I love how Marty, after all these years, is still surprised to find an engine in a car.
The plastic stuck to the intercooler is for humidity. The intercooler was filling up with water in humid areas so they reduced it to counter that problem
Lool the blanking plate is NOT because its too cold in Europe, that would only add performance. The problem is in really humid climates (like Australia sometimes is) it could (in very specific conditions) cool so much it would condense and (too much) water could potentially enter the engine. Therefore they blanketed it because its a worldwide product.

Also the exhaust can be dented and auch and it wont make a noticable difference as long as the actual internal volume of the pipe is the same.
Your buddys over at roadkill did a dented header test on their side show engine masters and beat the hell out of some with a hammer with 0 negative effect.

Inter coolers on American cars play 80’s hairband guitar riffs.
francisco toscano Mountune is from the UK. Our intercoolers just play The Smiths riffs but this one didn't as it was painted black.
Just looking back on this from 2020. MGM has matured over the years but some of the silly edits here are just gold!
Itsso amazing to me to see you guys do such cool things with your cars with all of the restrictions that you have in Austrailia. Its not like being in Florida where I can drive with no hood and some times no exhaust at all

stuff it, just have an mcm game. Start off with a small budget to buy a car and parts. then race it at different drag strips and tracks around australia. But have them linked together in an open world map. have the option to get budget and buy second hand parts but sacrifice performance to save money or buy brand new parts. as you win more races or earn "street cred" you can afford to get better cars and parts. Would be maad to have an online community for it though where you can also trade cars/parts and have online meets. But for the "story line" of it. Could be like the national tour that they did in a few states where you become the top modifier/racer at that tour destination then you can move on to the next one, but you can pick which order to do the destinations in. If they start a go fund me page for them to produce a video game I would happily cheap in ahaha

Hey guys, I must say I love your double entendre moments.
That stock intercooler blocker is meant to be there because many markets that the RS is sold in have high humidity at some point or another, which causes issues when the plate is removed. Once the blocker is removed and the stock intercooler is exposed to high humidity under use, water droplets can form and get compressed by the turbo charger and cause misfires during combustion. Removing the blocker does exhibit some gains, but if you live where humidity is relatively high, you're headed for losses with it removed, from what I understand. Sweet ride though!

Marty, the blanking plate is supposedly there because of hot humid countries. The plate stops the water droplets from building up too fast. Taking the plate off is basically the same as upgrading an already over efficient inter cooler. Check with Ford, see what they say.

60's Aussie muscle isn't exactly bang for buck these days. For that matter, nor is '70s muscle. Even a bog stock '80s Falcon/Commodore is likely to be pushing $10K if it's still in good condition (highly unlikely).
You're probably right but I think the guys could find something that needs some work and still be in budget, all i'm saying is it would be a change of pace for them. I get their whole appeal for cheap Japanese cars but maybe a change of gears for a few episodes would be interesting.
They should just modify a Yaris. That would be fun.

That's what I love about cars. You two talk about the differences between JDM and European cars regarding bumpers and plastics. I've worked on my Golf, Fabia and a bit of Fiat and I envy everybody who just has to own a 10 mm socket and a ratchet to work on their cars, while I'm frantically looking for a special size 14 multi-point screw and my 12 torx.

It would be great to work on a new car (not a modern one, just new). Your biggest obstacle in a repair or mod is rust. Suddenly a bolt siezes and snaps off and a job takes 5x longer than it would have. Then, on top of the time, you feel bad for hurting the car.
It doesn't snow in 99% of Australia so rust is not really an issue at all.
In Scotland cars tend to be condemned to the scrapie at 10 years old from rust... all my cars are falling apart I wanna move to Aus 😂

i work for ford and have seen loads of these with the same mods . boost turned up and then bang they don't like running more than stock boost for very long

The blank is for high humidity places. The Intercooler in some places used to cool air so well that the water in the air would condense and create a puddle in the bottom of the intercooler. The engines would then run like crap, misfiring and stuff. I think some even hydolocked after sucking a load in at once. Happened in the F150 ecoboost. They had to do a recall on some ford vehicles (TSB 13-08-01) and some people were drilling holes in their intercoolers to drain the water out.

The intercooler was too efficient that it was creating water condensation droplets that we're going inside the engine in some humid cold situations. They probably were at a final stage already when they found out, so it was easier to make a quick fix than to redesign the intercooler. Every system has a reasoning.
