I just got back yesterday from my Alaskan cruise for a week, and I drastically overpack thinking it was going to be much colder, I will say depending on what your excursions are - we had sunny weather every single day except for Ketchikan it lightly drizzled, so tennis shoes is what we wore on our excursions - whale watching in Juneau, the Skagway train ride- and a tour around Ketchikan with a small hike looking for bears, but tennis shoes did it for us. the boat tour to the glacier was cool but nothing that a tennis shoe wouldn’t keep your feet warm - we only viewed the glacier and did not walk on it…... Did not wear a heavy down jacket at all, a hoodie sweatshirt and a windbreaker was just enough, hat and light gloves were all we needed. and I am from Southern California so I’m not used to the cold, but it was beautiful weather during our trip last week. Definitely used our bathing suits, almost every day kids were in the pool but they never opened the upper skylights, we were always in a controlled environment, and of course we went into the spa to use the facilities with our swimsuits. Dinner time we did get dressed up one night for the elegant, three nights we wore dress pants with a nice blouse or sweater, and the other nights were just nice casual. We had a balcony room and three of the nights we opened our balcony door with a chair to let the fresh air in and could hear the waves. It was a great trip, and just pay attention to the weather report before you leave because our forecast was very very accurate…
We’re in Juneau today. Actually colder than I anticipated. Colder than forecast. Bought an extra fleece in Ketchikan and wishing for a heavier coat. Agree that sneakers are good enough but have several pairs. It’s been wet every day so far.
A very helpful video. We are Kiwis from NZ, so didn't really know what to bring. We were booked to do the Rockies and Alaskan cruise in 2020, and 6 weeks before we were to go, we went into Covid lockdown. We have rebooked for end of May 2023, and are really looking forward to our trip.
I'm going mid-June, 2024, so I hope to get some sun. For rain, I'm thinking of bringing either a North Face Tri-climate jacket, with the liner removed, or an old, very long, London Fog trench coat, with the liner removed. I can layer underneath, depending on the temps.
We did our Alaska cruise back on 2018 and we were as lucky as you were We had gorgeous unseasonal weather. Love the Alaska cruise. What’s your travel agent website?
i’ve only been on one cruise and it was to the caribbean. however, i learned a lot about not overpacking, layering (as you say), formal night cheats, etc. since then, i have become carryon only and i will NEVER go back. i’m pretty good at it but would be interested to know if you have a video for carryon only packing for an alaskan cruise. thanks for the tips.
Agree with you on bar soap (ick), however, we just reached into the shower & got a squirt of soap…that would work if you wanted to save packing liquid soap. Do you ever offer/plan any group cruises?
When did you go? Which ship did you go on? Trying to decide if we should go on Quantum of the Seas or NCL Encore late May next year. Also, balcony really needed for Alaskan cruise? How lucky to gave such nice weather..
We found your video very helpful. I have 2 questions. We haven't traveled a lot and very excited. We are going to Alaska in 2025. What type of luggage do you recommend & how many are allowed. Most important is we both use sleep machines would you suggest packing them in our luggage or can they travel like our luggage?
For us, it depends on how long it was, what they did, how many workers there are. It’s not required but appreciated. We usually do $10-$20 a person but depends!
We're taking our first Alaskan Cruise in May and scheduled four different excursions...one of them being the train ride in Skagway and we were told we didn't need our passports. Is that not true?!
Can you send me your packing list? When I screenshot it, it's too small to read, when I enlarge it's too blurry to read. Going on my Alaskan cruise next week, would love to use your packing list to double check I have everything I need.
I do have to ask if tour guides dont get paid well who is getting the cash for the over priced tours. The cruise line! America is the only country where the general public have been taught to pay the wages of everyone instead of ghe employers.
You’ll have to check the cruise line website of whatever lien you are going on, but most people had at least one large suitcase and then a backpack each, if not more! Very typical!

Packing with the ability for layers is key I think, with something waterproof on top!!
Don’t bother with the trench coat. 1 waterproof jacket is enough
@@ilenet9911 I have a north face tri climate jacket that I'll probably bring. The only problem is that it won't keep your knees dry.

Unfortunately don’t have that video, we find it hard to travel with just carry ons. Especially with all our video equipment!

Do you ever offer/plan any group cruises?
Oh that’s a great idea!
Yes, I can book groups! For Royal, you need 8 rooms for it to be a group/get perks!
Where did you get the cute oversized sunglasses
All of our sunglasses are Raybans!
When did you go? Which ship did you go on? Trying to decide if we should go on Quantum of the Seas or NCL Encore late May next year. Also, balcony really needed for Alaskan cruise? How lucky to gave such nice weather..
We went mid June, Ovation of the Seas on Royal. Def the balcony was worth it, my favorite part was sitting there watching the scenery change!!
Can you share your packing list?
It’s at the end of the video, you can screenshot!
Maybe I missed it but did u mention what dates you were there? Going with 2 grown kids n my husband from the 4th august thru the 15th, this Friday!!

Here’s a helpful link from Royal: www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/onboard-luggage-policy
Most lines want you to carry on your sleep machines and not to pack them in your luggage that is brought on the ship
Is biodegradable sunscreen the same as Reef safe? Thanks!
Yes!
Thank You going on September 1st 2023 First Cruise

what did you do in Victoria BC? we only have 4 hours at night there.
We did the Canadian Als Trail and City Highlights tour offered through Royal, it was great!!

How many suitcases did you carry and did you check them or were they carry on?
We each day a checked bag, a carry on bag and a backpack. For the ship, we had them take everything but our backpacks on for us!
Thank you for sharing, I am trying very hard not to overpack, but I was not able to pack carryon only.

Do you need govt I’d and passport or can you just use passport?
For us, just passport when we went into Canada from Skagway and back. But had to randomly show ID to get back on ship in Juneau!
I do have to ask if tour guides dont get paid well who is getting the cash for the over priced tours. The cruise line! America is the only country where the general public have been taught to pay the wages of everyone instead of ghe employers.
@@Sabby899-qp1dw a good point
How much do you generally tip the excursion people?
It depends how many people are leading the excursion and how long it was. But typically $20-30 per person range is what we do, it depends!
Looking for your packing list so I can print
Are you the person who just emailed me by chance?
Im so stressed decidiing how much to pack because of the weight limit in the airline.
I hear you! We each had a checked bag, a carry on bag and a backpack. That was for sure plenty!
I need wardrobe suggestions for an Alaskan cruise mid to late October. Anyone done a cruise then?
