As a seasoned Spyderco collector l found this video very enjoyable and informative. My favorite thing about Spyderco, especially the PM2, is you can easily modify them to make your own. Recently I added burlap micarta scales and deep carry clips to my two Shamans and it really dresses them up nicely. ❤ Happy collecting. 😂
i have a question, it's fell known that Endura has a little blade play from the pivot side, what can you tell about Stretch 2? Is it build more rigid than Endura? If you have an experience of using it of course.
In my opinion you can't beat a Spyderco! I have a friend whom I deeply respect, a retired Combat controller, who to this day carries the Workman! That to me says everything I need to know!
100% correct about the modification ease of the PM2. I carried them a couple times, but I always go back to my bread and butter, the Police model. I have a Police 2 PE, Police Model from the early 90's aluminum handles SE, Police 4 FRN K390 SE, Police 4 G10 K390, and on the way, Police 3 G10 VG10 steel (kinda rare). Larry, I love knives and I love Spyderco. Cheers!
Funny how people make fun of spyderco fans saying they over pay so much but we have companies like benchmade selling old steels and marking up way more then spydercos. At least spydercos using all sorts of steals and not afraid to use differnt blade shape or drilling a hole right on the blade breaking molds by being bold.
My biggest complaint is if you break your spyderco, they don’t offer blade changes so if it breaks you’re stuck with it. Also anything from dealer exclusives have little to no warranty. But they do steels right and if i want to try something new i’ll go to spyderco but i prefer Benchmades warranty to spyderco’s.
I have 1 Spyderco PM2 and a Benchmade Bailout. The Spyderco has an excellent lockup, smooth operation, and feels excellent in the hand, fit and finish is top notch. My Benchmade was slightly dull out of the box, the blade isn't even close to centered, the Axis lock sticks and sometimes takes 2 hands to unlock, and it feels very cheap even though it cost about the same as my PM2
My first Spyderco knife was an original Mariner with a fully serrated sheepsfoot blade and a stainless handle (not scales, it was machined from a solid piece of steel). I later was thrilled to be able to buy a left handed version, with a left-oriented pocket clip and reversed serrations for better left-handed cutting. On a sailboat you really want to be able to cut rope fast in an emergency, and this knife made me feel safer. Also, despite the sheepsfoot blade I never felt unarmed carrying it with those wicked serrations.
I have the Bow River. It’s not a great quality knife, the blade could be a better steel. What it does well, is slice! I only use it for that purpose now. It’s my camping cooking knife. It’s kept clean and hygienic and used for nothing else. Thanks for this vid, very informative.
Talking about the Yojimbo looking weird but the whole brand is weird if you see it for the first time 😂. Don’t get me wrong, the Spyderco’s are starting to grow on me too😊
Very true, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes having some variety allows users to get a model that best meet their needs. eg. I first bought a PM2 in S30V and it worked well. However, in a new job I found myself wanting more edge retention and went and bought another one with M4 steel. Have a great day.
I carried a stainless Dragonfly for decades as my EDC, but I replaced it a few years ago with a Lil Native, which is only slightly larger but has better ergonomics.
Love my Manix 2 in S110V. Spyderco is just a perfect high quality production company period with a soul these days. There's something for everyone in all price classes. And I think sal and Eric are such admirable warm hearted people.
Yeah but they sure gave us a giant middle finger for the factory seconds sale. I just got into knives in the last 8 months or so. My first spyderco was the pm2 s90v. Then two weeks ago when all the major sites had a spyderco sale I went crazy and bought 6 more knives from them. Had no clue a factory seconds sale was right around the corner. Found out I about the seconds sale the night before and I tried getting on the site at exactly 9am when the sale started. The site wasn’t loading. Diffused I’d wait a few more hours and try again, 3pm still didn’t load. Finally when I came back at 4pm I got to the sale knives, the only thing worth buying was a Native 5 maxamet. I immediately added to my cart and tried to check out but got a message “sorry, we just sold out of this item.” Later that night I saw screen shots of what knives were on sale in the beginning and the insanely low prices they were marked. Couldn’t be more p!ssed. Spent $800 with them in the last month and when a really good sale came around I wasn’t even able to make a purchase cuz their site wasn’t working. Feels like a giant slap in the face. Came to find out the same thing happened to tons of other people.
