    We live in Vancouver, B.C. and have been to Alaska twice. The first trip was the last week in September (last cruise of the season) and it was chilly, rainy and windy. When in Glacier Bay it was cold. The second trip was the last week in May and it was very warm and was really nice. Most days my wife wore sandals, Capri pants with a sweater on and off the ship.On port days we would dress in layers as the mornings could be chilly but by noon it would warm up. Most days she wore a sweater/light jacket when on the ship as it was cool due to the air conditioning. Most days while in port we would leave the balcony door open as the cabin could get pretty warm. When in Glacier Bay it was sunny and warm so a light jacket was enough. We had checked the weather forecast before packing so we knew it would be warmer so we packed accordingly but we also took some warmer clothes just in case the weather changed and for our whale watching excursion. If we were to go again we would prefer the end of May beginning of June as I am not a fan of rain as we get enough living in Vancouver!

    GREAT video- leaving for an adventure cruise in two weeks and needed a reality check on what to bring. No shows or ports, we will be outside more than inside. Glad that you mentioned that what the forecast temp says is NOT what it will be when you factor in the wind. Will definitely be adding more sweaters, warm gloves and a puffer jacket.

    Thanks for putting this video together, it was so helpful. We are used to going to Colorado in the summers so the layering tip is spot on. Our first Alaska cruise is in August if all goes well and we are so looking forward to it (one way from Vancouver, most likely Seattle now, to Seward) and then we are spending a few days driving up to Denali after we arrive and just basically checking out Alaska. As Texan's we want to see how the "larger" state is really better but it is definitely more scenic.

    Great, informative video. I'm the one who mentioned bringing dark jeans and glad they worked out for you. Yup, from living in AK for 15 years it is definitely wind and rain more than outside temp that makes you uncomfortable. I always layered. If you're only going on a cruise it's not worth investing in the really expensive outerwear. Oh, and you are so right about having gloves because my fingers freeze. For day to day wear I wore Isotoner driving gloves that were cashmere lined because they had more mobility. I had different types of gloves for winter and for fishing. I'm sold on timberland hiking boots not only for warmth but for stability on uneven terrain.

    • @LifeWithFavor
      @LifeWithFavor  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you for your suggestion! Truly appreciate it! I wish I had had thinner gloves, they were needed for sure! Anyone else would have been fine with the gloves I had but my cameras have tiny buttons! haha! I hear great things about Timberland, if we lived where we would use them at all I would have invested. Thank you again, you were a great help! Hugs!

    We’ve taken many Caribbean cruises, but just booked our first Alaskan cruise for September 2022. I’m from Texas - I don’t own any winter boots. Do you think I could get by with tennis shoes? I do plan to go on a glacier!

    Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! This is such a helpful video, I will be taking my first ever cruise in May, to Alaska! Quick question, did you need snow pants for any of the ports or some kind of tour/excursion?

    • @LifeWithFavor
      @LifeWithFavor  5 лет назад +1

      Hi! You're going to love it! No, I did not need any snow pants. I have watched other vlogs of people taking excursions for hiking in snow and the excursion company provided all that type of gear. I would double check with your specific excursion. Hugs!

    Take rain jacket and umbrella only….all the ports are drizzling and overcast….do not over pack….laundry room on board ship

    • @LifeWithFavor
      @LifeWithFavor  2 года назад +3

      Hi, this isn't always the case. The weather varies greatly week to week and day to day especially in early May or late season in September. And, not always a laundry room on the ship and if there is it is often busy and there is very little down time on an Alaskan cruise.

    Thanks so much, we leave for our Alaska cruise in 10 days, sounds like the same itinerary. Question - what is it you said - webly? Is that a make or a style? I would not have thought of gloves, excellent tip.

