My daughter who is nine and I found this video by accident. She never laughed so much watching a crafting video as she did with this one. She said its like a craft for serial killers. Epic video, strange craft, but a craft that has two new enthusiasts. Neither of us are serial killers I might add.
😂 aw thank you so much for this, glad you and your daughter enjoyed it 😁 I'm relieved to hear that neither of you are serial killers 🤣 I'm not either by the way 😁 glad I've converted you to the craft of needle felting, thanks for watching.
My mom and sister were telling me if u are angry ,this helps hahah I recently started with needle felt paintings and I made a few hearts, this video is so helpful,I want to learn to do more.
I remember felting as a teenager at school and I ended up with a chameleon that looked like it had been killed on the road (my family lovingly baptized it Roadkill). I had no idea about these common beginner mistakes I had made while felting. I wish my teacher had noticed and guided me more in the process. At least now I know what my mistakes were and I can try felting again!
Oh dear! Poor Roadkill 😊 I hope you do try felting again, it can take a while to get the hang of how firm you need to roll it and how long you need to stab for 😊 glad you found it helpful, thanks for watching
I have just found you! I honestly feel that a link to your tutorials should be given with every beginners kit, every set of needles, and every ounce of wool purchased. I started needle felting eight months ago and you have taught me more in this eight minutes than I have learned in the whole eight months. Thank you so much Julie. I have decided that I am going to watch one video of yours each day and I am going to pass on the link to your tutorials to every beginner I come across. Needless to say, you have a new subscriber! Thank you so much. ❤
Aw thank you so much for the lovely comments Patricia, I'm so glad that you've found it helpful, I hope you enjoy the other videos, thank you for sharing my video and for subscribing 😊
This is a wonderful teaching video! You have actually started with the "basic basics" which are so often missing in other "beginner felting tutorials" I am so happy to have found you!
I'm a long time crocheter and have watched so many tutorials. I wanted to start felting this is absolutely the best tutorial I've ever seen it was so clear and the humor kept me entertained and engaged !! Great work
Aw thank you so much for this lovely comment, so glad you liked the video 😊 hope you do get into felting it's a great craft, but crochet is fun too 🙂 happy crafting and thanks for watching
I am kinda relieved that I am not the only one who says stabbing the wool when explaining needle felting. I was lucky to have been watching some videos on needle felting before I did my first figure, but I still learned a lot from this video that I will use in my current project.
I made my first needle felted project at a workshop at a craft fair last week. I really enjoyed it so I bought a kit but when I sat down to make my little Robin I was really struggling to make the shape. This led my to RUclips and this brilliant set of beginner videos which I’ve been binge watching and will probably watch several more time. Thanks to you my little Robin may actually be completed and not consigned to the back of a cupboard 🥰
Aw thank you for sharing this, so glad my videos have helped you, hope you do get your robin finished, thanks for watching and for the lovely comments 😊
I tried about 2 years ago and struggled and I've just decided to try again with a beginner kit making a tiny red panda. This video was super helpful and taught me so much ❤
My teacher actually used this as a introduction video for my class on this craft! I kinda fell in love with it since i realllyyy like sculpting and seeing this stuff come together, ive made 3 so far and its SO FUN!! Very happy this video got me into it!
Aw thanks for this, I'm glad you found the video helpful and that it got you into needle felting 😁 please thank your teacher for me too 😊 I love to hear that the videos help people and it's great that you're enjoying this craft. Thanks for watching
I'm learning to felt to make a remembrance for a friend. I'll be incorporating fibers from her mum who passed last year. Thank you for making it all made sense ❤
I really like how you build upon your videos. It's definitely a whole tutorial in all of the videos. I like how they are short. Not too much info at any one time. That they key really.
🤣 yes he's certainly a character, he can be a bit grumpy sometimes though, but on the plus side at least he doesn't cost much in pet food 😉 he also features in a couple of my recent videos 😊 glad you thought he was funny 😁 thanks for watching 🦉🦉🦉
I'm so glad I found your channel! I love that your videos are short but packed full of great instruction! That person that said "maybe needlefelting just isn't for me"? That was me. Now I have to keep trying before I give away my supplies! Thank you!
Thanks for watching, glad you found it helpful, you might want to check out my video on when to stop stabbing for more in this: ruclips.net/video/oR-RlKflN4w/видео.html
I’m so glad I found this video and your channel overall! I just started needle felting. I tried making two sheep with little to no instruction just to dive into fun but your video is super helpful!
