I wonder when they will try out rug tufting since they enjoy this I'm sure the transition to making rugs would be the next step, and we all know it would be a joobie rug for Katelyn and a chaotic galaxy for Evan?

      YES

    • @sarahsnow9088
      @sarahsnow9088 2 месяца назад +24

Yes! Please try it. I can think of many reasons why both of them would love it.
      1. You have to be more controlled than with lets say, needle felting for example, as there are steps and rules that need to be followed to get a good rug result which I feel Katelyn will really enjoy while Evan will be a bit more willing to push the boundaries of the rules to see what really can or cannot be done.
      2. The planning of the rug before hand that I think K will enjoy can be complimented by E need for seeing how artistic you can make a piece think like a Bob Ross painting but in rug form.
      3. After the initial cost of getting the tufting gun and discounted yarn being able to see just how much of the other items can be DIY made to save costs will be perfect for the "bought vs DIY" type episodes they sometimes do.
      4. It would make a great live stream too so everyone watching can see just how much time really goes into making a custom rug, like how long goes into making needle felting art, this way those who want to buy instead of DIY can understand why some artists charge what they do for their rugs.
      5. The rugs can add sound dampening to the workshop while also adding art since you can hang them on a wall if you don't want to walk on your work.
      6. Kitty can have a new scratching surface if they can find out what yarn type she enjoys scratching.
      7. Rugs can be used in more parts of life than just one.

@@EvanandKatelynUncutI actually got into needle felting ilafter watching your first video on it, and it's been great, so thank you for that. From what I've seen, you haven't mentioned the different types, or gauges of needles. If you're wanting to move a lot of wool fast, you're best bet is to use a thicker gauge needle. So 36 or 38ish. If you combine that with one of the multi needle gadgets, you will see a stark difference in how fast you can shape your wool. Once it becomes difficult to push the needle(s) into the wool, that's the sign to either drop down to a smaller gauge, or fewer needles, or both.

As a hobby jeweler, those optivisors (the magnifying headband) are GREAT. They're especially helpful when working on really small things, though usually jewelers usually work much closer to the face than a standard desk and chair setup would have you. so being just a couple of inches away is actually the ideal focus range for that. I know of other artisans who use them for painting or glazing ceramics, and I've heard of dentists refining things like crowns or dentures with them. Pretty specific use cases, but *very* helpful for the purpose.
ETA: as a glasses wearer, I leave my glasses on while using them, too. They're magnifiers, not corrective lenses. So any shortcomings in your vision will carry over without your Rx lenses too.

To get rid of all the fuzzies at the end you just need a sharp pair of scissors (smaller ones used for sewing or nails) and you just go around and give it a close trim. You can make them super smooth with no fluff at all.

Often couples have their own hobbies that they do separately so it's lovely to see you both enjoying activities together. I remember watching my parents spend a lifetime at opposite ends of their house as my mum sat in the living room knitting while my dad would be upstairs with his computer and all of the couples I know follow that pattern too. Thanks for demonstrating that it isn't impossible for partners to actually do stuff together.
I also adore how clearly you both show your love for each other. Such a cute couple!

Even without doing the exact same thing they could share a hobby because Evan could engineer something and Katelyn could make it aesthetic

The trick to getting equal sized arms/legs/eyes/etc, is to get 2 equal sized fluffs of wool before you start felting it down, since you'll most likely be compressing them pretty equally to each other. Then if you realize they're ending up too small, get 2 equal sized pieces again to add.
For something like Calcifer though, he's kind of an amorphous shape so having unequal limbs isn't really an issue.

I was gonna say, they probably "don't help" because they don't have bad vision to begin with and therefore don't need the aid that the magnifiers give. xD It's not that they're useless at all, it's that E&K have no use for them as they are now.

Needle felter here. I've tried both felting machines. The single needle machine is a definite must have. I would recommend using a thick leather glove so you don’t hurt yourself with it. I also had the multi-needle tool and a part snapped off it after several uses. It appears to be made from a 3D printer and not made from very good material. I don't recommend it at all. I have a small iron for smoothing but i dont use it very often. I never even knew that there was magnifying googles for felting. I don't think that I would bother buying them even if I knew 😂

I've got a simplified version of the headlight. It doesn't have the swivel down round magnifying lens. I've only really used the lenses for fine detailed work (seed beads or painting very small areas on minis). The absolute most useful thing about it is the light, which is primarily what I use it for. Neither of my crafting areas have great lighting, and my sewing machine light is...okay, I guess, but I need light coming in from a different angle.

I use magnifying goggles like that sometimes, they're useful for inspecting things and generally working on small things you can hold up in front of you while working on them.
I use them quite a bit while working on electronics when I don't want to use my microscope, for small things it's nicer on the neck.
These ones do seem to have way shorter focal length than mine, or Katelyn is more nearsighted than me.

2:57:09 Evan’s intuition about Calcifer was correct! Spoilers for Howl’s Moving Castle below.
In the movie, Howl makes a deal with Calcifer and gives the demon his heart. Calcifer uses Howl’s heart like a source for his fire, so even though it’s not technically a coal like Evan thought, it’s serving the same function. Calcifer can’t live without it or detach from it, so that’s why Evan has a memory of Sophie scooping it up to move Calcifer around.

I got that exact same magnifying headset but in white for my dad for his birthday last year. He loved that thing, with his old eyes it worked wonders for the trinkets and watches hed work on and fix, sadly he passed away last month and the magnifier got broken in his decline of his health and mental functions. But its a great tool for those that have a need for it.

    Needle felting tip!
U could brush out regular yarn with a slicker brush and use that as the felt
It gives u a lot more color options and I've noticed the finished product tends to be softer
I've done this with multiple types of yarn and the only one it didn't work great for was cotten yarn

I'm so sad I never get notified for your Twitch lives anymore and I just checked to make sure that they were still turned on, and they are! 🥺

Random tangent thinking about your tie dye crafts - have you tried tie dye with batik? I even wonder if you could batik with bleach or if it would eat the wax? You can make super awesome line art, crackle art and anything random you both dream up.

The magnifying glasses are good for crafts you can bring close to your face that require precise vision (like crochet)

“Are you ready?” “No.” (10 seconds later) “Are you ready?” “No…. I’ll tell you when I’m ready.”

Evan cutting toward his hand had me cringing so hard and just covering my eyes waiting for disaster. So glad it didn't end in bloodshed! 😂❤

It’s funny how you mention putting on your streams in the background as I always put your streams on when I crochet!

Magnifiers are typically used for fine detail work. I use magnifying glasses when painting miniatures.

I wonder if the log wouldve been easier if you guys had started with grey and then added a dark brown on one side bc calcifer's log was mostly dark grey black and a bit of brown.

They make needle felting machines that look like sewing machines. They're only intended for flat felting, not 3d, but they're pretty cool. The handheld ones are probably best for flat felting, too

I have a headaet that came with a series of different lenses which is great for seeing different levels of detail. I use it for mini painting and cross stitch
