The pacing was excellent. From a tale about abduction, to one about corrupt and incompetent officers, to a murder mystery, to a weaving tale about hope. I don't really like Jolie but she was excellent and Clint Eastwood once again delivers a brilliant, enthralling film. It's downbeat but also inspirational - from the brilliant and frightening scenes where he murders the children, to the tale of how they escaped and reuniting with parents. And the hanging scene is just exceptional directing.
I meant to watch the 1980 The Changeling and accidentally put this one on instead. I am so grateful for that because I watched the whole thing and couldn't turn it off. I usually hate period piece movies but this one is the best I've ever seen. Bravo to everyone involved in this masterpiece.
I recently saw this film yesterday....and I want to echo some of the other comments: This was a pretty good film; and I'm also not an Angelina Jolie fan myself, but she did a good job in this film...very possibly due to Eastwood's direction.
Mayo's the best radio presenter in the country. He's not a critic, he's just a very clever, very personable guy with some reasonable, relatable opinions.
Probably the biggest oscar farce this year is snubbing Changeling along with WALL-E for best picture. Ben butt is boring and The Reader is so hollow you can hardly feel any sense of emotion. The Committee who chose a great list last year have now gone back to the times when Dances with wolves won Best film over "goodfellas", and Shawshank Redemption lost to Forrest gump (Not that forrest gump is bad, it's just shawshank was better)
It's funny I just saw the movie last week, after avoiding it for years one because it looked boring and two because I think Angelina Jolie is super overrated. But holy s*** what a great movie, and Angie was great in it.
Kermode usually gets it right but if he thinks Angelina Jolie is great in this then he should watch it again. All she does is emote in big lipstick with dem big ol teardrops in her eyes. That ain't acting Mark. And why is Clint Eastwood so rated as a director ? This was all over the place.

this movie was criminally underrated. d.eserved a best picture nomination and jolie deserved the oscar
Loved it. Great film. Should have received a lot more award attention.
there is no more heartwarming a sound than that of Kermode's laughter

I try to guess before the review whether Kermode's gonna love it or hate it. I thought he'd hate this - damn you Kermode

I just want to see The Womb Of Death now
In Changeling Jolie is great. As for The Exorcist being the best film ever, I think he just says its his favorite film. Big difference.
Despite the lengthiness & nuance, the film is still well directed, well acted, stylish & sad true crime biopic. (71%) (3.5/5 stars) (positive)
The "Bayification" of cinema. Brilliant, and I'm not even British.
Yea, the overlooking of Goodfellas was a particular travesty
i thought kermode thought she was a 'stright to video actress'
wow i can see this one