I've been felting off and on over the past year, and I'm always open/looking for advice! It's nice to find your channel (subbed!), I love your humour and no-nonsense tips/explanation. I'm keen to watch your other videos too. Thank you! 🙃🦊🦉✨
This was so helpful! Just recently got into needle felting and have been more or less figuring it out as I go (which has had mixed results lol). This is a great video and I really enjoyed your humor :) I'll definitely be checking out your other content for more advice
Thank you! I saw a whole bunch of yt shorts and tiktoks on needle felting and it seemed really relaxing especially with the sound of it (which I wrongly believed to be the sound of needle felting wool into a pre created foam shape). So the moment I saw a needle felting kit I spared no time to grab it. After watching this video I’m excited to jump straight back into working on it and i might even try making my own one day!
Thanks for your comments, I find it a very relaxing craft, glad you're excited to get needle felting, hope the video helps, have fun felting and thanks for watching 😊
I got so scared for a second- I miss heard how long it’ll take you to do the stabbing and I thought you had said 5 weeks and I was like huh ! ? A amazing video! ! I’ve just purchased a needle felting kit as a complete beginner and I’m definitely going to come back to your videos 😊
Thank you so much for including the timings, I spent the best part of 5 hours stabbing a little bunny and thought I must be doing something wrong!😒 Now I know you just have to keep going until you feel happy with it. x
Thank you for this, glad you found the timings helpful, but please bear in mind it is difficult to give a definitive length of time you should stab for as it does vary depending on lots of things 😊 hopefully the real time footage in the top right corner helps to see the speed I actually stab at and how felted the item becomes. Rolling the wool very tightly before you begin will also help reduce how long you need to stab for, happy felting 🙂
I want to thank you for this clip. I've just received a small kit. I thought I'll start small to see if i can do it and enjoy it. Your video makes it look easy and achievable. Thank you. I'm from South Africa
You're very welcome, I hope you find it useful, good luck with your kit, wow South Africa! I love how far and wide RUclips can reach, thanks for watching
Thank you so much!! I wasn't planning to start drawing out stuff, but it helped so much! My second ever project is a little hamster I'm starting. Drawing it was brilliant, it raised so many questions - how big should it be? How big is the head versus the body? How wide should it be? Where are his cheeks the widest? Is he sitting or standing? How far apart do the eyes go? How far out does his nose stretch? What part of his body does the nose align with? It took me a little planning and drawing but I have a very good sketch now of a hampster and I'm certain my project will look much much better for the effort. Very valuable time spent.
Thany you so much for this, this sounds brilliant, I do find drawing it out, as you say, makes you think about all the proportions, so glad you tried this and found it helpful, I think lots of people will this step but it can make all the difference 🙌 I hope your hamster turns out great, happy felting and thanks for watching
Bought a DIY kit and finished the project. The instruction was very clear so I didn’t have much trouble. Except the project took me 6 hrs to finish. The size of your owl in the video, and broke 2 needles 😅 I’m getting so old my minutes passes in hours.
Glad you managed the kit ok and finished it 😊 that's brilliant! Needle felting can take a while, if the kit has a lot of detail it will take longer I'm afraid. To try to reduce the chance of breaking your needles try to remove your needle in the same direction you went into the wool 😊 also you shouldn't have to stab with much force, hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Just got my first needle feting kit and the instructions were dismal! So glad I found your channel. Question, my wool has pox marks from the needle, what am I doing wrong?
Oh gosh, I'm sorry to hear that, yes sometimes the instructions can be really poor! I find the pox marks or holes in the wool from the needle can go less visible if you rub the wool slightly, but it may also be the size of needle or type of wool you're using. You might find my video on getting a smoother finish helpful here: ruclips.net/video/NEjy4q1QwoM/видео.html hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Thank you for your videos. Yes I am that person that started making something and it did not look anything like what it was supposed to look like so I just quit. Thanks for giving me hope.
Aw thanks for your lovely comments, I'm so glad it's given you hope and I really hope it helps you get your felted items looking as you'd like them to look, hope you have fun needle felting next time 😁
I've just received a Robin felting kit for Xmas - the instructions in the box are good but I'm sooooooo glad I looked at this tutorial. Great tips and loved the humour too! No doubt I'll be hooked on this new hobby soon (but not on the needle I hope!!)
Good luck needle felting the robin, how you enjoy the kit, thanks for this, glad my video helped and you enjoyed it. Watch out though, needle felting is very addictive 😁 have fun felting, thanks for watching