I'm brand new to knife collecting. First knife is already a dream knife, the reate exo m. But recently found out spiderco is colorado based and today went to their factory direct warehouse in golden. Chase was very knowledgeable and helped me learn more about knives and helped me pick up knife 2 and 3: military 2 and delica 4. Really happy with them. He was also very upfront with some details like the fact i could find them cheaper online (like blade hq) but i have no problem paying a little more premium to support local.
I absolutely love going to their factory. I was just there yesterday and was checking out their custom Santa Fe stoneworks knifes. My god I love them lol
Great dialog terrible filming. Believe it or not we want to see the knives up very close and for long periods of time and we don't want or need to see you at all, especially from ten feet away. To see what a professional knife video looks like watch and learn from Nick Shabazz.
Great video. While I do love a number of their designs, 3 things keep me coming back. Quality, steel variety & heat treatment. Only ever had a couple of minor quality issues - mostly to do with blade centring. Now I appreciate steel variety & heat treating may not be of interest to many. However, if you want a variety of steel in your diet & you want to know that you're getting the best out of it, then I can easily recommend Spyderco. You'll notice that Spyderco rarely leads the charge in using new steels because they take their time to dial in a good heat treat first. I'll take the halo off now. Sharp blades all.
Spyderco makes the best knives. Period. The tenacious I have carried for 7 years. I’ll take the extra weight and an easier to sharpen blade for $100 cheaper all day.
I own a Spyderco UKPK because I live in a country with stricter knife laws so I really appreciate their slip joints.. safer use than most other slip joints because of great ergonomics, built quality and the best finger choil ever.. love it!
I recently bought a Tenacious lightweight on a whim, and as my first spyderco, I couldn't believe the quality of build for the price I paid ($40). Needless to say, spyderco gained a new fan will be seeing a lot of my money in their bank account.
Welcome my friend ❤ I think the Tenacious is one of the best knives from and for spyderco itself as it very often the starting point of a long addiction for more expensive spyderco models. At least for a few people that I know it was exactly like that, including myself 😂
Spyderco also has a little-acknowledged Byrd line of budget knives. They're similar to the Value folder series in that they are 8Cr13MoV steel and made in China, but they tend to run a bit cheaper, and they have a couple of hawkbill and wharncliff shaped blades that are interesting in their own right.
Just bought my Tenacious today and love it!!! So much knife for the money and crazy sharp, and honestly feels better than my benchmade bugout. Stay safe out there!!!
This guy needs a different job, I hate watching him on camera, bladehq used to have the best knife video guys and now this dude ruins every video they make. Sad
My most used spyderco: the ladybug. It’s always on my keys and is a great knife. Although I use it as a secondary or back up knife, I could get away with 90% of my cutting tasks with it.
If you love the Tenacious (assuming 8Cr steel) - you'll absolutely love the Shaman & PM2. The step up in terms of performance is massive regardless of which steel you go with. While there is some step-up in handle ergos and overall quality - it's the steel where you get the jump. Regardless of S30V, S35VN or S45VN etc.... the improvement in sharpness & edge retention is awesome. You even get a bump up in corrosion resistance. Yes, they are a bit harden to sharpen bit the performance hit is well worth it. Have a great day.
I have a PM2 in maxamet. I love the way the steel tarnishes and shows its age. I was gutted when it first got marked and spoiled the pristine asthetic but I love the battle scars now.
It was my first Spyderco. Loved the design and quality so much many years later I now own 12 or so Spydercos of various models and steels. Don't regret it at all. Have a great day.
Started with sub 5 dollar gas station fish bowl knive that was next to the cash register, then bought a two cheap Spydercos- meadowlark / Byrd, then I decided to buy a tenacious which was about double the price, which I still carry edc. Along with other knives, I bought a Gayle Bradley2, Smock, and a pm2 in maxamet
@19:43 That's called a dinner knife not a butter knife. This is a very thought out and informative video. You forgot about the Manix its one of the best!
Just know they are way overpriced. That's all you need to know going into Spyderco. I have a Para 3 G-10 & I do love it. Fits me perfectly. It's almost perfect. If only it had a Tanto blade... I wish.
Been EDCing the PM2 with the full spidey edge for about 5 years now! I try carrying other knives from time to time, but always come back to my precious!
Don't buy a Police 4 Lightweight, it will ruin knives for you. Nothing else will be up to standard in ergonomics and ease of carry for such a large, slicey blade, and you will sadly stop buying knives because anything else will be a downgrade. If it's too big for your local laws then don't buy the newest Manix 2 lightweight with the removable hardware, because the same applies. They both feel so good in hand, cut so well, and are so light you forget you have them on you. They are the only 2 folders I need.
