Yeah, Honda powerplants for the win. I live with a B series daily that sees -35degC every winter and usually 38degC in the summer. It has 405,000km on it and it starts every fucking day and the only time it ever let me down was plug wires and yet it still got me to work so I could replace them on 2 cylinders. Love this channel and funny is funny so I don't mind seeing the Honda jokes but I feel so delighted to see Honda get it's credit!
I'd love to see this car on a track. Maybe you two could see who get's the fastest lap time in it. To level the playing field, or to create a baseline. You both could run another car for comparison. As always love the videos, and I appreciate all of the effort you two, and everyone else involved has put into it.
"Pulling weight out of a car is just as good as putting power into it." I've had far more fun in low powered lightweight cars than I have in faster heavier ones...give me something I can just fling around the corners any day!
microbuilder That's sooo true, recently I swapped from BMW e36 316 to e38 728 and although it is faster in straight line, more comfortable, better for long trips etc it's so much less fun to drive... Today I've driven my old e36 again and it's so responsive and fun... less weight=more fun, confirmed
microbuilder I'm in the process of going from a 2009 Focus ST to a 1986 Volkswagen Golf GTI 20vT conversion. Same power as my focus, maybe slightly more.. but weighs half a tonne less and probably twice as fun to drive. Can't wait to finish the car and get rid of the focus.
Cruising down the back street industrial zones. Its such a good feeling to watch the boys doing the same thing I do every now and then in Campbellfield and Somerton.
My entire life I have wanted a mini but just cannot afford one, however seeing a mightycarmods mini video genuinely makes me happy because they have pretty much built my dream car, it kinda gives me a visualisation of my dream, keep it up guys :)
My best friend Steve loved that project and talked about it to me. This was in summer 2018. I loved the idea to beef up a mini! Also I started watching that playlist. Later in the year unfortunately he died in an accident on his job but after that I watched all (ALL) vids of you guys. Your are dudes like Steve and me-car fanatics with a great sense of fun and humor. Both of us are germans and we don’t laugh so quick on other people jokes. Take care and stay safe! MissyaBro @dubmota Steve
Hi lads, I have been watching you two since you had that commodore, you have gone a long way since then. I love this new mini you both put together. It’s totally sick as. Keep up the great work lads, All the best from Moe town.
Big big point is that this an NA engine with pretty radical VTEC system. The Haltec looks to handle the complex VTEC activation point well. Low RPM power is good, high RPM power is good and the transition is smooth. Well done.
Epic Build guys... love this sorta thing.. and with that sort of power that mini is a very quick little car... so glad you guys upgraded the brakes too lol... can't wait to see this thing on the road one day!! Awesome work to everyone involved!
Honestly, the mesure is take to the wheels, this B16B is a 17years old engine and he's swapped in a classic Mini ! 140hp is not bad, i expected also a better score but it's not a Civic Type R full restored in a pristine state, so it's pretty correct. ;)
When they opened this engine they were very surprise by de state of it.it looked brand new.Even Turbo yoda said "has no sighns of internal combustion". In my opinion the loss on power is because of the custom manifod on a very small engine bay.
That's at the wheels, not at the crank. A stock B16B is rated at 136 KW. General rule of thumb is 20% power loss through the drivetrain, although that can go up and down, which puts an unmodified Civic Type R in the neighborhood of 108.8 KW. That's a small but noticeable power drop, but nothing serious.
SrBrit0 The 140hp is at the wheels fyi. I don't know where you get your 60hp from anyway, stock B16Bs are rated at 136KW which is 182bhp and 185 metric hp. That is AT THE CRANK though, not at the wheels. so much for "pfff".
This makes me want to turn up the boost get a tune again.i just had a super safe tune done in August and it feels great but just the knowledge that there's more to be had, is gnawing at me. Cheers, guys. Maybe one day my S14 will be powered by Haltech as well.
Very nice and proper build, keeping the exterior "innocent". That VTEC is a revving beast... A friend of mine built in a Opel GSI 2-liter in his Mini, but made his own subframe and front suspension. Bloody fast, but hard to turn steering wheel at low speed... But this Honda engine is probably much lighter and will therefore handle better.
This whole series was great fun. Very nice job, lads. I would love to see an on track comparison with Bad Obsession's Project Binky. For that matter, how would it compare on track with an ST Fiesta or similar contemporary hot hatch.
Nick DiNunzio omar38317 M. Hayes Dont agree guys, I know whp will be less but from 180 to 139? thats over 22% drivetrain loss. Thats not normal unless its an AWD. Id expect 15-17% which would put him over 150whp.
Roman G I understand that the dyno they use has a history of reading low. Every dyno is different, and they are only tools. What matters is how well the car runs.
Roughly 167 hp (give or take a few) at the crank here after the tuning. Should make that little mini feel like a rocket. Sure, there are much easier ways to get power but I love the approach and creativity to build something unique. Well done fellas.
that thing shot around the track at Mallala, it wasnt the fastest on the field but still for an old vehicle.. the windows are almost black on the outside its so good looking
