Visited Benchmade HQ back in 2011 when I was nearby for work. I was in the military at the time and we were issued Benchmades. I left a note for the CEO to say thanks for making products we can trust our lives on. He later emailed me a very nice personal note, which I thought was so cool.
    Been a fan since.

@@mikejurnak4253 we'll quit complaining when they get better QC than the mid-tier Chinese companies like Kizer and We.
A $160 made in USA knife shouldn't be outclassed by a $160 Chinese knife in terms of QC.
You can argue that labor and materials cost more in the US, but it was always made up for with greater QC standards. Now, benchmade can't even say that anymore.

We don't like to admit that 95% of the time we use our pocket knives to open a package, which leaves our families wondering why the heck we drop $200-$300 on a knife whose job any $5 box cutter would do. We must be crazy.

The Flyway refers to a migration route ducks use. It is made for the delicate work of cleaning birds. I have a Bugout, Bailout, and Infidel. The partially serrated Bailout is by far my favorite. It's like having three blades in one.

I am a BENCHMADE addict. I currently have 14 of them with 3 more on preorder. The reason the two speakers kept comparing the bailOUT and the taggedOUT to the bugOUT is because they are a series. The blade thickness is the exact same on all three models. The tips differ because they have different purposes. The blade length is also the exact same. The handles are slightly different to accommodate the intended purpose. The “rubberized” they kept talking about is called santoprene it is a synthetic. I can attest to the durability of this material. The puko is my EDC fixed blade. The puko and leuku are also intended to be a set. Both knives are fantastic plus 3V is one of my favorite steel M4 and Magnacut being my top 3. Followed by cruewear being number 4 and 1905 being number 5. For those of you who don’t know, cruewear is literally an upgraded formula of D2. CPM created cruewear in the 80’s. It’s also not a new super steel it’s old school super steel. It is what all “super steel” today is compared to. D2 is a very popular steel for all the reasons the tool steels are popular steels (tool steel starts with a letter followed by a number. I.e D2, M4, W2, A1) the reason D2 is so popular is because it’s a anomaly being that it is in fact a tool steel which means it has a higher amount of carbon. 12-13% carbon in D2. To be considered a stainless steel it needs 11% or less of carbon. So D2 is a good choice cruewear is a better choice and now Magnacut will rule them all. Btw I am so excited for my preorder mini adamas in Magnacut and my preorder taggedout in Magnacut both from BladeHQ. If you feel like buying one Benchmade is too expensive I urge you to reconsider. I do agree that if a person wants just a pocket knife to last them the rest of there life getting a basic bugout is the best option also a basic griptilion or a basic 940 also good. But better to upgrade the blade steel and the handle material. I don’t personally like S30V (It’s brittle) but most people will never meet the limit of that steel. I have been a a loyal customer of bladehq for a very very long time.

One thing I don’t get about guys that judge off what steel your blade is (if they’re really prepping to be in the bush or a survival situation) do they carry a Diamond stone? Because you’re not gonna sharpen a super steel on a wet stone you find in the bush. Try and sharpen some s30v lmax or m390 on a cheap sharpening tool. Gonna destroy your knife or it’ll take you forever (because it won’t work) having a softer steel that you can sharpen a rock you find at the river makes more sense imo if you’re stuck out there and it’s all you got

I appreciate that you have a good amount of USA knives, which most all of the Benchmade are, AFAIK. I admit, I have a bugout 535-3 as my EDC, and have a Hidden Canyon for skinning, I could skin with the bugout if I really had to, I just prefer a fixed blade. My most cherished blade doesn't have a name, it's a 4" version of a clip point (mini bowie) that my dad gave me when I was about 4 years old, I have cleaned dozens of fish and taught myself to sharpen on. The old beat up leather sheath has my dad's initials carved into it. It can shave hair, but I broke the tip off using it like a screwdriver so it's been reshaped at the tip. I think it's time to pass it along to my own son...he only got to meet my dad once and he was young and doesn't remember. I have a couple other nicer knives, an Alan Kartzen (framelock) that is much nicer than the bugout with timascus...but it's too big in my front pocket, where I carry the bugout...in the end the Bugout wins...Let freedom ring!🗽

Before you buy a Benchmade… buy one of the many other brands that do the crossbar lock far better (and cheaper) than Benchmade.
The hogue deka is cheaper with better materials than the bugout and IMO the implementation of the lock is better, it’s much easier to get good action without blade play. I have the magnacut version with OG aluminium scales on it and it’s incredible
The best crossbar lock I have tried is on the Kunwu pulsar, it has beautifully textured titanium tabs on the lock rather than just pulling back the bar itself, it’s on bearings so it has perfect drop shut action while having not even a hint of play in any direction - which is something you’ll never find on a Benchmade. Also if Benchmade released the pulsar they would probably charge like $1200 😂😂
I have a Kizer drop bear on the way which has an adjustable crossbar lock and is also on bearings. Excited to see how it stacks up