I got the 15V PM2 as my first Spyderco. Been using it to open boxes and stuff at work daily ever since, and it still slices through paper like a laser. The ergos are great, and I may never need to put an edge on it at this rate. That steel is awesome.
A 15v PM2 is a monster of a first Spyderco, most of us who get bit by the spider start with a Delica, or a Tenacious. You just jump right into the deep end don't ya? Lol. Wish I could get my hands on one a them, I just can't bring myself to pay what they're going for on the secondary market.
Awesome video! I'm curious how y'all feel about the Manix 2? Just picked one up in 20CV, I absolutely love it. Stung a little bit to not see it on the list 🤔. Keep up the great work!
Manix 2 is perfect. My favorite edc now. Just bought one and have been carrying it for a few weeks. I carried a para3 for years (which is also amazing), but the manix 2 ticks all my boxes.
@davidf3974 thanks David. I couldn't be happier with it! Was very excited to snag the 20cv exclusive from KnifeJoy a few weeks back. My only complaint is that it's lime green! Which isn't a real issue, I'll just grab some extra scales for it at some point.
If I had to guess it'd be because they probably didn't have any in stock at the time of recording the video. I remember asking the same question around 3 years ago about the Bugout not being shown on a Benchmade Buyer's Guide video, and the media guys commented back saying something like "we would have featured it, if you guys didn't buy them all" lol
As I understand, the plan is for all the Golden, CO, USA evergreen models will get Salt versions in yellow FRN and MagnaCut. First up is probably those that already have lightweight FRN models. The Native 5 Salt in MagnaCut is already out (but never in stock), the Manix 2 Salt prototype has been shown at blade shows, and probably the Para 3 and Native Chief will follow.
What about the native chief!!! Bigger brother of the native and shaman in my opinion. Also the stretch 2 xl is hard to beat. Slowly growing my spydie collection. Love the video
Thanks for sharing your Vintage opinion I already own 2 Spiderco knives and they are the best knives that I have ever owned for what I use them for I have had these knives for 35years and they have worked very well I didn't have time to listen to your podcast thanks. GOD-BLESS.
While the texture is awesome for hard use as it helps with grip. If you're wearing gloves obviously you don't notice. However, a couple of options for general EDC would be good. Have a great day.
I had two benchmades. The springs on one rusted to failure. The other one had both springs break simultaneously while opening. Now I’m a spyderco guy. Never had a problem with their locks
I own many spydercos (carrying para 3 lightweight m390 right now). Love my endura in k390 and yojimbo 2 as well. I just hate the price hikes. I need to get a manix 2 sometime soon but can’t justify spending that much. Fortunately I’m focused on filling out a fixed blade lineup for field work and on a TOPS kick right now. I know spyderco isn’t the only one but seeing blades get close to $200 as a middle price still hurts me
I have for sale a PM2 original in digital camo scales if anyone is interested. The knife was never used. I myself am not crazy about it. I like my Vallotton. I personally think the Vallotton is underrated. It's one of the best knives I've ever seen.
Nice video mate, i have few knives from different companies like Microtech, Demko, ZT etc but consider myself big Spyderco fan and have more Spyderco knives than any other.
I carry an ambitious everyday and with that i carry it with me when i go camping. I agree with what he said about 8cr, it is really easy to sharpen and takes no time to touch the edge up if needed.
Smock is a Taiwan Spydie not USA made. And SUPPER EXCITED for the Military 2. Going away next month so gotta put away for that, but that is definitely gonna be next knife purchase. Hopeythe black blade ones will be out by then.
The Smock.........been meaning to get one for so long, but then there was the Caribbean, with the sheep's foot, then the Kapara came available after being out of stock for almost forever, smock finally became available....... at the same time the last few ZT0562CF were being released, if i missed my chance now I might never get a new one......and it went on like that for the longest time, having to jump over hurdle after hurdle, until the latest batch was released and I told myself...its the Smocks turn now.
@Ratchman_5000 I did bud and it's as nice as I hoped it would be. The button compression is genius, when you see how it works you'll wonder why it's so uncommon. I'd prefer to appreciate the stock Smock before I start looking for sprints, just my opinion
@@speckledjim_ it'll have to wait a bit longer now.. blade hq has the demko ad20.5 in 20cv Ultem(slicer version) for $139. I don't own a shark lock yet, but it's on the way now!
