I love these engines, i have two Johnson 140 but they are Suzuki engines with Johnson cowling. With a book they are easy to diagnose

    Hi from The Netherlands,
Lucky that your sensor reported an overheating problem! Me and my two of my friends (all three boats mounted with a DF140) suffered the same issue (in a 2 years period): all three engins had a crack in the cylinder head, likely caused by overheating. All three of us got no sign of overheating at all, no alarm set off. It was noticed due to the engin starting up running on three cylinders. Scary: the enigine numbers of 2 of the engins differ only 1 digit! Suzuki Europe denies any responsibility.
Anyone out there with the same problem?

thermostat will stay open when it stops working because it is a fail safe thermostat .. you can tell it is open by feeling the prop hub discharge it be warm and never gets cold and hot to indicating opening and closing . . most mechanics dont even know about a oil cooler behind the oil filter because it is not in the service book. I replaced my engine because I was getting oil in water with 600hrs on it . I wonder if it was oil cooler. the sensor can be cleaned as I have and tested per service book .

great video i have a similar problem now got a question for you that's driving me crazy because my motor is overheating on the exhaust port on the top next to the telltale I'm having exhaust come out of there with squirting water as well that's not normal because I have two motors and the other one doesn't do that

This is early version suzuki but chain on fly wheel and sometimes the warranty goes to 6years as an incentive or rebates sells this engine . .I liked my 2002 much better than my 2013 suzuki as it had some small issues .

    • @boashna

turn the ignition on and rpm will move if it goes to 3 it means 300 hrs and if it goes to 3 twice means 3000 .. no need to have the engine running

@@MS-rn3bz yes, it is on the port side of the motor, tucked behind some wire loom. Most of them have a blue wire attaching them.

i got a 2015 and ive battled a random over heat the whole time at 5,000 rpm i got just over 200 hours now and if i keep it 4900 or only run it for a short 3-10 sec it normally wont shut down and go it safe mode. but when it does i normal just turn it off for like 5 secs and it runs like new. Dealers have always BS the problem.