There is so much misinformation here it hurts to read. The B16B engine is rated at 185PS (182hp). The typical drivetrain loss for a FWD Honda is 12-15%. If you consider the 15% loss, it should give about 154whp. The 140whp run shows that it's about the power of a JDM 2nd gen B16A which is rated at 170PS (168hp/144whp). With that being said, the intake manifold was severely modified and the exhaust is also different. I do think the exhaust manifold remained stock, but I'm not sure about the exhaust diameter. The original exhaust is 57.2mm (2.25") with only a small section between the cat and resonator that's 54mm. Honda thoroughly made small modifications to those parts when designing the B variant, all of them to get better airflow at high RPMs. Regardless, that's an excellent power to weight ratio and Moog is very happy with the build, that's all that matters. Horsepower is just a number.
While I'm not debating the fact that modifications to the Intake Manifold will cost HP. You also have to keep in mind their using a Mainline Dyno. Those dyno's dont read as high as majority of the other dyno's we use in the states here. A Mainline generally speaking will show about 15% - 18% less HP then a dynapack, dynojet, etc. On any other dyno, this is right in the 160hp range... which sounds about right for a B16B. I don't think that intake mod cost that much if any HP, Also the graph is really good, If it was an issue you would see a dip or other on the graph.
@@hondapromehmet9156 I don't buy that. Sounds like an excuse of juveniles bragging about the power their car makes. All the dynos are (or should be) calibrated and measure the correct power/torque. What the hell would be the point otherwise??
Go look at Tommyfyeah and his k miata made 170 on one dyno in a completely controlled environment same dyno as here. Than goes to a regular dyno and makes over 200whp and than 215. Dyno's read different its just a tool to tune the car.
I love love love this car! It looks so beautiful. The mini it's stance and those wheels are spot on perfect And I love the Honda vtec motor. Just perfect!
Everyone please keep in mind their using a Mainline Dyno. Those dyno's dont read as high as majority of the other dyno's we use in the states here. Chave na ignição - Victor Nezzi Could be cooling issues I guess. The engine bay is much smaller than a Civic. 24% power loss is quite insane though. That's like a SUV with transfer case and portal axles power loss
About 13 years ago I owned a 150hp G11 Charade Had a GTTI twincam motor running 20 psi all day with Skyline injectors and bigger turbo with an ems engine management. Marty needs to look into the GTTI twincam turbo motor
Love it. While driving home from Sydney in my 1977 Toyota Corolla KE35 to Toowoomba Qld (thought I would drive to RTX Sydney) I found the road mountain road that the boys like driving. My gosh it is beautiful only two things brought it down. My car Toadie only makes 30ish kw on a good day and it was 48'c inside 😥
For anyone saying that they were expecting more power - I don't understand the disappointment. 100kw at the wheels is plenty for the Mini. I was lucky enough to drag Moog at the QLD MCM meet (they recently posted the video of the meet) and I just BARELY chopped him in my bone stock turbo SW20 MR2 which is pushing 180kw at the flywheel. As they said, it's all about power to weight.. That Mini is damn quick!
What would be really nice, would be an acceleration video from 0 - A LOT, with all the trimmings. I'm taking onboard video with picture in picture of the speedo, a stopwatch, and maybe a camera pointing to the smile of the driver. What an awesome little beast - congratulations!
Nice build. hope you have all the engineering certs for it . If you get pulled over and dont have them your unicorns will only be unleashed at the track.
I do not comment. I actually think this may be only the second RUclips comment I have ever made. Let me start by saying that I love what these two guys do. I have been watching MCM as they come out since season 3. I know there's MCMtv2, and I am going to catch sh%@ for saying this, but I would love to know more of the technical side. For example, per these dyno runs, are they corrected for STP? What kind of dyno is being used? Why/how is the computer "learning" to correct the tune. What was done to give the ~5kW gain in power? Was the injector pulse width changed? Was the timing advanced? Did you engage VTEC in 1st and 2nd gear? Did you change the VTEC engagement point to allow VTEC to kick in in 1st and 2nd gear? etc... I get that Marty and Moog are not engineers, mechanics or professional fabricators (forgive me if you are actually one of those things and just don't say it for security purposes). That they have lives outside of MCM. That the regulars on the show help them out a lot. Tuning Fork, Ben, Turbo Yoda, Dos Vader, and so on. I think the explanation video on boost pressure is one of the best videos they have done. Take something as complicated as explaining gauge pressure and use alcohol to explain it so someone without a knowledge of science/engineering can understand it...awesome! I guess what I am trying to get at is... Let us not only know what you're doing, but why you're doing it. Give us an explanation of a track day. What you should bring, expect, and hope to get out of it. When you throw an H6 in a legacy, twin turbo it, and add a sti gear box and suspension...What parts did you make, and why. Were these parts built on a "oh, shit. We need this to fit" basis or was it thought out and actually designed for a specific purpose. Again, I love you guys, everything you do, and represent, but I really think a good chunk of your viewers would love a little more detailed and technical info on your projects.
It's something on the road already, it's just not clear because of the high exposure. You can see a few of them, probably the back side shadow of a concrete island.