Best for last: the Stretch 2 in K390 should be in more wishlists. Size and ergos of the Para 2 or Manix 2, but with a slicier blade geometry, and that amazing steel, arguably the best combination of wear resistance and toughness for EDC (roughly between M4 and 10V).
I was gonna buy the stretch k390 while blade HQ had it on sale for 127 but ended up buying a second native chief s30v from knives ship free for 140.... Considering I paid 168 for the first one and now they usually sell for 191 I chose to stretch the wait on the stretch lol
I'm a little sad y'all left out the Native Chief, I feel like the Shaman is less representative of the Native series while the Chief is everything the Native 5 is but longer. For anyone who likes big knives but doesn't like how large in the pocket most big Spydercos feel, the Chief is really the way to go. Oh man, also no love for the Police 4! It's one of the earliest Spyderco designs, and the lightweight versions pack a lot of blade into a package that disappears in the pocket. The K390 version provides the ultimate slicing tool, with the high edge retention steel being enhanced by a full flat grind and distal taper. It's great for self defense, for first responders, for EDC, and even works well in the kitchen as a paring knife. Big knives can do small knife jobs, but small knives can't do big knife jobs!
Blackie Collins and Pete Gerber developed the first plastic (injection molded) FRN handled knife in the early 1980's. The knife was called the LST and is still in production today.
The para 3 with a lynch clip is pretty much without equal to me. When are spyderco gonna start putting good deep carry pocket clips on them? Not a huge fan of the para 3 lightweight though. They should have gone with a thinner blade to go with the lighter duty handle and gained some slicing ability. If you’re considering a para 3 lightweight, get a delica instead. If you want beefier, get the para 3.
Just got a Para 2 in CruWear. As I was showing it to an older guy at church he goes “Why’s it gotta tick on it?” Lol do love them though. Have never had any issues with them.
i have a question, it's fell known that Endura has a little blade play from the pivot side, what can you tell about Stretch 2? Is it build more rigid than Endura? If you have an experience of using it of course.
Some of my favorite fixed blades are Spyderco's. My current collection is mostly Spyderco with some Benchmade, a few ZT's and other brands, but the Bug is my favorite logo!
I got judged by my family (English family but moved to southern state) for watched/being interested in pocket knives and a family member saw me watching this video and now deemed me as a “potential school threat” I have no guns plus I’m gladly happy in college but is very unhappy with my Osborne which i sadly lost somehow
This is by far the best video in RUclips showing main Spyderco knives. Great knives selection and very well presented. A lot of valuable information there!
I have wayyy too many Spyderco’s! That said… The Delica4 is absolutely a baller! I have an XL glove size and love the Delica! It does Eveything and anything! Get it in Cruwear or M4 and it’s bulletproof and tough as he11…
Bought a Military 2 last year. I forget if it was in November or December. I have a lot of knives in my collection. The Mili 2 is my runaway favorite among all of them. If I had to sell my collection, I would keep my Military 2.
I’m a huge fan of the dragonfly 2 as well. I like the lines, and I scent found a better option for carrying in gym shorts when you want super lightweight, but still want to have a firm grip and enough blade to get you through most common tasks. It works well with the wire pocket clip, whereas some of the bigger knives do not.

No chef or manix? That is absurd
I'd add the Kapara as well
@19:43 That's called a dinner knife not a butter knife. This is a very thought out and informative video. You forgot about the Manix its one of the best!
Over 28m n you start with drinking and obnoxious noise, no ty
When I can has my MicroJimbo pre-order?
Just know they are way overpriced. That's all you need to know going into Spyderco.
I have a Para 3 G-10 & I do love it. Fits me perfectly. It's almost perfect. If only it had a Tanto blade... I wish.
Been EDCing the PM2 with the full spidey edge for about 5 years now! I try carrying other knives from time to time, but always come back to my precious!
I thought y’all moved from Utah to Virginia?
I don’t care for spiderco knives. I find them hard to open.
The manix is a spyderco flagship brother u have the only knife you'll need for a very long time
@tay185 I couldn't agree more. Same for me, I've got a para3 in S110v and I absolutely love it!
Police, NightStick, and Street Bowie. Top 3 must haves.
My two favorites did not make this list.... Manix 2 and Sage 5. Why no love?
I want a military 2 in cru-wear
Manix 2????
I love this guide! I can't wait for a Cold Steel one!
MANIX 2!!!
