    I don’t understand people dulling their knife blades on cardboard when you can buy a box cutter for $2? I have box cutters everywhere I might need them. It’s so silly to see people cutting up cardboard with their edc knife. If I’m cutting bullshit I get a bullshit cutter...

    I'm assuming the reason your hand doesn't sit the same is because the Para3 is a smaller version of the paramilitary 2, key word being smaller

  • @sloofahdadestroyah790
    @sloofahdadestroyah790 7 лет назад +48

    the Para 3 is supposed to be smaller, that way it can stay legal in states where there is a blade length limit. it's a more EDCable knife for more people. it's made to fill that void between the delica and the Paramilitary 2 and still maintain the same basic ergonomics.

    I agree with your overall assessment. I would add though that, of course the Para3 isn't going to be quite as good as its larger cousin, but you can carry the para3 in places you can't carry the paramilitary 2. Also, for edc in pants, lot less profile and some less weight on the smaller knife.

    Quite a few reviewers complained about the excess handle as opposed to the blade length of the pm2 but I feel it was intentional to give a hard use use knife a much more secure and comfortable grip.
    The para3 hotspots my hand almost immediately but I can use the pm2 all day. In Australia you can’t edc a knife regardless of length so the blade length for legal reasons doesn’t come into the argument.
    Where it does allow you to edc due to the shorter length, I would be interested to see if the 3 inch blade of the para 3 somehow attached to the longer pm2 handle would go. Not everyone cares about pocket realestate so much that it would matter.

    • @mikeg3950
      @mikeg3950 11 месяцев назад +1

      A utility is the correct tool for cardboard, not your $200 pocket knife. Cardboard will dull your edge faster than anything, it will scratch even the hardest super steel, and prolonged cutting can actually ruin the heat treat of your blade. One slice through cardboard and you can feel the heat coming off the blade. Try it.

    As far as I'm aware, and I'm a born and bred Vermon'er, the Para2 is completely legal here (in VT). The only knife restrictions we have primarily revolve around OTF or stiletto knives- those are the knives that have to have blades under 3"

  • @1allspub

    You broubght up a great point about the "heel" in the handle. That it gives you leverage in cutting. Same holds true for postol grips. In that case ithelps reduce muzzle rise/flip....faster recovery between shots...a good point to keep in mind when trying to decide between the 2 knives..the P3 vs the PM2...will matter. Somethig I think many people are overlooking.
    I wear size L gloves...so maybe the PM2 would be a better choice. You (I) don't ever want to buy a product only to regret it later. :) Even if these knives arent't "mega expensive". ..
    Good points...and you included cut testing footag...worth doing...

      JR Quarnberg im not sure if youve gotten your answer yet, but its basically identical to the pm2, just a littlw bit shorter. In my opinion the para3 and pm2 are pretty thin knives honestly. If processing cardboard is part of your regular job you need to come up with a better more efficient way man. I was at the spyderco booth during shot 2016 showing Sal an original model he sold me when he was just starting and an old guy came up and thanked him for a great knife and said "90% is used for spreading peanut butter and jelly" we all laughed as we went our separate ways and what a profound but true statement. If you want to test a knife prep food with it, cut into a Costco rotisserie chicken and do vegetables slice ham and sausage, clean and prepare fish. And finally spread some peanut butter and jelly on bread, cut a zip tie, open a envelope, or a box from Amazon.

      I got the para 3 and live in Jersey but it wasn't so much a legal thing as I'm usually carrying smaller knives, i.e,., Delica length or shorter.
      Never been hassled by cops for a knife since i was in college... that was a tiny buck knockoff with a two inch blade. He only knew I was carrying it because I was trying to be a good citizen and told him. Big mistake.

    Evident: SPYDERCO has gone "wimpy" with the "3", and will lose some loyalty. I shudder to think what the "4" will look, and feel like.
    Thank you Sir, for your insight on with this review. Great "pickup".

    Wait a smaller knife has a shorter handle? Next thing you know you’ll say it has a shorter blade too. I wonder why people wouldn’t point out something obvious like a shorter knife has a shorter handle? I bet subcompact cats are smaller than full size cars, can you check RUclips and see if anyone has felt it’s necessary to point that out

      On a positive note... once you buy a high end knife, you are very unlikely to have to buy another.
      That is until you loose the one you bought, then you're stuck having to buy more high end knives.
      Solution.... stop loosing your high end knives. 😃

    😯WOW!!!😯 This is the most informative but yet down to earth review I’ve seen so far! Most RUclips reviewers just banter and talk about their collection of knives, blah, blah, blah. I really like how you kept straight to the point and reviewed just the pros and cons without prolonged bashing. Just like the previous comment that you are the real version, not a wannabe in uniform. A product review of this category should be between 5-10 minutes long. If it’s over 20 minutes then it’s too long. Better practice what I preach, so I’ll stop bantering too. Thank you for the great review and your service!!! God protect us all!!!

    About the UKPK, in London the Bobbies took away me buddies UKPK. As he said, they nicked him for it at a concert. Like don't take it to a concert??? I think it depends what one is doing, and where they do it. Oh well....Just saying..

    Here in the UK the PM 3 is a whopping £40 ($49.94) more than the PM 2 - WTF is that all about? As far as I'm concerned Spyderco can stick it where the sun don't shine!

    • @bigpoppa578

      paul greenwood that's the retailer choosing to charge more, not Spyderco. Here in Canada the Para 3 is less than the standard PM2.

      I contacted my UK retailer (Heinnie) AND Spyderco directly and they both blame each other for the large difference.

      There is another possibility here. With Brexit and the associated turmoil, the pound PLUMMETED. If that dealer is selling pre-brexit para2s, they may not have updated their prices to reflect the weak pound. The Para3s however can't be old inventory, they have to have been acquired recently, so have to have been bought with the comparatively weak pounds thus the higher price. The result? You can see a para3 for sale for a lot more money than the para2s.
      As an aside, while I can't disclose the details of how, I do have some insight into the workings of spyderco's pricing. The para3's cost to dealers is very slightly lower than that of the para2. For all intents and purposes though, they're basically the same price. The para3 wasn't made to be cheaper, it was made to fill that void for people requiring a sub 3" knife, because a bunch of wankers and politicians and organizations for dumb reasons use 3" as an arbitrary cutoff.

    Your information at 1:17 is incorrect. VT law does not restrict blade length on manual folders. Only automatic knives. Also, Navy is better than Air Force. :P J/k, stay safe out there. - EA-18G maintainer