My first felting animal is a little brown bunny. It’s not perfect but I adore it! (My cat thinks so as he uses it as a toy) I greatly appreciate these little tips 😄 Happy felting!
Aw your bunny sounds cute 😊 thank you for this, just be careful that your cat doesn't love the bunny too much as the bunny might not survive very long 😬 thanks for watching and happy felting
Ordered a cat felting kit from China (not a wise idea, but I have never needle felted before). Decided today was the day I would try. My booklet came with a code to scan and the video started. No intro to what was in the kit or how to use it, she just started poking away. At the end, I said "What did I just watch?" Then your video came up and I watched it too. My poor cat would've looked like your owl if I had gone by my booklet, so thank you for explaining this for me.
Aw thank you for sharing this with me, so glad my video has helped you, I did a video reviewing a kit that sounds similar, here: ruclips.net/video/irPkSdZixBk/видео.html. So I know what you mean about the video and instructions, they're not great for an absolute beginner. Hope your cat turns out ok and you have fun felting. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for sharing this video!! Your humor made this so enjoyable 🥰 I didn't only learn new things I also had a good laugh 😂 I ordered a felt kit because I saw someone who bought one and the little animals looked so cute!! I am looking forward to the arrival and I can't wait to try my best with the guidance of your video ❤️
Oh thankyou!!! What are you felting on!? Did you felt a needle felting pad? I want to do this instead of felting on foam that some times come off in what i am felting
I'm using a woolbuddy needle felting mat, I've also recently been given a Heidifeathers wool mat, it's very comfortable to use, they are better than the foam mats and last a lot longer 🙂 hope this helped, thanks for watching
Okay. Lemme repeat this again just to make sure that I've learned from you. >The amount of wool >Compressing the amount of wool to get the shape and firmness you want >Gradual rotation of the wool to get your desired shape >The type of wool for the job >The type of needle for the job Am I missing something?
Thanks for watching, yes you've pretty much summed it all up there, but the best way to get better at needle felting is to have a go and keep practising, maybe follow one of my tutorial videos, hope you have fun felting
Thanks for this, glad you enjoy my videos, I'm afraid I don't have a particular needle felting book that I can recommend, however felts by Philippa has a video on some of the books out there, her video might help: ruclips.net/video/TdjyeW0E-Kk/видео.htmlsi=TMyGzJ-z7o4ZfWbw Thanks for watching
Im having a hard time felting thin flat things like flower petals. Do you have any tips? P.S I love your videos and they always put a smile on my face please never stop :)
Aw thanks for this 😊, glad you like the videos 😊 Thin flat things are tricky, you could try watching my video called "Needle felting an elf on the shelf Vs AI" it's here: ruclips.net/video/yHXUt73NlTg/видео.html. Especially at 5:07, where I show how I made his collar from a thin piece of felt. Also holding pieces like this between either two rules or a piece of foam and a ruler can help to hold it while you stab the edges. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Try not to worry about going wrong too much, it's a very forgiving craft. Say your making the body of the item in the kit, my advice would be to not to use all the wool that the kit gives you to make the body as you might need to add a bit more to correct the shaping. You might also find this video on correcting mistakes in needle felting helpful: ruclips.net/video/8l9GduqwWzg/видео.html It shows that you can remove arms/legs/eyes and do them again but you can't take apart wool that has been felted very firmly, but you can add wool to it, but it's harder to take away, you'd have to cut it away with scissors 😊 thanks for the question and thanks for watching
Hi Julie! I have a small problem and I think you could help me with it. So, my problem is that my needle felting projects have been a bit bumpier than before. Do you know a way to make them smoother? If not, that's okay. It would be a big help though, if you know what I might possibly be doing wrong. Thank you! 💕
Hi there, it sounds like this is a recent problem that you haven't had before, have you changed the wool that you're using? Or perhaps the needles? As either of these things could make a difference. It could also be that you're not stabbing the wool enough or as much as before? It can take a surprising amount of stabbing to get rid of bumps sometimes 😊 In case you haven't watched it here is my video on getting a smooth finish: ruclips.net/video/NEjy4q1QwoM/видео.html I hope this all helps, but it's love to hear how you get on.
Aw thanks, this could be various things, try to pull the needle out in the same direction you go in, as they are very brittle and if you bend them even slightly they will break, or it could be that you're stabbing too hard, the needle doesn't have to go into the wool that far, only as far as the barbs. It also helps to work on a mat. Also cheap needles that aren't from a reputable supplier will break more easily, Heidifeathers are a good supplier of needles. Hope this helps 😊

