    Before you replace the camshaft, try adjusting your valves

      Yes, absolutely adjust valves before opening the motor 👍

    I need to fix the valve release system as well. Can you make a video on changing the cam shaft?

      Hello! I’ve actually got two videos of changing the cam. I’ll link both of them below this comment 👍

      You're awesome, I just subscribed! After adjusting the exhaust and intake valve gaps to factory specs, the engine is still getting stuck on the compression stroke during startup (4 stroke B&S engine).
      Replacing the cam is the only other thing I can think of. Any ideas before I pull the engine apart?

      Hello. Thanks for the sub! It does sound like you’ve got a valve relief problem which does require changing the cam. If you’ve lashed the valves properly and are still having trouble, you can be almost certain that the cam has failed. Best of luck with the fix! Hope the videos help 👍

    When you say "drops less than 7 or 8 volts is bad battery", do you mean drops to below 7 volt reading or drops by 7 volts (12-7)?

    • @FastFixYouTube
      @FastFixYouTube  2 года назад

      Hello. Good question. I mean that if the volt meter is reading below a 7 on the screen, it’s generally a sign that it’s bad or will die soon. Hope this clears things up.

    What type of engine is it that keeps having the cam problem? Intek? Year?

    • @FastFixYouTube
      @FastFixYouTube  2 года назад

      It’s a Briggs and Stratton. Unsure of the years, but it is a common problem.

    Hello sir, I I tested new battery with the nultimeter and it drops AT 3-4 volts when trying to start it up like you said but how could it be low voltage when I just bought it? Please help

    • @FastFixYouTube
      @FastFixYouTube  2 года назад

      Hello. Thanks for the question. Just to be clear, your new battery is testing at 3 to 4 volts when cranking? Or, is it dropping 3 to 4 volts from 12 making it 8 to 9 volts when cranking? I assume it’s the first case and testing at 3 to 4 total volts. My suggestion would be to have the battery fully charged then try again. However, a good battery (even if drained a bit) should show good voltage. It would be my guess that you may have a battery that was bad from the manufacturer. I’ve had this happen before. The store should warranty your purchase and give you a replacement. If the same thing happens, something else is going on. Feel free to let me know what happens. Thanks again.

      @@FastFixRUclips yes my battery starts at 12 volts but when cranking it drops down at 3 or 4 volts, so basically minus 8 or 9

    Can I jump the battery with low amps but good volts instead of fixing the cam or replacing the battery, because that’s what I’ve been doing but not sure if I’m causing damage? I also have a Ariens 17.5hp with b&s engine.

    • @FastFixYouTube
      @FastFixYouTube  3 года назад

      Hello. If I'm understanding your question, you're basically jump starting a battery with low amp readings, correct? And wondering if this has negative effects. Honestly, I'm not sure. I'd wonder if running a half-bad battery might stress the magneto...otherwise, I don't really see any other potential problems. If it's been working, it'll probably work until the battery goes completely belly up. They're roughly $45 for a new one. As far as the cam goes, did relief mechanism fail? The only way to get around that is to replace the cam or set the engine to TDC before every start and use starting fluid. That's my experience anyway. Best of luck and I hope this helps.

    How long do they last my last one lasted like 21 months…. Is that good?

    • @FastFixYouTube
      @FastFixYouTube  3 года назад +1

      Hello. Honestly, I’m not sure how long they “should” last. The last two I’ve purchased didn’t make it 12 months…usually they have a 6 to 9 month warranty, so I guess getting 21 months is probably pretty good.

      Hello! I believe so…could be a 20hp+ engine as well. It’s in storage right now so sorry I can’t verify. Thanks for the question 👍👍👍