Mini grip! One of Benchmades best knives..probably the best bang for buck, especially when it was under $100 a few years ago and you could choose from a bunch of different colors. I just bought a mini presidio 2 and it's a badass knife as well. But the mini grip will always go down as the most ergonomic pocket knife available. The longer you have it and use it the more everything about the mini grip makes sense. It just sits in your pocket so well and the little audible click you hear when you pull it from your pocket is satisfying. Not to mention how easy it is to open with one hang and then flick it close. You'll find yourself jonesin on Benchmades designs because they market well, but be assured that the little griptilian is their bread and butter and they are fools for discontinuing from their custom shop.

Oh and it has a full liner unlike the full size grip and bugout and claymore ! Blows all those knives outta the water and is cheaper! Anyone who says it's too small, yeah tell that too the deer I gutted up and skinned. The 20 cv on mine requires more elbow grease to sharpen but it stays sharp a lot longer. After 5 years of carrying it and it being fidgeted with thousands of times, the only that happened was the spring became dislodged and so I had to manually open and close the knife, but it would still lock into place and work! After about 4 months of it being like that, I sent it in and back she came clean and oiled, with a new spring! Sent me a couple of oxided deep carry clips for free too! If your the type of person who is constantly losing their stuff and keep nice things, these over 100 dollar pocket knives are not for you. But if you can keep track of your stuff and boy when you fork out over 100 for a knife, you will! Then they are worth it. Their prices are getting out a little crazy but it's not crazy if you're not a collector and use your stuff.

I've got the original 940 in s30v and the bailout in aluminum and m4...for those I see complaining about the action being stiff, both of mine slicked right up after a day or two of fidgeting and will now drop shut completely on their own..... although they are pricey,I'm a fan.

When I feel like the action is too stiff, I just take a little bit of tension out of the hub bolt. An 8th to a quarter turn is usually enough.

When benchmade knives were still in that 100-200 dollar price range, I bought several and really like them. They have absolutely lost their minds with pricing and I won’t buy a single knife from them at these prices. That raghorn is great but 400 dollars is asinine. I hope they take a hit to sales and reconsider their pricing.

Conclusion: Benchmade needs to offer more blade options for their more EDC focused knives like the bugout and presidio. I'd love a sheepsfoot bugout. Their pricing is also getting kinda wacky on some of their knives. Bugout shouldn't be $180 new (200+ if you add even the slightest options like ends grivory)

LITTLE KNOW FACT: The best Benchmade is the Presidio 2. My fav is the Bugout, due to its almost weightless nature but the best performing, most durable, most rugged knife in the Benchmade lineup is objectively the Presidio 2. I batoned it through a tree the circumference of a double roll of toilet paper and it didn’t fail once. Absolutely incredible knife.

I just got my Benchmade 940 Osborne, love the feel and quality of it, but I'd be lying if i said the Kershaw Iridium doesn't deliver the exact same feel and quality at a fraction of the price, sure the steel isn't AS good but D2 is still a good quality steel and came from Kershaw razor blade sharp, overall idk whether to call Benchmade overpriced or Kershaw an amazing underdog

Best knife Benchmade makes. It's too bad they discontinued it from the custom shop. I had a bugout too ended up giving it to my brother who's an electrician. For not having a full liner, I must say that knife stood up to some abuse. He would strip wires with that blade and it only ever had a small couple chips in the blade. He ended up loosing it and I forsure wouldn't buy another one at what they cost now , like $180. One thing I didn't like about it was it's a palm slicer when it dropped shut. . my mini grip has never chopped my paw. It sure was a cute Morel mushroom picking knife before I gave it to my brother but I share your same thoughts. Something about the mini grip! Everything about it is perfect for a pocket knife. The way it sits in your pocket, to deploying it, flicking it close all with one hand and then back into the pocket, shit is satisfying!

    • @mknight6556
      @mknight6556 Год назад

I like how you mentioned the Frn format too. Even tho I have the G10 one with 20 cv. The Frn one is the best. Just feels solid , don't know why ppl complain about the FRN, it feels good even with wet hands and is pretty durable even when dropped. At least way better feeling than the full sized grip. Too plasticky. Something to be said about something more compact, itll always feel more solid. Their G10 is so slippery. Im actually not a huge fan of the free flow design with spacers like all the G10 ones were. All the lint and dust and crap gets in there and yeah I just don't like it as much as the cheaper ones! The closed back is.the way to go. I don't want lint getting onto my blade! Even if you have a bunch of loose change in your pocket, those little coins could potentially get into the backspacers and dull up your blade. Keep rocking on with the mini grip 🤟