Aw thank you for this, thanks for watching

I just love your no nonsense transparent approach ( and your humour) x great video, thank you
Aw thank you, really glad you liked the humour 😊 thank you for your lovely feedback 😁
I think I love the first flat owl just because of his personality you gave him🦉❤️🤣
Aw thanks for this, glad you like him, he can be a bit grumpy but he is lovable 😁 thanks for watching

Thanks for the tips! I tried making a bluebird but it looked more like a blue piece of wool with eyes. I’ll definitely try again with your tips!
No problem, I hope they help you get the hang of it, a bluebird sounds like a lovely project 🙂
Your bluebird can be friends with the cursed flat owl 😆
"You haven't stabbed it enough." When did crafting get so violent? lol! 🤣
This video was very helpful! Thank you!
Lol, when you put it like that it does sound quite violent 😂 thanks for the comments and thanks for watching

Can I just say that the flat orange looking thing{ owl } is so funny, I love to keep it as a pet.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🦉🦉🦉
I've been needle felting for a while but I still learned some good tips from this video! I'm excited to try them out!
Thanks for this, glad you found it helpful, happy needle felting 😊 and thanks for watching

(My cat thinks so as he uses it as a toy) I greatly appreciate these little tips 😄
Happy felting!

Thank you great tutorial.
Glad you liked it 🙂
Oh thankyou!!!
Thank you very good hints and tips. I am learning how to felt and you have helped me a great deal. I subscribed and will watch the rest of your vids

Okay. Lemme repeat this again just to make sure that I've learned from you.
>The amount of wool
>Compressing the amount of wool to get the shape and firmness you want
>Gradual rotation of the wool to get your desired shape
>The type of wool for the job
>The type of needle for the job
Am I missing something?
Thanks for watching, yes you've pretty much summed it all up there, but the best way to get better at needle felting is to have a go and keep practising, maybe follow one of my tutorial videos, hope you have fun felting
Thank you for your knowledge so helpful x

Good on Ya, New to felting and enjoy your videos. Any felting books to recommend?
Thanks for this, glad you enjoy my videos, I'm afraid I don't have a particular needle felting book that I can recommend, however felts by Philippa has a video on some of the books out there, her video might help: ruclips.net/video/TdjyeW0E-Kk/видео.htmlsi=TMyGzJ-z7o4ZfWbw

@@juliesfeltedfriends Thanks....excellent video in the link...just what I was looking for.
The narrator sounds like Elaine from Elaine kids meditation stories :)
Thank you for the tips

@@juliesfeltedfriends Thank you so much the video is really helpful!
@@MushoomMan glad it helps 😊
I just bought my first kit, and I'm nervous about starting the craft. If I mess up, can I take it apart and start over?
Try not to worry about going wrong too much, it's a very forgiving craft. Say your making the body of the item in the kit, my advice would be to not to use all the wool that the kit gives you to make the body as you might need to add a bit more to correct the shaping. You might also find this video on correcting mistakes in needle felting helpful: ruclips.net/video/8l9GduqwWzg/видео.html
It shows that you can remove arms/legs/eyes and do them again but you can't take apart wool that has been felted very firmly, but you can add wool to it, but it's harder to take away, you'd have to cut it away with scissors 😊 thanks for the question and thanks for watching
cheers for this
You're welcome, thanks for watching 😊
It can take a surprising amount of stabbing to get rid of bumps sometimes 😊 In case you haven't watched it here is my video on getting a smooth finish:
ruclips.net/video/NEjy4q1QwoM/видео.html
I hope this all helps, but it's love to hear how you get on.
Thank you! That helped a lot. You’re the best! 😊
@@TV-mr4pf aw! Thanks 😊
Lovely
Many thanks and thanks for watching
Hilarious and helpful, thank you!!
Glad you like my humour and found it helpful 😁
Great video! I love needle felting, but I keep breaking my needles :(
Aw thanks, this could be various things, try to pull the needle out in the same direction you go in, as they are very brittle and if you bend them even slightly they will break, or it could be that you're stabbing too hard, the needle doesn't have to go into the wool that far, only as far as the barbs. It also helps to work on a mat. Also cheap needles that aren't from a reputable supplier will break more easily, Heidifeathers are a good supplier of needles. Hope this helps 😊
@@juliesfeltedfriends oh okay! Thank you