Mighty Car Mods where is your Honda S2000
Love this mini. There's another mini getting an unusual engine transplant, but they're taking a bit longer. Bad Obsession Motorsport's "Project Binky"
I want to see tay tay
Nobody does it like these guys, legends. So much heart.

DomesticMango nice seeing you here!!!
EDIT: VTEC KICKED IN HARD YO!

Mungoo
Took me about 9 seconds to get the Skyline-boat reference.... well played Moog... well played.
I don't get it.
Dat noise when it hits vtec :D
SMB Garage When's the Porsche going to hit boost?
where was that noise? =D
Hahaha, you are like me and love to making running comments as you watch.

"let's do it until we have problems" I need that as a sticker!
That could be used in so many conversations. Out drinking... Tuning your car... Weight Lifting... etc...
These builds are so awesome and really fun to watch. Congratulations on your Mini R34 killer Moog!
In for next episode, "Mighty Mods Mini vs R34 GT-R" 😇
yes
Rather the Mini lmao, see that clip where the DK over took the 34 GT-R in an AE86? LOL!
Like that old episode where Marty got rekt by that R35
and eventually Mini vs Mira
YESSSSSS :D

Scotty is the best... So good at what he does, good job as always 👍
That recap of what has been done to the Mini was really hugely appreciated. Cheers.

