to pull/push the rear foot because of the rubber band effect. Same with the front foot and the front (jabbing) hand. The front foot is moving, pulling the front hand forward into the jab. Bruce Lee would sometimes move the jabbing hand first to minimize telegraphing, so for him the front jabbing hand starts, pulls the front foot, then pulls the back foot -- again just thinking about rubber bands between all of them.
Yea a clear difference as in its 2 different techniques as he said in this video there are multiple types of jabs that have different strategies applied to them . . . But thanks for the youtube expert comments

Just want to say that I am (and like many others are) absolutely loving all the content you've been putting out on RUclips, thank you Wonderboy. I got a suggestion for a future technique Tuesday/How to: episode. Would love to see an episode breaking down a combination that you enjoy using as opposed to a breakdown of a single strike. Naturally it's ill advised to upload key combos and techniques you use for your fights to the internet because we don't want other future opponents formulating game plans against them - so I won't hold my breath for any super duper high level ninja combinations you might have up your sleeve. But perhaps you might be able to show us some interesting combinations that maybe you've used in the past and have since moved on from, or some combinations that you are comfortable with being up on the internet for all to see, or perhaps even get a team member from your gym as an episode guest to showcase a combination he/she likes. This is a bit of a long comment, I am just very enthusiastic for any content of yours coming up in the future. I love watching your fights and how you fight, I even try to analyze your style and incorporate some of it into sparring at my gym, which I've had a lot of fun with. Specifically the way you throw jab + straight combos by stepping with your rear leg off the centerline as you throw the jab, then using the rear leg to walk forward (or shuffle) back to the centerline as your throw the straight power hand - I've seen other RUclipsrs call it 'the zig-zag' but at my gym we call it 'the Wonderboy'. Anyway much love and so so so much respect from Australia, always cheering for you when you fight (except in the fight against Whittaker but that's because he's an Aussie too). Superman punch or no superman punch, I'll always look forward to when you step into the octagon, or any other combat sports stage for that matter :)
For Mma do u believe one style of stance is best for everyone or should they be based on skill and ability of the individual ?Do you play with different stances
You seem really comfortable teaching and make things very clear and concise, love watching your videos man and love watching your fights even more! I live in NC and would love to get the chance to train with you man your awesome! 👍🏻🤙🏻
Speaking of foot work and jabs off that foot work can you do a breakdown on the “Diamond Step” used by vasiliy lomachenko? If so while jabbing or throwing a cross. Looking forward to your next fight 😋
Subbed.I used to box,and this was one of the first techniques I learned.Too bad I can't box anymore because of a back injury, but I like watching these kind of videos.
Hey Stephen, one thing I always wondered about Karate and some TKD styles; why do you keep your hands so low when striking? I've been training Muay Thai, with some supplementary Wrestling and BJJ for a year now, and JJJ for a little under a decade before, and in both striking styles, the emphasis is to keep the hands up (which I'm sure you know), but when I see Karate guys with their hands so low, I fail to see any advantages apart from maybe mobility for evading and catching kicks especially without the threat of a wrestler trying to take you down. Are there any other advantages?
You absolutely nailed the optimum alignment fully extending your reach by turning the shoulders completely sideways which equals power. And, you are right that any of the three versions of the jab you indicated can work with the right footwork. I would add my two cents to say the Muhammed Ali version you refer to as a flick jab is the best one and can be the strongest one if you fully rotate your shoulders by completely inverting the vertical punch. It is also the least telegraphic and most deceptive. It can even act as an uppercut hammerfist if your opponent walks into it. Either way it has KO power. The main tweak I would offer is to get the punch out there even faster by simply throwing the punch even sooner before taking the shuffle step by applying lunge punch footwork to the jab. When I say lunge punch I don't mean like a so-called "Superman" punch where you jump up and telegraph your movement. Instead, you keep your head on the same plane and throw the punch letting it pull you forward with your feet following. No chambering, or drawing back your fist as you have indicated brilliantly. But, the first thing that moves is your hand. The step comes after the punch has already landed.
0:35 jabmost important punch 1:00 different type of jab 1:35 jab shoulders straight line Shoulder rolled up to protect chin 2:25 no telegraph 2:55 stance wide and low 3:10 shuffle movement (front foot move first nit pick it up ) 3:30 so back foot push front foot move out 4:35 bouncing helps disciuse that intial movement
It is a nice video. I call this the lunge not shuffle, but I do disagree with the shoulder turning through in most cases of the jab because it’s hard to set up a cross as you will be turned over so much. It is great for a sidekick coming after but that’s better thrown with a slide up jab as it blends the two together.
