It is strange or maybe even remarkable that in the series the Horst Mahler thread is abandonded, although Mahler later became a Nazi himself, providing another peculiar example of an odd feedback loop around others of which Curtis circles throughout

Odd feedback loop is right - I see all of this swimming in the same fishbowl, trapped by these ghosts of the past. Not sure what the poster was trying to convey posting this video, really. That this is the *correct* take? That's not the point of the Curtis doc.

      Just adding to this thread...
He may have made the move because being a true humanist is exhausting within capitalist structures which exist on the premise of the supremacy of one group over another (capitalist worker; white non-white; human non-human, etc.)
Capitalist structures enable the cognitive dissonance of Westerners to the suffering of those in the 'periphery'. Westerners understand that the third-world suffers. To make it easier to cope with life, other humans (like us) are cast as non-human.
When you've lost the war of agency to capitalist structures, fascism becomes the only valid option. Those who are suffering are not human, they're not worthy of sympathy. And in order to be consistent with his own beliefs and existence, Horst Mahler became a Nazi.
On a wider level, one could inference that this leads to war (fascist expansion) and the destruction of capitalist structures, afterwhich the flowering of sympathy and humanism (as a result of the many dead).
      The loop repeats...

In the end, Curtis concludes that people are not capable of improving the world with simple theories, because the sheer number of variables is too great to comprehend, and any action taken has no guarantee of not only success, but any noticeable outcome at all.

If you didn't watch after this point, and have never watched Part 1 of The Living Dead - Which deals with how the Allies erased much of the military history of Germany that became synonymous with Nazism - then Adam Curtis does seem to be implying this.
But although he is obviously constructing a story, I don't think he really says anything (for himself, toward us) until the very end of Part 6. Up until that point, what he is laying out through the rest of the documentary is how much everyone had failed in their own paths to changing the world around them.
The Red Army Faction believed that a police state existed in Germany, when it was ironically their actions (and successes) that lead to the modern, computer system based police state which finally did capture them.
To say the somewhat regulated capitalism that RAF (Or Black Panthers) saw was Fascist is mostly incorrect. It surely wasn't Nazi, but I doubt anyone would say that today - regardless of how it is immediately defined - the vast pool of financial control by corporate entities has led to an equivalent political power that is exerted on the consumer.

You can use rational analysis with your intake of knowledge to sort whats true and false. Set goals, use analysis, and we should all reach the same conclusion. That is, a connection, with the 'above'. Watch out for the "below" stuff, thats where all this black magic shit they did came from. I watched all of Adam Curtis work I could find. I first heard about him on NPR in USA, discussing Hypernormalization. See my channel for my conclusion on our shared dilemma, that is, of humanity.

We aren't just all from Africa, and don't just have a single common ancestor as human beings, but all matter itself was born at once, according to the research at present. So we are related to it all. There is no third or first world. There is only the Earth for us humans, as home, and the hierarchy created here by evil souls, for power.
You're in the Earth Team now. Follow me to know what to do about that, going forward. Love

The problem with theories like this are that they disregard how third world can become first if they play the game. See: Singapore and South Korea.

If you've ever watched more than 20 minutes of an Adam Curtis documentary, "Marxist mumbo jumbo" would be the last possible thing you could criticise him for. He's pretty staunchly a centrist dad at heart, ideologically. For all his conspiratorial word salads that make apathetic people feel clever, his critiques never really go anywhere and feel hollow.