Again, PM2 in Magnacut is looong overdue, should have been the first knife on the market
As I understand, the plan is for all the Golden, CO, USA evergreen models will get Salt versions in yellow FRN and MagnaCut. First up is probably those that already have lightweight FRN models. The Native 5 Salt in MagnaCut is already out (but never in stock), the Manix 2 Salt prototype has been shown at blade shows, and probably the Para 3 and Native Chief will follow.
i am a little disappointed that yall didnt put the manix line on this list. great video anyway lol
Great stuff very informative have 5 Spyderco knives I'm looking to get #6 maybe the stretch 2
Stretch 2 is so ugly but oh so a champion..zdp 189 is a great steel
What about the native chief!!! Bigger brother of the native and shaman in my opinion. Also the stretch 2 xl is hard to beat. Slowly growing my spydie collection. Love the video
Thanks for sharing your Vintage opinion I already own 2 Spiderco knives and they are the best knives that I have ever owned for what I use them for I have had these knives for 35years and they have worked very well I didn't have time to listen to your podcast thanks. GOD-BLESS.
I’d love some more smooth G10 scale options from spyderco. The peel ply is nice but it rips apart my pocket
Spyderco stands behind their knives. Great customer service, great owners, they're doing something right! I will stand by Spyderco forever.
The military blade is the right size for the pm2 handle.
The Smock is a great knife indeed, but instead of USA made, it's Taiwan made 👍
Nice video mate, i have few knives from different companies like Microtech, Demko, ZT etc but consider myself big Spyderco fan and have more Spyderco knives than any other.
I carry an ambitious everyday and with that i carry it with me when i go camping. I agree with what he said about 8cr, it is really easy to sharpen and takes no time to touch the edge up if needed.
how are you not going to show a Manix 2? One of the best ambidextrous knives of all time with a super innovative and strong lock design.
Did you get one? I'm working on my spydie collection and it's next on my list. I almost want to wait till there's a sprint or exclusive though.
The Spyderco will always be number one followed closely by Benchmade. Sentiment notwithstanding, ie mother of pearl Case.
I worked on tow boats, the Atlantic Salt was with me for a very long time! Super maritime blade!
I want a Slysz Bowie, not buying another Spydie until those are available.
Anyone happen to have a Spyderco Wegner, ATS-34 blade? One real heavy duty folder. Made back in 1997.
I do
Spydie forever....not known yet the Amalgon is the very best folding bushcraft knife on the table...GREAT KNIFE!!!!!!!
It's a great outdoor knife for sure..strong flat ground drop point blade that can handle it...the more I use this knife the more I like it...
Great knife that is a sleeper....
What about the Manix 2?
Best for last: the Stretch 2 in K390 should be in more wishlists. Size and ergos of the Para 2 or Manix 2, but with a slicier blade geometry, and that amazing steel, arguably the best combination of wear resistance and toughness for EDC (roughly between M4 and 10V).
I was gonna buy the stretch k390 while blade HQ had it on sale for 127 but ended up buying a second native chief s30v from knives ship free for 140.... Considering I paid 168 for the first one and now they usually sell for 191 I chose to stretch the wait on the stretch lol
Except lock back instead of compression with the Borin higher up like on the paras
No Police model? For shame.
You included the smock in the USA made section. I believe it's made I Taiwan
Thanks for keeping me honest! That's a goof on my part. Your place in heaven shall always be assured! -George
Blackie Collins and Pete Gerber developed the first plastic (injection molded) FRN handled knife in the early 1980's. The knife was called the LST and is still in production today.
My first quality knife was a Gerber "Bolt Action" What a blade!
I think the manix 2 deserves some shine too...love that knife
Just bought an Enuff a few weeks ago. Absolutely awesome ergonomics. Now I'm looking at an Enuff 2.
I'll tell you what!!!!!! Tell someone who climbs for fun that a serrated knife isn't important!!!???? Lol
I got judged by my family (English family but moved to southern state) for watched/being interested in pocket knives and a family member saw me watching this video and now deemed me as a “potential school threat” I have no guns plus I’m gladly happy in college but is very unhappy with my Osborne which i sadly lost somehow
don't become a statistic, its not worth it.
This is by far the best video in RUclips showing main Spyderco knives. Great knives selection and very well presented. A lot of valuable information there!
Great review. Will you do that for other brands such as Cold steel?
Dragonfly is severely underrated. Especially the salt model
Manix 2?