Agreed!
Good luck with the project, Shona, you're going to have a blast with that thing!
Cruising down the back street industrial zones. Its such a good feeling to watch the boys doing the same thing I do every now and then in Campbellfield and Somerton.
Did Moog just take a dig at skylines by calling them a boat?
cos they are
I know in America theres a massive thing about them. But in AUS there really nothing special
Did you get a joke?
R33s in particular.
Also known as SS Godzilla.
My entire life I have wanted a mini but just cannot afford one, however seeing a mightycarmods mini video genuinely makes me happy because they have pretty much built my dream car, it kinda gives me a visualisation of my dream, keep it up guys :)
I want “Let’s do it till we have problems” on a t shirt lol
Of all the mods and upgrades done on this mini. You still have a piece of wood to hold the bonnet open 😂😂
"5 minutes into Mini and chill" had me in stitches! 1:41
Skylines- A boat that can't float!

I want to see a drag race between the Honda mini and the turbo mira!!
I almost bought a mini as my first car and have regretted not ever since! 20 years later and watching this playlist and yep, I want a mini!
08:15
"Strong like Mitsubishi"
"What?"
"What?
That timing 😂😂
I absolutely love the arrow decal above your front sidemarker
A substantial amount of time and money, as well as a lot of talent, with an outstanding result, well done!
That shot at 6:00 is confusing. Looks like the whole car is bent and reversing dead straight like it lol
That's probably because classic Minis have a wider track width on the front than they do on the rear. So the wheels stick out more on the front.
it needs an alignment, it was crab walking
was looking for this. something is wrong, and thats not cause of wheels
Figureight y
yeah looks like it has to be aligned
Love the subtle dig at Skylines.
As an american viewer watching you drive on the other side of the road gives me anxiety of unheard of levels.
that1fatkiduknow correct side of the road...
Hi lads,
I have been watching you two since you had that commodore, you have gone a long way since then. I love this new mini you both put together. It’s totally sick as.

I can’t wait to see the Mira v. Mini race
Mini will destroy the mira. It's already over before it even began.
Traction is definitely a factor. The Mira might surprise
ONLY if he wheel spins on purpose. The mini has both power and fwd, both advantageous in a drag race. The mira would only win at a drift event.
MV60 was drifting? Cure your ignorance.
literally only good thing about my day right now. thanks MCM
Honestly, the mesure is take to the wheels, this B16B is a 17years old engine and he's swapped in a classic Mini !

not bad? 60hp lost... pfff
SrBrit0 The 140hp is at the wheels fyi. I don't know where you get your 60hp from anyway, stock B16Bs are rated at 136KW which is 182bhp and 185 metric hp. That is AT THE CRANK though, not at the wheels. so much for "pfff".

VTEC KICKED IN YO !!!!!
.
MAN this video makes me want to skip work and head into the garage to work on my Mini restoration... Great stuff!
I might be seeing wrong but it looks like the mini is crabbing quite badly at 6:00 and also at 13:36
So excited to see this I've been wondering forever about it. Seeing old footage :') VTECH Unicorn power!!!! 13:45 Yessssss Can't w8 boisss!
"Its strong... Like mitsubishi!"
"What?"
"What??"
😂😂😂
I laughed so hard when he said that, takes me back to the s2000 nitros tune
Man I hope i will be able to do this on my own mini one day, this is so amazing ! Mini for the win !
“Let’s do it until we have problems” 😂
Congrats Mighty Car Mods on your MinT-R!!
7:01 lol moog is standing on something to have the same height as tuning fork, that man is tall AF
“Let’s do it till we have problems.” Lol, I love it, this channel is awesome
Ahh you're all serious and into it now it's your mini. At least TRY and be a bit more like this with the Mira mate.
Master Beernuts yeah but the mini is cool
You never heard of banter?
This whole series was great fun. Very nice job, lads. I would love to see an on track comparison with Bad Obsession's Project Binky. For that matter, how would it compare on track with an ST Fiesta or similar contemporary hot hatch.
Definitely seems a little low on power for the B16B but either way, that's less than 10lbs per horsepower, which is amazing.
its about right for a B16B
Don't forget this is at the wheels. It's about right. Torque numbers will be rubbish, but that's another thing entirely.
B16bs are rated at 180hp crank, so 140whp is right on the money

