    Drove V12 on a Rural route between two cities in southern Ontario this afternoon about 55 kms. Dramatic improvement over previous V11. Definitely human like feel. Handled a difficult inside merging lane that had previously scared the crap out of my wife without issue. Signal might have been nice but not complaining. Drove right into Guelph, and into the retail parking lot as requested. Took over from there to park out of the way of traffic flow.

    I'm a personal injury attorney and I don't think tesla should ever say its fully responsible for liability. Every wreck tesla would be getting a big lawsuit filed against them. These lawsuits could easily last 2 years or more due to the discovery and experts that would be hired to analyze the data for each lawsuit. I'd always put the warning language for its users to pay attention. Then if the tech gets so good people don't have to pay attention then they won't pay attention but at least then tesla wouldn't be on the hook for liability as much due to the disclaimers. But I'd always have that disclaimer if I were tesla. Don't want to take on the litigation cost.

      You’re totally wrong you start off by saying “every wreck” if Tesla becomes full level 5 autonomy any car accident would be the other drivers fault. a level 5 autonomy vehicle that is being super cautious isn’t ever going to be the CAUSE of a crash and each Tesla will have all the cameras so the crash will be recorded. You can’t get sued if the other person at fault. Well someone can attempt to but it won’t work.

    What I don’t understand is that Tesla had plenty of time to figure out how to make the model 3 qualify for the $7500 tax credit. They even did a model 3 refresh and had the opportunity to change their battery source when doing so, but for some reason the model 3 still doesn’t qualify (except for leasing for some reason). Now the competition for mid sized sedans have a 7500 advantage over the model 3. If someone knows the reasoning behind this, please let me know.

    I really don’t think Wall Street buying into FSD has anything to do with liability. Once it starts making noticeable amount of profit, Wall Street will come running saying they knew it all along. All comes down to money imho.

    • @markthomas7279
      @markthomas7279 Месяц назад +1

      Because FSD responsibility will be resolved by insurance as all major future risks are. Thats the reason Tesla are in the insurance business. FSD could be used supervised at ordinary premiums IE level 4/5 capable limited to level 2 functionality. A premium would then be required to cover the Tesla risk for full FSD responsibility. A further business premium would be logical for business, robotaxi users. Probably some of this is implicit in the 12,000 fee. In future it's probably going to be charged per mile, or in bands of miles. Business will probably be a revenue share.

    • @ddextera

      Having done road trips in our Model Y, even before V12, $200 for the month was totally worth it for the extra piece of mind having a second set of "eyes/brain" on the road when driving for hours in an unfamiliar area. Now with V12, it's even more worth it. Driving is so much more relaxing and enjoyable with FSD, way beyond the "eyesight" or "driver assist" on other cars we've owned. And this month it's free! We had already paid the $200 for the month, so Tesla added a second month for free.

      Respectfully disagree. Both buy backs and dividends would only be done with excess cash. However, where dividends would indicate they've run out of ideas and when paid, the money would be gone forever, buy backs would increase the value of every share, which offers several benefits.

    • @mjr7991
      @mjr7991 Месяц назад

      @@davedavies3796 agree on the point of buy backs is to boost EPS. They would expect a return on those shares. If a company doesn’t have other options with better expected returns, then buy backs may be good use of cash. This typically occurs once the investment and heavy r&d phase of a business is closer to the end than the beginning. My point is they are closer to the beginning than end. Tesla has a significant number of opportunities ahead of them that will need the cash. My point is they can’t afford to do buy backs now without risking the need to raise capital later. If you think they won’t need that cash to build factories or spend on r&d, etc, then buy backs may be an option.

    “Tesla will have to accept liability for all crashes.” I disagree with that quote. I believe that Gary Black started this suggestion. I believe a more accurate approach would be something like this: Tesla owned robo-taxis will have to carry insurance similar to what drivers of traditional taxis carry. This means the owners of these units (Tesla) will be responsible for their behaviour the same as a human operated taxi - responsible for any crash where they are found to be at fault. For Tesla robo-taxis owned by individuals or third party companies, it will be necessary for the owners to carry suitable insurance to protect others from any property damage done by “their” vehicle when it is operating autonomously. This will be hard insurance to find at first and I suspect that Tesla may be the only entity able to provide it as Tesla will have a better handle on the risks involved.
    In a backhanded kind of way, this insurance approach solves the regulatory implementation problem for FSD. If we begin at a point where FSD is 100X better than a human driver and disengagements are a thing of the past, then I can imagine Tesla handling their own insurance for the Tesla owned robo-taxi fleet. As further experience is gained, Tesla could consider offering this insurance to third parties who own robo-taxis.

      @@deanrhodenizer938 Oh, I see, I never thought anyone would expect them to have liability without fault. Robotaxi implies FSD. However if there's a human driver it is questionable whether that human is representing the robotaxi service. Yes, thank you for clarifying.

    • @deanrhodenizer938
      @deanrhodenizer938 Месяц назад

      @@robertwhite3503 I am sometimes guilty of taking what someone says as the intended meaning as opposed to what they obviously meant (to many, but not to me). Tesla owned robo-taxis that are operating autonomously carry a liability toward their owner (Tesla) for any property damage, loss of life, etc. that may be caused when FSD is deemed to be at fault. Such liabilities would presumably be covered by insurance. I can see problems arising when Tesla does not have full control. For example, what happens if a privately owned robo-taxi is not running the most recent version of FSD software, or its cameras are not cleaned properly, or it is not maintained properly - such as service brakes not fully functional or worn out tires or some other mechanical deficiency. To go a step further, what happens when Tesla FSD is licensed to another OEM? Who is responsible for integrating the software into that vehicle and who is liable for any damages that result? IMO, these are a few of the problems that will need solving.

    • @robertwhite3503
      @robertwhite3503 Месяц назад

      @@deanrhodenizer938 You've gone deep into the details. These would be the job of Tesla's lawyers, marketing personnel and Elon. I agree that it is complex. Often insurance is something that only applies to little people. Tesla might approach an insurance company. The insurers would ask what do you think your liabilities would be. The annual charge would be that figure plus ten percent profit margin. So little benefit in Tesla seeking insurance. With regard to Tesla's relationship with robotaxi operators they can either cover it in the operating conditions or in an insurance contract. Either way the operator will pay something to Tesla and agree to some rules. When an accident happens the lawyers will argue over who pays.

    NVDA now is basically when TSLA was over $400. NVDA is at $2T. great time to cash out. TSLA has been hit hard. Great time to buy.
    When it comes to buybacks - I find it hard to see how Tesla is going to spend their money. They take a LONG time to pick a factory location, and when they do, it's a $5b investment over the period of 2 years. That's nothing. They have $30b cash on hand and positive cash flow. I don't see how they are going to spend that money

    I don't think Tesla needs to do a buy back of public stock, however they could do a buy back of employee stock. So that when stock vests via normal RSU vesting Tesla buys back the stock necessary to cover taxes, or potentially covers the entire RSU vesting as a buy back, and therefore there is no more dilution going forward. That would be the best way to do a buy back in my opinion and I have that with one of my companies. Everyone thinks doing a buy back means buying shares back on the public markets and that isn't necessarily the case. Stopping the dilution via stock based compensation programs is a much better strategy IMHO.