    Thank you for this video I know it’s four years old, but in my search for my Alaska cruise which is July 27 it’ll be my first time and I want to pack according, one thing that would be more helpful is to share what month you were traveling because I guess May weather is much different than the end of July weather which is different than September weather, but I do appreciate the tips specially on the jackets I don’t need to bring five jackets… Lol

      Hi. Thank you. You’ll love Alaska. Our friends just went in July and it was cool off the water but any wind did make it quite chilly. The date is in the title, early may. Have fun!

    I love the 2 “hoodies” you got!! So cute!! Btw did you bring the hangers or were they already on the ship?

    • @LifeWithFavor
      @LifeWithFavor  5 лет назад +2

      I love the hoodies, cannot wait for it to get cold here again so I can wear them all the time! The hangers were on the ship! That was a first! I think they leave them because people bring so many clothes on an Alaskan cruise! I was so happy to see them as we usually bring our own but they would not fit this time! Hugs my friend!

    Hi, nice video. Can you tell me brand of puffer jacket please? I’m going there next week. Thanks 🙏

    • @LifeWithFavor
      @LifeWithFavor  5 лет назад +1

      Hi there! It’s just the standard brand from Kohl’s. It was very inexpensive. I think really any puffer would work well since the material is usually wind proof. Find one on clearance if you don’t normally wear them at home. They can be pricey but no need to pay for a down filled one, mine is microfiber filled and kept me dry and warm! Have so much fun! Be sure to take a gajillion pictures! Hugs!!

    I loved the video. Very helpful. 10 of us going in 3 weeks. Can you tell me what your husband wore for the formal nights? Did he pack more than one suit or sportcoat? What did most men wear on formal nights? Want to share with my friends. Thank you!

    • @LifeWithFavor

      Hi there my husband wears a collared shirt, not a long sleeve button up just your basic collared shirt and pants with comfortable shoes, not sneakers. You can dress in a tux and get very fancy, some still do but very few.

    just found this post. We are going this July. Our first cruise and its on Princess. How cold is the boat while in Alaska? Keep hearing its always cold on the boat

    • @LifeWithFavor
      @LifeWithFavor  2 года назад +1

      You are hearing correctly. It is quite chilly. I recommend layers. If certain areas of the ship get crowded then it will warm up. I wore a sweater and under shirt the whole cruise. We went in May so it was still quite cold in our ports. Often we used the heater in the cabin. Hope this gives you a better idea. I was just on Sky Princess last week. It was in the mid 60’s all week and I wore a sweatshirt or a jacket in the ship all the time. I was quite cold.

    Hi: what did you wear inside the ship; I’m going second week in September; should I dress inside the ship as if it was fall?

    • @LifeWithFavor
      @LifeWithFavor  3 года назад +3

      We were in May and it was quite chilly on the ship. Even on a Caribbean cruise I am chilly on the ship. The breeze coming off the cool water in Alaska kept me chilly the entire cruise inside or outside. I recommend you dress in layers no matter where you are while on this cruise. Hugs!

    Awesome and very helpful vlog, thanx! Cant wit to see the vlog series on this! Congrats on winning tirivia! Love that flowered dress, cant wait to see it on you, betcha you look so pretty!
    Think I told you in comments elsewhere I need to have my shoulder joint replaced, and the Dr. I want to use is so busy, he has no openings until the end of Aug., so my NE/Canada cruise I had scheduled mid-Sept. is not going to happen. :( Was disappointed- would have been my first cruise in almost 11 years, and fist vacation in almost 8. Good news is my friend, who's also my travel agent, is helping me reschedule everything for the same itinerary/around the same time period NEXT year. So - even though not THIS year,. and smaller ship (probably better for me, being alone, and with scooter for 1st time) - I still will have something to look forward to while I"m recouping! Very grateful.
    Big hugs to you, Rob, the whole family,. and all the gorgeous fur babies!!

      I am so sorry you have to go through that and that you have to move your cruise. You have been so looking forward to it. You might find you like smaller ships. I really have grown to be very fond of them. less people and very few crowds and service is usually better, too! I know you'll love it. Big hugs my friend, sometimes life can be so frustrating!