Ew
No one needs rotary
😂😂😂😂
10:28 that crossover is beautiful
5 minutes into Mini and Chill...
enough comments? 4 in a row lol
My b. Just commenting while watching my dude
Moog's face was pretty special there... also hey SMB! Just saw your latest upload, nice to see your new shop space is coming together!
sprang a leak there..
A fine representation of the best car ever made
There is so much misinformation here it hurts to read. I used to have a mini and now youre doing a mini episode on my Bday!
To anyone watching this in the US, Moog is around 6' 1"
it is cool to hear that VTEC kick in.
nice job, fellas.
there was just a skyline on the dyno actually
*shows boat buoys* lmaoooo
Love the casual skyline/boat references.. ha ha.. keep em coming
Make like a fork and tune it 👍🏽
I love love love this car! It looks so beautiful. The mini it's stance and those wheels are spot on perfect And I love the Honda vtec motor.
Just perfect!
I got here before my notification
me too!!
Congrats moog, what a specimen

Yes.
Cant see how transmission losses can reduce 40hp
About 13 years ago
I owned a 150hp G11 Charade
Had a GTTI twincam motor running 20 psi all day with Skyline injectors and bigger turbo with an ems engine management.
Marty needs to look into the GTTI twincam turbo motor
who else is watching the truck behind them while they are driving?
“Let’s do it untill we have problems” he said. Legend!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but were Moogs and and his mini in the supercheap bathurst day adverts?
PPK418 I thought that was him when I seen it lol
yeah they were.
Mcm
Just needs to sneak in a small logo of the chopped fingers and they're golden.
Love it. While driving home from Sydney in my 1977 Toyota Corolla KE35 to Toowoomba Qld (thought I would drive to RTX Sydney) I found the road mountain road that the boys like driving. 10 minutes into vtec and chill and he gives you this look.... 8:00
Don't forget at 1:41
thats the face you make when you realise it fits in your honda

5:25 ah who ah who ah who wah!
Mighty car mods if you bang a hefty turbo on that car it would be untouchable! Mad build!
If that is so good (and it clearly is) then project binky is going to be a road monster :o)
teamidris a 4x4 beast
Good stuff Moog. I'm a die hard Mitsubishi guy, but I don't hate. I'm sure that thing is a butt load of fun.
Turbo M8?
Yes! The BMW M8 has a turbo ;)
Triktensap Mirulosu got em
Triktensap Mirulosu at least one, most certainly two
Triktensap Mirulosu I meant should he turbo the mini xD
H0pp3nst3dt It shares the same engine fron the new M5 (I think)
What would be really nice, would be an acceleration video from 0 - A LOT, with all the trimmings.
I'm taking onboard video with picture in picture of the speedo, a stopwatch, and maybe a camera pointing to the smile of the driver. What an awesome little beast - congratulations!
Not gonna lie I was expecting atleast 150whp outta that B16B.
+Man O War tbh the 15% difference isnt that big considering the constraints they had to deal with to get it to fit
Dude. I love your mini so much . It's such a smart build..i actually would rather have your mini than my stage 2 built r53..
Listen to moog at 5:25, I'm dead
Daynien Anderson Ah hwauhuhwauhuha
Nice build. hope you have all the engineering certs for it .
What an awesome build. One of a kind!
You never found/ said the original power number with the a series
~50 kW
~30 without the supercharger
Man I'm so stoked to see Mira vs Mini.
lets just say it..... we all expected more than 106 hp after all that work
was hoping for 120
I thought it was running 120 with the charger
Its 140hp at the wheels not 106
what an absolute BEAST!!! Love it
I love dyno days!
Why you guys always have that good projects, why?? :))
It would be real pleasure working with you...keep going
3:13 he goes over a bump and it looks like something is rolling behind afterwards? Is it just me?
Mrbean - You’r right... Hey! HEY! You dropped something! ... (parts falling off and the mini still rolling, amazing car)
It's something on the road already, it's just not clear because of the high exposure. You can see a few of them, probably the back side shadow of a concrete island.
